Legends Arceus only looks "good" as it was bc of how bad they royally screwed up BDSP But if Legends Arceus was released without S/V or BDSP, no one would even think it looks good
One of my favorite memories I had playing this game was not paying attention to the dialogue, and didn’t know where to go after the 6th gym. So I ended up spending that time in the restaurant in the resort, battling. By the time I figured out how to continue the story, my Infernape and Lucario were mad OP for the rest of the game. Then I got humbled by Cynthia. Good times.
I had something similar in 3rd Gen. I didnt know what to do after the 5th Badge but instead of battling and figuring it out i restarted the game because little me thought it was broken and you cant continue past 5th Badge 😂
Omg. Same. I had an Empoleon and Starapter though. I literally couldn't figure out where to go for like two years, and then one day I remembered that I had seen a wooded-up area when I had started the game. The game was about as fun as I've had with a video game because I was young, wasn't using the internet for answers, and was solving problems for myself. It made things that much more worth it and fulfilling when they happened. And btw, even with all of the extra training I had trouble with Cynthia at the end, and I was so young too that I hadn't even connected the dots that Cynthia would be the Champion at the end. In fact, since it was my first Pokemon game (and first experience with Pokemon) I didn't even know how big of a deal the elite four and the champion was. I think I had an inkling that something would occur at the end of the game, but I didn't have much to go off. I miss playing pokemon like that. You really only get one opportunity in life to play the game like that before you know too much. I was lucky enough not to be exposed to the internet. Hell, I was having trouble with the second gym!
Btw. I also used my master ball on my starapter when it was a starly. I had no clue how important that thing was so I never caught Girantina lol. Later on, I found out that it was in the ruins in its world stage. I stumbled upon that too.
I can't believe someone else was stupid enough to do this... I thought I was alone and this fact has haunted me for over 15 years. I kept using the VS Seeker on the trainer with the high exp rewarding Eevee team just up the road before this coastal city. My team was upwards of ~70 before my friend, who finally caught up to the same city, coincidentally demonstrated himself walking through that conveniently hidden door to the city's southern exit.
The gen 4 "overworld" was actually already in 3d, just a very subtle one. The battles were 3d first time in gen 5. Both were still pixel art, however they were 3d. So in conclusion: no it did not simulate 3d, it was 3d
It does fulfill that vision , but fans are stuck with the nostalgia of the older games. Don’t get me wrong I love the older gens too , especially gen 3 ,it’s my favorite but I LOVE the remakes too. The fact that the newer games feel like an actual open world is amazing. Not to mention the Pokémon are more lively now and have different personalities which is nice to see. It’s like watching the Pokémon anime come to life. Lastly the special attacks are definitely the upgrade. The only thing the new games are missing is the iconic music of the older games. Music makes a big difference which is why Tobey’s Spider-Man is the best because he had the best music which gives you s feeling that the others don’t. Same thing with the older Pokémon games.
@@jg2722 the issue w open world games is that sometimes music becomes an after thought. you’re so bombarded with things and have to pay attention to sounds so the music either has to be more subdued or the player just isn’t able to pay attention in the first place. plus newer music in pokemon still has that “pokemon style” but it’s a generalized sound front, but the games from the time have their own unique sound front due to limitations of the gameboys and ds. i don’t think the bdsp remakes are as good due to the fact that they scaled it 1:1 to account for the chibi aspect of the player character, which maybe worked in oras, but it makes it incredibly hard to traverse around the map especially on a bike without bumping into everything, especially in the pokemon tower. not to mention the camera angle made me feel like i couldn’t go certain places. those are tiny nitpicks BUT they are basically ruining me wanting to explore around the map 😭 the underground in bdsp is WAYYYYYYYY better and i agree w the personalities of pokemon. i’m crap at playing pokemon but i can see that the games have gotten a lot easier. kinda wish there was an option for shitty players like me and younger audiences and an option for older audiences or ones who played the ogs and wanted a challenge, but that’s an often contested idea about the pokemon games. i think bdsp is an okay game but def not my favourite remake/revisiting of both sinnoh and overall pokemon franchise. which is unfortunate since pearl & platinum are my favourite games. i just hope they do better for unova.
I will always speak highly of Platinum. DP is completely different from Platinum. Like I hate going into buildings in DP. They are so bland, and Platinum fixed that with ease.
That opening music gave me a shot of nostalgia and I miss being 9 years old living with my parents and sisters in our first house and having no care in the world
Man all this love of platinum and you didn't even touch the extensive post game. Not just the battle frontier but new routes and hundreds of new pokemon and areas
Preach! That was really amazing too! And compared to the normal routes the difficulty of the terrain really makes you think that you are one of the best that you can survive that kind of rough environment
I really hate how the remakes got the short end of the stick. Gen 4 was my first generation and my favorite so it really hurt me when I played the remakes.
@@wikiuser92Sales are in no way a measurement for quality. You need only to look at the mobile gaming market to confirm that (raid shadow legends comes to mind as being a particularly egregious example). I don’t know what your favorite parts were of the remakes and what made you enjoy them. But if its the pokemon designs, region exploration, story, gym-battles or many other examples: you may not like the remakes, you may just like the games they were based on. At the very least you must be annoyed at the poor performance and glitches (Some of which are pretty significant, such as the ice gym puzzle being entirely skippable)
I still play Platinum today on my DS. Such a rich experience that I never get tired of. So far clear of any other Pokémon game for me, and maybe any other game at all
I really enjoyed the more personal/sentimental connections you made to your experiences playing Pearl as a kid, I think it added a lot of personality! Keep up the good vids, glad to see you’re back 🤙
It really was that good. Diamond and Pearl had one downside and that were the slow battle animations and health bar. Platinum fixed those issues and brought a lot of extra features to the table. Platinum is a great Pokemon game.
I’ve been playing Platinum on my Steam Deck with RetroAchievments. And I gotta say, Retroachievements really does make it feel like a new experience. Going through the game and unlocking new achievements feels so satisfying, and has had me doing things that I either never would have otherwise, or things I straight up didn’t know existed! Like, never before had I messed with Jubilife’s lottery system, or spent so much time figuring out the mechanics in the Game Corner with that Clefairy minigame. It’s such a fun way to return to a childhood favorite. My first entry was Diamond btw, my brother’s was Pearl.
@@sullyg9342 It’s a community driven website that makes achievements for pretty much any system that lacked them, so you can play all your old favorites and earn achievements in them, just as you would with modern games on modern consoles. It’s a fun way to track your progress, and also to tackle challenges that you may not have otherwise. You basically just make an account on the website, then sign into that account through your emulator. Plenty of emulators support it now, like Retroarch, PCSX2, PPSSPP, etc. Plus, as an added feature, it adds scoreboards for loads of games. So for example you can play the SSX games and your fastest run will be put up against everyone else’s. Also there are site wide rankings, so it’s fun to see where you land amongst the rest of the community. You earn points by getting achievements in your games, and some achievements are obviously worth more than others. For example, in Pokemon Platinum the “Mine Diamonds” achievement is earned for getting the first badge. It’s not that hard so it’s not worth that much. But the “App Enthusiast” achievement, for getting all the Poketch apps, is a lot harder, so you earn way more points for getting it. It makes earning those harder achievements feel so much more satisfying. Especially because you can see how many people actually manage to get each achievement, so that Poketch achievement, for example, only has 5% of players managing to unlock it. Edit: You also get a cool little pop up every time you unlock an achievement, which for whatever reason my brain really enjoys.
@@sullyg9342 I think my comment got deleted for some reason, which is a shame because I spent a while on it. But there’s actually an excellent video on TH-cam that explains it super well called “what are retroachievements” if you’re curious.
Short answer YES. Long answer YEEEEEEEESSS. Gen 4 had the best adult vibe game like it was actually a game for growing pokemon fans. The design of the chararcters were mature. The pokemon designs had a much cooler theme like each pokemon was based by cool adults that love pokemon. The story is so much darker and adult themed. If you notice I keep saying adult and thats just what made it great. That it felt like it was a pokemon game made for adult pokemon fans.
The problem with new Pokémon is that they have forgotten the genre of their game. Pokémon is an ADVENTURE GAME at its core. Sword/Shield and to a somewhat lesser extent Scarlet/Violet all have limited pathing, less room for true exploration and yet also have incredible camera freedom. Pokémon is at its best when you don't know what's waiting just outside of vision. 3D age killed the sense of wonder and suspense that the GB/GBA/NDS era of Pokémon all embraced. I knew Pokémon was truly dead when in Sword/Shield you see major events happening and you get nudged into ignoring them and just doing gym leader challenges like a good little boy. I'm sorry? What happened to taking down criminal organizations and defeating gang admins and infiltrating bases? Now all I get is a very nice view of empty fields with a couple of Pikachus in them.
In this very video he questions that looker deposits way to much responsability on a child, specially in Pastoria City and the bomb. But if Swsh in one cutscene, the champion of all people takes full responsability it's a problem. How is that a problem? Often I ser that a child should not save the world but when a game tells you that thhe champion takes care of the problem is an issue.
Honestly I really loved S/V ending cuz for the first time in a pokémon game you don't face potential death on your own. You have friends with you, and that is so amazing! (Note: Actually, X and Y did that too) I just love that very much, cuz it always urked me that I had to do everything alone and never really had friends to rely on. I think in terms of rivals/friends, no game has been as great as S/V. Everyone of your friends has their own thing going. They don't depend on you entirely and it makes the game feel more lively and realistic.
Yes especially coming from Diamond and Pearl. Those games were unbearable with how slow the pacing was in terms of everything. Battles were like a chore because it was so slow every time. Glad Platinum fixed all those things and added even more story and content in it. It's what people remember from gen 4 the most.
I love Hikari's DP dress more than her Platinum dress. I still agree that Platinum is better than DP by gameplay and PokéDex. It might have sucked that the Manaphy giveaway events were for DP. It is cool that you can mark the Pokémon as seen from a mansion.
Looking back at it, it's obvious they kept some pokemons for Platinum that weren't featured in D/P national dex. Worst example is probably Magmortar, it's a brand new one and they had only 2/5 fire types for the fire Elite 4, there's no way they'd forget to put him in. Despite the fact that they were not selling well, 3rd version are nowadays the best way to experience those games, I'm glad they were a thing in the early gens.
@@imab0t274 By that method, it's harder people to use the memory link and other features that are more accessible on physical DS cartridges. If you're able to go through that level of trouble to experience the majority of what the game has to offer, you might as well homebrew to get the rest of it.
There was always something about the sinnoh region, the starters, the music, everything. This was my childhood! Wish I could go back in time to these days
the gen 4 remakes made me really REALLY badly want them to not make gen 5 remakes. let em figure stuff out for like 10 years then take a crack at gen 5 please.
@@EchonoxYT if I remember correctly the gen 4 remakes only had 2-3 years of devtime, and I think that's all the thought they were given. I wanna give em 10 years though just to get over this hurdle of making bad and buggy pokemon games, not specifically in gen 5 remake devtime.
I feel you man but at least the remake can never ruin the greatness of the originals. I honestly dont know they couldnt have just put the effort they put in ORAS. Tho I still prefer the originals ORAS was a decent remake.
I literally never comment but this was such a well made video I had to. Your sense of personality and humor are great and your timing with the music was phenomenal. Subbed and looking forward to more content like this. Stand proud, you're funny
Pearl was my first game too! I remember playing in the underground with friends and family in elementary school, and was incredibly excited to see what was in store for the remakes. Surely they would've built upon what already existed and add to it using the features of switch online, right...? That aside, wonderful video as always. It's a good day when there's a new Echonox video
Many disagree with me but i prefer Platinum over HG/SS Its just my personal bias, i freakin love that game so much i got into rom editing and now i have a million more ways to play my favorite game.
I started with Saphire and Emerald when I was a kid and got hyped when OR/AS came out just to realise they ignored all the good features of Emerald. It was still fun but I was disappointed. My second fav was obviously Platinum, there was so much to do and explore. So I got hyped again when Brilliant Diamond came out, but I was disappointed AGAIN when they dropped all the good features. It was fun nonetheless, it was my first game where I completed the Pokedex but it didnt live up to its former legacy.

Heck yes it was. Im replaying it right now and after owning and playing every other main Pokémon title ever, I can say Gen 4 (and 5) were incredible. Especially compared to modern games. It’s not that “we got older” it’s that the quality and difficulty of games has severely decreased in recent years
This was a huge nostalgia trip, Pearl was my first ds game as a kid, never got round to platinum so may try and find a copy one day. Personal fav pokemon era for me was this tho. Dp, HgSs, Bw 1&2. Conquest, Mystery dungeon, Rangers. Bliss

@@Ukraine.8888. Also a cool thing about those games is that you can also catch the other legend. In HG you can also catch Lugia and the other way around. Really cool because in other games you always needed the other one to combine both legendaries.
The ProZD bit that you included was downright perfect. The first time I saw that skit I was like "man that sounds like Cyrus from Pokèmon gen 4" Glad to know I wasn't the only one
Gen 4 in general was just so good in almost every way. The art style, the music, the new added Pokemon, the Sinnoh region in general, the post game all were really great. The story was something for everyone and not just kids with their "friendship is magic" bs that they do today. The honeytrees were crap espeacially if you were going after Munchlax and the slow moving Hp bars but those are just minor flaws imo since we had Hg/Ss (don't get me started on those, damn that's how remakes have to look like Gamefreak...) if we really wanted to have Munchlax ^^ I'm glad i still have my copy and my original DS and 2Ds to revisit it whenever i want :) Btw fingers crossed that Kevin gets to see this ^^
oh buddy, you should have played Platinums postgame, too, because even that was expanded upon in comparison to Diamond and Pearl we got a Mt. Stark story with Buck and Team Galactic, Gym Leader rematches, our own villa, catching Dialga and Palkia, the Legendary Birds and so much more
I thought you appeared in my recommended because I regularly watch Pokemon videos but after finishing the video I realized you had the same name as one of my favorite Geometry Dash creators back in the day... Nice job on the new content direction!
I have never felt a more primal sense of wrongness than when I saw you get your starter to its final evolution before the third gym, thanks for that. Platinum is amazing, glad to see the vid. Definitely my favorite pokemon game
Platinum, HG/SS, Emerald, and B2W2 are the gold standard for Pokemon games. Platinum: great region, pokedex, story and villain, one of the coolest cover legendaries, amazing starters, best soundtrack and champion out of any game. HG/SS: two regions which is automatically the best post-game in the series, great cover legendaries, best boss in the series, great starters, and Pokemon following you. Emerald: Arguably the most iconic region, the second most popular legendary on the cover, one of the most best and most iconic soundtracks, probably the second most popular set of starters and a great post-game. B2W2: These are in my opinion the "best" Pokemon games on an objective level. So much high quality content it's insane, great Pokemon selection, second best post-game in the series, perfected the top down 2D art style the sprites look incredible. These games perfected the Pokemon formula better than any other.
I'm glad I was finally able to experience Pokémon Platinum. I hope you enjoy the video! By the way, if the person who stole my Nintendo DS and my copy of Pearl all those years ago is watching this... I will send Giratina to your house. Be afraid.
Yo wtf I remember losing my torterra card did I end up giving it to someone from school?? My name is Kevin lmao. What school did you go to. this a huge cohencidence!!
In 2010, I played Platinum for the first time on my ds. I was three (I fret you not), and I remember picking Piplup because it looked like a tv show character
The games could have ended the series and I would have been happy. Good story, difficult battles, physical special split. The best part was how they gave multiple Pokémon from the previous 3 gens new evolutions. Felt like they really completed everything in this title.
If I recall correctly they were developing black&white from around 2008/2009 and that pretty much served as a then modern day reboot. (New dex, no old mons till postgame etc) so with that in mind in regards to your comment I feel like gen 4 truly was a very fitting end for the first 3 gens. Unova onwards to me always felt like a different era and that even reflects on the pikachu reset in the anime. It’s a shame tho coz bw2 follow up with gen 4 as the best games imo 😅
@@1saintt538i don’t think they started development for black and white in 2008 or 2009 considering heart gold and soul silver released in 2009. I believe black and white were in development in 2006 and came out in 2010 so about 4 years of development. same for heart gold and soul silver, it started development in 2006 and released in 2009 in Japan and 2010 in the west. So 3 years of development. Both heart gold and soul silver and black and white were most likely in development along side each other.

A legit copy of Platinum it’s expensive but well worth it. Great game with a ton of things to do post completion. The battle frontier will keep you busy for many hours alone. Same as Emerald. Also expensive but worth its hefty price. Can’t go wrong with either game.
18:49 Technically, Nintendo has nothing to do with the Pokemon games beyond publishing them. It's Game Freak who makes them. (Though in BDSP's case, it was ILCA who made them.)
Yes it was. Nostalgic, great new story, good difficulty, great legendaries, great starters, great artstyle. For me it was the pinnacle of Pokémon games alongside HG & SS perfected the Gameboy advance formula
I swear Pokémon platinum has been the scene for some of the best adventures told in this platform. Also, congrats on the edits. What a shock from Cynthia while chasing the grunt!
I played it again recently, and I think it was real good for the time. I think if Scarlet did not have technical flaws, it would be on the same level (specifically after the DLC, Indigo Disc rocked) But then again, it always depends on age group at the end of the day, you'll always like the ones you played when you were younger. As a certified Gen 5 hater, I mostly see people in their 20s like that gen (and maybe late teens) when it was utterly despised by others my age when it was new. And now it's happening again with Gen 6 now that Legends Z-A is out (which I'm glad it is, since I prefer Gen 6 to 5 by a lot).
@@Ukraine.8888. I have. As someone who thinks GSC is just a bad game (played again right before the eShop closing, like what were they thinking with this game!) HGSS is a lot better. Started my pokemon dive on FireRed GBA, played that for a couple years then bought Ruby but for some reason I didn't like it or most of that gens pokemon so I dropped it. DS came out and parents bought me one. Played that Mario N64/DS game and Nintendogs. Then Diamond/Pearl released. I got Pearl and my buddy had Diamond. We played the absolute piss out of those games. The jump in the graphics and audio (IMO best music in any pokemon game) the new features/gimmicks/activities you can partake it were exciting to mess with. BIG feature was inserting your GBA game in the GBA slot on the DS and your D/P game in the DS cartridge slot and being able to transfer pokemon from one game to the other. Bringing back my old crew and my very first pokemon was truly a great experience, bringing them with to continue the journey vs leaving them behind in an old era. As I got older and new titles came out, I never bought Platinum and I pretty much left the Pokemon series behind as I didn't take to the new gens designs and mechanics. So P/D/P was the last gen for me. I may give them another shot though.

Platinum is definitely one of my favourite games from the main series, happy to see you cover it on the channel 👍
I will always speak highly of Platinum. DP is completely different from Platinum. Like I hate going into buildings in DP. They are so bland, and Platinum fixed that with ease.
True, but honestly, I just wish they added more repeatable content to some of the cities, like Canalave, Eterna or Snowpoint
Platinum fixed a hell of a lot more that DP lacked.
That opening music gave me a shot of nostalgia and I miss being 9 years old living with my parents and sisters in our first house and having no care in the world
Action replay to get the events like regigas and secret key makes this game the best
Am I seriously the only one who likes BDSP?
...Nah. I can't be. They outsold Platinum and are the best selling Pokémon remakes, after all.
@@wikiuser92ok and? still shitty remakes
@@basedchristianmale Your opinion.

@@daanstrik4293 I don't think the game had any severe glitches. I personally enjoyed the graphics and improved boss battles, among some other things.
I still play Platinum today on my DS. Such a rich experience that I never get tired of. So far clear of any other Pokémon game for me, and maybe any other game at all
Naming your Pokémon after relatives pets and friends is such a sweet thing to do

I’ve never thought about replaying it with achievements, that sounds really interesting!
I don't have steam deck, can you explain me what's retro achievements ?
That's a really cool concept, I'll have to check it out!
Hope you see the shiny clefairy at the game corner!
(Note: Actually, X and Y did that too)
I just love that very much, cuz it always urked me that I had to do everything alone and never really had friends to rely on. I think in terms of rivals/friends, no game has been as great as S/V. Everyone of your friends has their own thing going. They don't depend on you entirely and it makes the game feel more lively and realistic.
Also, the open world concept doesn't work well imo. Keep it simple just like the classics. I do give legends of arceus a pass though.
Platinum is my second favourite pokemon game only behind BW2, but wow the soundtrack is just beautiful and the game is overall super fun.
I’ve gotta pick up BW2 some time, I always hear great things about it

need a platinum remake rn
the gen 4 remakes made me really REALLY badly want them to not make gen 5 remakes. let em figure stuff out for like 10 years then take a crack at gen 5 please.
But they already had 10 years to figure stuff for the gen 4 remakes... maybe they actually need 20 years for gen 5 XD
The solution is to simply not let ILCA touch remakes ever again
I feel you man but at least the remake can never ruin the greatness of the originals. I honestly dont know they couldnt have just put the effort they put in ORAS. Tho I still prefer the originals ORAS was a decent remake.

To put it simply,
Yes... yes it was
Started my pokemon dive on FireRed GBA, played that for a couple years then bought Ruby but for some reason I didn't like it or most of that gens pokemon so I dropped it.
