No way to get Allen wrench in there and strut fork in original position. So I think the strut bolt comes out first. Unfortunately mine broke.

    One mistake that I made when replaceing just the lower ball joint was not recognizing that the lower control arm sleeve came out rusted to the old ball joint. The sleeve is part of the lower control arm. This part was impossible for me to find a seller online and I had to end up replacing the entire lower control arm ($129 at NapaOnline). Most ball joint replacement videos do not show the sleeve so it can be missed as something to look for. I called two Acura dealerships and they do not sell just the sleeve. It is sometimes a used part they have laying around from old jobs they will give you. I watched a video where a guy had to cut the old ball joint in half and then pound out the threaded post from the sleeve in a vice.

    Why did you replace it? Changed my wheel bearing, which ended up requiring an upper/lower balljoint replacement. Upon doing so, the balljoint sleeve came out of the LCA.... wondering if this ever happened to you? I realized it when I bought 2 new balljoints and neither fit in the LCA, they were much too small because the balljoint sleeve that is pressed into the LCA, came out with the lower balljoint

    is there a difference between oem vs aftermarket when it comes to lower control arms

    • @AutoWizard94
      @AutoWizard94  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's a great question, from my personal experience I haven't had a bad experience with aftermarket parts. Sometimes you may get faulty parts but it's rare, shop around and see what you can find most of the time aftermarket parts are a direct fit just like oem , they reverse engineer them so they may even be better at times. Just don't go looking for the cheapest aftermarket you can find, because if they're really cheap there is a reason for it.

Or the separators that lift up on the threaded stud will mushroom the bottom threads. Happened to me on both lower ball joints. Then I found that hack. Good luck fellow honda v6 brother...

    • @ryanshannon7703

      Some symptoms can be a clunk or knock whilst going over bumps or braking when going up/down grades. Also, this can provoke some steering wheel jitter when braking if you don't have warped rotors (you'll feel that through the brake pedal), although the jitter can also be associated with tie-rod end bushings. Best bet is to just look at the components and if any boots or bushings are cracked or otherwise deteriorated to just replace them.

  • @xCExVoodoo

    Dude I did everything u did, everything went smooth besides the ball joint.. the ball joint would not bulge, 4 hrs wasted (with penetrating oil and a bunsin burner)... if I had a lift I definitely would've gotten it out the arm.. You can replace just the bushings, but you probably have to take it somewhere to have them pressed out/pressed in, which can be smooth, or a complete nightmare. I got lower control arms for my TSX for like, $70 a piece since it's more convenient, but also don't have to wait for them to press-in/out. It's just a time/budget decision, honestly, like most things.

      The ball joint separating from the control arm , and the tie rod

      That ball joint is a p.i.t.a. I tried your method (castle nut on) and it still won't budge.

    why was it hard to put back?

    • @AutoWizard94
      @AutoWizard94  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was pretty difficult to take off with out the proper tools and then it was just a pain trying to get everything back in and lining the bolt holes up

      @AutoWizard94  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AutoWizard94 my 2006 acura tl makes creaking noises when im turning at low speeds and when i am driving at a low speed (15mph)

      Depends how hard you are accelerating. Could b torque turning happens on fwd cars w sideways engines bc it gives more power to the wheel closer to the drive side

      could be so many things. That said, it could be a cracked pivot bushing in the control arm (the rear bushing). By now you probably figured it out, so you tell me what it was?

    Wondering where you placed JACK STANDS? There's no body FRAME on tjis TL.

    • @banstaman
      @banstaman 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm thinking he used the aluminum subframe. Service manual states that the three holes on the subframe are the area used as the central jack point.

    Good removal overview! Also very true regarding unexpected issues, thanks, this conclusion of yours makes it high quality contents. Had to tackle this job more than once due to balljoint not separating. But eventually found a solution - when working on suspension, you need to work WITH the car, WITH gravity, not against any of those. th-cam.com/video/3ipYtp6cRfY/w-d-xo.html
