Fun fact about the pokewalker, when HG/SS came out, the pokewalker ended up drawing the attention of many sport science facilities because for some unknown reason, it was RIDICULOUSLY good. For a toy made to be sold as an add-on to a Pokemon game, the pokewalker ended up being the most accurate pedometer at the time when tested against several other available pedometers. Amazing.
I remember this news! I used to see it on the corners of covers of sports (and oddly enough, women's health?) magazines whenever I went to the store with my parents. I always thought it was cool that something Pokemon related (as I was a huge pokemon nerd at the time) was seeing unironic, legitimate use, and being taken pretty seriously. Even if it was for something as mundane as an accurate pedometer
That reminds me of how the original Kinect for the Xbox 360 was used for robotics and medical research as it was one of the best motion and depth tracking devices on the market and cost hundreds of dollars less than professional grade devices.
The mindset of the developers had when making HG/SS is something I wish current devs had for this and future pokemon generations. The amount of effort and content they add in a pokemon game is what makes it enjoyable and a memorable experience.
I can't even fault the devs because a lot of problems in the newer games look like they're cause by time constraints. Their budgets aren't low, and the people who cared about HGSS are still there, but all the problems in the past few Pokemon games look like they just didn't have time. Pokemon games started to sink in quality the same time we were getting a main-series game every year. Legends Arceus didn't even have time to breathe with Scarlet and Violet being announced a month later. Meanwhile the gap from XY's release to ORAS's announcement was 6 months.

You could actually fly between Johto and Kanto in GSC by flying to mount silver and walking to the right and selecting fly again because it would phase you to the route between Indigo plateau and Mt Silver granting access to Kanto locations
The Kingdom of God is at Hand John 3:16 King James Version 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
@@omother942 As I said, false swipe, a paralysis or sleep move, play at night (or switch your DS to night) and use a dusk ball for a greater catch chance than with even an Ultra Ball. Simply use fly to fly to the nearest town to the route, and try and find them. If after you don't get an encounter with them after 3 or 4 encounters, check the Pokegear's map to see if they've moved. If they have, simply fly nearby and repeat. Just make sure not to use poison, as it can KO them, and they don't regen health between encounters, and they can't lose their status effects, which makes false swipe, and sleep/paralysis extremely useful against them.
But... Johto still a three quarters a region Towns are still too small and still as empty as GSC If a new GS is real thing I hope focus more on Johto and Kanto also a small upgrade Don't make Johto can't stand on it's own
@@SchmergDergen Yea, paldea is underwhelming in this regard. it seems to me the more gamefreak tries to go open world, the less content to explore there actually is

This is a *super* in-depth overview of HGSS, probably the most studious one I've ever seen. I've never heard anyone ever talk about the block mechanic in the safari zone, never knew I'd still learn new things about this 13 year old game.
There's also 5 shiny leaves that gets you a star on your trainer card. I remember finding that out and basically never being able to find one when I went back to try. I didn't know about the Arceus event either until watching this
At least BDSP is super easy to mod, I guess. No one wants it, so I could grab a copy of Shining Pearl for, like, half off and apply the Sigma Platinum mod. Someone ported parts of the B2W2 map in, so I could also look forward to a possible B2W2 remake in BDSP's engine.
@@RisottoNero-z1w game freak didn’t make it so I assume whatever other studio made it didn’t know what the fuck they were doing and just copied and pasted diamond and pearl.
HGSS were the GOAT. I'd take the Pokewalker with me to school and summer camp every day. If they ever bring back the Pokeathlon I will weep with joy, it's hands down my favorite side content in any Pokemon game ever.
Yesss, I used to play hours ONLY the Pokeathlon. It was so fun to control Pokémon via touch screen. Also, the pokewalker paved the way for street pass, I could bring with me the DS and 3DS just because "I need to walk with them mom, it's a game"
because of the "time travel" trade mechanic, its possible to easily get a shiny ditto from the gen 1 games. 1 Catch the Lake of Rage Shiny Gyrados and replace all of its moves with non-damaging Gen 1 moves. 2 Trade shiny Gyrados to R/B 3 Use the Gyrados as your lead and go encounter a ditto on route to the east of Koga's Gym 4 Let the Ditto transform into the gyrados from the future and then catch it. 5 Trade Ditto to G/S/C. Now you should have a shiny ditto. From what I understand of this process, the Gen 1 Ditto copies the DVs of the Gyrados from G/S/C when it transforms, with the DVs being the factor that determines whether a pokemon is shiny or not. I think the DV value is the same for all pokemon for being shiny. So when you catch the Ditto, it will have the same DV value as the Gyrados and when you trade it to the future, It should be shiny. Assuming you did this on the 3DS Virtual Console editions of the games, you should then be able to send that shiny Ditto basically anywhere else you want.
Also, on GS if you bred a Pokémon with a Shiny Ditto, the egg would have a 1/64 chance of being shiny. I had a more than half of breedable shinies on my Gold/Silver versions. I still have the games, but sadly the batteries died and I lost my Pokémon, my Yellow and Blue version still work on their original batteries. Still play them on Stadium. Jesus fuck I feel old HUASHUSAUHSAHUSA
Yeah, that's how I got a shiny to migrate from Pokemon Yellow. Since you can't breed in the game and shiny hunting in it is borderline impossible, I wanted to be able to migrate *something* unique from the game and I usually migrate shinies from my playthroughs. Finding out I could get a shiny Ditto with my Yellow trainer's OT was something I jumped on immediately. You can even send the shiny Pokemon to Bank from Gen 1 and it will still turn out shiny since they updated it to properly check the formula of DV-shininess. It'll say it's from Kanto when you put in the 3DS Gen 7 games and have the OT of whichever trainer caught it independently of that fact (Gen 1 or 2).
@@chapolinm_ Yeah 1 of the sad things about GSC is that due to the real time clock it drains the save storage battery much faster. So mine went out a few years ago. But the real time mechanics were and still are some of the best things about that generation. They shoulda at least put a little solar panel on the cart like a calculator.
For the record - and whoever is interested - the GTS has been revived by fans. By setting a different DNS server in your DS, you can connect to a Fan Service that replaces GTS. There are also different DNS-addresses for rediscovering past internet events. So you can get some of those event Pokémon mentioned in the video.

Video games are an interactive medium, that is entirely subjective because everyone interacting has a difference experience than the next person. In drawings, sculptures, music, books, video games and anything else, that has room for interactivity and/or personal interpretation, there cannot be any objectivity by definition. Only subjectivity. The music was the reward for beating Lance and the Elite Four, IMO. The score is so underrated. While Kanto was kinda empty, it was wonderful experiencing the new renditions of the Kanto music on the Gameboy of all devices. That 16-bit sound composition deserves some type of award.

the aesthetics of the original gen 2 games though are unmatched in my opinion. It has a cozy and retro vibe with enhanced color schemes from R/B/Y (which also had a nice retro aesthetic).
I feel like most people just focus on Diamond and Pearl, while these games belong in the same gen. HGSS were, are, and always will be the best Pokemon games IMO. The graphics, lore, interactivity, and OST. You're Pokemon follow you, and the colors are just amazing. There is something I feel when I replay these games: Familiarity.
First they made Platinum which was super great, then HGSS came just after. There should be no mystery why to this day I still regard Gen 4 to be the greatest genereation of pokemon ever. Words cannot describe how much I enjoyed those games..
@@northwestclasspnw7974 YES!! I was introduced to pokemon in gen 4 and I have to say DS era was PEAK pokemon. I love HGSS, platinum and B&W series with a passion!! With so much content in each of these games, Gen 6 therefore felt so much of a downgrade that I lost interest midway playing it.
It's only a year or two since I finally filled up my diamond pokedex, and now I have to do the same in platinum and HG, everytime I start a new playthrough (I restrict myself to holidays only) I just feel like my young self again and it's honestly terrific to be able to capture that feeling

I mean you probably did the same so there's no real reason why my experience is better than similar you might have done, but it just was as far as I'm concerned. Getting the OG versions was like getting the pie hot out of the oven- nobody knew anything and we were helping each other out constantly. Remakes were the reheated versions, even if you didn't check the spoilers, you knew the game was figured out.
You mentioned it offhandedly, and from a purely gameplay sense you can't, but lorewise, you can 100% get 4 badges from Kanto and 4 from Johto and have that count.
This shows how utterly packed these games were. After all the extra features, they also added the Pokewalker, which is an entire added device. Mind blowing!
The part about the employees asking the director if they were adding too much was the best part for me. Really shows how much they cared back in the day compared to now.
I played original Crystal/silver as a young kid and mostly all I remembered was that it was my favorite. I remembered random small things like head butting trees that made me love it. I never even knew you could go to Kanto until years later. I recently tried playing soul silver for the first time but stopped pretty quickly thinking it was all nostalgia and I was craving a rom hack challenge. But you said enough for me to want to play it again. Great vid
I wish current devs had for this and future pokemon generations. The amount of effort and content they add in a pokemon game is what makes it enjoyable and a memorable experience.
One correction. There is no restriction in trading a Pokémon with a held item back to red/blue. The Pokémon will come through with no item regardless. Fun fact though, if you trade the same Pokémon back to gold/silver, it will still be holding the same item.
The Celebi one is the only event I ever got to take part in, since it was the only one active when I got my DS. (You could also get a shiny version of each of Johto's trio as well, but I only got Suicune). Bonus points, you can trade that Celebi and one of those shiny dogs into Black or White via a special method and then get either Zoroa or Zoroark, which was especially fitting since they were released as a tie-in for the movie which introduced those Pokemon. The fight with Giovanni by itself is pretty sick.
It would be cool to get another gen where the map connects to a previous gen game and after you defeat the Elite 4, you can do the other map as post game content like in gen 2. That literally felt like 2 games in one
Gen 4 as a whole never gets old but HGSS is especially amazing. Just so incredibly deep with the main story, postgame, and BATTLE FRONTIER??? They didn't even need to add that and its so cool that they did.
OK WHAT!? I played this game back in uni (freakin' LOVED it - got it as soon as it came out)... I don't remember ANY of this extra content in the game. I'm mind blown. You just made me want to go back and play it again. Good vid!
HG has been my favorite Pokemon/RPG/single player game for a decade now. I didn't think I could appreciate it more, but you showed me the extent of the value it offers. Thank you.
I remember all the good times I had with my Pokewalker as a kid. I’d spend hours and hours walking to progress with it, though that may have been why I eventually lost it. I don’t remember how it had happened, but not only did I lose the Pokewalker, I lost my dearest Pokemon, the first Pokemon caught in my copy of Soulsilver, who I put in the Pokewalker shortly before it seemingly “vanished”. I still remember that Fearow of mine to this day, and I know that I can never get him back, but I can only wonder and imagine what adventures Fearow had without me the day we unfortunately parted. The Pokewalker was a true treasure, it brought me closer to my Pokemon more than I thought it would. I’m still hurt from losing it, but I suppose it’s the one device that can never be replaced. Nor have I found it in myself willing to replace Fearow, because even if my Pokemon didn’t exist in real life, to me that Fearow was my most trusted companion.
If you still have that save file, there is a way to get your Fearow back. By holding down+X+L in the "Connect to Pokewalker" screen, it should return your Fearow. I nearly lost my Pokewalker a few months back, with my first Pokemon ever, a Meganium called FRENZY in it. The screw came undone while I was running after my dog through some long grass, leaving me with the just back panel of it clipped to my waist. Thankfully found it after about 15 minutes, but man, was I distraught. He may just be a bundle of code, but he’s my favourite Pokémon I own.
Dude PLEASE do that Pokewalker code if you still have that save!! The battery in my walker died once and I thought I lost my beloved Ho-Oh there but thank god you can retrieve the mon without it. Everything good with that stuff now
I did what you recommended I've been reunited with my Fearow! I can hardly believe I got him back, I can't express the words of how grateful I am that I've recovered my friend because of your help and kindness! I had given up hope so long ago in getting back FEAROW, my Fearow, but he's with me again now after several years of missing him! I'm so relieved to see him after all this time!😭
Man, watching this makes me nostalgic for this game! And you're right, neither the new games nor the new remakes really scratch that itch quite like these did.
I was 10 when Pokemon red/blue came out and it was, well i mean it was what its known for; amazing. I remember gold/silver coming out and it being just more of an amazing formula. It was a slam dunk and being able to go back to Kanto was mind blowingly cool. it was great to have to discover all that without the internet (for the most part). Just sharing for what its worth, I guess.
besides the level gap being weird and some johto pokemon only being available in kanto (post game only) this game is pretty much a perfect remake and its one of the remakes i always come back to cause its so good.
@19:30 EVERYONE READ THIS Where the person is standing on the map is the best place to farm legendary beast encounters. Everytime you enter a route or town, they will also move to another route. There's only so many they can spawn, since some routes don't have tall grass. The route under Ecruteak (where the twins are) and the route below (where Sudowoodo is) are pretty much the only two routes they can spawn that are touching. So just sit on the borderline between the routes, then just take a step into the next route and check your Pokegear to see if they've also spawned on that route. They likely didn't, so just take a step back onto the other route and check the Pokegear... Rinse and repeat until it spawns on your route. Good luck!
I got Heartgold, my first pokemon game, on my 10th birthday, which is the age kids can officially set out to be pokemon trainers in the series. The days I spent playing HG and using the pokewalker were some of my happiest. The music, the story/setting, the gameplay. . . It was incredible
You could capture Pokémon using the PokéWalker. I think some locations were unlocked via Mistery Gift or events, and some of them were available outside Japan. I remember having unlocked a location where only wild Pikachu would appear (Yellow Forest or something like that?), and you could catch some cool Pokémon depending on the location. After a certain number of steps, rarer Pokémon would appear, and in this forest you could find Pikachu that could use Fly or Surf. I remember going through my game with a surfing Pikachu, that later turned into a surfing Raichu. Good memories. :)
You’ve just shattered a moment from my childhood. I always use to use Cal as names for my characters in games. And always though I was just fighting myself in these games. Didn’t realise Cal was just the name they gave that trainer 😅😅😅
Saw the title and immediately clicked like. This game was the ultimate remake. So much. So SO much content. The creators really went above and beyond what they should have put into this game. I never new how lucky I was to have my parents purchase this game for me. I started playing in 2010 and stopped in 2014 but I’ve picked it back up and I am still finding new things to do. Props to the creators to this God given game to us. Truly the BEST Pokémon remake
I was fortunate enough to play Gold, Diamond then Heartgold back to back. I was so blown away as a child that all my favorite things where still there and even better. And the amount of content they added was baffeling. Truly one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time
The Pokéwalker was MY JAM. I got Japanese HG and SS when they released giving me extra courses that had exclusive mons you could get waaaay earlier than the game would allow. I would take two Pokéwalkers with me while at community college and would rack up steps. After school, I’d bring one Pokéwalker with me to the skatepark. 4pm to 10pm everyday would RACK up steps. Beyond the nostalgia factor and all the awesome extras HGSS brought, the Pokéwalker was my absolute favorite aspect of the remakes.
It's not just the perfect remake, it's the magnum opus of classic Pokemon and arguably the best Pokemon game ever made. It incorporated every popular mechanic of previous games, and future games had no real further innovation.
I was 15 when I played hearthold and I still think it’s the best Pokémon game iv ever played I loved the fact that I can go to 2 different regions. And collect 16 badges and collect over 7 legendary Pokémon it felt like the game was constantly going and going even after I beat the elite 4. I now have a switch lite because I can’t find a 2ds anywhere I wanted to play Pokémon XY but I got Pokémon Violet I enjoyed it it’s not bad. But I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as I did with heartgold.
Man, watching your video send me back to my 5th-grade days. Talk about having all the time in the world, that was me lol. I remember playing Pokemon Gold for at least a year to catch all the legendary dogs and I never get to complete my Pokedex at all.
I started working out because of the pokewalker, went to the gym daily and ran as much as i could. Coming to think about it, I found my 1st dog on the my way back home from the gym. Thank you pokewalker lol.
Cerulean forest actually is cool, as a kid just starting your Pokémon adventure in gen 1 it seems spooky and large but now in gen 2 you’re already the champion and experienced, it is a little wood. It’s not threatening. It’s a much preferable way to think due to hardware/space limitations at the time
small correction about the pal park you can actually transfer as many Pokémon as you want every day in HeartGold and SoulSilver, the 6 mons per day limit only exists on the Sinnoh games
The only way it could be better if they made it possible to stop a conversation in the middle. Sometimes i press space too fast and it starts all over again

HGSS are packed full of content as you said, but the only games able to rival HGSS are black 2 and white 2. Those games have so many more useful and useless events that I love about them. They have the PWT, a battling facility that let's you eventually battle every single gym leader, elite four member and champion from gen 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. They have what I think is the most amount of catchable legendaries that aren't bundled toghether in some warping portal or space riding excuse, no they're actually in a cave or in a route. I love these games so much that my 2 second attention span ADHD brain was able to complete an entire living dex in them, including mythicals. It took me 3 years and I'm so proud of it. I love them so much that I even did some shiny hunts, which I still can't believe myself I did.
I miss when gamefreak poured this much attention and care into their games. The amount of love the devs are openly gushing out is amazing. Wish they got to do things they loved again, I feel like the remakes and putting a new spin on their classic creations is what keeps them up at night with excitement
@34:22 Not sure if anyone said this, but the thing about the big scary Pokemon, including Masquerain, scary away encounters is already in the game. That is literally the out-of-battle effect of the Intimidate ability and has done that since Emerald.
on the subject of pokemon breeding being a mystery, back then it just seemed silly that nobody had ever seen a pokemon lay an egg or whatever (like sure I guess the daycare people could've just not been paying attention or intentionally given the pokemon some privacy and then just pretended they didn't know where the egg came from), but with violet and scarlet the player gets to actually be present when the "breeding" takes place, and the pokemon being bred could literally just be sleeping on opposite ends of the picnic area, only for there to mysteriously be an egg in the basket when you look inside, so... yeah I think in-universe it's actually just some kind of mysterious phenomenon that people know the basic requirements for, but nobody really knows where the eggs are coming from.
One thing I like to do with Kanto because the gym leaders and trainers are powered down, is start a new team and treat it as a bit of an after story doing that. Then come the time to face Blue / Red, you can merge the best of both teams.
That's exactly what I did. I beat the Johto Elite Four with Feraligatr, Ursaring, and Donphan (among three others,) then started a new team in Kanto and used Arcanine, Pikachu, and Gengar (among three more Kanto mons) to beat all the Kanto gym leaders. Then used the top three Johto mons and top three Kanto mons to fight Red at Mt. Silver.
@@MarvinPowell1 That's a fun way to do it and fun picks. Sometimes if any of team 1 is ever underleveled too they'll be part of the Kanto team too. Recent Crystal run for instance I didn't bring my Gengar and he fell behind everyone else.
As someone who was introduced to Pokemon at about 4 or 5, I had the opportunity to play Pokemon Red and Blue, had absolutely NO IDEA that Yellow, GSC, RSE, and FRLG even existed until after HGSS came out. After Red and Blue, I played Pokemon Diamond (Mom and dad shared a copy of Pearl which I was later given 10+ years later), and then following Diamond I recieved Platinum and then Heartgold. I have gotten ahold of literally at least one version of each Gen of Pokemon games from DS up to Switch since age 10 and loved how much I would spend hours on it. (Hell I have Violet and Scarlet and play them not as often now but still do.) Pokemon is a childhood game to me, and my autistic hyperfixation since 4 or 5 and still strongly stands as one.
If they didn't make sapphire and Ruby that would have been a big loss. I've been playing since red and blue. The first generations had a special place in my Heart. It was a time when internet wasn't readily available and everything was just brand new and never spoiled like it is today. For me 3rd Gen was just perfect. The vivid colors. All three starters were bangers unlike any other game. I remember getting my first random shiny and not knowing what the heck was going on. It was a green golbat and I just looked at it for minutes because I didn't know what a shiny was. They never mentioned shines and the red Gyarados in the lake was just always stated to be red and a experiment of team rocket.
I find it funny how the frlg sevii island story is the direct cause for team rockets actions in johto... And the fact that the "link connetion" set up on the sevii story connects kanto and hoenn. Even more fitting that, in the gen 2 remakes, it is in the middle, johto, where u can catch the hoenn legendaries AND have a tie in to Sinnoh too... Normaly u only know that these games are in the same universe, but in the remakes u really feel how connected this world really is..
Johto is what I consider most nostalgic. I played them the most as a kid and remember going to the store to buy them with my parents. The remakes were amazing and super fun, crystal is probably my favorite game
Here's how I think the games could have been adjusted to allow all evolution methods: * Put the Mossy Rock for Leafeon in Ilex Forest or Viridian Forest * Put the Ice Rock for Glaceon in the Ice Path or the Seafoam Islands * Have the Power Plant generate the magnetic field for Magnezone and Probopass once it's restored
I was a junior in high school when this came out. Me and the guys didn’t really get into it until senior year and man all the memories! Battling, trading, helping each other out along the way etc. this one will always have a special place in my heart. Played the original ones back I. The day and logged more time on crystal than any other Pokemon game. So these remakes were absolutely refreshing and brought back old memories and created new ones along the way. I completely agree though. Because of what gamefreak did in this game I’m not sure another Pokemon game will ever get me to feel that way again. Best of all time hands down! So good that I’ll be purchasing a new DS and soul silver copy to experience it again
34:29 Side note here, in many games, Masquerain actually does do that thanks to its Intimidate ability, which has an out of battle effect that can reduce the chance of encountering wild pokemon.
I'll never forget two awesome moments I had playing Gold as a little kid: one was running into suicine and capturing him on the first try, and also randomly finding Lapras without realizing it was a Friday only event. Unmeasurable amount of joy was had playing that game.
I've been playing these games for years, but I never really bothered with the trainer house. Cool to know that there's a trainer with my namesake in there I never even knew about lmao
Pokemon Gold was the first Pokemon game I ever owned. I obviously played Gen 1 first but never owned my own game. Had to always play my friends and they let me borrow it for weeks at a time (looking back, had great friends when I was 8). Crystal, to me, is still the best Pokemon game of all time.
FRLG and HGSS gave people hope that eventual future remakes for other games would be absolute masterpieces. While ORAS wasn’t horrible, the fact they didn’t include the battle frontier was a huge red flag that they were going to start cutting corners for remakes. Then BDSP came out. It’s safe to say I have no idea why people would even want a Black and White remake at this point because it’s pretty clear that quality is not a priority anymore and it’s all about meeting deadlines. The era of good remakes is over.
@TheGary2346 In my opinion, the only good remakes were HG/SS. I started on gen 1, so the Kanto remakes are such half-assed TRASH to me! They're boring, the gen 3 TMs suck, they ruined many of the wild Pokemon locations (you can't get Nidorans or Mankeys until much later now), and there's no Missingno glitch to add fun to them unlike gen 1. Besides the Sevii Islands, the gen 1 remakes are such garbage, in my opinion. Not to mention, there literally never was a Green version outside of Japan, so how TF are you going to release a "LeafGreen" version to North America and everywhere else? OR/AS also sucked because they just made it a copy of Kalos and I hated Kalos and Mega Evolutions, but as most said, it's due to the lack of the Battle Frontier. How you gonna remake the region that introduced the Battle Frontier and leave it out of the remake? There's literally no reason to play OR/AS or BD/SP if you've already played Emerald or Platinum, as those are the definitive versions of gen 3 and 4. BD/SP were such dogsh*t, I don't even acknowledge those as having ever existed; we basically never got a Sinnoh remake.
@@MarvinPowell1 agreed with the last part. Although firered was the only pokemon game I stopped playing in the middle because of how boring it felt (came back after a few weeks) I still prefer them over GB versions. And ORAS not having a battle frontier was terrible but I feel like they kind of compensated with some new features. But about BDSP you're right . I was so sicked before launch but they're utterly garbage! Sinnoh never got remakes indeed!
I remember very specifically wearing the PokeWalker when I was a sophomore in high school. This remake was just too good and is still my favorite Pokemon game period.
Those little obscure events that gold and silver is full of are what make it the best video game of all time, to me. Heartgold and Soulsilver are, to date, the games that I've spent the most time playing. I absolutely love them.

I always thought it was cool that something Pokemon related (as I was a huge pokemon nerd at the time) was seeing unironic, legitimate use, and being taken pretty seriously. Even if it was for something as mundane as an accurate pedometer

The mindset of the developers had when making HG/SS is something I wish current devs had for this and future pokemon generations. The amount of effort and content they add in a pokemon game is what makes it enjoyable and a memorable experience.
I wish they had it for the ORAS as well :/
I can't even fault the devs because a lot of problems in the newer games look like they're cause by time constraints.

It was also a gigantic pain in the ass if you didn't go out of you way to train up a Pokemon specifically to hunt those 2 Pokemon.
@@GrammarNaziAUShow did you catch them in that short of time?
@@omother942 As I said, false swipe, a paralysis or sleep move, play at night (or switch your DS to night) and use a dusk ball for a greater catch chance than with even an Ultra Ball. Simply use fly to fly to the nearest town to the route, and try and find them. If after you don't get an encounter with them after 3 or 4 encounters, check the Pokegear's map to see if they've moved. If they have, simply fly nearby and repeat.
Just make sure not to use poison, as it can KO them, and they don't regen health between encounters, and they can't lose their status effects, which makes false swipe, and sleep/paralysis extremely useful against them.

because of the "time travel" trade mechanic, its possible to easily get a shiny ditto from the gen 1 games.
1 Catch the Lake of Rage Shiny Gyrados and replace all of its moves with non-damaging Gen 1 moves.
2 Trade shiny Gyrados to R/B
3 Use the Gyrados as your lead and go encounter a ditto on route to the east of Koga's Gym
4 Let the Ditto transform into the gyrados from the future and then catch it.

Where the person is standing on the map is the best place to farm legendary beast encounters. Good luck!

Good luck, the prices aren't quite as bad as they used to be but they're still over $80 everywhere I've looked

Yes gold was my favorite as a kid. I’m 45 now and just started playing heart gold. I love the game and it’s bring back so many cool memories ♥️
I miss when gamefreak poured this much attention and care into their games. The amount of love the devs are openly gushing out is amazing. Wish they got to do things they loved again, I feel like the remakes and putting a new spin on their classic creations is what keeps them up at night with excitement
2000 was the absolute peak of Pokémon, the game boy games plus the cards out at the time, and the cultural takeover it had.
Oh wow, I sunk hundreds of hours into SS and I've missed a lot of content it looks like!
@34:22 Not sure if anyone said this, but the thing about the big scary Pokemon, including Masquerain, scary away encounters is already in the game. That is literally the out-of-battle effect of the Intimidate ability and has done that since Emerald.
Kanto in the original Gold and Silver games was kinda like "Return to Oz".
on the subject of pokemon breeding being a mystery, back then it just seemed silly that nobody had ever seen a pokemon lay an egg or whatever (like sure I guess the daycare people could've just not been paying attention or intentionally given the pokemon some privacy and then just pretended they didn't know where the egg came from), but with violet and scarlet the player gets to actually be present when the "breeding" takes place, and the pokemon being bred could literally just be sleeping on opposite ends of the picnic area, only for there to mysteriously be an egg in the basket when you look inside, so... yeah I think in-universe it's actually just some kind of mysterious phenomenon that people know the basic requirements for, but nobody really knows where the eggs are coming from.
One thing I like to do with Kanto because the gym leaders and trainers are powered down, is start a new team and treat it as a bit of an after story doing that. Then come the time to face Blue / Red, you can merge the best of both teams.
That's what I remember doing back in the day.
(Hell I have Violet and Scarlet and play them not as often now but still do.)
Pokemon is a childhood game to me, and my autistic hyperfixation since 4 or 5 and still strongly stands as one.
Here's how I think the games could have been adjusted to allow all evolution methods:
* Put the Mossy Rock for Leafeon in Ilex Forest or Viridian Forest
* Put the Ice Rock for Glaceon in the Ice Path or the Seafoam Islands
* Have the Power Plant generate the magnetic field for Magnezone and Probopass once it's restored
See videos like this just makes me incredibly sad with the current state of pokemon and how far they've fallen and how little they care now
Súper in depth! I played this game to completion multiple times, and didn’t even know half of the bonus content you mentioned, Awesome
The algorithm is blessing me today holy you just uploaded this too
I was a junior in high school when this came out.
You deserve a strong viewer base. Hoping the algorithm blesses you, comrade ♥️

I love me some Voltorb Flip. Can’t believe we got a goated game within a goated game 🔥
Probably could have made some extra change by selling it as DSiWare at some point.
I still prefer slots but damn flip was actually fun, it got too much crap
@j_sol2550
Voltorb Flip is literally the worst minigame Pokemon has ever produced. I'm shocked anyone could write such a comment without trolling.
@@MarvinPowell1
Damn Marvin why don't you let me enjoy my voltorb flip without all this negativity
34:29 Side note here, in many games, Masquerain actually does do that thanks to its Intimidate ability, which has an out of battle effect that can reduce the chance of encountering wild pokemon.
red and blue will always be the closest to my heart but these were probably the best.
I still have my copy of heartgold I’m tryna sell it ion kno how much tho
You could even say good games in general honestly
There is a good remake of black and white they’re called rom hacks
@TheGary2346
In my opinion, the only good remakes were HG/SS.
Even the era of good new games are over. No National Dex inside the game's code is an absurd! No excuses
Soul Silver is still my fondest memory in a Pokemon game because it's the only time I've ever managed to catch a shiny legendary (Ho-Oh).
Other than gen4 games having generally slow text boxes and combat animations, Platinum and HG/SS are some of the best Pokemon experiences you can have
To think we went from this to Scarlet and Violet. We truly had the best generation growing up and I hope kids these days get to experience it as well
The greatest pokemon games we'll ever get. Plus GB sounds is the best item in the series, since those original chiptunes are absolute perfection
You make such great videos!! Can't wait to hear you talk about gen 3. 😊
Those little obscure events that gold and silver is full of are what make it the best video game of all time, to me.
Heartgold and Soulsilver are, to date, the games that I've spent the most time playing. I absolutely love them.
