Let’s all make a stand on not buying any Pokemon games unless they show us something worth buying and has a value along with considering our interests.
"Just box your friends to not end up overleveled" Yep those people learned nothing from N's lore from Black&White. My guess is these ppl probably started playing Pokemon from X&Y
There's a reason people wanted "gen 4 remakes" Not "diamond and pearl remakes" All 3 games have parts that should be included, But platinum by far has the most of them.
I also call gen 4 as with HG/SS, i know those were gen 2, but they came out during gen 4, and they added so much. New routes, post game content and exclusive locations for a few legendaries.
ill describe it this way: fire red made me not want to play red, soul silver made me not want to come back to silver anymore and omega ruby made me not want to grab my ruby copy because all three remakes improved upon their originals. brilliant diamond? made me grab my copy of platinum as fast as I can get, and never let go
Honestly ORAS was truly very good. I have a lot of nostalgia for diamond and pearl since they were the first Pokémon games I picked up, but honestly BDSP was kinda a letdown. I kinda hate how they smothered mega evolutions tbh.
The moment I saw BDSP being developed, I immediately sought out and bought a second hand DS and platinum still in mint condition. I'm glad I did, since this game's release, they have shot up in price - we aren't the only ones disappointed with this disturbing trend of new games.
@@Sleepyhead_Salby yea, really makes sense to release a game in 2021 which takes only elements from the lesser version instead of bringing more content and balance. hey, but as long as its technically a DP remake everything is good and legit, right? well worth full price
I love how you make a point I cannot believe people don't consider: NOT EVERYONE CAN UPDATE A NEW GAME. Sometimes the wifi may be awful, maybe someone lives in the countryside, and a ton of different reasons. A game MUST be playable base, period.
Here's a good example, I live in an rv, this means I'm dependent on cellular networks for my downloads and because of this currently have limited data, surely they should be able to comprehend exactly why I may prefer a title be actually finished when I get it, sure, I can still download, but when you have 120gb of data a month, you may be inclined to think before downloading stuff.
I miss the era when games were completed the moment they were released. When they cared about adding stuff that you won't find in any modern pokemon game. I miss the time when the developers used to pour their heart into their games, instead of forcing out soulless mediocre products one after the other. The Pokemon franchise has grown too big for its own good. Big enough that no matter how many fans have gotten sick of the same old yearly sloppy release, new fans will replace the old ones and the massive sales will keep justify their choices, while at the same time said sales speak louder than any complain uttered and ignored by the pokemon company.
Honestly, I wish they would have given ILCA the go ahead to actually make the game how they saw fit. Masuda from GameFreak still co-directed it and while he gave us some absolutely awesome games, I don’t think he has the passion for it anymore. I mean in like 2017 when talking about Pokémon moving to the switch he said something along the lines of “It is very difficult to make the game, so I hope people don’t get their expectations up too high.” When you’re the biggest gaming franchise in the world, you can’t really be falling back on excuses like that. It’s pretty disappointing to hear. It seemed like there used to be small little things put in Pokémon that definitely didn’t have to be there, but they were put in anyway. It made it feel like an actual world to explore, and I think it truly showed that the people working on them actually cared about making a quality game. Until we get entirely new people making the game without restrictions and oversight from GameFreak, I’m not really holding my breath for another great Pokémon game.
last time game freak truly tried was black and white and black and white 2. and those games sold very poorly compared to their other semi copy and paste games. so they just started to copy and paste cause it clearly made them more money then when they actually tried.
@@Spantzcatdog they also hated the sequel games. They wanted a brand new reigon and a new story. When the story of BnW was the best story we have ever gotten. And had some great ambitious choices put into the game design as a whole. They had a planned a sequel to x and y. Labeled as x2 and y2. But it was scrapped during the development of x and y. Probably due to them seeing how poorly their last sequel games were
I have no doubt the developers would like to make the games awesome. The issue is time. I really doubt they have enough time to implement everything they want to, since they have to release a game every 1-2 years. If the assholes making the decisions could just allow them to develop a Pokémon game for 5-6 years, we could have the greatest Pokémon experience ever.
I think one of the worst parts about this game is when during a battle it says "your Pokemon turned around and nodded in understanding!"… bitch no it didn't? Don't gaslight me.
This happened on my first playthrough after the first couple of gyms and I've been trying to find a way to turn it off. Carl: Damn that's crazy but I don't remember asking!
You can't even pet them anymore and already aware enough now to hate the rest of the blatent eugenenics and darwinism. Thanks gaslighting and/or brainwashing and c(r)apitalism!
I can see why that would be weird/annoying, actually. I like the idea of it, but as mentioned in the video, at least in Gen 7 they physically turned towards you to show care. Waaaay more natural.
The Giratina origin form battle is just as big of a middle finger as the “battle frontier project” in oras. They basically said “Yeah we know we could have put more platinum content in the game… But screw you this is all you get.”
@@natelecarde962 well no, they supervised the whole thing, Junichi Masuda was one of the DIRECTORS, if GF didnt want something they saw, they wouldve done something. They didnt make the game itself, but still responsible of it and obviously associated with it, for good or bad
@@natelecarde962 You know what other game wasn't developped by it's main company and was instead developped by another smaller one? Megaman 9 and it pretty much started a whole new genre of video games (the retro revival). I'm not gonna compare Megaman 9 to BDSP but using "It's not Gamefreak that made it" as an excuse for a crappy finished product is down right stupid. A bad game is still a bad game no matter who developped it. Even if IntiCreates fucked up Megaman 9, the game would still be garbage despite Capcom not having made it.
@@youtubewontletme Game Freak was the employer and head of the entire operation, So while they didn't use their own people They could've use as many existing resources as they wanted And also had the final say in what was and was not acceptable.
Then Ocarina of Time 3D sucks? Lol? It reproduced the original game in 2011 removing clunky things, polishing graphics and adding QoL. BDSP is to DP what OoT3D is to OoT, but Pokémon complainers™️ only know BOTW when making comparisons, kek.
"I cannot believe such a useful feature [like the VS Recorder] that was present on both the DS and the 3DS is yet to make a single appearance on the Switch." This should not come as a surprise to anyone paying attention. We have asked for years for so many features to come back. I'm not sure I've seen a games series so vehemently opposed to keeping good features like Pokémon. It's actually insane.
@JayLeeBeanz Yeah, but seriously, what's the point? Why is it a pokémon if it never protects me? Why can't I put it in a box to get rid of it? Why can't I make love with it? Why does it only ever give me useless trivia instead of what I actually need - emotional support? In short: Is there any explanation for why this thing needs to be alive? I mean, there has to be. Someone decided to put a Rotom into the dex. There has to be a valid and sane reason for that.
As someone who’s played for 10 years and counting, I cannot express the amount of times pokemon developers have dropped the ball when it comes to simply just… keeping good features in?? Like, I understand that generations exist for a reason and that there should be notable differentiations between them, but I don’t understand why we can’t rationally decide what mechanics or features should stay and which ones should go. Why did they have to ditch the PSS in gen 7? Why did they have to ditch mega evolution forever when they could’ve just added to the already existing library of megas we’ve got in addition to some new minor features to tie in some character or lore? I understand they need to rely on flashy new gimmicks to sell a game since they’re all somewhat the same in principle, but I just don’t know why we have to ditch systems that work and create new ones that, instead of take note on what made the previous ones good and go off of them, are clunky or underdeveloped.
Ngl, having my pokémon turn their head towards me in the 3DS era games was such a nice touch, it sucks that that system has devolved into what it is now
The amount of bugs and glitches that often resulted in me having to reset is just unacceptable in a game from the highest profit franchise on the planet. I got a refund, and replayed Platinum.
Gamefreak: Our hardcore fanbase loves these games, so don't do ANYTHING different, or they will be furious. Keep it as close to the originals as possible ILCA: Gotcha. 100% faithful Gamefreak: Oh yeah, and you have 7 months. ILCA: W-Wait, WHAT?!? But COVID has made- Gamefreak: I don't care, neither does Ishihara, just get it done. ILCA: Uh-Oh........Okay........ *Same Problems from the Original games are prevalent, completely unfixed, game is rated low because of it* Gamefreak: Well, I have no idea what you did wrong, since it's exactly what they wanted, but at least it's not our fault this time! ILCA: ...........
To be honest when gamefreak does something different we do kinda hate and complain about it. Like trials, megas, zmoves and etc. Face it pokemon is ready to die, PlA is going to fail cause it's too different and just looks bad. It's not like digimon that can bounce back, just hope when gamefreak does go out of business that digimon buys them.
Wait... These games were made in 7 MONTHS?! Fan games can take longer than that to develop! No wonder they were so glitchy when they were first released.
Nah they just copied SwSh then brought back Pokémon that wasn’t there. You can tell because of the Pokémon that were available for SwSh had butchered movesets and the returning ones had same moves from UsUm including the moves that weren’t in SwSh that still isn’t in BdSp like signal beam.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Brilliant and Shining isn’t a good title for these games more like Broken Diamond and Unpolished Pearl if anything
The most frustrating thing? Rowan is a professor that studies Pokemon evolution, so why wouldn't they bring back Mega Evolution and expand on it through Dialga and Palkia and Arceus? ORAS expanded on it, so why not here? Other than being lazy to make money.
Remember how getting the Regis in gen 3 basically felt like exploring the entire Hoenn region to find treasures that had been hidden away for centuries? There's no sense of reward and accomplishment anymore with legendaries and I don't understand how some people don't see that. Sure the puzzles to get the Regis were pretty obtuse and a guide was likely required for first-time players, but its _FAR_ better than just being handed two powerful legendaries just for throwing money at The Pokémon Company in the past
Yeah, legendaries and mythicals use to actually mean something but Gen 6 said fuck it and just gave them away like nothing. I spent years wanting Deoxys and when I finally got him in ORAS it didn’t feel like an accomplishment because it was programmed into the game already.
@@penetrasean They are just giving them away because of the competitive aspect of the game. The pokemon company thinks every adult playing the game are into competitive play and would love being handed these legendaries as soon as possible. SWSH were designed entirely to satisfy competitive players. Regular jrpg players hated swsh but the competitive players loved and defended it.
@@penetrasean At least ORAS kept most legendaries still secret with all the different mirage spots and the requirements to find them, but I agree, very recently in Gen 7-8 they have become way too generous.
I don't know about Sapphire and Ruby, But Emerald had a guide on decoding Braille, In the little booklet that came with the game. Which said something along the lines of: "Go out there and find these patterns And you'll get a fun reward at the end."
@@charonthetoaster4159 Also the same way I don't understand why people are normalizing video game devs releasing unfinished games instead of, oh idk, ACTUALLY FINISHING THEIR FUCKING GAME BEFORE RELEASING IT TO THE PUBLIC
That’s the nature of a patch… fixing issues that weren’t there before. What a strange thing to complain about when nothing released (phones, cars, tv’s, or games) are ever released without any issues
That being said, the game is still fundamentally flawed no matter what version you play in. A fair review would be describing the current state, then describing "And it was worse on launch".
I find it so funny that Twitter is telling people to poison and faint their Pokémon so that people stop complaining about the friendship mechanic. It's like telling people to stop complaining about their flight being cancelled and that they should just walk to another country
Wait people actually said that?!? I swear ( and this is no insult to you) the Pokemon fan base is the most childish and ignorant fandom that will do anything to defend the modern-day games which sucks now!
@Master Wobbegong: MCU hater It is rediculous when you look at the subtext of what they are saying. That players should have to make their own fun in a PRODUCT THEY PAID FOR TO HAVE FUN! One that is advertized as a GAME, not a sandbox!
Unironically the bugs and glitches were the most interesting things about these games. Like ohh boy, it’s amazing how these glitches are on the scale never seen in this franchise since red and blue (which basically obliterated any integrity . Hell the scale of some of these glitches somehow rivals the 8F glitch in red and blues which that glitch was literally a code execution glitch that allowed the player to edit their Pokémon PKhex style in game.
Ok, but see, that's really a problem though, isn't it. A game has to rely on bugs and glitches that are supposed to be fixed to enjoy it? That's not fun. Red & Blue had glitches and bugs too but they were complete games that you didn't need to break or hack and rely on the bugs or glitches to have fun.
@@animatedink2529 Go back and play Red or Blue Version today. It is only fun if you learn how to abuse the bugs/glitches. Otherwise they regularly get in the way of enjoying the game. Side note: Nintendo is charging *$10* per rom for Gen 1 & 2 Pokemon games on the 3DS. Meanwhile at the same time Atlus isn't even charging $10 for *any* SMT game on the same console right now despite all of them being better than anything Gamefreak have ever relesed and way more recently made.
The bugs and glitches are STILL my fav part of the game. Been grinding item duplication. It’s almost like having an action replay lmao just no pkhex to generate an entire Pokémon. I’m still on 1.1.2. And I’m waiting to update till something cool is released or a new glitch is uncovered for the new version.
Red and Blue are engineering marvels inside small cartridges and the devs did their damnest to put as much content in em as possible, bugs and glitches be damned, and its respectable. You can say what you will about the og Red and Blue release, but to be frank those games refused to die. The wildest and most broken of shit could happen and it wouldn't crash. The remakes however are more fragile than twice repaired glass, the new games just feel lower than the bare minimum in my opinion.
@@internetdragon7624 Very true - not only that, it was made with fairly limited resources given that no one knew how incredibly big it would get worldwide
If they made it in the visual style of XD (but updated), and had both b/w 1 and b/w 2 in the same game (something like a new game+), and all of the good features they have now, but fixed (follow/ride mons but actually keeping up with you and scaled properly, Pokemon Amie equivalent, party exp but optional, etc), I would totally get it. But we all know there is now way in hell any of that is going to happen.
I love Gen 5, but realistically they could .Make Unova Elite Four less weak to Dark Types lmao. .Lower some final evolution levels like Hydreigon or Volcrona .Make the main story battles less weak to SD 3 Attacks Excadrill lol .Add Pokemon from other Gens to the orginal B/W. I never cared that they were gone, as I only use Pokemon from the region I am playing in, but others clearly did .Skip Cutscenes/Fast Forward Text Button. Again, I won't do this but it is good idea none the less I dont think Unova has many flaws at all, unless one personally dislike the region's designs which is subjective, but a remake could realistically make these changes for a better experience imo
I feel like Miitopia implements the “happiness” mechanic so much better; characters in your party form bonds with each other and gain powerful abilities like teaming up in a single turn, shielding damage for someone, sharing food, or briefly becoming more powerful when their friend is KO’d out of revenge, and these buffs become can stack with multiple bonds. These things sound game breaking at first, but the difference between Miitopia’s system and Pokemon’s is that the bonds in Miitopia are built into the core game experience and the battle difficulty is balanced around these buffs. As a result, choosing which bonds to strengthen is not only a fun thing to do for the whole fantasy of the game (“an RPG starring you and your friends”) but also a strategic element of play based on the roles everyone has, especially in the late- and post-game. If battles in Pokemon were harder, stuff like increased crit rate, free focus stashes, and dodging 100% accuracy moves would feel less like cheating and more like a fair and strategic powerup.
Happiness/affinity rewards are definitely at their best when they are built into game mechanics. Xenoblade 1 has an understated but still present reward system for your party members having higher affinity; in chain attacks where all three party members attack together, you get higher chances of getting extra attacks if your characters like each other more. Fire emblem three houses also has an affinity reward system, where characters with high support levels give each other extra accuracy and sometimes damage when attacking near each other. While it’s not a hard game, this mechanic definitely comes in handy and is almost necessary to land some attacks on the hardest difficulty. This kind of comes back to the balance of the game, and the fact that all of these mechanics are optional. In xenoblade party members gain affinity just through playing the game, but to max it out between everyone you need to go out of your way (plus the in-battle bonuses aren’t busted unless you’re at max). In fire emblem you can simply choose not to watch support conversations. The fact that the difficulty in bdsp isn’t built around the friendship mechanic, and as pointed out in the video it’s not a skippable mechanic, just makes it another thing that strips challenge and strategy from the game.
It's also balanced by the fact there's quite a few bad things that can happen too. Enemies have several different ways of removing party members from the battle temporarily or rendering them next to useless, (Blowing them away, eating them, stealing their weapon, etc.) Every personality has at least one unhelpful ability attached to it and even the friendship could cause a healer to cover for an ally and get themselves killed which you really don't want.
@@FedoraKirb Tanks are a part of the game I do think is kind of poorly balanced. They're a loose cannon which I assume is the point but there's far too many drawbacks and not enough benefits. Most of the time you're better off without them. Playing as the tank can remedy this a bit but there are still better class choices for yourself that don't limit you so much.
I’ve been replaying HGSS. That was a masterclass of a remake. Took the best of DPPt, the best of crystal, and incorporates them into an lightly improved GS storyline. I was already bummed that ORAS didn’t just remake emerald, but at least they still made a great game with the best of the current hardware. This remake is less than half assed and is really inexcusable. Shame it sold so well. Blind devotion keep giving gamefreak the excuse to half ass.
In my opinion the 2 best games to date in the pokemon franchise are HGSS and Black/White 2, and ive started playing on red/blue. HGSS simply has everything a pokemon game should have and has the highest replayability even without considering online while black/white 2 has by far the best single player content and story. What i still have wanted is a Stadium 3 or a remake of stadium 1/2 made by a third party company as i dont trust gamefreak to actually make a good pokemon game anymore(Not ilca tho for the love of god), its such a shame that stadium games that were made over 20 years ago have so much better animations than any of the "new age" 3d pokemon games, when i played stadium when i was a kid i was always amazed at the 3d pokemon and thinking "man in the future the mainline games are all going to be like this it will be amazing", if only i knew how wrong i was lmao.
@@ronalddonais4164 hgss are great games, but because the games themselves have a bad plot, poor pacing, and honestly a bad post-game. I can't agree with you saying they are the best. Hgss are good because it's a remaster of a game that had a lot of improvements on the terrible gen 1, but that's all it has really. (And anyways, the games themselves were rushed out to hell and back, see the fact the cyndaquil and charmander lines have the same base stats across the whole evolutionary lin3)
@@ronalddonais4164 I are up on yellow, and I definitely agree. I've been waiting for the main line home consul jump since stadium and can't fathom why it's been so hard to for game freak to push themselves. I do have high hoped for Arceus though. fingers crossed.
@@GabrielHdzLP Eh. I know the fans couldn't have predicted the sheer amount of issues, but the signs of an subpar remake were plentiful. I loved gen IV, but I could tell right away that I was better off just replaying Platinum. No fault to those who never played DPPt, of course. I know the original aren't accessible.
I broke the cycle with the disappointed of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. They just reused Sun and Moon’s engine and it lacked any nostalgia to the originals.
@@TrueRetroflection maxie was at least thinking about humanity. archie is just a complete dumbass. (not to mention expanding the sea means more toxapex which is of course a bad thing because the evil stall must stay contained)
Honestly, Bidoof has some pretty strong abilities on its own. One ignores the opponents stat buffs, one doubles the stat changes it receives and it’s hidden ability buffs a random stat while nerfing another one.
Scarily similar situation given that both are below-average products that make ungodly amounts of money due to childhood memories, among other superficial reasons
Regarding the affection mechanic, I was thinking it could be an interesting use of it if they were to boost your Pokemon's IVs rather than unlocking cheats. The series was always about bonding with your Pokemon so it always seemed a bit jarring when the best way to get the strongest Pokemon was to selectively breed ones with the highest stats, so encouraging you to bond with your team by making them the strongest versions of themselves would be a cool way to do it IMO Not saying to remove IV breeding entirely, just as an alternative way to get those max stats.
When I was younger, I hoped we'd see Black 3 and White 3 when we get to Unova remakes. Now, I feel the more realistic game for GameFreak to make is Pokemon Black and White HD Edition...
If they did a octopath traveler HD remaster style for black & white that would be cool! But considering the quality of the modern games I'm not optimistic about them remaking gen 5🙃
If they want to do "retro" remakes, I'd love them to take the Final Fantasy Pixel Remake approach--the Pokemon and trainers all keep the 2D artstyle of the DS games, add some flashy battle effects, orchestrate the music. I think people would be really receptive to that.
"One of the reasons for sticking with 2D Pokemon sprites is, with the 2D, it really depends on who draws it. There's a lot of personality that's drawn from 2D sprites, whereas with 3D, it's the same model used for everything, so the personality doesn't really come out. One of the reasons we've stuck with 2D is to get a more individual feel with it." Masuda I hope I got the quote right lol
You did good. I didn't buy it either. I can't give Nintendo my money Until they actually put an improved Pokemon game. And they need to get rid of the Experience Share to be on all the time.
I find it quite crazy that Battle Revolution, a Wii game from gen 4 that is *thirteen years old* , visually obliterates this 2021 Switch "remake". Polygon count aside, the combat presentation is parsecs ahead of BDSP. If you were to tell us when we were young and playing both DP and Battle Revolution, that Pokemon games over a decade in the future still wouldn't even come close to what we can already see and play on our home tv, there's no way we would've believed it.
right!? its so incredibly sad with mods BDSP is approaching colosseum level of quality. the animations leave a lot to be desired but the overall presentation is WAY better than without mods
Been saying this for years. The last time I enjoyed a Pokémon battle was during the GameCube Wii days. Colosseum, XD, BR. All visually impactful. It’s insane how we downgraded and people still accept this trash GF puts out
@@SushiBurritoPapi what made those games so great was that they weren't made by GF but Genius Seniority and they had plans on make XD pretty dark like the mc from Colosseum be the main antagonist but GF was against it
Yes. Faithful to me is even less of an argument when you consider this: When you played those games, Diamond and Pearl, it was not just to play another Pokemon game but you were playing the most up to date game in the series with the newest features etc. So when you think of a Pokemon remake, you don't just want the same game but in 3D (especially if it's ugly 3D) but you want it to make the region the newest and best version of a Pokemon game and have the most recent advancement just like it used to. These remakes are useless. I would never play this game over the originals. Playing it would just make me sad at sight of this bothched remake and witnessing how they failed us. We were expecting this for so long, and rightfully so since they put out remakes regularly and they must have known how excited we were about the Sinnoh remakes seeing as we are so vocal, with concepts and wishes being plastered all over the internet. It is just a slap in the face.
Absolutely agreed! Hell this is kinda a hot take but I rather prefer the Let's Go games over BDSP ( Which is REALLY saying something about them) because at least they added some things to make it feel different like megas, battling red, blue, and green, playing as pikachu/Eevee at one point and the walking pokemon are 10x bettering execution!
@@jdx4527 Yeah, I actually don't hate on those games. It was kind of fresh and Kanto never is missing love but that the thing, when are we ever gonna get a Sinnoh remake? In February, you'll reply, with Legends Arceus, but not really though, that's not really a remake, it's totally differnent; let's not debate that. But yeah, Let's Go was still a bit dissappointing in the grand scheme of things.
@@jdx4527 Dude I was thinking that too. Let go is also bad, but it is truly fun game to play. BDSP is uhh . . . Anyway! My little brother got both of those garbage. I'll think of playing let go and nowhere near touch a free BDSP.
I haven’t played Let’s go but damn it looks very polished. Kanto in 3D was a dream of mine since ORAS. The Go catching system stopped me from buying it tho.
It was already a red flag when they advertised it as a "Faithful remake". I don't want a faithful remake of D/P. Those games had massive problems that should be fixed, like the lack of fire pokemon for most of the game, the low amount of pokemon to catch in the first half of the game, and consumable TM just to name a few. Those changes wouldn't make it faithful enough apparently, but forced exp share is okay I guess. The only problem they ended up fixing was HMs.
An even better solution: Add a hard mode im which the two are disabled (and battle mode to set). Black/White (2) had that option too. That way you can satisfy both casuals and those who want a challenge instead of a button masher
@@solidzack I would be SO happy with that. tho even better - Hard mode should simply let u use Exp Share BUT would make sure you can not get overlevelled like shit, either by means of a much better Level curve and/or by Exp LIMITS until you beat certain gyms (so for instance if Crasher Wake's highest mon is Lv30 your mons cannot surpass Lv30 or max Lv35 until you beat him)
I don’t have these games but the friendship haxx makes me laugh so much. “Poison heal Gliscor shook off its poison so you wouldn’t worry!” Toughing out a hit cancelling out a destiny bond takedown. I think I would scream if I actually had to play
I am 100% biased towards Gen 2, but Gen 5 was always the closest thing to Gen 2 for me. I love generation 5 and played the absolute shit out of Black back in the day. Unova holds a special place in my heart along with Johto, and that is why I NEVER want to see Gen 5 remakes. With Pokemon in its current state, please, no...
The moment they made a point of the fact that BDSP were going to be "faithful recreations" of the original games, I freakin' called it that they were going be half-baked cash grabs I'm legitimately terrified to see how they'll handle the inevitable BW remakes. I just hope Legends Arceus doesn't turn out like this cause if it turns out as another mediocre game then I think the writing's on the wall for this franchise.
I think that the writing's on the wall for the franchise right now. It doesn't bode well that the best games put out by the franchise since 2016 were Let's Go.
Game Freak's current design philosophy is so detached from Gen 5 Game Freak's that there is little to no way a remake of Black/White and their sequels would ever work. Basically they reached their peak in terms of design and writing with Gen 5 and seeing their history of decisions made with the 3D titles it's safe to assume they're going way downhill from there. Above all this I hope they don't even touch Gen 5 at all.
Honestly this is why I cringed any time I saw someone daydreaming about a Sinnoh remake the past few years because best case scenario it was going to be ORAS with modern mechanics, and ORAS was pretty tedious. I just didn't expect it to be THAT bad.
All I'll say is if you want a Gen 4 game with difficulty, is actually fun, looks good, has few glitches, and even adds fairy types... Just get Renegade Platinum.

It really feels like GF was breathing down ILCA’s necks here, preventing any creative input on their side. If I remember correctly, the leaked concept art showed off lots of platinum content, so my best guess about why they fell on the rest of it is because GF didn’t want it to overshadow Legends Arceus Plus I’m gonna cut them some slack for the animations, they almost definitely had no input on that matter Edit: also wish some important npcs had affection on their pokemon, it’d balance it out while keeping the “power of friendship” stuff
everyone seems to defend ILCA but tbh I think ILCA are also just very inexperienced studio who didn't have any strong vision going into this project at all. we're REALLY not talking Bandai Namco here, ILCA is a WAY less experienced studio so I have zero idea why ppl seem to defend them without any evidence.
@@charliez077 Well honestly that's probably another reason to defend ILCA. They're newer, and are probably happy to even be able to replicate the experience of a pokemon game in general. After all, imitation is a decent way of learning for amateurs. Who I'd blame is GF who gave the project to inexperienced devs, dooming it to be a limited experience. It's the equivalent of expecting a level 5 Psyduck to deal with a level 14 Cranidos because "type advantage".
What really bothers me about BDSP is that they literally didn't improve anywhere, I've expected it to be similar to SWSH gameplay. Not only that, People have to realise that this carbon copy of a 15 year old DS game is freaking 60$ PER GAME! If another game company would do that, they would be cancelled as hard as EA, Bethesa, etc by the gaming community. But because the brand Pokémon is slapped on it, some fans refuse to remove their nostalgia glasses and defend these games with every inch of their sweat, coming up with excuses (or copium) defending these cash grabs of lazy games they wasted their money on. It's the first time in my entirely Pokemon journey that I've skipped a Pokemon game.
Worse is that, just like Sw/Sh, they sold incredibly well, despite the controversy, which just fucking sucks. Neo The World Ends With you deserved all those sales instead.
I barely finished Gen 7 last year and fucking hated it so much lol. I will NEVER do a replay of that game again. I haven’t even touched SWSH but I’ll get it eventually to complete my National Dex. Definitely skipping over these.
I just can't get over how bad the art direction looks. The DS titles looked chibi because they had to be. The 3D chibi used in BDSP is just awful, like everything's made of plastic. But hey, Nintendo's never winning my loyalty back as long as home exists and my 3ds games and earlier will one day be permanently cut off from the future generations so.
Don't make Nintendo the guilty one here, they made some mistakes (especially regarding their online service) but they aren't the ones who take care of most of the pokemon franchise, gamefreak makes some games (occasionally some other developers make them, like with BDSP) and the pokemon company take care of everything else, including creating the deadlines for the games, so they are probably the ones that made the game have a holiday release date, and also made it be in the chibi style, because apparently the developers wanted to make it like sword and shield.
@@bur091 You're right i shouldn't specifically blame nintendo in my post - truth be told, I blame EVERYONE. I blame Nintendo for not keeping Game Freak in line. If I was given a free Mew or something like that when I was a kid playing my first Pokémon games, the experience would not have been as deep or stuck with me the way it did. It was the feeling of overcoming actual challenging situations with the Pokémon I had raised that made it special. As a kid, you don’t realize how important that is until after it happens. if a kid is given an OP game-breaking tool, they’re gonna use it. Would Pokémon have been such a lasting experience to all of us, and stayed in our hearts, if we had less of an adventure and more of an easy game-sweep? I can only hope this BS really WILL be detrimental to how much new generations of kids even like Pokémon, causing them to not KEEP liking it as they grow up the way we did… and then in turn causing drop in sales. That’s the only way I can see Pokémon being forced to change.
This is kinda how I feel about it too and also emphasizes the problem that these "legendary" pokemon end up not feeling very rare or special at all. For how much people insist that we can't criticize these games because they're made for kids, they sure don't seem to appreciate how important details and world building like that are for kids and making these legendary pokemon actually feel rare is part of why we have fond memories of them in the first place. Like I feel like a lot more kids these days are gonna just "grow out of it" because there's no real emotional connection with what makes the series special anymore.
To get mew or jirachi you must have played SWSH and Let's Go, meaning, you know what a Mew and a Jirachi is. You get them at level 5 so they are not broken yet, but need to be trained. And they're not even that broken. Also, as a kid you just wanted the strongest pokemon, you were not thinking: "I sure hope the league is challenging"
When i was kid i exploited a level 100 charizard given to me and barely raised my team. I pulled theough the game but when i didnt have access to that lv 100 char anymore i actually balanced my team out and learned you cant rely on one thing all the time. Switching out mons was the biggest lesson to me as a kid and it was a lesson i valued, which is why the forced EXP all pisses me off so much because it eliminates the lesson for future generations and weakens the experience.
I was given a free Jirachi from Colosseum bonus disc, and I still loved Ruby as a kid. It even comes at level 5 iirc, so you can use it in early game. It's really not a big deal.
My friend bought this game for me knowing I loved gen 4 so I gave it a shot. After gym 3 I was so bored out of my mind with the mind numbingness I returned it. Drove to my parents... Dug out a shoebox. Found platinum and my dsi. Beat that shit in a week. Wtf happened to my favorite gen.
I need to get into those series at some point. I cant seem to happen the right time tho. Dont like to leave one stone unturned if you catch my drift. Given, I've heard those titles are very good. Narratively and gameplay wise.
I wish they had added Pokémon Amie as the way to increase affection and kept friendship the number of steps taken. I miss being able to pet my babies 😭
Yea the only good part about friendship, but look at SwSh they changed it for some shit soup cooking, we're never getting those back. Fun fact i always thought Buzzwole was weird, even when i was using him, but when i was raising his friendship i felt like feeding a big animal(like feeding a tiger or a elephant by hands) and since that moment I think he's cute and I love his design
@@Semnome-gv5yg I was so disappointed by camping in Sw/Sh. Pokémon Amie vastly outclasses camping. Buzzwole is a weird design but I love it! I love Xurkitree :3

Im sorry but I read DK as donkey kong and was very confused an was wondering somehow donkey kong has stated his opinion the games somewhere online and it was a big deal since nobody expected donkey kong to give a critque of the game.
They could add that, but apparently Masuda and (more like specifically) Ohmori said when asked about it by a fan they said "If we implemented that feature, no one would be able to beat the game then!" Like... W H A T ? If having the OPTION to PICK a certain difficulty was too much for players, then why have the option to pick anything if options for difficulties are too hard?
The New EXP Share would be fine if all the battles are more than just "Use Type Advantages" like Seriously people who prefer the old Exp Share are crazy
There are 2 approaches for remakes as far as I'm concerned. HGSS chose to master the gen 2 games and add some new content, but mainly just made the original content near perfect and including newer mons and the islands and expanded postgame. ORAS, despite not including some key Emerald content is the other approach. They at least updated the story and included a LOT of new content including the primal legendaries and a whole bunch of new megas and ALSO including a bunch of newer mons. BDSP did NEITHER of these methods and it's painfully obvious that Gamefreak put in the bare minimum effort. It didn't master the old content while including some key new stuff nor did it try to make a large deviation from the originals to try something new. It's literally just a 3D port of diamond/pearl. I refuse to buy new Pokemon games, despite being a fan since gen 1 because Gamefreak has gotten so lazy that they think they don't need to try at all and people will still buy their games. Even Sw/Sh was unacceptable, but BD/SP is really the last straw. I'll either emulate their games or just stop playing their games altogether til I see improvement.
My thoughts exactly, Sw/Sh was decent and i have had a lot of fun in dynamax adventures, but after ultra sun and moon it feels like everything is going down hill.
Can’t wait for the next remakes, Total Black and Absolute White. Where they answer our criticisms of not have changed BDSP story by trying to smash Black and Whites story with Black 2 and White 2, ruining both. Because why have quality when you can make all the money while pretending to care?
Ironically, it feels like that's exactly what they tried to do with the black and white anime (main series not short series like generations/legends etc) and it turned out awful, so that's not a farfetched scenario.
I had someone get upset with me because I said Pokémon boot-lickers were actively ruining the series and allowing TPC to make bad games This idiot took it as me saying anyone who simply liked the game was a boot-licker TPC boot-lickers are just hilarious
man, the pokemon charm has finally worn off for me. Every single prior pokemon game, no matter how much i didnt enjoy it, i would always finish to the end. This is the only time i didn’t finish a pokemon game. I couldnt even bring myself to finish the second gym. This game is unbelievably boring, like it takes effort to create such a boring, mindless product. I had it with this series.
I sailed the high seas and was still left like I lost something playing through this game. I couldn't bear playing this game by the 6th gym, so I just replayed Platinum.
I didn't get BDSP because of the reasons listed here. We didn't need the game to leak or anything to know this is exactly how the game would turn out after the promotional materials dropped.
i recently downlo---- ehem--- 'bought' the original pokemon platinum, played casually and i swear.... the game were legit harder. I struggled at the gyms and some routes in the first half of the game (later it balanced even and sometimes just easy) but that first half challenge made it so rewarding, that feel is completely lost in the new games.
@@cakeisyummy5755 good thing that we have a virtual library with a great collection of old games from old consoles for the switch right? oh wait. well, good thing that Nintendo is very chill with roms wait a minute.
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were so good both for casual players and competitive players. Not to mention Heart Gold and Soul Silver which were BETTER than the original and honestly the best games in the whole series by my standards. It just sucks that the love put into those remakes wasn't put into this one. I'd been wanting a revisitation of these for a while now and I feel I'm constantly disappointed the last few years.
Funny enough, Cynthia would've destroyed me if not for that friendship bs. It's literally what saved me. My team were in the 60s in levels, highest being my Garchomp at 64. This elite 4 is very challenging. Its just that the exp share makes the rest of the game, save for Maylene(her Lucario is broken AF) easy.
@@legoferrari14 The Affection should be optional and if used it shouldn’t happen as often. Every turn there should be a 5% at best chance for something to happen. Remove the “I lived so you wouldn’t be sad” option or for balancing reasons make it a “once per battle” function where it affects only one Pokémon in your party rather then a “once per Pokémon per battle” function.
I stated this in a different comment, but I'll state it here. The mechanics in the game that made previous games easier should be welcome in this game just because they made an already difficult game, a lot harder through things like evs in ai trainers, held items in the elite 4(don't even get me started on Cynthia), and preferred stat buffing natures on ai trainers, but that's just my opinion.

What I would ideally want, is a game where evs and natures in main game won't make or break almost any battles. Imo, the place where you should be technical in planning evs should be in the battle factory or in competitive play, not main game.
Yeah,I bought the game for the same reason,it’s so sad when a game best mechanic aren’t even intended and they even had the guts to fix most of these glitches in the name of “a better experience” as they said when they patched them, like:are you freaking seriousl

IKR? They really didn't need to do THAT much to make these games actually decent, but i guess we're expecting too much effort from the highest grossing media franchise in history
The funniest thing about this game to me is that it was made in the unity engine. The most successful media franchise in the world couldn’t be bothered to use a more powerful engine or make its own.
@@BlueAizu_ the problem is that Pokémon is the highest grossing valuable IP in the world and they can do whatever they want but they always cut corners and use strict budgets and deadlines.
I have a really bad feeling that Legends Arceus is also going to release a lot more unfinished. Especially that we haven't even seen much and the game is one month from launch.
The abusing pokemon bit reminded me of a side thing you could do in Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. There were disks that you could find that contained mini challenges once you progressed to a point where you could run the disks (my favorite was the four-way metronome battle). One of the challenges was to defeat the opposing party within a set number of turns. The preset pokemon were less than stellar matchups, but the third in the party could defeat both opponents. The only thing was you didn't get enough time. I had to look it up and you had to intentionally make one of your pokemon faint by making one attack the other. That's when the game made me take a step back and step out of the immersion. Because at that point the pokemon weren't your friends. They weren't your partners. They were a means to an end. And even if in-game it's a simulation, it was still troubling to me.. Also technically bitter herbs wouldn't be poison based on the fact that it does heal the pokemon, but it would be like forcing someone to get sick to give them disgusting medication (Buckley's comes to mind), or getting injured just to pour peroxide on the wound. If someone did that to you, you would end up despising them too.
I remember that disk. You have to make your Salamence faint by using your Dusclops's ice beam on it, so you can call Houndoom. You can't just switch because your opponents were Wynaut and Wobbuffet with the Shadow Tag ability. And Houndoom was the only one in your team that could deal with them. When I found out the solution to that disk I was like... Wtf? Why do I have to make my own Pokémon faint?? I mean it was a nice puzzle but it made me feel so bad.
I was going to get Brilliant Diamond for Christmas but on a gut feeling, I decided to go for Monster Hunter Stories 2. After seeing this video and the reaction online, I dodged a bullet.
I never had any intention of buying BDSP, but after playing MHS2 I don't think I can ever go back to Pokemon again. Monster Hunter is just doing the whole "monster collecting JRPG" thing better
This game sucks. A lot of people say they love the music, and good for them, but I can't stand orchestralized retro music because I feel it takes all the bite and clarity out of the original's notes. Imo remastered video game music just ends up sounding muddled and like they're trying to overplay the piece without adding anything interesting. Another thing people will say is "well at least it's faster than dp" which is not the plus people think it is. Other rpgs take turns in a quarter of the time Pokemon turns take, and its because of well designed, functional (and skippable/fast forward-able mid battle!!!) animations that are a joy to watch. Pokemon gets by with lackluster visual effects, pausing before and after animations that you can't speed up, and having the text box jump in to let you know what else happened when it can be better communicated visually, (ex, status indicators, etc. Anything that won't break the flow of the battle.) Also I don't wanna hear "just turn battle animations off" because if it wasn't so damn slow or boring anyway I would. Fast forward would be better, or just having quicker animations for most moves outside of the showy/powerful stuff. Literally I've only seen gameplay of people shiny hunting because that's the only thing you can get out of this game. It's just boring and poorly designed, and yellow shinx are the only thing that makes people feel they didn't waste their money. Oh, and nitpick but can we talk about how every Pokemon has a sleeping/waking animation and never uses it in battle? Peak dumbassery.
God I wish the game wouldn’t tell me my Pokémon is poisoned or hurt by desert sandstorm all the time, and so on… once per battle is enough… showing me is enough… the purple poison appears and the Hp depletes, I CAN SEE WHATS HAPPENEING gah!!
I'd like to say I enjoy "revitalized" retro soundtracks a lot. For example, Mario Kart 7 just has very clean versions of the retro course music, but it's the original instrumentation. Mario Kart 8 does have good remixes in the bunch, but it's focused far too much on the saxophone and I am saddened they never once added in an option to play the tracks in their original instrumentation. I rarely have people agreeing with me that this is a necessary option for the game. I would play it a lot more if it had this option.
I was looking forward to hearing your thoughts for a while! I’m glad lots of people’s issues with this game resonate with mine, very disappointed with how it turned out.
and it makes it really UNFAIR for challanges. for nuzlockes and stuff the player gets a freaking boost! its luck not skill! if you're gonna die in nuzlockes you have to admit it but the pokemon just endures the attack and it doesnt die. its an advantage but very unfair.

I agree with mostly everything. I saw a video regarding the development of this game and it showed that the concept art from ILCA shows a BDSP that looks a lot like legends arceus. Im not sure how true it is, but it seems like ILCA wanted to make a full blown, full scale game but was forced to downgrade the game into a DP port.
I stopped playing Pokémon after the 7th Generation. All of the 8th Generation is just a disappointment. I didn't even care about the remakes of my favorite Generation. Pokémon gets worse from game to game, but nothing will change if people gonna buy it nonetheless.
@@richard35791 while they did give us a middle finger regarding the battle frontier, they at least _gave us good reasons to play it over the original_ in ORAS
I stopped after carefully examining the Gen 7 games before buying. They were simply not as good as X & Y and ORAS so i knew i had to save my money and retire from Pokemon.
Setting "feed bitter medicine" equal with "poisoning" was a bit dramatic. Otherwise I agree with everything. Worst thing was the mew and yirachi, I didn't like them handing out legendary/mythical pokemon for free in the first place, but right after the first gym? What's even special about them anymore like this!? They're just fancy togepi's without evolution!
It is dramatic, but the point is, this idea that players should be going out of their way to do the balancing instead of the game devs is such a braindead take that it can easily completely ruin a game's central conceit like this.
I agree with exaggerating on the bitter medicine. If it was poisonous, would have been in the game at all since Gen 2?! With that said, the bitter medicine has ALWAYS been taboo for the players since Pokemon straight up don't like it and it actively lowers friendship, a mechanic that matters for some Pokemon and something completely harmless to the experience, unlike Affection that's utterly broken and does not care about the game's balance at ALL.
Not even free since you need save data from the games, so if you have no one that plays pokemon, youre gonna be paying 60$ at worst and 30 at best for pokemon(this problem also exists in legends arceus)
The sole existence of Platinum really makes these remakes redudant as not only they fixed most of the issues that plagued Diamon and Pearl, but also were able to capitalize about why Sinnoh is the best region in the series, in terms of the design of the Routes, the estructure and the Metroidvania like design. All these quality of features at just $40 Meanwhile, BD/SP not only has most of the problems the original games had (such as Gym Leaders and even Elite Four) had their OG pathetic team (Volkner with Octillery and Ambipom... ugh...) but also it creates new problems such as forced exp share (which gets even more evident when you realise that the trainer's Pokemon level aren't properly scaled), softlock in the Snowpoint Gym, Underground bases and Contest getting dumbed down, etc. The worst part of all this? The games cost $60, the exact same price of games with actual care such as Shin Megami Tensen V and Monster Hunter Stories 2. I still have some hope for Legends Arceus, but since it comes just two months after the remakes, I am fearing the worst for it.
Pokemon Platinum sadly no longer costs $40 after the Pokemon Trading Card explosion seeped into the price of the games, as well as the pandemic and nostalgia for the DS era. It seems the only option is piracy if you don't want to go bankrupt. But perhaps I'm exaggerating.
@@overexplainedgameguides4357 Holy shit! You are right. It's mindboogling to see how some games that managed to sell millions of copies can somehow skyrocket in price. And I used to complain about the prices of some Gamecube games, such as Chibi Robo and Cubivore.

HGSS is called Heart*gold* and Soul*silver* because you might as well be buying actual gold and silver for the price they're at right now. Do you honestly think a delay would have "fixed" this game? I bought this game to see if there's any curveballs and hidden new content, without looking at the internet. Boi, I was wrong! I didn't finish the game so I sold it. I even said "this is the worst remake" to the gamestop cashier. If Arceus game fails, pokemon is dead to me.
If anyone is interested in playing this, then as a seasoned Pokemon fan for nearly 20 years, literally the only thing I can recommend is just playing Pokemon Platinum or one of the incredible fan hacks of it that improve the game even more (Pokemon Following Platinum or Renegade Platinum are my recommendations) or just pirate the game and emulate it with mods. BDSP are not even the definitive ways to experience gen 4 and if you do want to play them, it is only worth playing them with mods using an emulator or a hacked Switch. I wholeheartedly recommend not paying 80/60$ for this lazy and uninspired insult to the beloved originals.
When the game released I was with my friend and he managed to talk me into getting it, saying that Gen 4 was my favorite and the multiplayer content will be worth it. The fact they left out multibattles pissed me off so much. I dont play competitive much anymore so multibattles with friends was my way of finding endgame content while hanging out with them. Actually so dumb. Dont even get me started on the EXP share BS. I skipped almost every optional trainer after the 7th gym because I was getting overlevelled, and now that I beat the champion I have to find and fight them to complete my sinnoh dex to access postgame because they have mons i havent seen. Thats right, I was punished for trying to make my game experience more enjoyable. Fuck bdsp. I never thought I'd say this but holy shit sword is actually better than this.
I don't really see the problem with overleveling especially since badges is supposed to curve that. Considering jprgs like Final fantasy, isn't overleveling a good thing?

Actually since gens 1-4 are remade the only way GF could do after is literally make spin offs like Let’s go. I’m hoping after Scarlet/Violet we get Johto Let’s go bc if so it’s a new trend & then Hoenn would be next after ect.
These remakes don't give me any hope for Pokémon Legends Arceus. If anything, I think Legends Arceus will have the exact same issues as previous Pokémon titles, and that just breaks my heart. And knowing GameFreak's track record as of late and Masuda's archaic mindset at the helm of this game, I don't have a lot of faith in the series anymore...
The artstyle alone turned me off. I might be biased because I began with Gen 5's mature art and storytelling, but I couldn't gel with the chibis. Also, despite having played Platinum and loved it, I have no great love for Gen 4, so I'd have probably skipped it anyway . But the thing that made me look at it in disgust was how dumbed down it was even on the outside. I can't play a game that treats me like a bottle-fed infant
I've been playing through this game and looking for the best in it, possibly to justify that I spent $60+tax on it. Now that I've thought on it... I think I hate it.
Same. I've been trying my hardest to convince myself that I didn't waste my money, but ultimately I had to come to grips with the fact that I screwed up by buying the game
Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl some how remained faithful to all the worst aspects of the original games. It's essentially a downgrade with its only real apealing factor being an ugly Chibis art style that looks better suited for the Wii.
I feel that if BDSP hadn’t had whatever utter hell that their development had been in an attempt to get the games out before Black Friday, we might have gotten Mega’s and Primal’s. In the files of BDSP people have found data for mega stones as well as Mega Kangaskan and the Prinal Reversion abilities in game and they work without any problems. I hope that after these games ILCA is given more time to work on remakes, the concept art for the game suggest it would’ve been on the scale of Legends Arceus, and the difficulty of the gym leaders was a pleasant surprise. Hopefully they could make Colosseum and XD remakes, I would love to fight Cypher admin’s perfect Pokémon.
funny things is, we may continue to see data for mega and primal in newer games until gen 6 remakes ( i was kinda doubt if gen 6 remake would ever be a thing, but looking at how much money the past remakes produce, yeah )
@@zackrack8942 Knowing their predictable steps, expect gen 5 remakes during gen 10 and gen 6 remakes for gen 12,at least gen 6 was so bad that the remakes can’t be worse then the originals, right?
I didn't have much hope for BDSP and just thought "I'm just gonna stick to Platinum. No point in playing these "remakes" if they don't improve the originals or add new content." Like, why do they still not include the Battle Frontiers but keep the Contests? Why do they still keep forcing the permanent EXP Share on the player? And using the "it's a game for children" excuse doesn't work when there are so many games for kids that don't hold your hand the entire game (Final Fantasy is a big example as well as Dragon Quest, Legend of Zelda and many others).
:hears the words "kids" and "Final Fantasy" in one sentence: :rolls laughing from bed: Kehe, well, if FF is meant for kids, then someone needs to explain to me how a good chunk of us adult XIV-players cried sentimental waterfalls in the MSQ of Shadowbringers (5.0 / 5.3) and now Endwalker (6.0).
If we go off modern ESRB standards on Sony platforms, then even a game rated M can be for kids, lol. Going off the logic of the most recent comment of T being for teens, and thus kids, I witnessed an M rated game get so bastardized that it felt like a T rated game. And thus, for children.
I'll preface this by saying the new system is definitely preferable to having to carry around an hm slave like in the old games. But an issue I have is that it kind of invalidates some of the level design. What I mean is that in many places throughout the game, there will be a fork in your path where you're given two option to proceed. Usually one area with a patch of grass and the other blocked with some kind of obstacle (tree, rock, etc.). The idea behind this is that if you made the effort to slot the right hm move on your team, you were rewarded by getting to avoid possible random encounters, so there was a tradeoff. In BDSP, you have access to all the hidden moves at all times, so unless you specifically need to catch a pokemon on a certain route, why would you ever take the path with the grass? There's no reason to just not go through the obstacle, all it costs you is a few seconds maybe, so that tradeoff you had in the original games no longer exists and the multiple paths are pointless. Another issue is that it kind of diminishes the difficulty in some respect. Again, I'm not gonna defend the implementation of HMs in the original gen 4 games, but part of the difficulty of mount coronet or victory road is that you had to find a way to slot all these hm moves into your party without crippling your team. This aspect has been completely lost in translation in the remakes. To be honest, I don't know how you would properly address this without completely overhauling the way hm moves work, or by changing the levels entirely. But, these issue are emblematic of the carelessness of the design of these games, with many changes being made without considering how they would affect the original game design or balance. The other big example of this is the EXP share destroying the level curve.
Gamefreak said that they are sorry about SV and need more development time, meaning that they now might care again. So we might get good Gen 5 remakes.

All 3 games have parts that should be included,
But platinum by far has the most of them.
I also call gen 4 as with HG/SS, i know those were gen 2, but they came out during gen 4, and they added so much. New routes, post game content and exclusive locations for a few legendaries.

Almost like it’s a remake of diamond and Pearl and not platinum, kinda makes sense it’s like that lmao
Yes it's pretty sad seeing people look for reasons to justify shipping and selling an unfinished product
The reason why SWSH sucks despite having a great DLC
Here's a good example, I live in an rv, this means I'm dependent on cellular networks for my downloads and because of this currently have limited data, surely they should be able to comprehend exactly why I may prefer a title be actually finished when I get it, sure, I can still download, but when you have 120gb of data a month, you may be inclined to think before downloading stuff.
Reminds me how Final Fantasy XV was delayed two months because the director didn't want a day 1 patch for those without internet.
Theres also storage space issues, had this issue with my 3ds had to delete games just to get updates done
I am glad this game was made in Unity, because holy moly the mods for this thing are gonna be nuts if people care enough to make them.

@@Depressed_Spider "Why can't I make love with it?" Lmao 😂

Hell the scale of some of these glitches somehow rivals the 8F glitch in red and blues which that glitch was literally a code execution glitch that allowed the player to edit their Pokémon PKhex style in game.

The two also had sequels.
Gen V fans will collectively weep once the remakes inevitably come out; if TPC keeps us with this horse-shit.
They’ll do a dexcut in those remakes when it’s just Gen 1-5 and not potentially 1-10
I love Gen 5, but realistically they could
.Make Unova Elite Four less weak to Dark Types lmao.
.Lower some final evolution levels like Hydreigon or Volcrona
.Make the main story battles less weak to SD 3 Attacks Excadrill lol
.Add Pokemon from other Gens to the orginal B/W. I never cared that they were gone, as I only use Pokemon from the region I am playing in, but others clearly did
.Skip Cutscenes/Fast Forward Text Button. Again, I won't do this but it is good idea none the less
I dont think Unova has many flaws at all, unless one personally dislike the region's designs which is subjective, but a remake could realistically make these changes for a better experience imo
Miitopia is about Me, Naruto, Bill Gates, and Knuckles on a wacky adventure. What's this "friend" thing you're talking about?
It's also balanced by the fact there's quite a few bad things that can happen too. Enemies have several different ways of removing party members from the battle temporarily or rendering them next to useless, (Blowing them away, eating them, stealing their weapon, etc.) Every personality has at least one unhelpful ability attached to it and even the friendship could cause a healer to cover for an ally and get themselves killed which you really don't want.
@@Superluigi881 ...Tanks have destroyed one too many friendships for me... thankfully they can be remedied.
@@FedoraKirb Tanks are a part of the game I do think is kind of poorly balanced. They're a loose cannon which I assume is the point but there's far too many drawbacks and not enough benefits. Most of the time you're better off without them.

If they want to do "retro" remakes, I'd love them to take the Final Fantasy Pixel Remake approach--the Pokemon and trainers all keep the 2D artstyle of the DS games, add some flashy battle effects, orchestrate the music. I think people would be really receptive to that.
3D/2D Pokémon would be great.
Similar to Octopath Traveller
Really hoping they go for this approach when black and White have their own inevitable remakes
Unfortunately, ff pixel remasters also take the low road by removing extra content which was added in later iterations of the game such as gba.
"One of the reasons for sticking with 2D Pokemon sprites is, with the 2D, it really depends on who draws it. There's a lot of personality that's drawn from 2D sprites, whereas with 3D, it's the same model used for everything, so the personality doesn't really come out. One of the reasons we've stuck with 2D is to get a more individual feel with it." Masuda

DistantKingdom & Arlo: Yeah, it's been long enough, time to release this BDSP review that rips into its mediocrity.
I just don't understand why is so hard to add a toggle for the affection and EXP-ALL on the config menu, it should be really simple.
It really doesn't seem that hard at all
An even better solution: Add a hard mode im which the two are disabled (and battle mode to set).

If I remember correctly, the leaked concept art showed off lots of platinum content, so my best guess about why they fell on the rest of it is because GF didn’t want it to overshadow Legends Arceus

" if we had less of an adventure and more of an easy game-sweep"
Kinda sounds like the kids who did the did the "use only your starter" tactic.

If I wanted to play "faithful recreations" I would just play the originals
And even then, just play Platinum, because the originals still aren’t good
There are 2 approaches for remakes as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, Stories 2 is much more enjoyable. I need to get back into it.
I never had any intention of buying BDSP, but after playing MHS2 I don't think I can ever go back to Pokemon again. Monster Hunter is just doing the whole "monster collecting JRPG" thing better
Excellent choice, stories 2 is an great game and better pokemon game than the pokemon switch titles
Lucky you. I almost cancelled my BD preorder at some point, but ultimately decided not to. In hindsight now, I wish I had
Anything that won't break the flow of the battle.)
Also I don't wanna hear "just turn battle animations off" because if it wasn't so damn slow or boring anyway I would.
God I wish the game wouldn’t tell me my Pokémon is poisoned or hurt by desert sandstorm all the time, and so on…
once per battle is enough… showing me is enough… the purple poison appears and the Hp depletes, I CAN SEE WHATS HAPPENEING gah!!
The "faster than dp" argument is stupid.
better than bad =/= good
I'd like to say I enjoy "revitalized" retro soundtracks a lot.
The new affection system causes my poison heal gliscor that I worked so hard to get to CONSTANTLY heal itself from poisoning 😤
LOL that sounds very annoying actually. Never considered that
Quick question: If you get hit with Toxic, does the intensifying poison effect get inverted, meaning you gain more HP each turn?
and it makes it really UNFAIR for challanges. for nuzlockes and stuff the player gets a freaking boost! its luck not skill! if you're gonna die in nuzlockes you have to admit it but the pokemon just endures the attack and it doesnt die. its an advantage but very unfair.
@@LloydTheZephyrian Good question, I’m assuming you’re asking if the healing exponentially increases just like the toxic health decrease?
Well while I haven’t been hit by toxic I can say that the toxic orb “badly poisons” you and the answer is no unfortunately.
Could I get a link to that video my dude? I'm very interested in seeing that concept art!
I stopped playing Pokémon after the 7th Generation. All of the 8th Generation is just a disappointment.
I didn't even care about the remakes of my favorite Generation.
Pokémon gets worse from game to game, but nothing will change if people gonna buy it nonetheless.
if we're lucky, Legends just might be decent
holding out hope for now
replaying oras give much more thrill than mostly the same bdsp
@@richard35791 while they did give us a middle finger regarding the battle frontier, they at least _gave us good reasons to play it over the original_ in ORAS
I stopped after carefully examining the Gen 7 games before buying. They were simply not as good as X & Y and ORAS so i knew i had to save my money and retire from Pokemon.
As someone who's played both Gen 6 and 7
Gen 6 < Gen 7
Setting "feed bitter medicine" equal with "poisoning" was a bit dramatic. Otherwise I agree with everything. Worst thing was the mew and yirachi, I didn't like them handing out legendary/mythical pokemon for free in the first place, but right after the first gym? What's even special about them anymore like this!? They're just fancy togepi's without evolution!
It is dramatic, but the point is, this idea that players should be going out of their way to do the balancing instead of the game devs is such a braindead take that it can easily completely ruin a game's central conceit like this.
mythical and ledgendary pokemons are not cool and majestic
they are handed out too easily
@@numbrerotime6683 I mean, you can also borrow a copy, like I did and it is truly free.
The sole existence of Platinum really makes these remakes redudant as not only they fixed most of the issues that plagued Diamon and Pearl, but also were able to capitalize about why Sinnoh is the best region in the series, in terms of the design of the Routes, the estructure and the Metroidvania like design. All these quality of features at just $40
Meanwhile, BD/SP not only has most of the problems the original games had (such as Gym Leaders and even Elite Four) had their OG pathetic team (Volkner with Octillery and Ambipom... ugh...) but also it creates new problems such as forced exp share (which gets even more evident when you realise that the trainer's Pokemon level aren't properly scaled), softlock in the Snowpoint Gym, Underground bases and Contest getting dumbed down, etc.
The worst part of all this? The games cost $60, the exact same price of games with actual care such as Shin Megami Tensen V and Monster Hunter Stories 2.
I still have some hope for Legends Arceus, but since it comes just two months after the remakes, I am fearing the worst for it.
It's funny that they named the Diamond demake "Brilliant" too. Butchered would have been a better name.
@@kazoorion7993 To be fair to games like many Gamecube titles, they did extremely poorly in terms of sales. So it makes sense to see them turn up a decade and a half later with a far higher price. It's incredibly infuriating to see some of the best selling games on the DS suddenly skyrocket in value. HGSS is called Heart*gold* and Soul*silver* because you might as well be buying actual gold and silver for the price they're at right now. At the very least, the price seems to match the quality of the games. Even if the price is enough to leave you bankrupt. The sad thing is I don't see anything changing anytime soon.
@@overexplainedgameguides4357 Even some of the best selling Gamecube games like Luigi's Mansion and Melee has skyrocket in price, which makes no sense, specially when the former has gotten a 3DS that's FAR more affordable.
It's intersting that how Pokemon is the only first party series in the DS that has skyrocketed in price, sometimes even more than other DS games that flopped such as The World Ends With You and Ghost Trick Phantom Detective.
I mean I’m here for the glitches, the original Gen 4 release had a void glitch, Gen 1 has a ton of glitches, and it’s one of the most fun parts of those games even though they’re unintentional.
I won't dispute that, but when the most enjoyable part of a game is some thing that shouldn't be there, that might be an issue.
Glitches make for amazing post game content and/or add replayability, whenever I replay Pokemon Yellow, I always play around with the Mew glitch to get pokemon I like but can't catch
"A delayed game is eventually good, a rushed game is bad forever."
- Shigeru Miyamoto.
Love that quote still to this day❤
Except if it's cyberpunk haha
@@PayWaller To be fair, Cyberpunk was stuck in development hell, which almost always means the final product will be mediocre, just like Duke Nukem Forever and Too Human.
Do you honestly think a delay would have "fixed" this game? What they would have changed in a delay is what they are patching in now (music, bug fixes, etc.) And the music is not the issue with Gamefreak's interpretation of Sinnoh.
A bad game can be a bad game regardless of dev-time. And that quote doesn't even work in an era of free patches & online games. I guess No Man'sSky, & FF14 are both terrible games because their release was weak.
@@kazoorion7993 U do realize SwSh went through development hell right? Why does everyone always think "sWSh WaS LAzY" when it goes much deeper than that
I was actively avoiding trainers so my team would stay under leveled. I was so happy when Cynthia almost beat me and garchomp was gonna take out my gastrodon with one more eq. But then he toughed it out so I wouldn’t feel sad… which made me sad. So….
Are Pokemon fans really in such need of a challenge that they get happy when they get beaten
@@Dylan-Frost Yes. Pokémon is the easiest and most boring game now.
@@Drby_ if we're already at this point then the developers should really add some difficulty settings
@@Dylan-Frost bro that’s exactly the point of this whole video. And my comment was pointing out the stupidity of the Pokemon friendship system in the game. The thing is, the developers of these games NEVER LISTEN. That’s why many are excited for legends arceus, it’ll be something new and fresh. I however am still mostly skeptical.
@@Dylan-Frost Your Pfp-
Also yes, Pokemon games are getting too easy.
I'm so incredibly happy I didn't waste my money, THANK YOU for such a thorough review.
Tell your friend to not talk you into buying stupid stuff again while your at it.
I don't really see the problem with overleveling especially since badges is supposed to curve that.
Considering jprgs like Final fantasy, isn't overleveling a good thing?
@@javaruscarstarphen4062 badges don't do anything unless your Pokémon are traded from someone else. 🤦♂️
@@javaruscarstarphen4062 Agreed…I’m trying to prepare for the league now and it’s taking me hours to get my Pokemon from mid 50s to 80 even with the exp share (and I’m using the Underground)
If you can bond with your pokemon for buffs your enemies should be able to do too.
But the player's the only one capable of emotion :(
4th Gen fans, don't be sad! If the Pokémon Company keeps its regular cycle with new generations and remakes like in the last years, you just have to wait 17 years until 2039 for the next remakes of the Sinnoh games - let's hope they don't mess it up that time! ;P
Actually since gens 1-4 are remade the only way GF could do after is literally make spin offs like Let’s go. I’m hoping after Scarlet/Violet we get Johto Let’s go bc if so it’s a new trend & then Hoenn would be next after ect.
Lol
These remakes don't give me any hope for Pokémon Legends Arceus. If anything, I think Legends Arceus will have the exact same issues as previous Pokémon titles, and that just breaks my heart. And knowing GameFreak's track record as of late and Masuda's archaic mindset at the helm of this game, I don't have a lot of faith in the series anymore...
Sigh. Sad to say but I have to agree
Glad I never bought this game
But game freak didn’t even make these remakes Ilca did
@@collinherrin4596 Masuda was still the director of it though.
@@collinherrin4596 and? Its still a FULL PRICED mainline pokemon game.
It's essentially a downgrade with its only real apealing factor being an ugly Chibis art style that looks better suited for the Wii.
hey, even the wii did better than this
I feel that if BDSP hadn’t had whatever utter hell that their development had been in an attempt to get the games out before Black Friday, we might have gotten Mega’s and Primal’s.
Hopefully they could make Colosseum and XD remakes, I would love to fight Cypher admin’s perfect Pokémon.
probably locked out to be sold later as dlc
*Arceus
What
funny things is, we may continue to see data for mega and primal in newer games until gen 6 remakes ( i was kinda doubt if gen 6 remake would ever be a thing, but looking at how much money the past remakes produce, yeah )
:hears the words "kids" and "Final Fantasy" in one sentence:
:rolls laughing from bed:
Kehe, well, if FF is meant for kids, then someone needs to explain to me how a good chunk of us adult XIV-players cried sentimental waterfalls in the MSQ of Shadowbringers (5.0 / 5.3) and now Endwalker (6.0).
@@MelodyCrystel And what does that have to do with what I said?
If we go off modern ESRB standards on Sony platforms, then even a game rated M can be for kids, lol.
Going off the logic of the most recent comment of T being for teens, and thus kids, I witnessed an M rated game get so bastardized that it felt like a T rated game. And thus, for children.
Is it unfinished? Or are they seeing how little they can put in each "game" they make and still get rich?
I liked the idea that HMs were used by pokemon from your own team and not rentals or whatever.
I can only imagine the level of betrayal you fans of the original games must be enduring...especially when Platinum exists.
So for gen 5 remakes, don't expect PWT or BW2 Unova map, we will get lucky, if at least has BW2 dex and Kyurem fusion forms.
Stop they’re gonna ruin Gen 5 😭
