Hi Don! I'm new here, just wanted to stop by and say hi, and that I'm really enjoying your content. I'm a 12-year associate at Store 1794 in PA, who's also been driving Class B (Busing) for 10 years. I've applied for the Associate to Driver program, so I'm really enjoying learning about this side of things from you. One thing I've not seen from you or other drivers is routing. I genuinely have no clue how it works in the industry. Is it something that the company pre-determines, or do they just say, "here's your load, this is where it needs to go." and it's up to you to get it there? Super Curious. I get that there may not be too much you can show - I know full well how Wally can be with "Sensitive" things... just wondering if there are some aspects you may be able to share.
Well in the old days they did just tell you here's the address of where we want you to deliver and now go get it. Back then we had map books and I would write the directions on the window with a crayon type of marker and then wipe them off as I go with a napkin. Nowadays with Walmart they have a navigation system in the truck and you simply type in the store number. It doesn't mean you trust it completely if you've never been there before but generally it's correct. If I haven't been to a location before I will look at Google maps on my phone and compare it to the navigation system and then get an aerial Google Earth shot to zoom in on so I know the layout of the store or location. You never want to follow Google maps because it is not truck routing but it becomes pretty obvious when you compare that to the navigation system what is a main road and a road that could possibly go through a neighborhood where you shouldn't be. After a few years it doesn't really matter anymore because you've been to all these stores in your region probably many times before.
@@mr.ComnandoSpawn You're probably right I should make a video about that because we have very little paperwork at all anymore. Most everything we have is on the tablet and it doesn't require much interaction from us. It's really not that difficult to work the tablet once you learn it. I hated the old days where I would go through a pin every week because of all the paperwork.
@mr.ComnandoSpawn I could talk about it but I'm pretty sure they don't want us showing what's on the tablets. I know some guys show what's on the tablets on TH-cam but I'll probably just describe it more than anything.
If the roads open and it's safe to go you should put chains on. They pay you $60 to put them on. If you believe the road is not safe but still open then you can opt to not put them on and park it.
Wow you guys ADP stay strong over there because all them miles, nice $440 first day out. I never see that out my DC. 600 plus miles daily. It’s kind of like not fare to the rest of us. We work just as hard. Here we go again let’s be honest bro be honest you not going to make the same money if you running the truck down the road, yes you paid but your day Adp will drop if you are delayed and the miles are down.
@@TcBigHurt I agree but that's the way Walmart is doing it I guess according to location and I suppose how much money their stores make. The other thing to consider is I'm getting paid on a pay scale of 17 years so that's going to be more of course. That's why I usually say in my videos it's not going to be the same everywhere but this is what's happening out here.
@@jiwi04 oh yes I do work 12 to 14 hours a day I thought you meant the driving. Yeah the video you're commenting on I actually worked like 12 hours a day because it was longer miles so there wasn't a lot of need for on duty time.
