  • On many BMW cars, changing the rear brakes requires using a diagnostic computer to wind the piston back.
    Here i show you how it can be done without any special tools or equipment.

    Thanks for that trick with the electric motor and spinning the parking brake bolt with a socket! Worked like a charm with a 11/32 socket.

      But word to the wise, that wear sensor is incredibly fragile. Not sure if it was already broken when I popped it out but the magnet side was definitely snapped in half by the time I finished.

    Great thanks! Cool helpful Video! How much more is needed to remove the rotors? lock nut and pad assembly?

    Great video, wanted to make sure I have all the socket sizes I need before I started. I use copper grease on the pads as well, I only use silicone grease on the guide pins.

    About the copper grease, don't put it on the caliper pins,... it damages and deteriorates the rubber boots. Use silicone grease for that. Copper is ok everywhere else mentioned.

    i put grease on sliders. brakes seem to last way longer. and you find some brakes hard to get out in a year or 2 with out grease causing to not back off after braking

    This was amazingly helpful and I did this over the weekend thanks to yoir video. However, how do I reset the light afterwards?

      Fantastic! Glad you found the video useful!
      Now you mention it... I'm sure I had to reset it through the cars menu (did I forget to film/upload that!?)
      I will double check and get back soon.

      If memory serves me right, this is what I done...

      If this fails, Google "bmw x1 brake reset".
      Really sorry I missed that bit! I will need to find the video and edit it in.

    What torque level did you do tyre bolts to?

    • @themidnightmechanic9368
      @themidnightmechanic9368  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there.
      Not sure of the specific torque setting. You will be able to find out through Google.
      I change wheels every day so I know how tight they should be by feel.

    did you need a wear brake sensor for both sides or just the one side

    • @themidnightmechanic9368
      @themidnightmechanic9368  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your question.
      Normally only one side has the sensor fitted.
      So you will have one sensor at the front and one at the back.

    Why on earth would you need a computer to change brake pads? What are BMW thinking!!!
