Thanks! I followed along with this and changed the arm. It was a huge help. One suggestion that might help someone: My little link bar that is the one she removed last was under a great deal of tension and caused trouble. I think it might be because my car was on the ground and the other side of the car was under compression by the cars weight. Placing a second jack under the control arm I was able to compress ths side I was working on to the point where the link was under 0 tension and was easily removed. I suggest you take that part off first and put it on last. Second to hold the lower part of the link from rotating, I cut off an allen wrench with a hacksaw so it was short enough to insert there. Thanks again.

Tips: 1.) the top sway bar joint’s nut loosens the opposite way you are probably turning it as it is facing the other way. 2.) There is more than enough room to use an Allen wrench on the sway bar bolt and nut. 3.) If you’re vertical lower control arm bolt is stuck and will not screw out, it is a size 19 socket, your tire iron in the trunk is also a size 19 put the pipe of your jack on it for leverage.
Took the lady 18 minutes to get it all done. It took me a 18 hours just to get the arm off. 2 trips to junk yard. I Was the First guy to get in the yard and last guy to get out 😕
The control arm should be placed into ride height position with a floor jack before final tightening of the control arm bolts to prevent rear bushings from being damaged. I learned this the hard way on my 2011 Kia Forte.

She makes this look so easy. It took my brother and I , quite some time, to push it back into place for the last part, I had to push it up from under while laying down on the ground, while he pushed it in and into place, I’m not sure where we went wrong. I would absolutely recommend doing it step by step the way she did it using the same methods, it will make the job a lot easier and faster, I would also recommend adding thread lock for added safety. Something I didn’t see her do.
I had to replace both sides yesterday and today. When this amazing mech said I hope it doesn’t spin, my right side did. What a pain. The bolt was seized in the center spacer. Had to cut the arm in three places to get to it. With heat and a lot of muscle is came out. A little problem on the other side with the torsion bar bolt. But I’m almost done. Solid video the way it sb. Many thanks to the mechanic and the videographer. Great job. 👍👍👍👍👍
@@DreadHeadChannel im about to replace them myself as well both control arms on my accord are shot im having a hard time deciding where to buy them if I should buy them online with 1aauto or O'Reilly s?
Yes you want to torque the bolts with the suspension compressed into it's neutral position. The bushings can be pinched weird if you don't and cause premature failure.
At around 12:26 I see you put your thumb under the ball joint and push the knuckle towards the hole in the control arm. Then the spindle moves towards the center of the car so that you can drop it in. How did you get that to happen? Thank you and great video!
Just replaced mine today watched the video and used the 1a auto control arms hardest part was lining up the new one. Definitely and easy car to work on suspension wise compared to some other cars my old Camry you had to remove the motor mounts to change them
Great video! What ball joint separator was used to separate the ball joint? All the tools I can find fork size seems to be not big enough, I believe a 28mm tool is required. Can you please share the details of the tool used.
Wo, Bravo 👏 you did a fenomenal job, you make it look so easy, I watched a couple of other videos and yours is the best, probably because you have all tools you need. I think it’s time To get it installed on my 06 Acura TSX, I have a question; do you need to do alignment on you car after you installed? Thank you for making time to do this amazing video, gracias
It's not bad without a lift. I just finished one side that was really destroyed. only jacked up midway on one side. Air/Electric tools to remove nuts and bolts help a lot, but you can't use it on everything here anyway. Don't mess up the ball joint or you are in for more work, like removing the CV axle from the spindle. I was dreading this too because I've never changed one, but it really wasn't as bad. If you have done other suspension/brake work you should be fine. Its literally like 3 bolts and 2 nuts besides the wheel lugs.
This is why I replace the ball joint and sway bar links also when doing this because I dont feel like taking everything apart again somtimes you got to bring out the torch and bang away I hate doing control are and suspension parts
If you dont have that fancy ball joint separator, can you use a hammer? I have seen other videos (of people changing ball joints on a truck) and they hit the control arm body in like 2 hits it releases like magic.
if you have an 03 watch out. the front bolt that has a nut welded to the frame can get seized onto the bushing and is very hard to remove even with a breaker bar. i thought for sure the nut was going to break off. i let it soak in penetrating oil 24 hours but it didnt make any difference the rust had seized into the threads. many ccw turns at over 200 foot lbs. of torque and it finally broke loose
The tact welds that hold the nut for the bolt that goes through the compliance bushing snapped on me while removing. And you were right... it definitely wasn't a good day lol. Finding a replacement Class 10 14mm x 1.50 flange nut was a pain in the ass. Screw Honda for those round welded nuts. lol
Just had this happen to me on both sides, had to cut through the bolts in two places to get them out. Went through 18 bimetal sawzall blades in the process. If you're willing to shim sleeve, grade 8 SAE in 1/2" is .05" too small and easy to source. My bushings were completely locked up on the bolts. I also cut out the sway bar links since I was replacing these. Remember to load the suspension, or jack up the hub before you tighten the control arm bolts.
And now I am afraid doing this job… not sure I want to deal with this now lol. I’m going to try and break it free in a moment. If it’s not budging, to the mechanic it goes
Thankfully, I have my uncle who is a retired vet and experienced mechanic. He does jobs like these for me for dirt cheap. Otherwise, I'll do simpler repairs and maintenance myself.
Just curious, do you have to replace the lower control arm, or can you just replace the bushing? Was there something wrong with the control arm that you were working on? Oh, and nice work, by the way.
14:56 Is that the same sway bar link that came off the car? I assume it is new from the boot being torn by the vice grips to keep the bolt/nut from spinning rather than using the hex 3:19.
+Rigo Aparicio We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Good tutorial however the wishbone and rear control arm bushing ain't going to last as they were torqued down with the suspension drooping. As most people will be doing this job with the front resting on axle stands torque down the ball joint nut, hockey puck bolt and sway bar link first then place trolley jack with piece of wood on the ball joint nut and raise the suspension until the car just starts to lift off of the axle stand then torque down the rest
Good procedure, good videography. Missing critical items though. Number one, NO SAFETY GLASSES! The guy who did the axle replacement emphasized it numerous times. Second, you obviously sprayed liquid wrench on everything, but you don't mention that either. Lastly @ 18:00 you undo the bungee cord, but it was never recorded that you used it. I think you should reshoot the video, if for nothing else than the use of safety glasses.
That LS460 is awesome! Yes I know my friend traded his in because he would have been charged a fortune for this very repair. You're better off just cutting through the bolt, twice top and bottom, with a sawzall. You then just remove the arm and get a new bolt.
This lady is the GOAT.
I have a 04 accord but in Caribbean it's call a inspire arm bushing totally busted hv the parts for it I think I'm gonna change it myself

Do you have to torque the bolts down while the suspension is loaded?
jocool562 from what I heard yes
Yes you want to torque the bolts with the suspension compressed into it's neutral position. The bushings can be pinched weird if you don't and cause premature failure.
Yes... I did it without loading the suspension and had creaking noises. Retorqued with suspension loaded and no more creaking.
@spinozasdreams And the car would drive fine. "Driving fine" isn't the issue or concern; it's premature bushing wear.

I thought you are supposed to torque the lower arm bolts while the suspension is loaded?
That's an absolute must. You should load the suspension, or jack up the hub until the control arm is in the neutral position before tightening.
Tip-only torque the bolts when suspension is at normal riding height, if you don't do that, bushing will fail prematurely
How you get a torque wrench in there with a wheel on?
Answer!!
You jack up the suspension under ball joint

does the control arm come with Bushings in them?
Just curious, do you have to replace the lower control arm, or can you just replace the bushing? Was there something wrong with the control arm that you were working on? Oh, and nice work, by the way.

You can just replace the bushings, if you have a press to press them out.
