Excellent Review (again) Brian! The TOPS Tanimboca is one of my favorite knives for smaller wood work - the shape and grind of the blade along with the handle design just gives so much control and precision, and yet it is still a very robust knife! Hey, it seems like you didn't read the blue paper that came with your TOPS knife - it says you should NEVER throw a knife!! 🤭😄🤣 Oh, I forgot, your yard is equipped with a balance testing laboratory - I guess that's ok then! 😉
i got a medford wakizashi made out of 3v 1/4 thick. gotta send it out t have s kydex sheath made. baddest knife i have ever owned. watch miller bros blades test 3v. and s35vn. i also have a medford udt. that clips on my pack. have a good day boss.
Tops warranty says not to throw. That’s crazy! Of course it will be thrown! I don’t know why knife manufacturers put that on their warranty. This was a great video and great knife. Thanks Brian.
So what’s the thought on the Phillips head screws? I know that bumps some people. I guess I don’t care too much from an aesthetics standpoint, but I find it a curious manufacturing choice.
For example moisture would be problem in rain forest so the designer made this choise they can be easily removed for maintenance. I personally dont mind at all, and easy maintenance is good idea i think.
Very nice review 👍 Bryan! Looks like a great little knife. But currently I am looking at the Mora Eldris or the Esee lzula? Just can't seem to make up my mind. Thanks for the video review hope all is well with you and your family!
@@thebadgersdenvaletudoclub6254 Yeah this type of grind is very common here in finland. I guess its because finnish knives tend to be often higher grind than mora or many of the scandi knives so the secondary bevel is added for strenght. The actual edge bevel is often more of micro bevel
Great review Bryan. The only down fall for this knife is the Bow Drill Divot in the handle. I would never use that due to possibility of cutting your hand on a very sharp knife. Thanks for a awesome review!
I did think of that and your correct on that point. Believe it or not, I took a old inline skate wheel that is 80 mm in dia. spent $6 for new roller ball bearings and use it for my bearing block. The wheel is a little over 3" in Dia. and the poly wheel is comfortable in your hand. The ball bearing is 3/8' Dia. for the axle and holds the spindle nice and is almost friction free in the wheel. I wish someone would do a video on this idea I had. Thanks for your comment and you did a awesome job on this review. God Bless to you and your family.
Ain't no sissy knife is right. I use this knife daily. Not to intimidating to carry. People pay little attention to it on my belt. I carry mine on dangler. It is my favorite Tops Knife. Great knife. Good job Bryan.
The puukko knife is Finnish, actually, not Scandinavian. Puukko is Finnish for knife. Finland is not Scandinavian in culture, language, or geography. Scandinavians have borrowed knife design from their Finnish neighbours. As have Russians (the "Finka" or Finnish knife of the Red Army). And many confuse Nordic or northern, with Scandinavian, which indicates the north Germanic tribes that speak mutually intelligible languages. Danish, Norwegian (offshoots Icelandic and Faroese), Swedish, and split off the same people. The Finns came from the east. Siberia, Karelia. The are related to Estonians. The outstanding practical knife traditions of Norway, and the great equally practical knife traditions of Finland, have different origins. Kind of like calling a Barlow knife American, because every American boy used to own one, even though it is English. Or calling the American Bowie knife English, even if England made most Bowie knives used in America in Sheffield for much of the 19th century. Common error. But let's return the Puukko to Finland! Thanks for a great review, and excuse a knife enthusiast's well-meaning comments. -David/Haifa
ROFL 🤣... I've had bounce back like that before ....That little inner voice that I have left of my dad says ... "There ya go again dummy , you're gonna stab your leg " .... As I throw the knife again LOL..
It is nice to see a more "every day usable" knife from TOPS. They do make a great product but a lot of them are for the over the top tacticool crowd. I really dig this puukko though.
Great knife and good job with the facial hair this really pisses off the transgenders, You gotta let the chin whiskers go alittle longer to give you good gizzard protection.
I have this knife & it is one of my all time favorites! Love it!

I have this knife and i love it. High quality and amazing leather sheath. Great knife
Me also, just love it. Perfect carry size, in the pack or on your belt. Fits my female medium hand perfectly.
The ricasso is the area of the blade between the plunge grind and the scales.
That looks like the ultimate carving knife. I might actually buy this one!
Great little knife and great review of it Brian!

Grt video & looks like a grt knife. When I first started watching I hoping u would balance test it. Grt job. Thx
This knife and the BOB knife are a great team from tops
Nice presentation Brian, helluva t-shirt too 👍🏼👏🏼👍🏼👏🏼
Glad you like it!
Hi,
Which Tops knife brings you more joy? This Puuko or the Backpacker Bowie? Thank you
Tops warranty says not to throw. That’s crazy! Of course it will be thrown! I don’t know why knife manufacturers put that on their warranty. This was a great video and great knife. Thanks Brian.
They put it here because they don’t want to replace knives broken by people like me ;-)
@@SurvivalOnPurpose that makes sense.
Put in a lanyard hole and I am sold. Good video, Bryan.
The stump: You’re killing me, Brian.....🤪🤪🤪 Love the knife.
Nice review. I like your new video background, much better than looking at your neighbor’s house. 😊
Thanks!
how do you sharpen a knife with a modified scandi grind? any difference?
Muy bonito cuchillo.
Looks like a good edc
No doubt the pride of many collections and used relentlessly for opening letters. While the "beater" Mora goes out on those field trips.
The new Mini Puukko’s nice, too...
The ricasso is what you were talking about...
By George I think you are correct.
Or a plunge line?
Un hermoso cuchillo !!!!!
Tengo varios Tops y son fantásticos, espero poder tener ese tambien
Hey Tops...why no lanyard hole?
TOPS probably ain't reading these comments ;-)
That is a handily sized knife. And I like the leather sheath
excellent review! i think ya sold me on it
I think brass inserts on the bow drill divots would make a big difference
A Bic in your pocket makes a bigger difference ;-)
So what’s the thought on the Phillips head screws? I know that bumps some people. I guess I don’t care too much from an aesthetics standpoint, but I find it a curious manufacturing choice.
Makes it very easy to remove the scales if you want to
Almost everyone has a Philipps near by and there made of brass so they wont rust.
For example moisture would be problem in rain forest so the designer made this choise they can be easily removed for maintenance. I personally dont mind at all, and easy maintenance is good idea i think.
Nice video

Both are hood but pretty different.
whats your intro music called
The Survival On Purpose Theme
Isn't it basically a hollow saber grind? The tip looks a bit concave
No. it is not a hollow grind at all. It is basically a scandi grind with a secondary edge bevel. Sort of like a saber grind
@@SurvivalOnPurpose Ah. Nice. Definitely looks like a saber grind of sorts. A scandi with secondary bevel would indeed be a flat saber grind.

You can use it with the knife in the sheath if you are concerned.

Just because it’s there doesn’t mean you must use it. Just pretend it’s not there.
Good review.
I really like this design I'm just trying to find a reason to NOT buy another Tops 🙃 lol stay strong&healthy safe&happy Brian!!(=✌💚
I see you have a new knife target , what wood did you use? From NE of Chattanooga about 60 miles Have a good day, you are appreciated
Just regular old 2x6 lumber.
Puukko is a Finnish word that means knife 🙂

I have the tanimboca puukko I have used it for 2 years and it has stood up well yesterday I fileted some fish and started a fire with it
Good to know.

looks like our kitchen paring knives.
Puukko is FINNISH not "scandinavian".

Indeed
I bought one, My wife took it, I had to buy another. LOL
The screws makes the knife dirty. Nice design, but screws? 🥴
I really like Tops knives. I think I have 7... maybe 8. I better go count them again. 😂
Inventory accuracy is important
@@SurvivalOnPurpose It also keeps me from buying duplicates unless I feel the need for a second, or third...

I really dig this puukko though.
They have several that aren't too over the top like the tops hog, and the Baja 4.5, and 3.0, and the tops dragonfly
They also have a mini tanimboca puuko now
I love you

Pu ko, not Scandinavian, Finnish who are Lettic people......
