Every outdoorsman should experience the smell of the Sonoran Desert at dawn or after a rain. It is a rugged beautiful place.

170 is the sugested price from TOPS I think, because I'm seeing it around the $120 mark at most knife outlets like BHQ. For $120, I'm seriously considering picking one up. It's a good looking knife, and I'm a TOPS fan, so definitely appealing to me.

Survival knife, bushcraft knife, hunting knife, people seem to put a lot of emphasis on placing knives in categories. Pick a knife you like, and use it. Pick 10 knives you like and use them. No reason to give any knife a category. Most survivalist type guys have moved down to small blades, but that doesn't mean you have to. Their skills can compensate for any short comings of a smaller knife.

How cool you remember Dave from, Survivorman too. I memorized every episode of season 1. I can word from word his trips to Arizona and southern Utah where he met "desert Dave"

Sheath needs a boot clip, I'm gonna use it for an inner city survival knife, River Quay survival.

Toasted peanut butter and fluff is my go to. Sliced beans I would pass. Like how the blade swoops up. Nice sheath. My part of NH was close to 90. Enjoy the snow

I really like the looks of this blade...
I like an acute (stabby) tip to my blades...it makes the blade more versatile.

Dave Holliday and the Late Mors Kochanski are 2 guys who if they design a knife you should pay attention ...Gonna get one had the Tops Puukko but the sheath wasn't the best glad they revisted the sheath on this one...awesome

I own a few Tops knives: El Chete, Kuma Kage, B.O.B. They are all good. This knife I would use as a skinning knife and believe it would do fine on about anything large or small. Thanks Tim for the video.

@@jerrydonquixote5927 Hello Jerry, I could not find it anywhere either. Fortunately for me, I got it from Aaron at Gideonstactical You Tube Channel as a give-a-way. I could hardly believe my luck. It is a monster blade and Aaron is a real stand up dude.

Most of the time I have some strong reservations regarding one part or the other of the design. This knife is almost perfect, most of my minor qualms have to do with the handle. I wish is had more of a guard area, than what it appears to have. As you pointed out it's not ideal for large hands. They could resolve this by adding 3/4" to the handle, and maybe the same to the blade. Otherwise the handle slabs should be thickened by 1/8" and more contoured.

I have numerous tops fieldcraft b.o.b (some stock, some modified) and the tops msk 2.5 (as part of a system in each of my 3 kits) ... they have been great knifes and I def like them a LOT better than mora, I just prefer that wider/deeper blade style of the b.o.b and the msk 2.5 is very sweet also. I wish they would go to a factory 90 degree spine but alas my solution was switching over to a simple 550 paracord necklace with a baylite scraper lol and thats been my set up for years now and tbh it saves wear and tear on knife spines (might not look cool on video, but who is recording video in a survival situation anyways). I also carry a tops bob as part of my homestead daily carry ... sometimes I will switch it out for a tbs grizzly which also has a wider/deeper blade style ... and every now and then i will even carry a mora bushcraft black or garberg and I usually pair it up with the mora eldris (I own way too many knives)

@@David..832 I honestly would hate the thought of even counting them. And the sad part about it is, if I buy 1 and like it, I have to buy 3 more because I keep a kit in each vehicle and then one to carry .... I like things to be the same lol

To my mind, that is a woodsman knife rather than survival knife. It's a bit of a throwback to the days where the fixed blade was used for food prep qnd game processing while wood carving duties were handle by a pocket knife

How does it compare to the TOPS Brakimo?

  • @Airik1111bibles
    @Airik1111bibles 2 ปีที่แล้ว

It's more of a fish and game knife that can be used if need be to do some simple bushcrafting. That upseep belly is great for gutting a fish and skinning animals esp small ones like rabbits. I find that those types of blades can be a tad bit annoying for wood work....Its doable but ya always feel like you can't get the right angle, atleast for me that's how I feel .
I have a tiny pukko that's very old with the same grind and shape its a fun knife but nothing and whittling is a struggle for my style.

this is when Tops looses a big sale , a small knife like this with close to 5/32 they could at least have produced it with either A2 or 154 cm with a higher hardness and a sharper spine there are enough knife users would have appreciated that and had more incentive to buy one

cool blade wish the handles were non polished micarta still trade ya though 😉. I’d say it’s not a survival knife in most environments but for the desert where it won’t rust and u won’t be batoning or chopping much at all it would work Greaat!!!! Though I would like to see a sharper spine at least on the upper half 🥹.
