  • Join me as I travel from Ireland to South West Portugal to walk some of the best trails in Europe. The Fisherman's Trail is a waymarked route that connects up some of the old paths used by local fishermen between their villages and cliff-top fishing perches.
I walked a total of 174km in 8 days, camping or using cheap guest houses along the way. The video is broken into two parts; this second one covers the trails between Odeceixe and Vila do Bispo.
The first part is here: • Backpacking the Rota V...
This video records some of my experiences, but hopefully, it gives a feel for the trails and an idea of what to expect if you're walking them. Feel free to drop me a message if you have any questions on the trail, accommodation etc.
    Chapters.
    Day 6 - Odeceixe to Aljezur. 00:00
    Day 7 - Aljezur to Arrifana. 11:53
    Day 8 - Arrifana to Carrapateira. 24:18
Day 9 - Carrapateira to Vila do Bispo. 36:17
    Day 9 - Back to Lagos and a wrap-up. 41:22

Hi Ian. What a fantastic experience !! There is a certain sense of achievement and emotion after completing 8 days of consecutive walking. The sand must have presented some challenges, tough to walk through and to keep out of your shoes 😅. The villages you passed through seemed really quiet, and not many people about. It must have been nice to experience the sea nearby and also the quiteness of the pine forests. Nice video. 👍

Thanks for watching Andrew. It’s a beautiful place and warm enough for me in November. Sand gaiters are the answer. They worked a treat.

Brilliant Ian, fantastic achievement 👏👏👏 Delighted to see so much sunshine in the second half. The scramble down to that beach was worth the risk to paddle in the sea and get your coffee break at that beautiful spot.
You're a good ambassador for geocaching. In a former life I was a geocache reviewer under the name of Croaghan. Did that for over 10years and made a lot of good friends. There's a great Irish caching community.
Is that the media mod cover you lost? Same happened to me and it's a real pain in the arse as GoPro don't sell them separately! If you contact them via customer service they'll send you a replacement if you are a member.

Thanks again for watching Niall and I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Yes it’s the media mod wind cover. They’re out of stock for at least the last two weeks with no estimate of when they’re back in. I guess that’s because so many people loose them because the design isn’t very good! Anyway, I’ll keep trying to get one. I don’t do a lot of Geocaching but there were so many along that route that I picked up a few. The one in the trig point I actually found last year but had no idea what it was until I investigated

Thanks for having a look mate. Not quite Villa on Tour, but I've enjoyed making them...

I really enjoyed your relaxing kind of style travelogue about the Rota Vicentina, I’m heading out to do it in January and also am torn between hostels and camping, did you see any gas canisters for sale in Porto Covo?

Hi Gary and thanks for watching. I didn’t but then I wasn’t looking. However, all the campsites along the route had gas. Camp if you can. The sites are all terrific (even without grass!)

God bless Michael O’Leary! I spend half the year hiking in some great places thanks to Ryanair

Yup, this route was chosen mainly because of the ease of getting there. I’m already looking ahead to next year and working out the Ryanair routes… Thanks for watching.

@@BarnabyNutt I am off to Porto on Thursday to walk the Portuguese Camino. I go to Gozo often, great walking around the coast. Going to Porto Covo after Easter. Enjoy your walking 👍🏻

I had been warned about that road walk out of Rogil last year, and it was so bloody hot that day, many of us got rides to Aljezur.

It's strange. It really isn't that far but it drags on and on. This year I was definitely more prepared for it. I took earphoines along, just for that section!

Hi. Thanks for watching. This was in early November. There were plenty of other people on the trail. Occasionally you could go for an hour or two without seeing anyone.
All the towns had plenty of places to eat and stay that were still open.
