Thank you for this thorough review. For me the biggest advantage of this car is the small block in between the front seats. The trend in other cars seems to be to make this bigger and bigger, up to the point where there is not much room left for the driver and front passenger. I like some extra room for my knees, and I like the possibility to put the arm rest upright.
Rented one last spring and liked it generally, but was annoyed with the haptic buttons on the steering wheel and the lack of adjustable regen (just two settings). I know it may seem a silly thing to complain about, but the e-golf has 5 regen settings, and I actually like to use one of the ones in the middle for regular driving instead of D. VW gets me hooked on that feature and then they took it away in the ID.4? Also the seat adjustment memory didn't seem to work -- kept going back to the default or some previous setting. Also would like real leather steering wheel, like on the e-Golf. I'm OK with the vinyl seats, but no vinyl on steering wheels.
“But I keep the cups holder”yeah, as a Swedish, fika is really important 😅 thanks for the review. I’m planning to buy a new EV and VW has good offers on the ID4 / ID5 at the moment, let’s see. I will do a test drive as well 🙌🏼 EDIT : I forgot to talk about the new layout of the buttons on the steering wheel. Thank you VW 🥲 as a user of a 1st version of a ID3 (company car), this was super annoying 😅

@@ItsOnlyElectric as a part Swedish guy, fika is also very important to me 😬 yeah, I get that. Those haptic buttons are really not the best. I don’t really understand I wanted to go for the ID5 but no AWD and slower charging speed, so I will stick with the ID4 🤷🏻♀️

Yes, fika is also a core value to me. The barista at my work place is now a good friend 😂 Yeah, and apparently, ID 5 is not available in AWD, only the ID4. At least, on the market I’m in at the moment (Denmark). It’s very surprising that you have to deal with different charging speeds given the trim of the car. Makes no sense So I think I will have to go for the ID4 if I want a AWD and a decent charging speed. But I do prefer the form factor of the ID5. It seems VW is not keen on developing the ID5 line up 🤷🏻♀️
One pedal driving is not efficient. VW's systems is much more sophisticated than that, it automatically regenerates before junctions and roundabouts, etc. One pedal driving means the driver has to maintain precise control the position of the right foot. I leave mine on D most of the time. I switch to B on steep downhill roads and sometimes in town traffic so youre not constantly having to go from pedal to pedal. Another disadvantage of one pedal driving is the strong braking is applied to the rear wheels only, not a good idea in slippery conditions.

If you dont need more power, range or precondition (never supercharge) isn't a used 1St edition ID4 (2021 model) a very good bargain? Prices seem to be very low = value for money
Jättebra du lägger några sekunder på ljudkvalitet. Tror inte jag är ensam om att verkligen bry mig om hur bra musik och röster låter även (eller speciellt) i bilen.

Thanks for your video. On the last iv4 , I heard people say that the sat nav is bad. Even if you used your phone. That sometimes the screen would even go blank. Has this been fixed or is it still bad? Thanks
Very nice refresh! Glad VW listened to their customers/reviewers. I'd go with the engine noise of the Lamborghini Urus. Rattle some window panes! "Officer, that couldn't have been me. This is an EV."
@@ItsOnlyElectric I got mine in France for 50k (4motion 286 pro life max) with every options except heat pump. Enyaq 85x was my first choice but it was 17k more so without a doubt it's the best deal at least in France for a awd version. All the others in that list are more expensive. Delivery is for next week so i'm pretty pumped.
I got an ID.5 only 18 months ago, I’ve had so many problems with the infotainment system which isn’t user upgradable. Now there is a refreshed version coming out. I’m going to voluntary terminate my PCP deal at the earliest opportunity and let VW take the hit. I won’t be buying an electric VW again.
This is NOW a car it is supposed to be in the first place and I think they are late with that update. In fact, it feels like for that specific price range they are better options now. KIA had some price cuts same as Hyundai. Tesla now has a new Y battery/motor combo available to make it more accessible. Shame :/
Chunky heavy beast..do not like the small drivers cluster or charging port location. Heat pump not standard over £1000 extra. No wireless charging as standard ..you have to pay £2,660 to get a pack for it. Crazy. If you like piano black plastic then this car will not disappoint.
@@ItsOnlyElectric Would you consider this against it's Chinese, Korean, or Tesla competitors models in the same price range.? if I was tied to VAG, the Skoda Enyag does it so much better.
@carlturner4344 agree on the Emyaq..that's the best MEB alternative in this segment. Tough question, cars like Model Y, Nio EL6 and Xpeng G6 are really good alternatives. Hard to pick one. Model Y may still be most value for money together with the upcoming Xpeng G6..
The two things I hate about EVs not counting range anxiety. First, the trend towards sunroofs that don't open. Maybe its because of weight. But I buy a sunroof to open for ventilation, not something to see through. The fact that its glass is a product of the market. Not something I'd ever ask to have. Second, they don't' have have spare tires. That's a clear and present design flaw and until they get past these basics, I have no interest in buying an EV anytime soon. @4:50 You should always be able to store the cargo cover conveniently in the car. Any car that can't do this simple task if of poor design and should be avoided. @6:25 Sorry, but the back seat is too small for someone of your height. Your knees are touching the back of the seat, and the thigh cushion is too short to support your legs. There's nothing decent about the rear seat for someone over 6". I'm just as tall and I assure you I wouldn't want to be back there for more than a short jaunt around town. A day trip is out of the question. @26:00 The Germans don't believe in one-peddle driving. Just like they have not adapted the rear view mirror camera. Somebody sits in the middle seat and the rear-view mirror becomes useless. Not that it was great to begin with. @30:30 "More than sufficient power?" No VW has ever had that.
Thanks for taking time to comment and leaving you feedback and sharing thoughts. The two things you describe (sunroof and spare) isn't that the same for all new cars regardless of type? In cold countries like Sweden panoramic roofs really makes sense since it's lights up the cabin and brings more head room. 9 months out if 12 you vant open it anyway due to rain and cold weather. 😕
It has an interior of a car that's 15-20k less if it was an ICE car. Also the mapping of the acceleration is still terrible. A lot of hesitation and a slow ramp up of power. This still isn't an attractive buy.
They appear to be, and they will lose sales because of it. There's just too much competition to settle for all these compromises. They are in the process of updating he steering wheel though.
Decent family car. My only problem with it is how boring it is, both in design and driving - you can get more exciting family cars for almost the same price imo. And all that piano plastic trim? No thank you.
@@ItsOnlyElectric Well I have the Nio EL6. I love it. Also I would buy the ModY or Enyaq or Ioniq5 over the id4. They all are just more interesting to me. But I have never been a VW-guy.

Yes, there are similarities with the kadjar but not that much according to me. Id4 a lot more powerful and soorty design compared to the more round and feminine shapes on the kadjar. But get your point
Still the interior... looks like a van. Decent amount of space for your knees? these are almost touching the front seat. For the same amount of money you can buy a Chinese EV, well better than the I.D4. The outside looks nice the interior.... probably one of the worse out there
Same regen breaking in ID4 and you get the possibility to coast instead regen when releasing accelerater pedal. Very strange how Tesla Fans praising Disadvantages as Advantages
@Fry3199 I want to coast when I choose to. Otherwise OPD all the time. This isn't about Tesla. It's about EVs in general. Other brands like BMW does it too.

Hi, I like you video. Any chance you could do one on the bidirectional charging, VW has released the software with my 2024 model but the rest remains a mystery. V2L, V2H and V2G
Thanks 🙏
I own a ID3 with activated V2L..will experiment with that.
If you dont need more power, range or precondition (never supercharge) isn't a used 1St edition ID4 (2021 model) a very good bargain? Prices seem to be very low = value for money
Maybe. Not into the second hand market prices forv id4
Thanks for a great review. The price seems much higher than a Model Y with lower performance.
Thanks!
Starting price for entry level actually lower than Model y SR and Pro also starts a bit lower than LR Y.
Same power as the Honda Proluge AWD...has this updated one made it to America yet?
Yes possible to order in US now.
So it’s just catching up to Tesla and the Model Y from 2022. Good job VW!
It has always been better than Tesla since day one in build quality, ride quality, cabin noise, practicality (turning radius).
still sensitive touch buttons on the steering wheel !!! 😩
They're being updated. But the HVAC still isn't as functional as the switches used in Toyota or Hyundai.
It's non-issue. They work just fine.
@@ID.SuperFan-tq8xi that's why they abandonned it on new golf & tiguan... (and soon on ID3...)
Nice review
I love your videos! But isn't it called ski hatch (not latch)?
Thanks for noticing..sometimes I say things that I know are wrong but don't have the opportunity of time to retake. That's life 🤣
Glad you like my videos 👍
We don't talk about OTA updates anymore: do you know anything?
OTAs working. Actually got one when testing the car. But what happens with really big updates, not sure.
Thanks for your video. On the last iv4 , I heard people say that the sat nav is bad. Even if you used your phone. That sometimes the screen would even go blank. Has this been fixed or is it still bad? Thanks
I had no such issues during 1 week of testing
Very nice refresh! Glad VW listened to their customers/reviewers. I'd go with the engine noise of the Lamborghini Urus. Rattle some window panes! "Officer, that couldn't have been me. This is an EV."
🤣
Haptic controls are a potential danger. A button should be able to be felt as an item. Nice car (?) but not for me.
Why reviewers don’t talk about lead time?
Thinking of delivery time?
is there any other car which is better than the new id4 for the same price?
Depending on what you are after. Alternatives with sane price and similar range:
- Emyaq 85
- Model Y
- Ioniq 5
Sad to hear, I feel you man!
Shame, as the new infotainment system is amazing!!
The only take on this car is the battery …. If they change it to lfp or manage to get the new solid state battery, i will buy the car right away.
Is this the ID 4 Match Pro?
Just PRO
This is NOW a car it is supposed to be in the first place and I think they are late with that update. In fact, it feels like for that specific price range they are better options now. KIA had some price cuts same as Hyundai. Tesla now has a new Y battery/motor combo available to make it more accessible. Shame :/
Agree.
Just had one as a courtesy car when my Arteon was being serviced. Nice car to drive but I couldn't live with that bare looking interior.
Coming from an Arteon I get your point. ID7 is more on par with it
Ohh i thought the new ID.4 had the same driver display as the ID.7a?
Evertying about the new ID.4 says its the best EV out there.
Same 5" size as in the id7 but with the "old" layout.
still lagging lots of things when compare to ID7. Don't know why they weren't built on same platform.
ID7 on MEB+ and ID4 on MEB. an interior rewamp would have been great
Väntar som f n till det kan bli en recension på model 3 Ludicrous 😎
Det vore kul!!
Chunky heavy beast..do not like the small drivers cluster or charging port location. Heat pump not standard over £1000 extra. No wireless charging as standard ..you have to pay £2,660 to get a pack for it. Crazy. If you like piano black plastic then this car will not disappoint.
Would love a bigger cluster.
Too little, too late, for too much. Really worried for WV future.
Ok, do not enough of a change to grow/keep their market share?
Would you take this over the revised Model 3 even without Tesla Supercharger advantage?@@ItsOnlyElectric
@@carlturner4344 ID 4 was the most sold none Tesla, none chinese EVs last year.
In sport mode the acceleration mapping felt good..on ECO a whole nother story.
The interior could be premium like on the ID7.
@@ItsOnlyElectric I tested in sport mode. They need to sharpen this car up. And yah I agree, the interior would be much better if it was like the ID7
VW is stubborn like Nokia just to put some buttons on the starting wheel 😂
They appear to be, and they will lose sales because of it. There's just too much competition to settle for all these compromises. They are in the process of updating he steering wheel though.
Decent family car. My only problem with it is how boring it is, both in design and driving - you can get more exciting family cars for almost the same price imo. And all that piano plastic trim? No thank you.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Any choice of car instead?
@@ItsOnlyElectric Well I have the Nio EL6. I love it. Also I would buy the ModY or Enyaq or Ioniq5 over the id4. They all are just more interesting to me. But I have never been a VW-guy.
Buyers are a lot smart than they used to be. We know that people black will look terrible the moment you touch it. A year in its going to look horrible when it gets dull with all the scratches.
€46,000 ..you can get a Tesla.... Volkswagen just can't compete with Tesla, Chinese and South Korea...They are done and dusted.
A battery.
Car without face, soul, name and history. ID? Identification? 🤣
🤣
According to Volkswagen, ID. stands for "intelligent design, identity and visionary technologies".
@@ItsOnlyElectric Klaus Zycora was fired from VW. He designed this car, and when you look at the side, it looks 90% like a Renault Kadjar 😄
Yes, there are similarities with the kadjar but not that much according to me. Id4 a lot more powerful and soorty design compared to the more round and feminine shapes on the kadjar. But get your point
Looks plasticky inside and cheap materials....
Still the interior... looks like a van. Decent amount of space for your knees? these are almost touching the front seat. For the same amount of money you can buy a Chinese EV, well better than the I.D4. The outside looks nice the interior.... probably one of the worse out there
Yes but still one of the best European alternatives available. Interior way to plastic
@@ItsOnlyElectricvery Volkswagen
Great review, but still mediocre car
Thank you!
What's the most disappointing parts?
It s the best car for its value.
Still a mediocre car and a long way behind a Tesla Model Y in many ways. The Regen braking on Tesla's is amazing, all EV's should have the same.
Day 1 Tesla y is arguably a better car. But 5 years or 50,000 miles, the Tesla starts breaking down and the VW is still a solid vehicle.
This is a real car with decent build quality. Please don't compare it to a Tesla FFS!
So they took years to rel ase a car that doe the basics of most electric cars. 🤦🏾 VW. Probably will take 5 years to sort out their charging infrastructure too. Electrify america is garbage.
is this ID4 Match Pro 210kw 77kwh?
Yes kind of. Some equipment may differ but same battery and drivetrain
