This is definitely the best emotional piece by Chopin. This beginning is so heartbreaking and tragic. It sounds like youre at the brink of collapsing into tears. The middle part sounds like nostalgia and happy memories. But then, the doppio movimiento part comes sort of telling you that the memories you had will never come again it ends in a way none of us wanted it to end. Its ending is not grand. It just sort of fizzles out almost like nobody is acknowledging your existence and you sort of go away without a trace. I really want to know what Chopin is going through when he made this Nocturne.

That moment in 3:08 when the calm gets suddenly interrupted by ‘intrusive thoughts’… and then seems like Chopin refuses to return into the sadness of the piece and tries to bring up the calm but it doesnt stop getting interrupted by those raging emotions, that finally (in 4:01) flourish into a dramatic fall for the sadness and acceptance of his emotions. Like he finally allows himself to completely feel the way he does and shows us his inner beauty.
Yo. I can't disagree with the fact that Kassia is very expressive. But you have other great youtubers out there that makes excelent jobs, like Paul Barton and Tiffany Poon. Paul Barton has the most beautiful interpretation of Clair de Lune that I've ever heard, of course is just my opinion. I love all of them, Kassia, Paul, Tiffany and everyone has their strong points. Paul is such a tender guy, he's a painter and also a good teacher. There's no way a guy like him will not be expressive on his playing. Tiffany is a concertist and has awesome videos, her Chopin Piano Concerto no. 1 is amazing. Kassia has videos that when I want to hear a specific piece and I know Kassia already made a video playing, I come over here to listen, like Appassionata 3rd mov or Rachmaninoff moment musicaux 4. Just thinking about it makes me wanna listen again

My father used to play this so beautifully, it inspired me to memorize the notes and play it for my own enjoyment. I never had piano lessons, but I learned to play the first part (before all the big chords) when I was in Jr. high school. I can still play it after fifty years. It is my favorite Chopin Nocturne. I just started learning Op. 55 No. 1 this week, since I noticed how easy it is to play. Can't wait to make it sound as beautiful as I can!
This is one of the most beautiful piano pieces ever composed and you performed it impeccably. TH-cam lacked a good overhead-view performance of this piece and you actually did it! This is absolutely difficult to play (as hard as the Etudes), especially without having large hands. Your hands look small, but you can quickly move and reach the notes perfectly. Congratulations!
Classical pieces like this feel like the most transcedental thing human has ever produced. Only the people who truly are listening to music will recognize this. This music is written at the start of the bright enlightenment. But were now in a period of the ugly enlightenment, seeing people changing in consumption machines and listening to the most simple musictones ever written. Thankfully we have these pieces still around, played by many great pianists like Kassia who give a great touch to it. Well done, and keep on going!

Andrew and The Art of Piano I think it has the perfect amount of recognition. Think about it, if it was more popular than it is, that would kinda ruin its charm. Imagine if it was constantly playing on the radio like other mainstream pop songs. I think it’s better that it’s like this because it shows that only a certain classy person can enjoy such an art.
@@them9dij455 Hard disagree. If more people listened to classical, more people would compose it. The more who compose it, the more classical music we get. All we get now is film scores and the Modern Art equivelant of music that is contemporary classical.

They're just not brought to light because of the likes of the person below your comment who said something stupid along the lines of "no need for new composers, just listen to what's already written". People who listen to classical music (not the musicians, just the audience) tend to be closed to any kind of fresh air, and if it's not one of the sacro saint composers we all love, they won't even bother listen to 10 seconds of a piece. I doubt having more classical on the radio would change that

I have been listening to this nocturne for a while now and it inspires the same emotions every time. It’s full of so many moods, but there is something beautifully nihilistic about it. To me it’s almost like one is accepting their perpetual despair while still acknowledging the hypothetical reality of beauty, happiness, and contentment that will always be just out of reach and therefore creates frustration. To me, this nocturne is the epitome of the pain that comes with the loss of memories. It’s the feeling one gets when nostalgic retrospection gets stripped away by present despair.
This is my favorite of Chopin's Nocturne's. That lead into and shift at 2:00 is really something and then it just builds and builds and builds. God it's so amazing!
That's one of my most favourite of Chopin's music , you can really hear the sorrow behind the sound and what he went through emotionally to write this piece. Every time I play it , I can't but to tear up a bit.

I dont know what this piece makes you feel but for me, it feels like being suppressed. Like wanting to do something but not being able to or trying to say something, wanting to say, but not being able to, or just better not to do. Its like holding something inside even if you know it will be a weight in your back. I literally cried at first time I heard this. 😭
Valentina Lisitsa's comments on this nocturne for more background information: One of Chopin's most priceless performance remarks is at the beginning of this Nocturne -- "sotto voce". Just like that : not a girlish "piano" , not an ambivalent "mezzo forte" , not even meaty forte ( the last thing you want here is an "opera" voice for this melody ).It effectively bars all over-the-top cheap and showy "expressive emotions" -- no eye rolling allowed , no hair flailing, no hands flying , no sobs , no visible tears.... A musical equivalent of the famed British " keeping a stiff upper lip "- this "sotto voce" gives us the right sense of what this piece is about .Just as Chopin's 2nd sonata this nocturne deals directly and openly with such tragic subjects as death, loss and grief ... except , here you are allowed to leave personal comments. 2nd sonata is a depiction of all those things , this Nocturne is a commentary- or an epitaph.....the fifth movement that would come after the Finale ...If you ever visit La Madeleine in Paris ( Chopin's parish church where his funeral was held on October 30th ) think about this Nocturne , OK?

Well played. Chopin was such a master, no classical composer can move me like Chopin. Just composing one of these pieces is an amazing accomplishment, and he created so many good ones, it´s unbelievable.
An immortal piece that is so majestic that it creates its own atmosphere. Those tragic notes in the beginning and the return of the main theme is just structure of a masterpiece. Such remarkable composition gives me vivid visuals about this piece. Visuals so intricate that it defies the dimensional barriers of the physical structures in all the possible parallel realms. It teeters between the reality and the cross reality in infinite time loop yeah I’m high as fuck right now.
@@botondkerenyi1154 the way Chopin composed it is even deeper, with such a dreary raw emotion that I wouldn't even dare to imagine what he thought about when he composed this sorrowful masterpiece. As for a personal thought of this piece, it makes me think like Chopin was screaming out for help, because he couldn't overcome his pitiful situation, his disease and his life's sorrows.
So melancholic and dreamy! I love it! The slow tempo and c minor key give it an almost eerie atmosphere and encompass sorrow, however not all is lost, as the key changed to C major, indicating at some happy memories. It was full of hope and then the tempo changed, got faster and captured the short and sad life of the romantic artist. The first theme is repeated, turning the artist away from the dream and into the real world as the tempo is now fast and chaotic. The composer shows off his master skills of playing. Then it all goes dark and ends in slow, c minor chords. So sad, but beautiful! Thank you for this piece by our beloved composer, who in my opinion, died way too young and had so much more to compose if he were to live longer.

Anyone else completing obsessed with Chopin music, listens to nocturnes everyday? This is one of my favourites to listen to, plus many others. Never tried playing it yet but omg the ending transports me each time… I’m amazed how he could come up with such incredibly elegant music that is complex but at the same time simple. My all time favourite is nocturne op 27 n 2 which I could listen to on repeat non stop 😅😅😅❤❤❤

Ohhh, this Nocturne is a true gem! I love the development of the melody, and the left hand has a very warm sound! I once composed a melody similar to the first section of this piece, but then decided to discard it because it seemed a bit off to me... some weeks after that I discovered that I unknowingly copied Chopin, and this has already happened to me with Shostakovich’s Second Waltz... It seems my mind can’t think of a new melody on its own, hehehe! Anyway, as you told us in your comment, this is a hard piece, but you played with such precision... it is astonishing, under all aspects. You are an amazing pianist, Kassia, I Hope you’ll become famous at a world-wide level, the world needs true passionate executions as yours, thank you!

Again and again I find more chopin masterpieces. The list is ever-growing, ballde no.1, ballade no.4, scherzo no.2, this, sonata no.2, waltz in a minor, grand polonaise brilliante, fantasie Impromptu, there's too many to remember.

This confirms something to me. Years ago a blind pianist called Judith Raskin, a student under Earle Voorhies, played this composition of Chopin and her performance was so transcendently beautiful it haunted me for years. Until now I haven't heard anyone play it so convincingly but this performance brought it back. This pianist is definitely one of a kind, a true artist!
A bit of a tip, you can play the top a flat with your right hand thumb for those notes so you don't have to roll them. Thankfully Chopin never wrote too many ridiculous intervals :D

You perfectly switch between the complicated technical parts and the raw emotion hidden behind the simplest note. There is a fundamental truth expressed in all of Chopins pieces that you really brought to light in this performance.

Sometimes when you listen to a piece, you have the impression that "that is the way the author wanted it to be played, exactly". I think you have achieved that here!

He’s on the verge of quietly breaking down in his loneliness, teetering between control and complete vulnerability. 1:12 - The 4th chord of a minor scale, accompanied by a painful 9th, perfectly mirrors his sadness. At this point, he’s at his lowest, yearning desperately to feel good about himself. 1:27 - Slowly, anger begins to build within him, rising like a suppressed storm, but it fades away as the section transitions. 2:03 - Here, he reflects on happier times-perhaps his childhood or memories of a loved one. The melody is tender and filled with warmth, providing a brief moment of solace. The intensity builds as his mind spirals out of control and tries to fight the darkness. 4:00 - He’s reached his breaking point. The music explodes in a devastating reprise of the opening theme, now more raw and anguished. 4:38 - He can no longer hold back. The emotional weight is unbearable. 4:43 - Chopin is screaming through his music-screaming from the depths of his suffering, drowning in negativity, and breaking down into tears. From here on, the music is a pure expression of pain, unrelenting and raw.
I have listened to countless interpretations of this nocturne by many different world class pianists and I keep coming back to this one. The amount of raw emotion and dynamic contrast you displayed in the doppio movimento was breathtaking and showed Chopin’s true intentions with this piece. Incredible job, Kassia!

2:28 this short progression comes out of nowhere, and it’s absolutely beautiful with that low bass note and beautiful arpeggio from the iii-I is one of the most absolutely stunning short moments of music wow that interval is so nostalgic and gives me goosebumps

This is an amazing rendition of my favorite Nocturne from Chopin! I grew tired from hearing Rubinstein over and over again, and finally she has answered with her excellent interpretation! I absolutely love the slower tempo. Almost makes me want to practice this (even though I can never pull off all the octaves lol). Kassia, if you're reading this, please allow me to make some recommendations/request: can you play Chopin's Nocturne Op. 55 No. 1? I also think that Chopins Waltz Op. 64 No. 3 and Op. 69 No. 2 are two very beautiful pieces that are underrated. Once again, thank you for your brilliant playing!
Each time I listen to a nocturne, I receive vivid images of an empty castle courtyard under the moonlight, and for each time I hear the song becoming “faster” the castle slowly falls apart, leaving only grass, the night, the stars, and the moon.
This nocturne never fails to make me feel some of the most humanistic emotions. Kassia, this is extremely beautiful and your version is one of my favorites now. It stands in Lisitsa's and Rubenstein league. It was such a fresh interpretation and I could just feel your emotions in your this video. So beautiful. Your hard work is always noticed.

Recomendo muito: un sospiro rachmaninoff prelude in G minor chopin ballade no.1 clair de lune liebestraum arabesque além do mas, essa é minha música clássica favorita até agora, diria a qualquer pessoa caso me perguntassem, tem tantas diferentes emoções! What about his G Minor ballade? That’s pretty emotional too, outright Beethovenian at times.

Yo. I can't disagree with the fact that Kassia is very expressive. But you have other great youtubers out there that makes excelent jobs, like Paul Barton and Tiffany Poon. Paul Barton has the most beautiful interpretation of Clair de Lune that I've ever heard, of course is just my opinion. I love all of them, Kassia, Paul, Tiffany and everyone has their strong points.
Paul is such a tender guy, he's a painter and also a good teacher. There's no way a guy like him will not be expressive on his playing.
Tiffany is a concertist and has awesome videos, her Chopin Piano Concerto no. 1 is amazing.
Kassia has videos that when I want to hear a specific piece and I know Kassia already made a video playing, I come over here to listen, like Appassionata 3rd mov or Rachmaninoff moment musicaux 4. Just thinking about it makes me wanna listen again

Honestly, this is a really challenging nocturne. Bringing out the melody from 4:00 is really quite difficult. You played it very well!
My father used to play this so beautifully, it inspired me to memorize the notes and play it for my own enjoyment.
I never had piano lessons, but I learned to play the first part (before all the big chords) when I was in Jr. high school. I can still play it after fifty years.
It is my favorite Chopin Nocturne.
I just started learning Op. 55 No. 1 this week, since I noticed how easy it is to play. Can't wait to make it sound as beautiful as I can!

This is one of the most beautiful piano pieces ever composed and you performed it impeccably. TH-cam lacked a good overhead-view performance of this piece and you actually did it! This is absolutely difficult to play (as hard as the Etudes), especially without having large hands. Your hands look small, but you can quickly move and reach the notes perfectly. Congratulations!
Classical pieces like this feel like the most transcedental thing human has ever produced. Only the people who truly are listening to music will recognize this. This music is written at the start of the bright enlightenment. But were now in a period of the ugly enlightenment, seeing people changing in consumption machines and listening to the most simple musictones ever written. Thankfully we have these pieces still around, played by many great pianists like Kassia who give a great touch to it. Well done, and keep on going!

Andrew and The Art of Piano I think it has the perfect amount of recognition. Think about it, if it was more popular than it is, that would kinda ruin its charm. Imagine if it was constantly playing on the radio like other mainstream pop songs. I think it’s better that it’s like this because it shows that only a certain classy person can enjoy such an art.

I have been listening to this nocturne for a while now and it inspires the same emotions every time. It’s full of so many moods, but there is something beautifully nihilistic about it. To me it’s almost like one is accepting their perpetual despair while still acknowledging the hypothetical reality of beauty, happiness, and contentment that will always be just out of reach and therefore creates frustration. To me, this nocturne is the epitome of the pain that comes with the loss of memories. It’s the feeling one gets when nostalgic retrospection gets stripped away by present despair.
This is my favorite of Chopin's Nocturne's. That lead into and shift at 2:00 is really something and then it just builds and builds and builds. God it's so amazing!
That's one of my most favourite of Chopin's music , you can really hear the sorrow behind the sound and what he went through emotionally to write this piece. Every time I play it , I can't but to tear up a bit.

I dont know what this piece makes you feel but for me, it feels like being suppressed. Like wanting to do something but not being able to or trying to say something, wanting to say, but not being able to, or just better not to do. Its like holding something inside even if you know it will be a weight in your back. I literally cried at first time I heard this. 😭

One of Chopin's most priceless performance remarks is at the beginning of this Nocturne -- "sotto voce". Just like that : not a girlish "piano" , not an ambivalent "mezzo forte" , not even meaty forte ( the last thing you want here is an "opera" voice for this melody ).It effectively bars all over-the-top cheap and showy "expressive emotions" -- no eye rolling allowed , no hair flailing, no hands flying , no sobs , no visible tears.... An immortal piece that is so majestic that it creates its own atmosphere. Those tragic notes in the beginning and the return of the main theme is just structure of a masterpiece. Such remarkable composition gives me vivid visuals about this piece. Visuals so intricate that it defies the dimensional barriers of the physical structures in all the possible parallel realms. It teeters between the reality and the cross reality in infinite time loop yeah I’m high as fuck right now.

So melancholic and dreamy! I love it! The slow tempo and c minor key give it an almost eerie atmosphere and encompass sorrow, however not all is lost, as the key changed to C major, indicating at some happy memories. It was full of hope and then the tempo changed, got faster and captured the short and sad life of the romantic artist. The first theme is repeated, turning the artist away from the dream and into the real world as the tempo is now fast and chaotic. The composer shows off his master skills of playing. Then it all goes dark and ends in slow, c minor chords. So sad, but beautiful! Thank you for this piece by our beloved composer, who in my opinion, died way too young and had so much more to compose if he were to live longer.

Anyone else completing obsessed with Chopin music, listens to nocturnes everyday? This is one of my favourites to listen to, plus many others. Never tried playing it yet but omg the ending transports me each time… I’m amazed how he could come up with such incredibly elegant music that is complex but at the same time simple.

Ohhh, this Nocturne is a true gem! I love the development of the melody, and the left hand has a very warm sound!
I once composed a melody similar to the first section of this piece, but then decided to discard it because it seemed a bit off to me... some weeks after that I discovered that I unknowingly copied Chopin, and this has already happened to me with Shostakovich’s Second Waltz... It seems my mind can’t think of a new melody on its own, hehehe!
Anyway, as you told us in your comment, this is a hard piece, but you played with such precision... it is astonishing, under all aspects.

This confirms something to me. Years ago a blind pianist called Judith Raskin, a student under Earle Voorhies, played this composition of Chopin and her performance was so transcendently beautiful it haunted me for years. Until now I haven't heard anyone play it so convincingly but this performance brought it back. This pianist is definitely one of a kind, a true artist!

A bit of a tip, you can play the top a flat with your right hand thumb for those notes so you don't have to roll them. Thankfully Chopin never wrote too many ridiculous intervals :D

0:00 - The piece opens in a deeply somber tone, reflecting his overwhelming sadness and despair.
0:24 - A fleeting moment of hope emerges, but it quickly fades, leaving him even more disheartened.
0:44 - A distant, foggy memory surfaces-perhaps something positive-but it quickly dissipates, plunging him back into melancholia, emphasizing the depth of his devastation.
1:04 - He can no longer contain his emotions. He’s on the verge of quietly breaking down in his loneliness, teetering between control and complete vulnerability.
1:12 - The 4th chord of a minor scale, accompanied by a painful 9th, perfectly mirrors his sadness. At this point, he’s at his lowest, yearning desperately to feel good about himself.
1:27 - Slowly, anger begins to build within him, rising like a suppressed storm, but it fades away as the section transitions.
2:03 - Here, he reflects on happier times-perhaps his childhood or memories of a loved one. The melody is tender and filled with warmth, providing a brief moment of solace. 3:03 - Reality begins to close in, and the truth becomes unavoidable: he is suffering, deeply depressed, and on the verge of madness. The intensity builds as his mind spirals out of control and tries to fight the darkness.
4:00 - He’s reached his breaking point. The music explodes in a devastating reprise of the opening theme, now more raw and anguished.
4:38 - He can no longer hold back. The emotional weight is unbearable.
4:43 - Chopin is screaming through his music-screaming from the depths of his suffering, drowning in negativity, and breaking down into tears. From here on, the music is a pure expression of pain, unrelenting and raw.
I have listened to countless interpretations of this nocturne by many different world class pianists and I keep coming back to this one. The amount of raw emotion and dynamic contrast you displayed in the doppio movimento was breathtaking and showed Chopin’s true intentions with this piece. Incredible job, Kassia!

This is an amazing rendition of my favorite Nocturne from Chopin! I grew tired from hearing Rubinstein over and over again, and finally she has answered with her excellent interpretation! I absolutely love the slower tempo. Almost makes me want to practice this (even though I can never pull off all the octaves lol).
Kassia, if you're reading this, please allow me to make some recommendations/request: can you play Chopin's Nocturne Op. 55 No. 1? I also think that Chopins Waltz Op. 64 No. 3 and Op. 69 No. 2 are two very beautiful pieces that are underrated.

Each time I listen to a nocturne, I receive vivid images of an empty castle courtyard under the moonlight, and for each time I hear the song becoming “faster” the castle slowly falls apart, leaving only grass, the night, the stars, and the moon.
This nocturne never fails to make me feel some of the most humanistic emotions. Kassia, this is extremely beautiful and your version is one of my favorites now. It stands in Lisitsa's and Rubenstein league. It was such a fresh interpretation and I could just feel your emotions in your this video. So beautiful. Your hard work is always noticed.

Opus 48 no 1 hits different than any of his other nocturnes. What was he going through? How did he come up with this? The complex way he uses the melody in the last section baffles and upsets me, its brilliant. I play it all the time and never get tired of it. **mind blown** -- nice playing Kassia

Eu comecei a gostar de música clássica por causa de um joguinho para celular chamado Pianista, mas com certeza o principal motivo que me fez amar de verdade essas músicas foi ouvir a Kassia tocando. Quando eu escuto ela tocando eu realmente consigo sentir o que a música quer me passar e é um sentimento muito bom

Kassia's interpretations of Chopin are always the best
I love the manner in which you have subdued the initial page of the piece, without giving too much. I struggle with this need to hold one's horses until the climactic moment.
