    There have been a few questions on weight. I covered that in Ep 25, but I should have put it here also. But as the car sits it weighs 3915lbs. That is less than a 200lb difference from stock and I am pretty happy with that. I have over 20 lbs of weight reduction planned, but of course the supercharger will add some back in. I am looking for other potential weight reduction opportunities long term like an aluminum front differential housing, oil pan, etc.
    The other common question is torque split, I guess the video wasn't clear, but it is variable from 0-100%. Basically 2wd mode to locked up.

So many manufacturers parts, so many custom parts and you've captured every step of the process in great detail. The problem with modern cars is if you want to do anything out of the ordinary you need to be not just a good mechanic and welder, but also electrician and possibly computer engineer too. MegaSquirt has made making a custom ECU simpler for the everyday guy, but it would be nice to see these sort of partially complete, universal, DIY systems for other things, like AWD, or running your HVAC and other in car luxuries even though you have an engine swap.

    And the last ep where you drove the car up a snowy road with all 4 wheels spinning.

    I have a 2015 mustang V6. I did a lot of research into making it AWD. The new V6 explorer with AWD has an oil pan with a front differential mount and the jackshaft tube. The explorers also come with 3:31 axle ratios so that lines up with the V6 diff. The MT82 was offered on a land rover with 4x4. An adapter to run an awd transfer case would be needed, but it has the rear flange, hopefully it could be built up like a callimer stage 2 with mustang internals and the LR output shaft. I found that some Xdrive BMWs have a similar front suspension design and their knuckle might be able to be altered to work. That's about as far as I got into researching it. Now I just need to win some money.

    • @npvg
      @npvg  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I like your thinking. I do think you are going in the right direction. I too realized that they made a 4wd MT82 in Europe. It was also used in the Ford Ranger and Maybe the Transit? Either way, that could be a good base. I just wanted to use a TR6060 period.
      One think to look at for is where the engine is relative to the front axle centerline in the Mustangs vs the 21+ Explorers. It seems that the engine is much farther forward and that may cause some issues. But it is worth investigating.
      With the TR6060, I wanted at least 3.73 gear (I ended up with 4.09's) and the Explorer front diff is only available in the 3.31 and 3.58. I am not sure who makes the Explorer diff, maybe other gears are available in other applications. But that is how I ended up with the sort of odd Toyota diff, I needed something that fit that also had the correct gears available. I really wanted to make my own CNC housing and use a low pinion Dana 30, but it was just to big of a project.
      Keep me in the loop if you proceed with this project.

    That’s awesome! Only observations, the temporary shaft going through the oil pan, I’d say put the weld joint outside the engine. If it fails under load now it’ll take out the engine. And I’d try to figure out a way to put the steering in double shear, that’s a lot of unsupported stickout. But I’m more of an off-road guy, so that may not apply on the street.

  • @Joebauers2505
    @Joebauers2505 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I love this the only concern i have is the jack shaft thru the oil pan, i feel like a better solution would be to modify the oil pan to fit the shaft underneath or go to a dry sump.

    • @npvg
      @npvg  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is very common in all of the modern longitudinal AWD cars. Look up BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, jaguar, dodge Nissan.

    • @Joebauers2505
      @Joebauers2505 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@npvg my main concern was with the idea of add boost and I'd assume you want to make serious power is that if something lets go in the drive line the amount of potential damage to the engine and undercarriage.
      I'd also assume you've considered this but I feel like there was a reason why none of the American auto makers made the high hp cars awd, mostly referring to the hellcats,vets,gt500.
      But I do look forward to future videos and the potential this has. As I would love an AWD mustang

    I was thinking kits for this would be amazing the other day, but this video really show cases how not plug and play this would ever be. so much custom fab work is required, the cost and time for a kit would make it priced out of most peoples budgets. youre really killing it and i love seeing it come together.

    This is truly amazing. The fact that you figured out how different parts could work together is something special. These are the kind of projects that inspire people. I don't know if it just takes engineering or money to be able to do this, or both, but man, this would be something I'd love to have. Great work!!!

    I have been in the market for an AWD coupe that isn’t slow for a while now, unwilling to pay the hilarious asking price of an Audi S5 or BMW M440i xDrive. Been saying for a week that I wish ford made an AWD mustang, and I get this god-tier video recommendation. Great work!

    Talk about a real old school shop. If the part doesn't exist just make it! So much stuff is just available nowadays that you can puzzle piece of car together. It's really cool watching someone do it the way they did in the '60s and '70s where you had to make everything yourself pretty much.

    i have an awd bmw e60 with a twin turbo tkm built coyote with pure drivetrain solutions 8hp95 rated for 1800hp (bmw version of trackhawk transmission) using a bmw x5m front differential. its 3.15 final drive, and i have a ford 8.8 rear diff with mustang 3.15 ring gear. the x5m diff bolts to the sub frame and axles fit, i just need a custom oil pan for the coyote that the diff can bolt to and pass through. i need someone to take some 3d scans and design an oil pan! i first saw your videos back when you first started, and originally was going to ditch the awd and do the simple rwd but i saw your awd oil pan and it made me go for it.

    this is without a doubt one of the most incredible garage builds ever. you are insanely dedicated and talented.
    After your done with shakedown, I would love to see 0-60, 1/8th mile, and 1/4 mile times without the boost just to see how much improvement you get just from switching to awd. i hope thats on your list of stuff to do! im rooting for you, this project is amazing!

    I said it before and I'll say it again. I am a DODGE guy however I absolutely love watching your videos. And I watch them all the way through from start to finish. Seeing the amount of Ingenuity and time you've put into this car is absolutely mesmerizing. When you take parts and pieces of metal that aren't supposed to go together, cut them , weld them and it bolts right up, or that bearing slides right in and somehow it all works and works flawlessly in my opinion. It's insane and really cool what you've put together.

    Wanted to do an AWD conversion and stumbled across your video. All I can say is 'wow'! Between the parts sourcing, custom machining, designing parts (that front diff cover is amazing!), you truely are a craftsman.
    Maybe I won't be doing an AWD conversion after all, haha.

  • @randr10

    Once again, fantastic job on this project. This channel is super underrated. One of my favorite things about how you did it is the extensive use of OEM factory parts off of other cars instead of absolutely everything being custom or speed shop stuff. This gives you a huge reliability factor and you can get parts pretty much anywhere. Obviously the modified parts will present some issues, but all the wear parts save for the CV axles are pretty much off the shelf plug and play that you can get at any auto parts store.

The fact that it looks like no mods were made on the car ( not a hack job ) shows a very high level of skill and planning! I say this with a little jealousy of your skill level GREAT JOB SERIOUSLY!!!!!

  • @Fk8td
    @Fk8td 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yes, this is an absolutely amazing build. This guy should be hired by the best of the best.
    The only thing I might be concerned about is the fact that the jack going through the pan could possibly cause pan flex maybe causing it to leak. This is of course, in high horsepower applications. Independent on how much power you put down to the front. Usually cars that have a jack shaft don’t use a steel panel usually like an aluminum pan. It becomes a supportive feature. It might be a bad idea to have one made.
