      @20plustrucking  ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@KrazyKrzysztof for me it is not worth it to be home everyday. The reason many truck driving jobs make a lot of money is because of the long hours. If you live extremely close to where you work it can be doable but if you don't it makes it really hard to go home everyday. Before Walmart there was a short period of time that I did local work and I lived about 45 minutes from work. I was working 12 to 14 hours a day and getting 2 days off. I found myself rushing to eat and visiting with the family as quick as I could so that I could go to bed as soon as possible. Because of that I was tired all the time and the quality of life was not good at home. The two days I had off wasn't enough to recoup from dealing with that every week. Working at Walmart and going out for only 5 days at a time allows me to get more than enough rest every day. The fact that they have many choices for different schedules is a game changer when it comes to home life and work life balance. Also the amount of PTO is amazing And I make much more than most all local jobs. The fact is this beats most all driving jobs where you go home every night hands down.

    I drove for a major Grocery Chain in So Ca. where I retired from. We had to unload our trailers at the store ourselves with the help of a store receiver, they often times were just anyone the store could find not lways the best person for the job.at the time. In those days we did not have power jacks in the store we used a rubber wheeled hand jack. A pallet of milk ,36 cases, weighed a right at 2000 lbs. not much fun at all. I did it for the money and future retirement which I now enjoy. Eventually all the store got power jacks but the we unloaded by ourselves, no help. I was actually much easier by ourselves.

    I worked for Walmart for 2 years. It wasn’t bad but I was out of Marcy, NY and spent 95% of those 2 years running out of NH pulling their trash Boston loads or Eastern PA running their Jersey loads nonstop. Got tired of it and went local hauling fuel. Make more now than Walmart and work 4 on 3 off but it’s hard work and dangerous. If I ever left gas hauling I’d probably go back to Walmart but the 5 days living in a truck isn’t for me.

The thing is now Walmart themselves are telling everyone how much you're going to get paid in the first year. Also now there is a referral bonus to get if someone is hired and well let's just face it You can talk until you're blue in the face but the only thing people want to hear is how much money am I going to make? Lol I felt the same way you do for years but then I realized we had to stop the lies about if you just go to college your life is going to be so wonderful and if you become a truck driver you failed in life and it's over.

    Divers care about home time and pay.
    Please remember you are talking to guys like me that have run them all flatbed, 10 car, dry van, etc.
    Last time OTR, I was getting a new truck every two years at 600K miles running refer.
    I would go out for three months at a time ( Maybe a little more ) and take two days off.
    I was making about 45K and it was a well known outfit known for good pay.
    I got out because their is now money in trucking that I know of.
    So this is my question. If Walmart pays so good and is so easy to work for. Why can they not find drivers? Why will drivers not work for them?

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Actually every time they hire in a location there's hundreds of applications but only a small handful of people actually get the job. It was like when I got hired there was 125 applications and only four of us got hired. The fact is they're not going to just let people in all easy like a lot of these other companies do You actually have to prove you are what they are looking for. Also Walmart is completely changing how they do business as far as how they handle their freight. They're trying to get rid of the majority of all the outside carriers and replace them with actual Walmart drivers. We've already hired more than 6,000 drivers and they're still going and will be for a while to accomplish their goal. Many of the DCs that are grocery DC's across the country have been ran by outside carriers that will be going away completely at some point. As a matter of fact they have also been testing out teams to run freight completely across the country but I'm not sure what the future is with that. So you see they're not just hiring some drivers because they need them they're actually hiring tens of thousands of drivers to completely change their business which is a completely different thing than if a company can't find drivers.

    • @ironwoodworkman4917
      @ironwoodworkman4917 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@20plustrucking Thank you for the detailed reply. I know you speak the truth when it comes to " outside carriers " In the past. I hauled many, many loads for Walmart in the past. Both dry van and refer.
      Running in house is a very smart move as well, But I thought Walmart has tried this many times in the past.
      Maybe this time it will work.
      I wish them/Y'all luck.
      Also DC drivers is very smart as well. It is a win, win for everyone. It is just safer for the drivers.
      I just hope divers have it better than I did.
      I can not really talk about how hard I ran. But I ran very hard and always on time out of Montana. They all kept pushing for more, more, more. All of time taking a little pinch of my paycheck. More and more over the years.
      I am a very good driver, This is why they would have me on test oil, test engine, test tires, etc trucks.
      The one thing I learned. No matter how hard you work and how good of a driver you are. They all will want more, more ,more and pay less, less, less until their is nothing left of the man. Only a shell of a man, until he is a few weeks, before his death.
      If this is true change. I will die knowing that some drivers have it better than we did.
      But I have never seen any change in this industry for the divers. Only talk. But always in the end lies. Nothing more.
      When I first got into trucking I loved EVERY thing about it. My trucks would always shine. 24/7. The only thing I could think about was being a better driver. I thought in time, I would work up the ladder and be able to earn a living. Maybe pay for a small house and have a box to live my last days in.
      Five years passed buy and I still had hope, Then five more years. Still thought it would have to get better some day. Then 5 more. etc.
      All the time, none stop lies about how trucking would pay out some day and life would get better.
      It took me many years to finely give up, I am hard headed. Broke my hart to do so.
      I wanted to live the dream so much.
      Now, when I see OTR trucks. I get a little sick. I feel like it was the biggest mistake I made in my life. Just a waste of time.
      Now I work construction and run some heavy equipment now and then. It pays the bills and I get a few hours of sleep every night.
      I will believe it when I see it. And I do hope it is real. I really do not want other drivers to waste their life like I did .
      If it is true You! my friend @20plustrucking are one of the very few lucky ones.

      There’s tons of people I’ve met that are private fleet drivers that are totally living the dream. What I have discovered is most of them are not good with their money, and need more and more every year to stay above water. The ones that focus on their life and not making more and more have more than enough and are satisfied and feel they have purpose with this job. When I was OTR it seemed obvious there was no light at the end of that tunnel. Instead of giving up, I just tried to work smarter not harder at what was available as far as trucking goes. I believe there’s other jobs out there that are as good as Walmart or better. I just don’t know what they are so I stay here. I guess I gave up looking lol.

Also if you buy stock they give you a certain amount every payday at no cost. I think the biggest benefit working here is you get paid excellent and you have lots of paid time off. They only save recordings if there's a hard breaking or an accident or something like that.

      @20plustrucking Thank you! He's been slip seating for two years with his current company. He's going to take advantage of this time and try to quit smoking. He's stopped for 8 years at two different times. I forgot to ask if the driver seat has both right AND left armrests? Do the trucks have inverters? I saw that they have refrigerators, but do they have microwaves. Another driver told my husband that they did. Just curious. Also, are you allowed to have a coffee pot in your truck? Thank you again for the information. He starts onboarding on August 21st.

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scottysgirl3380 after about 6 months I suppose a year maximum he probably won't have to slip seat much anymore and have his own truck but it depends on the DC and what schedule he picks. They don't provide a microwave for you but you're allowed to have your own microwave and coffee pot and whatever TVs etc. Yes there's an inverter that can run all that. The truck I'm currently in has two arm rest and I believe the new ones do also. You're allowed to change your seat and I believe Walmart reimburses you I believe up to $300. The shop install it for you. I see the newer trucks provide a CB radio with antennas also. Not that I'm encouraging not to stop smoking but this job is laid back enough to where you could just stop and smoke if that's what you choose to do. Pretty soon here I'm going to have a video that fully shows what's in the new trucks and everything about them. Like really soon lol so stay tuned and you'll get an excellent tour of the new trucks.

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It just depends on what your disability is and how bad is it. I know that if you have high blood pressure you have to have blood pressure medicine to control it. As far as diabetes goes I would imagine you'd have to keep that under control with medication also. As far as some sort of physical problem like with arms or legs I'm not sure how they do that or allow it. Truck driver has to get a DOT physical every two years and they have to meet the requirements within that physical. Probably look it up online on what is allowed and what is not when it comes to the DOT physical.

      I would imagine it's your standard DOT drug test. Doesn't get much stricter than that. Far as I know it's just a pee test.

      It's nothing to be scared of. Here in the west they simply just don't let you through if you don't put them on. I'm not about to sit on the side of the road and do nothing even though they pay me to do that if I choose.

      @@4real775 I think that's true sometimes but not all the time. There's times where there's really no storm and there's only a light amount of snow on the ground but they're going to make you put the chains on to continue on. Then there's times where the storm is blowing in and it would be unwise to drive into such weather. This is all part of being a professional driver with good judgment.

      Not really, unless you do it all the time no matter what the conditions. If you’re not taking advantage of the system, and you really are trying to be safe, they don’t have a problem with that.

      Lol there's plenty to choose from but the trick is find one that is willing to live the trucking life and ride around with you. Better yet find one with a CDL so she can do half the driving lol
