People he not lying. Remember the phrase “The Walmart Way” and carry that with you the whole time you work for Walmart. I touch every lug nut everyday because they pay me 6 figures to do so plus other things I need to do. If you swollow your pride and do it there way Walmart will be the very best truck driving job you will EVER have. I guarantee it. It doesn’t get any easier than that.
I’ve been through onboarding but failed on my last day missing a critical, it was the fifth wheel, It must be mentioned before coupling and after coupling! I believe the biggest thing is having a routine when you do your pretrip! That’s the one thing that helped me the most was having a routine!
There is 5 elements to the 5th wheel you have to get. Also all 4 pins on the tandems. The handle has to be locked in place. Those are the biggest failures on pre trip. They will show you exactly the way they want you to do it. Backing is 20 minute timesld. Critical getting out and do a 360. Driving just don't speed. 1 mph over is a fail.
Good info all true a lot of guys that come to Walmart develop bad habits(me included lol) so when you get to onboarding the 1st few days you are gonna learn how to do things the Walmart way all those bad habits you developed over the years throw them out, we had a few guys in our group that just couldn’t understand that one of the biggest issues was maintaining 4 points of contact when getting in and outta the truck guys were stepping out of the truck like they were walking down the steps which is a no no, they will warn you and if you persist they will let you go no questions asked see ya. Another auto fail was improper lane changing guys were changing lanes while passing underneath the stop light instead of waiting until they were through the stop light, speeding was another auto fail, Walmart is about safety you might ask yourself is it necessary to touch all the lug nuts well I had stopped by the shop and another driver pulls up and one of the lugs on his trailer was loose so yes it is necessary. It just doesn’t stop there periodically one of the ops managers will go around to where all the loaded trailers are parked and observe drivers to make sure they’re doing things correctly, getting out checking the height before coupling, checking to make sure the bolt is in, handle is in and checking to see if the jaws have locked around the kingpin. When you go to a store you better make dang sure you do your 360 walk around before backing into the dock because they are watching. Might seem like Walmart is being petty but it’s all about accountability and if that’s what it takes to continue to reap the rewards I’m all in lol. Be Safe
This probably seems all a bit much but mostly this is in the beginning to qualify to get hired. No doubt most all Walmart drivers do all these things correctly but it's like any other habit it becomes just second nature fairly quickly.
Some of us do t talk much who have been doing this for years I am a truck driver because I am not a people person so I’m quiet your driving record has already proven it
May I ask you if they accept re-location??, I’m really interested in applying but I’ve never seen an opening in my area ( south Florida) Thanks in advance Donald
I've always wanted to drive for Wal-Mart and I think I'd be a good fit with the culture... but I've hesitated because of the onboarding process. That being said, I respect their demands and what they're doing. They want the best of the best and they have every right to pick and choose who's driving their trucks.
I went through onboarding last year in Delaware for region 4. About 1/3 of the people failed out. They failed for various reasons including attitude. One guy was kind of a class clown and openly talked back to the instructors...he failed. They're checking everything about you and assessing if you're a good fit for the culture too. Anyway, been here a year, got assigned a brand new 2024 back in December last year and absolutely nothing I do here is difficult. I made $120k my first year just by working steadily and I've earned 5 weeks of time off. Take a vacation from your current job, get paid to go through onboarding and then quit your current job with no notice....you're not going back anyway.
I didn’t want to work at Walmart but this Walmart way has me rethinking. I have too many drivers not writing up obvious problems with the assigned truck I drive. I can’t stand it.
If you work for Walmart you can easily drive for them because they have their own school where they’ll show you everything & get you ready to drive for them .
Hay man. I’m a new local driver in SoCal. There are no videos out there about local Walmart drivers and how they get paid.. i’m not interested in doing videos, but if I feed you the information, do you want to do the videos?.
That would be great because I've got very little info about local other than the small example we have at our DC. Send me an email with the info and I'll do a video on it. don@20plustrucking.com
Good info. Also Inform the candidates of other candidates that instantly become brainwashed puppets. You just gotta decide if this is for you or no. They also pay every two weeks. It's not for everyone. Deff not me. Best wishes 😊
No you're right It's not for everyone but I wouldn't say people are brainwashed they just want the easy life making good money vs Work your butt off and not get paid well.
After 22 years as an O/O I like to do my own thing too much to work for someone else if I want to go fishing next week I just do it I’m not asking permission at 52 years old to live my life as a truck driver we work the equivalent of 2 full time jobs we should be able to enjoy our time off as we see fit
@mikeedwards320 well that's how I do it here. I feel like I want to go fishing tomorrow I tell them I'm taking tomorrow off or maybe even the whole week and it's no problem at any given moment. This is the only company job I know of where you can do that. The reason I never went owner operator is because I didn't want to be trapped with a responsibility of a massive truck payment every week in case the freight went to crap. I got really close to doing it and then changed my mind and never looked back.
@ you will hard pressed to make me believe if you get home in a Friday and you told your driver manager on Thursday that you were taking next week off to go fishing I really find that hard to believe oh and my truck is paid for I don’t have a payment

Bone head these are basic checks that means you drivin trucks unsafe your an unknownng 7:12 stupid bastard!!!!
It’s boot camp without the stress lol. In a good way. Walmart should absolutely hire the way they do. I don’t see a lot of cranky Walmart drivers.
Yeah me neither. Most of the drivers I know are thrilled to be working here.

Sounds like a headache You might want to say something about it.
@@20plustrucking does no good. We need drivers so bad nothing is ever done.
You mean mistakes like driving 10 hours to your terminal then climb in the truck and go to sleep at the wheel
Yeah that would be a problem for sure.
I looked for an opening at the Sacramento DC. Nothing available.
I'm sure one will come available soon. Seems like the McClellan yard in Sacramento is looking pretty often.

Let me know what their opinion is on already having your CDL and going to that program. So far I haven't heard how that goes from anyone.
It is a pretty awesome program for somebody that's just getting into this.
Right on I'm glad it's working out.
Does Walmart hire new Cdl drivers right out of school

I don't know why not it doesn't affect anyone else unless you're spitting on the floor.
No. Walmart has a zero tolerance tobacco policy for all trucks, and that includes chewing tobacco.
