patreon.com/BlueBoyPhin Thank you for watching this video, it took so much out of us to create, many long nights of talking, editing, didnt sleep hardly any for the days up until we posted. This is our magnum opus of a video, and we can do it again. we are still in japan writing the script for the next video about to set off to the next location. But we desperately want to make this happen without sponsors on the videos, so we have created a patreon, where we will be sharing behind the scenes, deleted scenes from this video, and so much extra footage of our adventure's and a lot more, I have always wanted to do a patreon but i never felt like i had something to really give back but I want this to be a new era for pokemon discoveries and we are just getting started. we have so much more information im dying to share. but I want every video with to be carried with care and I want to tell these stories through our lens and give them the human effort they deserve. If you are in the place where you can comfortably support these future videos, we would love to bring more to you. Thank you regardless for watching this. it really was made by 2 people giving it their true hard work and love.
This was probably some of the best produced Pokemon content (And even history content in general) I've seen in such a long time. Genuinely a masterpiece.
I've got that adventurous spirit too guys. You're really living the dream. Truly inspiring, and makes me want to break out the old GBC. Any spoilers you can share about the topic of your next video? I'd love to contribute and share your content in any way I can.
@@Landshark583 That’s just how having feelings for someone _works_ dude. It isn’t logical. Being a little older and looking out for her future makes things _too logical,_ but still understandable. There are ways to look at it beyond the one that says “woe is me.” Just because the girl in question isn’t doing it with YOU doesn’t mean she isn’t doing what she thinks is right for her. And i’m saying this as a dude who has lost a couple girls in his day to dudes that I thought were scum. In the end, people learn from failures and bad experiences. So let’s chat. Who hurt you, bro?
This really is what made these older games special. The game was an art piece, not a tech demo aiming to make the most money. Somebody LOVED this game and LOVED Japan and went incredibly out of their way just to share that with the world.
Also what makes gen 2 the best, is it is the first and last time we will ever get 2 full pokemon games in one. And to think they fit 2 full games on Gameboy and we barely get content in the new expansions of the newer games
@MrTimah101 it's amazing how people like you think something being tax deductible is like this super secret hack for tons of money. Spending thousands of dollars to save tens of dollar is a genius move for sure...
This is one of the best pokémon-related videos I’ve seen. And I emphasize the “pokémon-related” part, as this documentary feels more as a way of describing the futile endeavor of life trying to preserve itself, to say “I was here”, and that in itself might indirectly be the inspiration behind Unown’s existance. “I was and I felt, I want to share it with you”. Simply amazing storytelling
This is one of the greatest Pokémon videos I think I have ever seen - the real, on the ground footage, the storytelling, the flow, the music. Truly this video is a masterpiece
Life is truly stranger than fiction. This stuff is the tip of the iceberg, but amazing connections you made none the less! This is awesome… I really recommend Checking out the works of Graham Hanc0ck, Billy Cars0n, Robert Sch0ck, Giorgio Tsoukal0s etc the mystery gets more and more revealing! about our past, where we came from and what is out there and that there may have been a global advance civilisations that exited before us, in ancient history, and that’s just the beginning of what is being revealed. This is only Episode 1? Can’t wait for the next Episode…

@@slowdownexbruh it was really good chill I agree this is def one of the best Pokémon videos I’ve seen the effort here is 10-10 and loved the story telling
To be honest, Kanto & Johto are the two I love just as much as you all do...Unova is another favorite of mine, but I haven't found another region outside of the original series, that I loved a lot or remember the most.
@@ivanlol7153 HGSS added so much more to the lore tbh, there was a lot less to do at the Ruins and WAY less activity from the Kimono Girls in the originals.
"A person I met, wandering throught asuka, training to becoming a tourguide took me here. And described this markings as energy markings." So thats why Unown only ever learned the move Hidden Power.
WOAH! That's such a cool connection! It makes so much sense cuz of how intentional every decision in this game is when being connected to real life locations/ideas.
Not the only reason. You look at what these guys do in canon lore in shaping reality, and yeah… the reason they’re stronger in groups is because together they form words. Words have power. Words shape reality. That’s their hidden power.
Old man here. Gold was the last pkm game I owned. Some jerk in elementary school stole it and my parents refused to get me another pokemon game after that. To say I loved that game would be a massive understatement. This video made me cry. It gave me some closure. I still remember pokemon mania at its prime. I still remember watching the very first episode of the cartoon. All that I can vividly remember is the AMAZING opening, and the shot of ho-oh (then a total mystery) flying away. That scene stuck with me for over 20 years. And this video made that memory hit me like a truck. Thank you so much for this
Glad you found closure bro nostalgia is a beautiful and profound thing and the memories that you have had from the game and watching this i am sure makes this so much sweeter . Wish you well and catch em all
I went to Asuka because of this video, and it was absolutely incredible. Thanks for sharing this with us and inspiring me to take my friends to see Asuka and the tumuli. My girlfriend said it was the trip's highlight for her, and she's not even super into Pokemon. She said she'd be down to play Heart Gold after the trip, which I am excited to share with her.
I used to live on Awaji Island, the real life equivalent to Johto's Whirl Islands. The island divides the Seto Inland Sea from the Pacific Ocean. The inland sea has a slightly higher water level than the Pacific, which creates perpetual whirlpools where the two meet. They have short boat tours where you can see them up close. The island's most famous deities are Izanagi and Izanami. The legend goes that Izanagi, from the heavens, dipped his spear into the waters and whirled them up, and when he pulled it out, the crystallized droplets that fell became the islands of Japan. For that reason, Awaji Island is considered to be the origin island, and there is a famous shrine to Izanagi located there. It's a really cool place and worth spending a day or two there if you take a trip to Japan.
Oh man, that's so cool! I've always enjoyed legends and myths from various cultures, and was originally introduced to Izanagi and Izanami's story as a 13 year old. If I'm ever able to visit Japan in person, I'll definitely try my utmost to check Awaji Island out!
im tellin' ya - the late 90's & early aughts were something _else_ my dudes...and even then i had not a single fascination in the time period during my childhood back then. (maybe outside of spongebob) as my life's been moving forward, i find it just more & more fascinating to study based on any media from the time. artists were taking such huge leaps. i am soooooo grateful for that
Not only is this incredibly well researched and edited, this also soothed the disappointment about what felt like an unfinished game feature. It was meant to be like that! I feel like a childhood mystery is finally solved. Thank you so much for this fr.

It's funny; I always thought that the games were meant to have mystery that we couldn't solve to stimulate out imagination (not saying that still isn't true) and I knew it was based on the idea that there is so much about our own past that is still a mystery... But I didn't realize it was this connected to a real place...
I was 8 years old when I first started exploring the Ruins of Alph. I remember people being shocked when I told them (people) I could read Unown, and I remember feeling how...real this place had felt to me. Even now 20 years after the fact. Hearing this justified a large amount of feelings that had never been understood or acknowledged by others. The kids and adults around those real life ruins no doubt have lived their whole lives feeling the same thing for different reasons. That's what makes this all so special. Game Freak wanted us to know that feeling, to understand and be curious, and feel alive as you look at Unown and pursue the bigger picture of life and its meanings. You might not find an answer, but you do find something just as, if not even more profound and fulfilling trying. Thank you for this. I can't wait for Episode 2.
This is kinda why I dont care for the new games. The older pokemon games felt like a loveletter from a loving adoptive parent who painstaikingly takes the time to not only craft a beautiful world but a beautiful world crafted for YOU to be interested in and learn from. The newer ones feel like a neglectful parent who just drops you a "present" arbitrarily not even caring if its a special day for you or something you want or asked for. Saddest thing for me is I got my little slice of heaven, kids these days dont even have a clue what theyre missing out on, and in this case maybe ignorance is bliss because I wouldnt know where they can get it in this day and age.
I'm 32, and some days, when I walk outside and smell the air, I still think about that feeling I had as a kid playing pokemon at the park, and I think, "I wonder what Pokemon I will find today."
I went to Nara but not Asuka back in May. Outside the dear park are ancient tombs completely unexcavated, no tourists, nothing. Its crazy how much history we don't know.
Man this also explains why the original opposite to Ho-oh was a tiger-wolf looking thing. It was likely meant to be Byakko prior to Lugia being created for the movie. How absolutely wild. Thank you so much for sharing this!!!
Damn...This made me feel something... You went to Japan to discover Pokemon and found SO much more. I absolutely love this for you, your channel and all of the fans. Thank you for bringing something so incredible to light. Thank you for sharing your journey.
This genuinely blew my mind, especially that Gold - Sun and SIlver - Moon discovery/connection discovered. WOW. Great research and on-the-ground work about something none of us knew about.
Diamond Fuji is when the sun aligns with the peak of Mt. Fuji & Pearl fuji is when the moon aligns with fuji. Yang (White part) represents the sun, Yin (black part) represents the moon which was used in gen 5 for the legendaries. I bet if you deep dive you could probably find a connection to sun and moon too Xerneas and Yveltal, heck maybe even Zacian, Zamazenta, Koraidon and Maraidon. Groudon sets up the sun and Kyogre sets up the rain (moon is connected to water).
@@saffron97That's because they reuse the same elements for every generation, but they aren't the same. They started in gen 1, however. With the Red/Blue/Green/Yellow patterning, Mew and Mewtwo, and many other things.
From the moment I took my first step into Johto as a boy so long ago, I knew there was something special about these games. My young mind couldn't quite put my finger on it, but I just knew. All my life, Johto felt more like home than any place I've lived. I yearned to escape to it every chance I got. As I explored my desire to write stories, I explored Johto more with fanfiction. I did research into it, researched the real-world equivalent, and explored ideas. But never to this extent. Good sir, you have cleared my mind and explained why I felt so connected to this fictional realm. Thank you. I will be sure to check out your other videos.
I’ve watched hundreds of Pokemon videos from, walk throughs to speed runs, conspiracy, icebergs, unknown facts, Easter eggs etc you name it. But this was so far above and beyond anything I’ve seen. Amazing work! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I know right. Than you get hit with literal life changing facts. Like holy shit gold and silver was a love letter to Japan's positive history. As my first pokemon game being heartgold I feel spoiled with that piece of art. It is art right? Should be.
@@fear_the_smile961Same here, soul silver for me was one of those games that kept on giving. I remember never really beating it until I was around 15 or so but I always came back to that game because it was so enormous in comparison to the other games at the time. It felt like there was always more to do and more to see so I replayed it a number of times, even though my DSi had an inverted color scheme after my brother dropped it in the toilet.
check out "can I beat pokemon FireRed while blind and deaf?". You may THINK you know what the video entails, but it's not that... it's even better. It's a literal masterpiece. edit: it's not a traditional challenge run, it's a TAS that takes in ALL POSSIBLE RNG STATES (!!!) to make a button sequence that can beat pokemon no matter what happens, without ever knowing which of many "parallel universe" game states you are currently in. It accounts for all contingencies except for the dreaded (but very rare) _fast pidgy._
What I love most about this video is that it's not just a video for your channel and to talk about Pokemon lore and whatnot, but it's also such a good video to your friends. I've made videos for my friends and hearing their reactions was my favorite part. The ending of this video was so heart warming, I can tell you guys all had so much fun
This is the kind of thing that makes Pokémon so much deeper than their surface. Not just deeper, but more inspiring and meaningful. So many of my closest friendships and travel experiences have come about because of Pokémon, and to see the legends of the world inspire each generation again and again brings me to tears. Thank you for going on this journey so that we could see the past and present converge with you!
This is only thanks to Gamefreak and Japs. If it were for americans Pikachu would be a tiger with bubys. Unironically the americans at Nintendo of america asked Gamefreak to turn pikachu into a tiger with B. 00. bs

@@timr.2257? Don't spew your NPCina poison randomly when it clearly makes 0 sense. Terapagos alone is the most complex Pokémon they've ever made and Scarlet/Violet as a whole are the most complex and intricate games ever made. This video brought me chills. This is by far the best, most well written and explained video on pokemon I have ever seen. Great job, you have now secured a permanent spot in the back of my mind.
Geologist checking in here. First things first, I just want to say this was a really awesome video. Pokemon Silver is my favorite video game and it’s so cool to hear about the real world places that inspired it. Nice job! I can also help clarify a few things. (1) At 00:00:31 you meant geographically not geologically. (2) The stone markings you start showing around 00:22:25 are most definitely naturally occurring. The dark parts are mafic inclusions (also called mafic enclaves or xenoliths) set in a lighter colored granitic stone block. Basically the darker parts are pieces of older rocks into which a lighter colored and younger granitic rock intruded as a magma. The magma mixed and melted away most of the older dark rock, but the dark pieces here remained cool and relatively intact during the magma mixing. Then it all cooled together underground and was eventually cut into the blocks you see now. A lot of them are so wiggly and flown looking because they were super hot and ductile when they formed and got pushed around and smeared by the magma. It is the energy of the earth!
@@TheSeptetyeah, those rock colourations are definitely not the inspiration for unknown. The games tell you they are a language and those splodges of different rocks are nothing like the pokemons designs. The rest of the video is good but that bit was obviously not right.
This deserves so many more views! Had this on my watch later whilst visiting Japan myself. I was so excited to finally get around to it and it didn't disappoint!
I really like the color grading in the irl footage. This is also a reason why GSC/HGSS are my favorite games, it seems so grounded and something that could actually exists, but yet it's so mythological. Not that I enjoy only realism, it's that I want a real life Typhlosion :)
The fact the Unown are letters is perfect game/art design. You can easily clear one puzzle, and it releases a few. But as soon as you see it you have to ask “Where are the rest of the letters?” and know there are more puzzles you’ll have to solve, keeping you coming back again and again as you gain new improvements to progress further.
this vid is a masterpiece man the editing, your narration, the clips and scenery and images of inside the tombs you showed, the story being told and the teaching of history here were all just fantastic! you should be very proud of this video
This straght up made me cry. This is one of the best gaming related videos I've ever seen in general. It's a fantastic documentary with an amazingly heartfelt message, a lot of small, fun situations (you running while saying "these are some of the biggest spiders I've EVER seen was 100% relatable lol) and with a ton of super interesting information. Thank you. Subbed, and looking forward to anything else you put out.
This may have been one of the best Pokémon videos on TH-cam and I’m glad I stumbled onto your channel. The myth videos are amazing as well. Please do some more video essay type videos if you can
Gold and silver always had a mystical aura that no other games in the series could replicate and this video all but confirms its not just my nostalgia. Imagine being a kid in japan and playing these games when they came out, knowing all the references to history, geography, and your own personal memories. Must be an inimitable experience
For all the shortcomings of the 3DS era, I do feel that Alola got darn close, the atmosphere alone was perfect. Gen 4 also had tons of mythology though admittedly it felt more celestial than terrestrial. The fact that the remakes came out for Gen 4 is honestly a huge deal in how they parallel thematically (and the secret with Arceus and the Shinjo ruins was also PEAK). And I know Sinnoh is based on Hokkaido to some extent or another so I can’t wait to see how true-to-life it is! Also Hoenn has the best natural landscapes. They were my first and I feel like I could camp out on those routes for forever!
I would’ve never guessed they went that deep with the details with this games. I thought they just made it up this whole time. I knew certain cities and towns in the games are based on places in real life but I didn’t know they went that far into detail with it
6:05 so you mentioned the stones being 1500 years old and here mention that they are older than Japan own known history. This made me learn something. The Kojiki is considered to be the first written record of Japan's history and was completed some time before 712 AD, or 1300 years ago. Meaning that yes, those stones are in fact older than Japan's known history. They were also mentioned for the first time sometime around 100AD in Chinese written record. Didn't think I'd be googling archeology facts for a Pokemon video, but here we are.
This is one of the best videos on the entire internet. I can't believe the channel I started following years ago about obscure Pokémon facts with just a few hundred subscribers produced this. Wow, just wow.
Oooohhh, what a beautiful video! So much information in it, a deep dive both in the games and real life history. But also the cut, presentation and music is just amazing. Especially around the end I was absolutely taken aback. Great job!
This makes me appreciate the old games much more now. Newer games don't have something this special. I'm sure they try their best with the brief trips they have to the countries that they base the games off of, but the emotional journey that I've had through a small video about what was a footnote in the games (for me) probably cannot be replicated with newer games.
Knowing that Gold/Silver was initially intended as the last pokemon game since GameFreak never thought it would become the monolith pocket monster franchise as it did (+Satoro Iwata coming in clutch with his programming skills, fitting not just Johto but Kanto as well), the people behind Gold and Silver pulled out ALL THE STOPS to make one final hurrah to make the best sequel to a game they could. And this video really showcases the amount of Heart and Soul poured into those games many years back. God tier video man, good shit.
@@nousukaswhich video as I haven’t found a video about this, tbh that same channel has posted videos disproving previous theories they have promoted actually which is quite frustrating and destroys credibility to me
Legit one of the best videos I’ve ever seen. Pacing, edits, flow, music, narration, content. Man this is hard to beat. Amazing work. Also I was genuinely mind blown at the connections you found to Japanese myths and the games. Amazing that we never really knew this til over 20 years later.
I'm rewatching this and I don't think I gave enough love to the sound direction the first time I commented. It's on point. It's so good. It does so much for the feeling and atmosphere and pacing for this video. This whole video is amazing but there's not one moment my ears aren't happy
This is probably the most well-made Pokemon video I've ever seen. Every aspect of it was so well done, and it really sparked that sense of adventure that the games used to ignite in me when I was a kid.
What a beautiful video. It brought tears to my eyes... Pokemon means so much to me, as it was my escape from the abuse I had as a child. My grandma adopted me right around this game's release, and to me, it was the end of abuse. I didn't have to fear living in my own house anymore. Pokemon became my escape, and without it, I don't think I would have processed the world as I do now; curious, artistic, and always eager to try new things. I'm almost 40 now, and a lot of that stuff from my past is nothing more than a scar, but Pokemon will always be the one to help me heal. Learning about the tombs and the one-for-one on the map is so awesome. They really went above and beyond... probably because they saw Gold and Silver as the end... so they absolutely had to end it with a bang.
I feel your story! I got abused a lot in my childhood and Pokemon Gold was the only thing keeping me mentally stable until my grandparents adopted me. You are not alone with these experiences and Pokemon as escapism :)
Earlier this year I ran up Crystal with the mission to catch all of the Unown and do the homework myself to decipher all I could in regards to them. In the Unown Pokedex, there are these seemingly random sample words under the picture for each one: Give, Help, Keep, Find, Join, Chase, Engage, Increase, Direct, Bear, Want, Undo, Search, Angry, Vanish, Laugh, Nuzzle, Tell, Observe, Reassure, Zoom, XXXXX, Perform, Quicken, Yield, and Make. No idea what any of it's about but damn was it a blast being a "researcher" in-game and irl like that, I was so excited to get to each point so I could go back to the Ruins and explore them more. The mystery and wildness of life is unspeakable in so many ways, but you did a great job verbalizing it here man.
You know, thinking about those words in regard to the two warring clans of Asuka as well as the implication that the unown writing comes from the descendants of the kimono girls it makes me think that these are just indicators of human existence 1500 years ago. Words surrounding conflict, joy, work, emotions, everything that just being a human entailed (and still entails, generally). Each of those words could've told a story had we more context. Probably not a very satisfying theory, but real life analogues to things like this often aren't either.
The most phenominal pokemon video I have ever watched in my life. Amazing. You explained so many things and feelings I've had around Jotho for 25 years and gave me a sense of understanding around some of the most phenominal games I've ever played that I never thought I'd have. I got chills just looking at the ruins through the screen. I can't imagine how powerful that was in real life. Thank you.
22:24 “marked on these stones is what can only be described as unknown markings… it's almost moving... some people believe it’s naturally occurring...” Sorry, they are naturally occurring, and they were moving in magma. As a geologist I can tell you they look just like trachytic enclaves in granodiorite. You can even see some melt margins around them. Wonderful to see geology influenced these games.
When I look up picture of enclaves they don't have the "movement" described in the video, if they are only formed by two sources of magma in liquid state coming together and the pictures are of slow moving magma (since the pictures show unmoving blobs) then these stones are likely from an actual eruption.
@@onlyme0349 Enclave is a very general term that includes many types like schlieren, xenoliths, autoliths, restites, and more. I at first thought it might be an ignimbrite or fiamme, but you can clearly see the equigranular nature of the granodiorite or tonalite host rock and melt rims around the enclaves (at 22:32). Further, you can see the dark inclusions are highly foilated in the various images. However the enclave intermingling (at 22:34) is what finally convinced me. They are likely xenoliths, specifically stoped blocks of country rock schist that fell into the magma and were deformed either during emplacement or through later metamorphism.
Dude this was so cool, never Johto always had a unique atmosphere to it but had no idea it ran this deep into reality. Great video man, Pokemon lore and mythology is so interesting to learn about man
You just casually dropped my favorite pokemon doc/vidoc/essay etc that I’ve ever seen. I’m speechless - you captured the feel of the boys walking on the train tracks that would play on your tv in Red and Blue. That was beautiful. Please keep going and be proud of the amazing work you just published!
This is legitimately probably my favorite video on TH-cam now. In one video you educated me so much and also made me change my entire way that I see the Ruins of Alph from being incomplete, untapped waste of potential to the absolute magic and mystery of what they represent to the point I get chills. What an absolutely amazing journey that must have been. Thank you.
This is the best video I have seen on TH-cam probably ever. Seriously, thank you so much for making this! I always loved the Johto games, and now I know why. I always found the mythology and origins of the region were so imaginative and well-fleshed out, but I had no idea that they were based on so much real history and real landmarks. This is seriously so cool! Thank you again!
We really got hit with episode 1. I was listening to this in the background as I was prepping dinner and had to start the whole video over. This was some really nice work. Johto, along with Hoenn and Alola are my favorie regions. Nice work! :))
Incredible. You blew me away with your “The Importance of Rarity in Pokemon” videos a couple years ago and have since watched every single one of your videos. I was hooked by your storytelling and perspective on the game. It painted a picture and described the exact feelings I had playing this game as a child/teenager but didn’t realize it until you captured/articulated it so perfectly. This was another masterpiece and the moment I saw it pop up, I knew I was in for a journey and stepped away from my family to watch it uninterrupted. As a father and a husband now, I rarely have time to reminisce about my time as a child but man…you just have a way of bringing me back to those endless nights of playing Blue/Red and Gold/Silver with my older brother. Days I truly miss.
Oh crap! Is the whole "life itself is a mystery" angle the reason they always give us mysteries in every gen but never concrete answers? It used to somewhat frustrate me how nothing's ever confirmed or denied about certain pokemon and lore, but now it all kinda makes sense! This video is brilliant! Beautiful work!
It’s funny. This sort of thing is personally something I always liked about Pokemon. Being able to use my imagination about the unknown elements as a kid drove much of my life-grabbing interest, and it makes me happy that even these days the series maintains the same feel. I liked that Area Zero doesn’t really get very thoroughly explained in SV for example
This truly puts the older games into a class of their own because of the lore and mystery that involves actual locations and historical events. Traditions and archeology were incorporated into the early games....and as a child playing this it went right over my head. Smh.
Man this got me so emotional. As a kid, Gen 2 always felt like going on a walk before the sun completely set. But not for the adventure. Just for the peaceful exploration. It's like the games were nostalgic even when they came out. Beautiful video 👏👏👏
@@goekhanbag I always struggled with backlight on the GB Pocket whenever I tried. I do remember playing it at night during car rides home and having the street lamps help me out haha
This is one of my all time favourite videos on TH-cam. Pokemon Gold was the first game I played properly and started my special interest in Pokemon. Over 20 years later, I have a tattoo sleeve (with more planned), Pokemon plushies, manga and other merch all over my house and still avidly play the games every day. To find out how close the connection is to real life Japan fills my heart with joy as Japan is an absolute bucket list trip for me. I had goosebumps the whole way through this video 💙
growing up in a place that a pokemon region is based on, for me being alola, you get a completely unique experience of exploring those regions and the details and love put into the games by the creators to show respect to them. i loved being able to connect places in Alola to real places in Hawaii on an almost 1:1 map, reliving childhood adventures and mystery through the lens of little monsters who want to be my friends. I can only dream of that experience for the other pokemon regions, and hope it brings the same joy to others. truly incredible and beautiful video that resonated with me deeply, i really want to visit japan one day to tour different locations that pokemon games were inspired by. your editing and filming enhanced the experience so much and made me tear up by the end. I can't believe this is only an episode 1!
As someone from Britain... Uhh we got screwed over, I can't recognise anything at least in location. There are ideas everywhere, but the placement and reason doesn't make sense...
this video honestly touched me in a way i dont think any youtube video ever has. i started crying at multiple different points. it makes you realise how truly beautiful these games really are - how much thought, research, passion, and love went into them. the creators really didn't have to put all this gorgeous history into the games, but they did. and whether we players realised or not just how deep the history runs through it, we definitely felt it. the games just wouldnt feel so rich and full without them. thank you for shedding light on these things, and for educating us in such a striking and thought-provoking way. thank you for going out of your way to share these experiences with us. i suppose i just want to say thank you for making this video
Came for a Pokemon video, stayed for the history lesson & the philisophical meaning behind 28 Pokemon designs, and left with a reinvigorated desire to explore the world. You, my friend, have earned my sub. Looking forward to what's next from you.
Thank you so much for making this; I haven’t seen many videos on this website with this level of passion and thought put into it. Can’t wait for episode 2!
You said those games are a work of art without realizing that - you - also created a work of art by making a video about it. A beautiful insight, with pure nostalgia, made with lots of love, thank you
I love when I click a video with an interesting title and it's absolute fire. Great topic and presentation. I actually stopped what I was doing and watched, rather than listen. Def subbed and checking out more videos.
Episode one? Phenomenal. I have never seen such a wonderfully moving and impactful video about pokemon. You bring to light the effort, the dedication and the love they had when making these games. I could have never imagine Jhoto to be such a perfect recreation of the real world. I really gotta play those games again.
I honestly thought this video was beautiful and made me cry. I love Pokemon and Japan. I love the games and country ever since I was a little kid and still do now! ❤
I wonder if the developers/story makers finally feel appreciated. So much detail without ever talking about it for us to discover 20 years later.. man..
patreon.com/BlueBoyPhin Thank you for watching this video, it took so much out of us to create, many long nights of talking, editing, didnt sleep hardly any for the days up until we posted.

Thank you so much for sharing these historic facts💚💚
That’s really cool info, thank you for taking the time to comment and share that!
It’s said that dialga and palkia may be partially inspired by these deities. Id love to visit one day
Oh man, that's so cool! I've always enjoyed legends and myths from various cultures, and was originally introduced to Izanagi and Izanami's story as a 13 year old. If I'm ever able to visit Japan in person, I'll definitely try my utmost to check Awaji Island out!

This genuinely blew my mind, especially that Gold - Sun and SIlver - Moon discovery/connection discovered. WOW. Great research and on-the-ground work about something none of us knew about.
It was quite obvious to say the least.
"Golden sun & silver moon" are lyrics stated in plain english in the 1st japanese opening for Johto

@@fear_the_smile961Same here, soul silver for me was one of those games that kept on giving.
I remember never really beating it until I was around 15 or so but I always came back to that game because it was so enormous in comparison to the other games at the time.

It accounts for all contingencies except for the dreaded (but very rare) _fast pidgy._

Which makes even more sense being the 'energy of the earth' as the move hidden power looks very much like an earth/ground visual move c: Very cool!
So awesome!!! Gold was my favorite ❤
Ah, I was wondering if there was something I couldn't see or if they were talking about the splotches.

And the games super importent

That's not even a true statement.
@@braillynn which part?
@@horpuscorpus8299 Did You Know Gaming has already disproved that Gold and Silver were meant to be the last games.
They started the sequels so early only to postpone it to complete the game. They remade the entire map to be based on the Kansai region.
Love to hear this thank you so much!!
This is probably the most well-made Pokemon video I've ever seen. Every aspect of it was so well done, and it really sparked that sense of adventure that the games used to ignite in me when I was a kid.
This is one of the coolest videos that I've ever watched on this site, Pokemon-related or not. Excellent work!
This is one of the most incredible videos I’ve seen on TH-cam. Fantastic job, I can’t wait for more
What a beautiful video.
@@94marci I'm just glad I got away from it all. Others aren't so lucky. I hope they have their "Pokemon" to help them heal as well.
This is one of the best videos in the entire platform i've ever seen about Pokemon. Incredible work!
This is easily my favorite video about anything Pokemon related. You've just inspired the way I want to continue writing fantasy stories.
Earlier this year I ran up Crystal with the mission to catch all of the Unown and do the homework myself to decipher all I could in regards to them. In the Unown Pokedex, there are these seemingly random sample words under the picture for each one:
Give, Help, Keep, Find, Join, Chase, Engage, Increase, Direct, Bear, Want, Undo, Search, Angry, Vanish, Laugh, Nuzzle, Tell, Observe, Reassure, Zoom, XXXXX, Perform, Quicken, Yield, and Make.
The words describe being human, if you ask me.
If you ask me that's Buddhist beliefs. Amazing research. One of the easter eggs I've always wanted to figure out.
personally I think those phrases detail the human experience
The most phenominal pokemon video I have ever watched in my life. Amazing. You explained so many things and feelings I've had around Jotho for 25 years and gave me a sense of understanding around some of the most phenominal games I've ever played that I never thought I'd have. I got chills just looking at the ruins through the screen. I can't imagine how powerful that was in real life.
Thank you.
22:24 “marked on these stones is what can only be described as unknown markings… it's almost moving... some people believe it’s naturally occurring...”
Sorry, they are naturally occurring, and they were moving in magma. As a geologist I can tell you they look just like trachytic enclaves in granodiorite. You can even see some melt margins around them.
Wonderful to see geology influenced these games.
Yeah I wasn't convinced that there was any rhyme or reason to those markings, so I came searching the comments for an expert opinion lol
Yea there's no way anybody was convincing me those were anything but natural random marks.
Explain the giant cut monolithic structures please? There are many monuments around the world without explanation.
How is this not blowing up more, I don’t understand. I cannot wait for episode two, thank you for making this what it is!
Ok this is awesome i can't believe how deep this Rabbit hole truly went until now great video
We really got hit with episode 1. I was listening to this in the background as I was prepping dinner and had to start the whole video over. This was some really nice work. Johto, along with Hoenn and Alola are my favorie regions. Nice work! :))
This video is nutty good. Not being at a million views is a crime. I had no idea there was so much intentionality and attention to detail in Johto.
"full Song list coming soon"
Thank you so much for this! Always wonder about the song names on your videos
I think many will be looking for this one so I'll leave it here.
Area Zero Theme Song.
Btw this is the song that starts in the min. 11:30
25:54 does anyone know where this song comes from? Before the song list drops anyway
This might be one of the most impressive youtube video I've seen this year
Why did I scroll to this comment right as he said it 😶
I got emotional watching this video and started to cry. Thank you so much for all your hard work in researching this.
I often played the game while literally going on a walk …
Sooo... they ARE energy markings 😆
@@goekhanbag I always struggled with backlight on the GB Pocket whenever I tried. I do remember playing it at night during car rides home and having the street lamps help me out haha
Bro casually dropped one of the hardest Pokémon lore videos of all time. Much respect 🫡
@@Tunneltoohey. "High quality animations."
this video honestly touched me in a way i dont think any youtube video ever has. i started crying at multiple different points. it makes you realise how truly beautiful these games really are - how much thought, research, passion, and love went into them. the creators really didn't have to put all this gorgeous history into the games, but they did. and whether we players realised or not just how deep the history runs through it, we definitely felt it. the games just wouldnt feel so rich and full without them.
thank you for shedding light on these things, and for educating us in such a striking and thought-provoking way. thank you for going out of your way to share these experiences with us.
i suppose i just want to say thank you for making this video
Came for a Pokemon video, stayed for the history lesson & the philisophical meaning behind 28 Pokemon designs, and left with a reinvigorated desire to explore the world. You, my friend, have earned my sub. Looking forward to what's next from you.
Phin's voiceovers and scripts really make you feel something after watching his videos. This video felt so profound
Thank you so much for making this; I haven’t seen many videos on this website with this level of passion and thought put into it.
Can’t wait for episode 2!
You said those games are a work of art without realizing that - you - also created a work of art by making a video about it. A beautiful insight, with pure nostalgia, made with lots of love, thank you
IMO it's just more proof that the first couple of Pokemon games are just absolute perfection.
Thank you for creating the most cinematic Pokemon TH-cam video ever, this is really special.
I usually don't comment often but this is truly a masterpiece , one of the best pokemon videos I've ever seen.
The mystery dungeon music is hitting me in the feels 😭 amazing video ❤
I love when I click a video with an interesting title and it's absolute fire.
Great topic and presentation. I actually stopped what I was doing and watched, rather than listen.
Def subbed and checking out more videos.
This video was straight up beautiful. I’m genuinely holding back tears.
What a journey. Thanks for all your effort making this masterpiece. Dusting off my 3DS and going to start a new game of heart gold.
Officially one of my new favorite TH-cam videos of all time.
These have always been my favorite games and watching this has solidified that. Thank you so much for making something like this.
This is probably one of the most beautiful videos I have ever seen in my life. Thank you very much for sharing this with the world.
I wonder if the developers/story makers finally feel appreciated. So much detail without ever talking about it for us to discover 20 years later.. man..
