    Serenade (Ständchen), by Schubert. Written two years before his death, this work is a perfect example of the melancholic writing Schubert was so well known for. Being one of his many lieder (in English, "songs", though today we associate the word 'lied' more with art songs), this piece was originally written for voice and piano (lyrics below), but who better than Liszt to create a beautiful piano arrangement. With this video we also introduce another pianist to the channel - SPQ! Hope you enjoy the piece and have an excellent Monday ♥
    Silently my songs beg
    Through the night to you;
    Down into the quiet grove,
    Darling, come to me!
    Whispering, slim treetops rustle
    In the moonlight;
    The hostile eavesdropper's ear
    maid, fear not
    Do you hear the Nightingales singing?
    Oh! they implore you,
    With the sounds of sweet laments
    They Plead for me.
    They understand the bosom's longing,
    Know love's pain,
    Stirring with their silvery tones
    Every soft heart.
    Let them also stir your breast,
    Darling, listen to me!
    Trembling I awaited
    you.
    Come, make me happy!

      @@tigerboom9030 consolation, although playable, is harder than this. Then skipping not well-known pieces, it gets to Liebestraum. And then Liszt really shows off his virtuoso side, especially in songs with "No. 4" next to their title, such as Mazeppa (Trans. Etude no 4) and Paganini Etude No. 4 (1838 version).

    • @platypusmusic8843

    • @xxepic_swag_gamingxx5238
      @xxepic_swag_gamingxx5238 3 ปีที่แล้ว +59

      It shares its difficulty with Chopin's Waltz B 150; It is not hard to play, but it's hard to make it sound nice the way Kissin or Rousseau played it. Where in Chopin's Waltz, you'll find yourself perpetually perfecting the tempo, here it is the echo that accompanies the main melody in the second half of the piece. I still can't get it *just* right, and I studied this piece 5 months ago.

    • @ayhamshaheed7740
      @ayhamshaheed7740 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Tiger Boom consolation is actually way harder than liebestraum 3. At least, that’s how it is for me. Getting the polyrhythms right is the most annoying thing ever.
      Edit: Idk what i was on about lol, it's nowhere near as difficult. The polyrhythms are difficult for a week or so, but once you're brain understands them its plain sailing from there; its more mental gymnastics than technical, which are far easier to overcome and just requires you to think differently. Liebestraum on the other hand, is a lot more technical and is overall far more difficult what with the cadenzas (which took me months to get right, especially the first one which i still cant do perfectly after 2 years!!), the octave leaps, and the difficulty in isolating the melody during certain passages.

    This song makes me cry, because it has such a beauty that I can’t imagine anything in real life matching. So it feels impossibly beautiful, and that makes me sad that nothing I’ve known or probably will ever know has this beauty. Maybe my partner is the closest I’ve got to this feeling, but even still this song pierces my heart.

    Песнь моя летит с мольбою
    Тихо в час ночной.
    В рощу легкою стопою
    Ты приди, друг мой.
    При луне шумят уныло
    Листья в поздний час,
    И никто, о друг мой милый,
    Не услышит нас.
    Слышишь, в роще зазвучали
    Песни соловья,
    Звуки их полны печали,
    Молят за меня.
    В них понятно все томленье,
    Вся тоска любви,
    И наводят умиленье
    На душу они.
    Дай же доступ их призванью
    Ты душе своей
    И на тайное свиданье
    Ты приди скорей
