This was the most amazingly narrated, comprehensive, and well-shot how-to video I have ever seen. No music, no BS. Just a dude, some tools and his car. I don’t even own a Mustang nor do I ever search changing out a transmission. Thank for this, TH-cam algorithm.
I don't have a car with a manual transmission (yet), but here I am, watching another car video at 8 in the morning. This is one of the best instructional videos that I have ever seen. Big ups.
Absolutely fantastic video... the tons of work you must have done planning, capturing, and editing are all evident here. I also really appreciate how you do this with handtools and a QJ. As a fellow "driveways and jackstands" guy, this is underrepresented in today's youtuber's who all have shops and lifts and sponsors. Finally, as an S550 guy, this is an awesome blueprint should I ever need it to swap out my MT82. Bravo!
Word of advice from a mechanic, ALWAYS replace the rear main seal, regardless of kms on it, and where possible, with an OEM one, and lube it with engine oil. Very good video, welldone.
I've watched hundreds of hours of vehicle and racing content. And I've even installed one of those in a Supra. This is HANDS DOWN the best step by step, with nothing left out, installation video I've ever seen. New sub!
I neither have a Mustang, nor the means to DIY a transmission swap. But for gearheads, this is almost like an ASMR video. I watched the entire clip and was in awe! Top stuff! thank you kind sir!

8:08 This level of videography and editing deserves a shout-out. It took him a minimum of several minutes to set up just that one shot, all to add a bit more clarity and save us a few seconds of viewing time. BTW, I'm not trying to shame creators who don't have the time to do stuff like this. Most of you don't make money doing videos, so you don't need to apologize for saving your time. I just want to give a salute to mechanic filmmakers like Hagerty, Jafromobile, Donut, this guy, and others when they go the extra mile (kilometer... Kessel run... whatever) as a filmmaker. To me it's as beautiful as the cars.
I did this swap on my Supra and have to say, MAD respect for being able to film the entire process. Holy crap that must have been a ton of work. Great Video! Also, I was able to stack my Quickjack rubber blocks to get enough clearance to slide the T-56 with a transmission jack under the car easily. It was initially too low to put both blocks at the same time, so I lifted the car up, put rhino ramps under all 4 wheels, lowered it added the extra blocks. It's really stable and saves you tons more clearance.
I've never even seen a Mustang up close so I have no idea why I'm watching this, but damn they look pretty easy to work on compared to other modern cars. Seems as simple as my Miata, kudos to the engineers. Edit: except the tuning the torque management part, that pretty alien to me.
Good choice going with the 2.66 first gear option, a lot of people get stuck on the numerically higher gears and wind up putting down too much power with too high first and differential gear, basically makes first gear totally worthless. Doesn't help that OEMs have done the opposite, they have a high final drive and first gear is low as hell, 4x or better. Looking forward to your projects.
Even though I have no plans in the immediate future of doing a T56 swap or use it in anything, but it's nice to see a step by step in how to do this! Not many people would actually document let alone film it and do it with the torque specs and procedures.
These videos are awesome. I've been building my s197 for about 6 years now. It's come a long ways. These videos have helped me out alot! Keep up the good work. Always look forward to you posting about your mustang.

Great tutorial man. A lot of tutorials touch on the important information but would leave out a lot of the little things a beginner would question. You touched on everything...some might suggest using medium locktite on a lot of the hardware to be sure it doesn't vibrate loose. This is a tutorial done the right way.
Theres something so wholesome about finally getting a gearbox that you know will handle the abuse, best purchase I ever made was a 6 speed dccd swap for my subaru!

As always, some of the BEST automotive content on TH-cam. The production quality is insanity. What camera do you use? This inspires me to kick my butt into gear and upgrade my content - big time.
You deserve more credit for this video. Haven’t really decided what I want to do yet. I have a 06 gt with a procharger so I was thinking of just doing the engine and trans together so getting an 8 bolt crank and then doing a 6060 but if I do it separately and do the engine first but still want to use the stock trans for a bit then I can just do a t56 swap when needed. Thanks for the info!!
Hey it's Dugger, this was an amazing step by step installation. I get impressed more and more with every video on the Mustang. Every single video you upload is spot-the-fuck-on! I just recently sold my red 06 GT and bought a sterling gray 13 GT, but I still am just as, and now even more excited to see the turbo kit installation and test drive. I absolutely dig everything about your Mustang build and progress. And I will be here til the end. You are the absolute best at doing these vids on the S197 '05-'09 Mustang platform, hands down. Now to my question that's been making me nuts for a CPL years now eheheheheh, will you be putting the car up for sale for more funding for your other projects? Don't yell at me lol, because I know you will have completed the ultimate mustang gt and will probably be keeping this amazing trophy car. But I just had to ask ok? And if so I'm first at the car!!!! Anyway lol, KUDOS brother mustang lover, you are doing great things. Keep the vids coming!!!!
Excellent video. The fact that you did it on the floor is incredible. Had to replace my clutch but ended up piercing the exhaust system harness against the bell housing causing the oxygen sensor fuses to blow and cause a check engine light. Going to do it on the floor since I no longer have access to a lift
It's great to know that we always have the option to choose a Tremec regardless of a 60s build, or even a recent era build. The MT82 in my '12 GT was just so frustrating. Upgraded the shift linkage helped a little, but not a lot.
I just got done doing this on my 2010 GT. I had to watch several other videos that were not nearly as helpful, and of course as soon as I get it finished you drop this absolute banger. You are the man for making this video. It would have helped me so much 2 weeks ago LMAO. I did this the exact same as you, except it looks like you got your car just a little higher than I could manage. I also did not change the trans, only the clutch. It took me so long to get the bell housing bolts off, probably because they haven't been removed for 13 years. Also getting the trans off the engine was nearly impossible. I gave up several times, but I eventually managed to kick its ass hard enough that it just gave up and released. The whole process was a real struggle for me, and I am just happy that it's over. No issues so far, so I think I got everything right. The point is, I feel your pain. This shit sucks without a lift. You're a demon for doing this under the car. Thank you so much for this informative, concise guide.
it is a badass trans, love how smooth and easy it is to shift, doesn't take much to learn the muscle memory to shift quick. most defiantly a must to have. the trans will even make a stock engine more fun to drive.
Wow, wow, wow! Like everyone says, this is one of the best informative build series, period. Your work to make these videos put together must be phenominal! Keep going, you're the best, really appreciated. THANK YOU!!!

I dont even own a Mustang or any muscle car but I watched the whole video. Great work and great video. Just to the point while explaining every little detail.
I bought a 93 Camaro new to go road racing, it came with the regular old BW T-56, ben road racing this car for nearly 30 years now, been through several engines mainly to build more horsepower, got a 625 horse LT1 in it for the past 8 years, 225,000 miles on the car now, one of the fastest cars at the track, have blown 9 rear-ends, the last three Ford 9", have never touched this T-56, took Ford a long time to come around but finally, shifter broke a few years ago, put in an MGW, good to go.
Excellent video, I don't even own a Mustang but this is super informative. One thing I would do different is to remove the fill plug first to make sure you can refill the transmission once you've drained it. Plus, it'll equalize the pressure as it drains and help it drain faster.
The aluminum flywheel does what it is intended to do, but it really sucks for street use. Been there done that. Granted, clutch type helps, and the McLeod is a good choice. I have the RXT 1200 with lightened steel flywheel, and love it.
Best install video ive seen yet. Makes me confident that I will be able to do this exact same swap when my transmission finally gives, I have 155k so far on my 09 Bullitt Mustang, replaced the clutch around 100k or less, its been good. But lately I have been having issues of getting the car into 1st gear from a stop only. Once I get rolling smooth shifting, unless im power shifting into 2nd which I get that grind..
