    Hi Nadine, 12 of us from Ireland and the US are just back from 5 days on the Fisherman's trail, our ages range from 60 to 30 and we all had amazing time, your tip regarding the gaiters was a game changer, many thanks for that. Best of luck. Paul

      So wonderful to hear, congrats on your journey! This sounds like quite the group :) And I'm so happy that the gaiters suggestion came in handy! It's really so needed for all that sand...

    Hey Nadine, it's Allie, your roomie from Ahoy hostel - thanks for the shout out :) I still can't believe I ran into you as I've been a long time subscriber. Now that Im home on Vancouver Island Im thrilled to be able to relive the journey through your eyes. my 12 day walk was everything I'd hoped for and more but I found the days flew by too fast. I was wishing I had time to turn around after reaching Lagos and walk north back to Porto Covo (and tan the right side of my body haha). My favourite stage was Carrapateira to Vila do Bispo for challenging and varied terrain. I agree with you, my gaiters worked so well, although looking a bit dorky ;P . Eagerly awaiting your next instalment...while wondering where to walk next time. your positivity is contagious and your videos inspire. keep on trucking!

      Hi Allie! I'm so glad you commented, I was thinking about you a lot as I walked, knowing you were just behind me. I'm so glad you had a great hike and I completely agree with you- I didn't want to stop walking! Since I only was able to get to Sagres, I've told myself that I HAVE to return and do those last stages to Lagos (and, well, all of it a second time). The day from Carrapateira to Vila do Bispo was my favorite too!! I thought it was challenging, but also kind of thrilling (the wind was really intense for me that day, and it definitely added to the experience). I'm so happy that we were able to meet, it was such a perfect way for me to start this journey! All my best (and maybe one day we'll find each other on the same path again) :)

      Thank you Erwin, I'm not sure that I can quite wrap my mind around how many are actually viewing and following all of these videos... I certainly know you're out there, but the reality of coming face-to-face with someone who says- "You're Nadine!" makes it oh so real. But I'm just so happy and grateful that I can make these videos and have them find their way to anyone who might get something out of them. So, thank you for watching, truly!

      Thank you! But I can't take all this credit- I'm not able to edit until after I've finished walking (I'm back home now). Last summer I tried editing/posting videos "live" on the trail, but it was too much. Some are able to do it but I also found that it took me out of the experience too much.

    Brought back memories. Crowds, yes it’s highly promoted, see their website, Facebook etc. we met one person first time we walked it. You can get to the beaches by ropes down the cliffs. Glad the sun came out for you, it’s gorgeous when it’s sunny.

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  ปีที่แล้ว

      When did you walk the route? I hadn't realized that it's been so promoted, but even though it was 'crowded', compared to some Camino routes I've done, it really wasn't bad and I was able to find large pockets of time when I could walk alone, with no one in sight. And I had the absolute best weather (I really do think these were the best 8-consecutive weather days of walking that I've ever had!)

      @@NadineWalks We first walked in October 2014, part of a three month walk in Spain and Portugal. Second time September 2016. Already some changes. They have expanded both the Historical and the Fishermans since then. I gather from your comments you walk in spring and summer because you are still working. Summers in southern Europe are hot. Have you looked at the Azores. 9 islands, some nice walking and temperatures in summer better for walking. easy to get to from East coast US. All the best.

    Well, no need to tell you to have fun. Keen also makes a very light ankle boot which may be good on sand.

      @NadineWalks  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hope you enjoy this trail, it was so incredible! And no, I didn't have any encounters with (scary/aggressive) loose dogs. There was one VERY friendly dog who was running around a village, then I saw him later down the path. There were a couple of other loose dogs that completely ignored me. I don't think you have to worry about dogs on this route!

    I started the Inglès about the same time, like you very surprised to find so many pilgrims on the trail - Semana Santa, which I knew nothing about. Do the Portuguese also celebrate it - or an equivalent,? 🇳🇿

      Easter and the week leading up to it is big in Portugal as well! Plus many have extra holidays around this time (myself included!) which I think led to the higher numbers on the trail.

    Hi Nadine. I spent some time in the south of Portugal many years ago and just loved that landscape. The coast of Portugal just makes you feel like you are at the edge of the earth. Have you found that you can get by with trying some Spanish words and phrases or is English more understood?. I think this landscape might suit me better than the north of Spain. Thanks again for sharing your adventures. - Evan (from Canada)

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Evan! I agree, the landscape there DID kind of make me feel like I was on the edge of the earth! And to be honest, I'm not sure about getting by with Spanish- I think probably you can, though for the most part English was spoken/understood (but I really don't know much Spanish!). In one instance, when there was a language barrier, I was able to pull out my French and that worked! (not that it's similar to Portuguese, but that the older generations in Portugal grew up learning French)

    I’m going to have to watch this series. I’m just starting some research of other trails to walk. I’m walking the Camino Ingles is Sept and will have another 14 days to do something afterwards. (Completed the Portuguese in April and the Norte 2 yrs ago)
    Could this trail be done with spending about 20euro a night for a bed?

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jack, I do think you can stay in hostels all along the way, but it would be wise to reserve ahead (especially if you don’t want to end up paying for more expensive lodging!) I think the average cost is a bit above 20 euros a night… between 22 and 25 was typical for me!
