Most parts of the game like walking, battle animations, dialogue etc are sped up like hell. Nothing bad, just skipping some things that buy time and make it more interesting to watch on stream or on youtube.

i did this exact thing when i was attempting elite four in pokemon red. i wasnt ready for a serious attempt but managed to beat them when i wanted to see how strong they were. i even soloed the champ with my venusaur. ig elite four in gen 1 just sucks

Imagine being an Elite Four Pokemon trainer, one of the best out there, and you have to sit through a battle with your own Pokemon constantly failing to land a hit while the opponent is playing a flute like a smartass...
This was epic! Much better than me, my first time playing it took several days to beat the team rocket base since I did not know you could answer questions instead of fighting the grunts lol
Imagine watching your Pokèmon get poisoned and faint right in front of your eyes, slowly and helplessly. Confused and unable to think straight, your moves keep hitting the wrong copies, and yourself, as your opponent dusts off the few hits he took as a scratch.
And all you can remember is that nasty, scary tune of the Pokèflute.

I loved this video/idea so much I went and did a full run of Crystal and managed to beat Red with a team in the 60's (Meganium, Jumpluff, Exeggutor, Lapras, Haunter, Snorlax) Took forever but was a ton of fun!

i like what he did there at the end making all the words that meant "it died" start with what ever letter the pokemon that died started with
rewatching this after a while and realising the best thing about that phonecall after giovanni is the lingering psychology going on there. you *completely* psyched him out, and that probably made him "work faster", which 100% translates to panic and fumbling and on average increases the time it takes to finish. You planted a seed that continued to distract him and psych him out. You literally used Leech Seed on him to slow him down. Fucking hell Tanner

The idea seems pretty straightforward, just use moves that don't directly deal damage. The only issue I see is how to deal with that at a low level, where you don't have access to moves like toxic, will-o-wisp, leech seed, recover and perish song to kill opponents while healing yourself.
I like how the title and thumbnail imply that you did this peacefully but in reality you just slowly tortured everything to a painful death

imagine being poisoned paralyzed and confused and someone just sitting next to you as you suffer playing the flute what’s worse is they might not even be good
But you can't be paralyzed and poisoned at the same time in the games (but after checking to make sure I remembered right, I learned you can have both statuses in the card game)
I always imagined the PokéFlute use to be a sweet tone that supernaturally awakes the pokémon. Realized recently that it may be a more jumpy tune. But in this video, it was obvious it was a ShittyFlute rendition of My Heart Will Go On!

This run reminds me of one of my favorite combos back in the day: toxic chansey. Super poison the opponent then minimize, softboiled, and defense curl through anything they throw back.
As you pointed out later on, things like shed skin or synchronize weaken the strat. Still fun when it works, though.
