Liszt. Consolation No. 3. One of his more sentimental works, this is a side of Liszt people often forget about amongst the craze over virtuosity - yet a side which is much more mature and marks the way to the genius of his later works. Published the year after Chopin's death, it is hard not to interpret the Consolations of S.172 as a tribute to his close friend, especially noting the similarities with Chopin's Nocturne Op. 27 No. 2. I hope you have an excellent week ♥

There’s no doubt that this piece is easier than Liszt’s other works, however I think people tend to forget how difficult it is to convey the emotion and the message that he is trying to carry through this piece. Not to mention, but the rhythm can get pretty tricky throughout this piece. The left hand consists of unwritten triplets (I, too fell victim to defining them as eight notes) and the right hand mainly consists of eight notes and sixteen notes. As hard as it is to believe, you’ll be surprised on how difficult it is to synchronize the left and right hands accurately with the correct rhythm. Now of course if you are playing at a more advanced level it would be a piece of cake, but this was just my personal experience through this piece. I’ve learned this throughout quarantine and I have to admit that this is by far my favorite piece from Liszt (aside from liebestraum). Not because it’s “playable” and easy, but because of how well it contrasts with his other pieces, which are primarily fast with lots of runs.

I think sometimes people forget that musicians don’t only compose pieces fast or slow. They compose from the heart, you can only imagine what they felt when writing pieces like this. I think this piece is beautiful, despite the difficultly and I wasn’t expecting any form of tempo change. This piece feels like slight despair and an end to something. Liszt throwing in a fast tempo change would butcher the feel of this piece.

I heard this after doing the thing l detest the most crying, l was crying over how hard everything is and how it's difficult for me to deal with, drowning in my despair knowing the thing l want the most is impossible and I'll never understand those feelings everyone talks about, after my eyes had dried and my head felt like it fell over ceramic floor ofc l couldn't sleep cuz of my insomnia,l opened TH-cam only to find the first recommended video is this it's as if music is trying to comfort me. The fan blowing in my face making my hair abit messy and my moist face from salty tears dry listening to thus comforting piano piece as if a person brought a bouquet of blue flowers to match my agony and sat there comforting me and whipping my tears. Thank you so much for this masterpiece and for the efforts you put, I'll always love music and find myself between the keys of piano I'm definitely gonna learn this piece once I've advanced abit more on piano, thanks for this beautiful consolation music.
