Barnaby Nutt - Outdoors in Poland
Ireland
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 12 มิ.ย. 2013
In the middle of 2024, we moved from Ireland to Poland, and so this channel needed a little 'rebranding'. I'd started making videos of my adventures around Ireland to keep them as memories as much as anything, and was begining to get the hang of it. But then being told I was being made redundant, moving country and living out of boxes meant that adventuring (and making videos) definitely took a back seat.
But I'm back. I'm not sure if there's much interest in English language videos about the outdoors in Poland, but I'll keep at if for my own benefit. This isn't a 'gear' channel, and the adventures might be pretty tame, but I'll keep sharing while I'm having fun.
I'm a hiker, kayaker, camper, and (almost retired) cyclist with a terrible memory. As a result, along my journeys I tend to take pictures or video to record and remember them. The videos are here and the pictures (and words) on my blog: barnabynutt.com/

So how are the trails in Wielkopolska? Let me show you... #gravelbike #oxfeld #wielkopolska #cycling

A very typical local ride through the forests of southern Wielkopolska. These days I can't leave the house without a DJI Neo drone and a GoPro camera, so even the most ordinary trips get their own video...
I say "ordinary", but maybe you're interested in what the local trails look like, or maybe you just like watching a fat guy slowly creep through the forest. Or maybe you have trouble sleeping...

Y'see the thing about the Neo is that it's so small, it's not difficult to take it with you everywhere. But how would it get on following me on a gravel bike on my local trails? The answer is, pretty well. It lost me on a few occasions when the contrast changed quickly (going from sunlight to a forest) and I crashed it more than once, but usually when trying to fly too low. I headed out with on...
DJI Neo in Low Light - DJI Neo w słabym świetle. Saturday Morning in the Wet Woods.
มุมมอง 66821 วันที่ผ่านมา
After a glorious summer, a sudden turn in the weather meant that Saturday morning was cold, windy, wet and pretty dark. Too much sitting around this week meant that I needed to get out of the house and so set off for a walk, with coffee brewing kit, the DJI Neo and a GoPro. I was interested to see how quickly the DJI footage became noisy in low light, and you can see the results for yourself in...

I happened to be on TH-cam the night that the tidal wave of content about the new DJI Neo was released. I bought one after seeing @LearnOnlineVideo 's video and it arrived a couple of days later. This is the first outing for the drone. It follows me as I take pictures of the bonkers, 54m tall wind turbine created by Jósef Antos, near Częstochowa. EN: My first video review* is of the Oxfeld GR1 gravel bike from Centrum Rowerowe. It's a pretty basic frame but with some lovely components. The best thing about it is that it proves that you don't need to spend ALL the money to enjoy your cycling. Just buy a bike and get out and ride... Apologies again for the sound levels in the video. When I'd finished editing it, I was straight on to Amazo...

A fantastic three days expoloring the Karkonosze mountains in my new homeland of Poland. As you'll see in the video, the channel will be having something of a rebrand now that we've left Ireland and headed for the mainland. I've been really looking forwards to exploring this part of the world. We've driven through the area, but I wanted to get away from the roads, into the forest and the silenc...

My daughter takes over my channel with a video that she stars in, edited and directed. Over to you Emily... A really fun walk up Moylussa - the highest mountain in County Clare. It was the St. Patrick's Day bank holiday in March and the rain just about kept away, but the winds were crazy; but that only made it more fun! The hike ended up being 10km long, but we stopped plenty of time for snacks...
A Weekend In Donegal, including Ireland's Finest Coastal Hike

Donegal feel's a long way from Clare, and that's my excuse for never having spent any time in the county since I've been living in Ireland. I'd heard how spectacular and sparsely populated the area was and it didn't disappoint, despite an extremely low cloud base that obscured most of the views. I took a Friday off work and drove up, stopping in Sligo at the halfway point. I headed straight for...

Hiking Ireland - The Devil's Bit Hills, County Tipperary

A walk in the Devil's Bit hills in County Tipperary. I'd driven by this forested and rocky ridgeline over the last few years and vowed to get out for a walk on it whenever I could. The ridge has the 'bite' itself, but then a bog-covered red sandstone plateau, with a ring of cliffs around it, but then three further summits as the ridge extends north. When researching a route, I saw reports that ...

I’d been so desperate to get out for a camp, I didn’t worry about the storm headed for our part of Ireland and the associated weather warnings. I was going regardless… While I was able to cross off January in my ‘12 Camps in 12 Months’ plan, it wasn’t the best night. I left too late, had a tricky walk up to the spot I’d chosen and had to pitch in the dark. Finding a good pitch in The Burren can...

What a beautiful video and thank you for not jabbering the whole time
Thanks for watching and I'm happy that you enjoyed it. Being in front of the camera is my least favourite thing about making films for TH-cam.
@@BarnabyNutt agreed. its' the worst! but it seems like it's what people seem to watch the most? vs beautiful filmed scenes of the experience...
😊
Class Ian, that’s brilliant, especially for the price of them. Suspect we are gonna be seeing these things all over the mountains with the instagram folks!
Thanks for watching. I think you're right. Everyone's gonna have their own personal camera crew following their every move!
Ha, I forgot you are also on Team Purple Stooge. What camera and lens are you shooting with Ian?
Yeah, Team 'Plum Crazy'! There were only ever twenty of us... Check this video from last month when I rode the Stooge for the first time in Poland: th-cam.com/video/4FlKZTuGpqs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=5whKZ6p_lzmsfMBs In the video I'm using a Leica M9 Monochrom (that had a massive piece of crap on the sensor) and 35mm Summicron. Thanks for watching!
Looks great Ian - very impressive for the size and weight of it! Have fun with it 🤗
Thanks for watching Miriam. I think the fact that these can film you while you're doing something opens up a whole new market. Think of people making instructional videos, or fishing, climbing (for example) or anything else where your hands are full...
so stunning ,bye-🤚
Thanks for watching. Bye!
Awesome weekend adventure! The hike and trails look like so much fun. Thanks for sharing the excitement and beauty of the area! 💕
Thank you for watching! It IS an awesome area...
Great video. The remains of the plane engine at 2.33 are i think from a German plane that crashed above that location. There is a seat now with a plaque giving details of this incident.
Nice one Ian 👌 I don't watch many bike reviews but I thought this was very well filmed and a fair rundown on the bike itself 👏 For the money it's hard to beat and as you say it's got you back out again 👍
Thanks for watching Niall. I've never watched a bike review and it probably shows. All I could do is talk about what I thought of it. ...and yes, it's got me into the woods just as well as a bike that cost three times the price!
Great vid bud. Let us know how you got on in the race. I'm riding my road bike less and less and more mountain bike as I can get out of the town easier into the country lanes without being run over. Like the idea of a gravel bike though.
Thanks mate! Gravel bikes certainly make sense here with so many forest trails from our back door. The tyres these days run so well on the road that I think gravel bikes are a good compromise. Good on tarmac, but can handle all but the roughest MTB routes...
Something different and it’s not another carbon pony! Enjoy it mate!
Thank you for watching. Yes, I couldn't justify the money that a carbon bike would have cost. And honestly, I'm not skilled enough to warrant one.
You'll be missed in Ireland pal. Poland looks stunning. Speaking of ticks. Took one off my dog today. Horrible bastard's. Great to see you on the trail. A much needed trip.
By the way. The tree at 7.10 was pure freaky.
I didn't turn my back on it!
Man that video got me well excited for next year. What a stunning location. Great to see you back on the screen pal. Looking forward to catching up. Great video. Poland is stunning.
Thanks 👍 This is exactly the area that I'll bring you to...
Hi Ian. A video with a tinge of sadness as you closed the door on your home and ventured off to foreign lands to start afresh. Hopefully the settling in process wont take too long. Those are nice forests and villages that you passed through. Looks like a land with a lot of history to explore. Beer beer everywhere but not a drop to drink 😂, Id imagine you were not too impressed !! Looking forward to more of your adventures. All the best with the new beginnings. Take care 👍
Sounds nice! 👍
Thanks!
Very glad your wife gave you that much needed going away present! 😮 Looked like a great adventure - a big change from the Burren! Wishing you well as you continue to explore your new habitat!! 😎You’re certainly making the most of it!!
Ahh, thanks for watching Miriam. Yes, lucky enough to be able to get out two long weekends on the trot, so definitely trying to.
Great video Ian, and looking forward to following how your adventure unfolds, gutted I never got over to Kayak with you in Ireland so perhaps it'll need to be Poland now
Thanks for watching Dom and sure, any time.

Outstanding hike my friend, these shots are amazing! Absolutely amazing!
Thank you for watching and I'm happy that you like my video. I carry only a GoPro and €99 gimbal, so 'production values' are always going to limited (I only have free software too), but I do what I can with what I have. It's a great area of Europe - have you been?
@@BarnabyNutt I have never visited Poland unfortunately
Not yet…
Really enjoyed that Ian 👌 Really nice variety of landscapes and the towns brought back memories of the older parts of Prague. That field of sunflowers was enormous! 🌻 Looking forward to seeing how you're Polish adventure develops 🇵🇱
Hello Niall, thanks for watching. Yes, the architecture does have a similar look in this part of the world. You can see that many of the pre-war (and so German) buildings are incredibly opulent and built in a very grand style. Now a lot of them are falling apart and neglected, which is a real shame. I can't wait to explore more of this mountain range. Let me know when you're coming over... 😉
Great content bud. Really enjoyed it. 👍
@@theslow_pulse_boy7107 Thanks mate. I still struggle with being in front of the camera but will keep plugging away!
the wind looks to play a big factor here. What time of the year were you there- Jan ?
This was November. I’d been the previous November and the weather was perfect. This time around there had been a storm a few days before and the high winds and waves were the aftermath…
am doing this trip next March so looking forward to it. Looks very exposed at times.
Hi. Thanks for watching. There’s always an option to keep away from the edge if you prefer
Just did it this week. If you need any tips feel free to ask :)
Thank you for the nice video. What is that on your left strap of the backpack? GPS tracker?
Thanks for watching. It's actually the remote for my GoPro.
Gotta love Ireland in these rainy winter conditions. Enjoyed the way you captured your adventure. Thank you for sharing. Left a follow to not miss your next video. See you on the trail 🧡
Thank you for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
Hello. When did you have this trail?
This was November 2023
It's such a cool video.
Thanks for watching!
ThNk you for your great video!!! Amazing. I’m planing to go next september. Where can I find a list of the places allowed to do camping? I can’t find this information and I read that you can’t camp in any place, just the sites prepared to this, but o can’t find where the y are. Thank you !!!!
Hello and thanks for watching. I only used regular camp sites which meant a shower and power whenever I needed it. If you’re used to wild camping, there are loads of places to camp along the route, but it isn’t really allowed. Arrive late; leave early and of course, leave no trace that you were there and I’m side no one will mind too much. If you need a list of the campsites I used then let me know.

What time of the year was this? Is it too quiet?
Hi. Thanks for watching. This was in early November. There were plenty of other people on the trail. Occasionally you could go for an hour or two without seeing anyone. All the towns had plenty of places to eat and stay that were still open.
Very nice video. Watched yours and Niall's back to back. Stunning place Donegal ATB, George
Glad you enjoyed it. It really is a beautiful part of the world, even in terrible conditions...
Cracking video mate. Garlic Island 😂 makes you hungry that place. Gotta get myself up there. What a stunning area. Weather was shocking for you but no doubt enjoyable.
Best thing about the island? No vampires!
Great video, well deserved reward there for staying smiling all day long 👏 👏 👏 I'd say she's good at giving the cameraman plenty of direction 🤣
Thank you for this, have already subscribed and watched both parts of your trip. I love Portugal and have been North to South and East to West along the Algarve coast, but I strangely have not been to this section of coastline. I definitely think the trip might be best completed in two visits so that it retains the enjoyment of walking and not become a chore. Greetings from Co Down
Thanks for watching. You might be right. I did two overlapping sections a year apart and still didn’t do the northernmost couple of days. The bit I overlapped was my favourite part.
Great going guys. Fantastic watch and some good memories made. It’s hard to beat an ice cream for a reward 🍦 👍

Hi Ian. What a fantastic experience !! There is a certain sense of achievement and emotion after completing 8 days of consecutive walking. The sand must have presented some challenges, tough to walk through and to keep out of your shoes 😅. The villages you passed through seemed really quiet, and not many people about. It must have been nice to experience the sea nearby and also the quiteness of the pine forests. Nice video. 👍
Thanks for watching Andrew. It’s a beautiful place and warm enough for me in November. Sand gaiters are the answer. They worked a treat.
