    Excellent and important exposure of what really impacts folks in our current global society. Thank you DW! You Rock! I remember a doc on truckers coming north from central america due to shortage of truckers and better opportunities. The personal sacrafices are different, but still not acceptable. These truckers took their whole families along but it wasnt easy regardless - for anyone. Glad youve shared this with all of us. Our instant goods are not free shipping in the human sense. Even in a different country i am that much more aware thanks to you. Regular eating is so hard due to time crunch and availability and PARKING - which is a whole other bundle of yarn.

    Go Biggi! Wear steel toed boots! Thanks DW for another excellent documentary. USA also has a "driver shortage," but it really is a retention problem because it is very hard for long-distance drivers, who are treated as independent contractors, to make much more than minimum wage after subtracting expenses and considering total hours.

      Truckers in America are considered unskilled labor (on purpose) and in this way the employers don’t have to abide by the labor laws which apply to trades and skilled labor.
      The 1970s were the golden age of trucking and it only went to sh!t ever since Jimmy Carter’s carrier deregulation in ‘79. (funny how everybody blames Reagan for that, but the trucking deregulation was Carter’s deal)

    Truck driving in Europe looks pretty cool. Beautiful scenery and the cabovers have more room on the inside than I thought. The truck stops look clean too. Definitely would be a nice change of pace to get to drive in Europe for a year or so

    • @Ward413
      @Ward413 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Totally agree. I also feel like that super cheap fleet spec interior we often see in the states isn’t as common with the cab overs in Europe. I’m sure it exists but I feel like a majority of the European trucks I see have the leather wrapped steering wheel, heated/cooled seats, buttons on the steering wheel, nicer seats, etc. that we usually only get on like owner/operator spec trucks. I’m curious how their trucks ride over there too because our trucks are a nightmare; even a brand new 2024 Freightliner Cascadia rides so violently. Even with the seat on the softest air setting, the smallest bump will send me flying through the roof. It’s unbearable. Volvo is the only truck I drove where I could go over a rough road without being thrown all over the place as the interior rattles itself to death. I wonder if the Cabovers are better built.

    • @ScotiaDiesel
      @ScotiaDiesel ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Ward413 I hope to answer your question well.
      I would say the base spec model trucks here in Europe are well equipped. They have things like heated seats, steering wheel controls, A/C etc. The higher spec models tend to add things like leather or infotainment or digital climate control etc. But overall I'd say all trucks are well specced.
      As for comfort, I would say I have driven MAN's, Iveco's and DAF's that I thought were a bit harsh, but again most trucks, especially Volvo and Scania are very comfortable, even if it's a base spec Volvo FM or Scania G-series. Obviously, the higher spec trucks ride even better and, for me, the best is the Volvo FH16 Globetrotter XL. The automatic gearbox (most cabovers are auto these days) is flawlessly smooth and the truck is very quiet and comfortable on distance. The Scania R-Series is also very good.
      I hope this answers your question, drive safe friend!

Everything, it's a job that destroys you and your family for the boss to have a nice house and a few expensive cars, while you get a tiny bit, average 14 hours per day, minimum 12 hours shift, constant stress with traffic, tight places, restrictions, bad planning from the office and so on, it's a job that pays well, but wen you look into how many hours and stress and broken friendships and relationships, it's a life style simple as that.

    It’s the same here in America, you would go into the truck stop in the evening and sit in the professional driver area and all the drivers would be eating and talking about whatever came to mind and having a good time. Now with all the foreigners no one talks and the old drivers got out of it or retired.

    I hope the announcer doesn't feel weird or embarrassed about talking about an average person's life compared to the scale of genocide or climate problems they usually do, but I think this video is a great place for truckers to share their stories of life in the comments. Might be one of the most vital yet underappreciated careers in today's world, and yet I've repeatedly been completely unfamiliar with what life looks like for my Trucking friends, and whatever they tell me usually sounds surprising
