It's nice to see some sub $100 knife reviews again. It seems like so many channels have gone to premium knife reviews which are awesome knives I'm sure, but the most expensive knife I've ever bought was $140. I just can't justify much over the $100 price point.

They are great knives I used them for camping.

Hey man, I'm new to the channel, but awesome jobs with the videos sir, I checked out a good deal of your bench made knife reviews and it swayed to me to pick one up. I got the Barrage and I couldn't be happier with it, also I know this isn't a bench made review, but just wanted to say thanks for pointing me in the right direction anyway. Thanks man, cheers!

Thanks Late BS! Another great review. I actually purchased the 56L as a companion knife for the Schrade SCHF52. They are working out great as a team! I like them with TPE handles on both. Now I just need to find a great Kydex Guy to make me a 2-knife awesome sheath for them. I'll probably pay more for that sheath than I did for both knives. Schrade offers very good knives at very affordable prices. I think that if someone is just getting into bushcraft, they should honestly look into Schrade. I think that Schrade offers many options for reliable blades for keeping in get-home emergency kits and even for more-extended bug-out kits. All of MY kits have Schrade knives in them. That's how I roll... good knives at affordable prices.

Great options as kit knives, agreed.

Most all Schrade's bushcraft style knifes seem like very good bang for the buck.

I have several Schrades from their SCHF series. The only thing I don't like about their smaller knives in the 6" or shorter blade length is blade thickness. As an example, the SCHF56L has a spine thickness of 3/16" which in my opinion adds unnecessary weight. That particular blade, on a knife that size, doesn't need to be over 1/8" thick at the spine. The ONLY reason Schrade makes the spines so thick on their SCHF series knives is to cater to the mass "batoning wood" craze. Their knives are pretty dang good knives for the price point, BUT, Schrade needs to slim down their blades, especially those with a 1/4" spine thickness. For a big, large blade knife 3/16" spine thickness is plenty thick enough. And, for smaller knives in the 6" length or less, a 1/8" spine is plenty thick enough. Although I like Schrade SCHF series knives, if their knives, (we're made with thinner spines), & couldn't hold up to all the batoning/chopping wood, the "tip test" & the myriad of other nonsense that survivalist, bush crafters & zombie apocalypse preppers try to put 'em through, (which most of that nonsense isn't what's knife is designed for), then Schrade should rethink their steel selection & heat treating.

Exactly. There is no reason such short knives should be so incredibly thick. It is just impractical.

I still enjoy using my 56l, it's really comfortable, I had to sharpen it to my liking but next I'll be getting a Kydex sheath as the Velcro went out on the one mine came with.

They look like work horses given how thick they are. Seems like a good option for a budget blade.

I had a much different experience with the 56 and 56l that they sent me. The grind on the 56L is so thick as to make it a very poor performer. I liked the handles but Schrade really needs to rethink the stock thickness and grind of these knives. I couldn't recommend them in my review.

They're certainly built for durability over fine performance.

People like this knife for the same reason they like the Falkniven F1 and the Becker BK2.

Nice video.... I have been trying to decide since yesterday, but I found the SCHF56L for $17.07 online and after seeing Tim's review (EverydayTacticalVids) was interested, but you convinced me that for the quality and thickness I should get one. I happen to own several Schrade's (SCHF9, SCHF10, and SHCF55) and so I know they offer good value.

What is the length of the blade of the Schf56 smallest knife? Looks an 1" shorter than the 56L?

TY but the short one is about 3.5" looks like its discontinued so it does not matter. A reviewer noted the short knife has a wider grind and is a better slicer than the 56L/M.

They still haven't released the micarta and Kydex sheath versions yet, supposedly they are coming out this month for around $30.
These knives will be awesome with the upgrades but IMO they should have went thinner with the overall deaign, they don't need to be that thick. I hope this leads to more better bushcrafting knives this year, micarta and Kydex. PLEASE SCHRADE JUST STOP WITH THE CRAPPY NYLON.
