Debussy. Rêverie. Such a beautiful piece that captures the title, "a daydream", so well. There is something so soothing about the flowing melodic line, the way it repeats in almost a trance-like manner, that can't help but make you feel like you're in a dream. Did you know that Debussy later disliked this piece? It's fascinating how often this happens to works that become popular, can you think of another case where this happened? A certain Rachmaninoff piece comes to mind, and perhaps a Chopin too. I hope you enjoy this last week of waiting ♥

Debussy's music is something familiar and in the same time something that is really far away. Something that everyone has been reaching for. Something most beautiful we saw ,but we don't remember what exactly it is. And this music opens our minds, and shows us our deepest and most beautiful memories. I've remembered the red sunrise I saw when I was a kid while living in my grandma's house in Latvian village. The village was surrounded by forests and sometimes I was able to see most beautiful red sunrises all around the horizon with a white fog between the trees. That was most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my life.....

The beauty of impressionism. Ironically, Debussy hated people calling his music impressionism, he wanted people to call it symbolism(correct me if im wrong). Impressionism focuses on giving people an idea, but doesn't describe the idea. Therefore, it sounds something familiar, because you have the idea, yet it also sounds far away, because it doesn't describe the idea.

Whenever I hear Rêverie, I think about white lilies near a pond. Pristine clear waters reflecting the wonders of nature around it. The lilies look simplistic yet seem to have a deeper meaning. I can imagine a young woman, brown locks of hair, a floral dress as white as the lilies and a sun hat. The cattails around the perimeter of the pond are disrupted by the young woman gliding her hand across. The wind whistles softly, calling her name as she looks up to the sky to see a dove flying oh so freely, with a will of its own. You are free Tall grasses, as crowded as they are begin to hustle and bustle in multiple directions. The young woman lowers herself to pick up one of the lilies, tying the flower to her hat. Her lover, only a few feet away prepares a small picnic near the pond and lies down next to each other, looking at the white puffy clouds in the sky. Time goes on, and the sky gradually turns a bright orange, messaging them it is time for them to go.

i am very late, but this is interesting, because there was also an impressionist artist who drew an entire series of artworks of water lilies, during debussy’s time: Claude Monet(even their names are similar!)
(though debussy hates calling his works impressionistic and wanted it to be called symbolic instead.)
i think it’s interesting how they knew each other. and they say that star wars is the most ambitious crossover. :)

This piece is very important to me because it's the piece that taught me a very valuable lesson : to never underestimate how difficult classical music can be, its random but this later translated to me to never judge things by how they may appear. This is one of the first pieces I had fully learnt on piano and initially I had thought "oh this doesnt look that difficult, I might actually be able to learn it( I had listened to a lot of liszt's pieces and thought I would never be able to learn them to die the difficulty), flash forward 2 years and I'm still trying to perfect this piece, which taught me another lesson, to always have patience, things dont happen instantly. Some of my friends always ask why I like classical music and the piano so much, and i always feel them that without classical music, I would've never discovered myself truly.
TL,DR : classical music helped me appreciate the world and myself more ig
