    Nice vid...👍🏻 Just for the protocol, Scandinavia is Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Nordic countries is, Scandinavia plus Finland, Iceland and Faroe Islands...

    It’s really a pretty knife Boy Scout. For myself, a Mora Companion is good enough for a Scandi grind.

    Hey Late BoyScout...thanks for the review, nicely done! Regarding the micro bevel, i will re profile it to a true scandi hen I get mine next week...:)

    Hi, LBS - do you have any idea why TOPS made the handle with those two small hles close to the blade?
    Tks,.

    Tried this knife, sold it, the two tubes right at the forward part of the handle gave me hot spots after prolonged use wish they didn't add them, I can get over the ugly screws but function over form is more important to me and hot spots are not good.

    Good review! What kind of wood did you use to make that spreader? It has some really pretty grain!

      I'm not actually sure. A friend of mine thinks it's Pear.

    It makes me wonder at the history of the design. I guess I have some reading to do.

    Good video. I wish it would come with a Kydex sheath. I have the Tops BOB and I like it for a detail work knife. I don’t know if I would compare this to a Mora as some people have done....but I would take it over a mora. A lot of Mora’s are not full tang. Some can live with that I can’t so I’ll stick with Tops and Esee knives.

      I would love to have this, but I do have the carbon garberg that's an awesome full tang mora, but it's about the same price

    Is this knife has a mico edge ? Thank you

    • @recycled3654
      @recycled3654 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. When mine gets dull, I intend to hone it to full scandi for ease of field sharpening.

  • @jordy703

    For the money i would buy a Mora Garberg carbon. Thats a real scandi grind and made in Scandinavia. This looks a bit like a puukko but its not. I still like it though really cool knife. Broomstick handles for me work perfect. You can hold the knife however you want and it always hold perfect. Thanks for the clear vid👍🏼

    Can anyone explain the difference from this and a standard mora knife aside from the 5x price difference

    • @gregkis
      @gregkis 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Heidesch it has a full tang

      moras are throw aways- this is ment to last many lifetimes-

    • @Wildwestwrangler
      @Wildwestwrangler 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fit'n finish. The steel on this is better quality than the mora, although the carbon garberg steel seems the same, but they are both priced similarly, also has McCarty handles and two bowdrill divots, also has a very heavy duty high quality sheath, also has removable scales and comes with a wicked sharp 90 degree spine, which most moras do not, and has an exposed full tang. Probably a few other points I'm forgetting here, but it's a decent list that justifies the price.

    This knife has a secondary bevel so it's not a scandi grind. If this is a scandi grind then what the hell is a Sabre grind.

    • @judgedread9639
      @judgedread9639 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Arshan Mostafavi the secondary bevel is a micro bevel, much smaller than a standard edge like on a sabre

    Excellent knife apart from the cheap screws

  • @kaizoebara
    @kaizoebara 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There is a clearly visible secondary bevel, so it's more of a sabre grind, much like the other TOPS "scandi" ground knives. Kinda sad for the lost potential (or the work/time/materials still needed to grind it to zero for that matter).

    No finger guard means no fingers to me, lol. I know scandis draw cut traditionally so it wouldn’t be a problem for them, but i dont use a knife like that.

    What's with the screws?

    • @TOPSKnivesofficial
      @TOPSKnivesofficial 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We used brass because we've found that even in the jungle, stainless steel screws can still rust out of a knife, but not brass.

      I own 3 TOPS knifes. WPH and lions toothpick and apache falcon. All amazing quality. I was surprised to see those screws. Thanks for the explanation.

      TOPS Knives But why screws?

    • @TOPSKnivesofficial
      @TOPSKnivesofficial 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because we don't epoxy our handles to the tangs of the blades. Screws hold the handles much better than if we had only used barrels.

      I am a big fan of TOPS knives. But I don't understand why in the world the Phillips head screws were used. They look like hardware that should be used for a dresser drawer. Out of the multitude of hardware options available, there must be something other than a Phillips head that would work?

    🤭🤒this was a let down. You did such a great review of the Spyderco PM2 and actually cut things with a purpose to get insulation and feathersticks for a 🔥 fire and showed how well it would preform in a survival situation. Please do that again. Climb a tree wait for a deer 🦌 jump on its back slice his throat, dress him out, build a fire and then slice him up and cook... you know basic survival stuff! This review was pretty mundane.

      Yes it absolutely is!!! You're idea of what something is worth is majorly screwed!!!

    • @yadjekim
      @yadjekim 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Wildwestwrangler I'm sorry? Who are you to tell me the worth of something? You, who has NO idea how much/what kinds of kit I already own. I think it's a fine tool, with a design that will make it useful for just about any field task(I absolutely hate that tracker style sheath, though). I, personally, don't need another field blade at that price. $75? Maybe. $60? certainly! I own Mora and Gerber knives that can do what it does, ALL of them under $100. So, it's just not worth it, TO ME. Have a great day and stay safe!
