  • What is the the Toyota Corolla Cross? It looks like the Toyota Corolla hit the gym and now has something to prove. Toyota has many different vehicle line ups, but the Corolla Cross is Toyotas attempt at gaining ground in one of the fastest growing segments. So what is the Corolla on steroids, otherwise known as the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross, all about? Where does it land when going head to head with its competitors. In this Toyota Corolla Cross review, Brad and Jared discuss how it is so similar to the ordinary Corolla, but also discuss the differences in the Corolla Cross. They also discuss passenger volume, price, and address the two major complaints people are finding with the 2022 Corolla Cross. Come along for the journey to see if the Corolla Cross is the right vehicle for you!
    **A special thanks to Forbes Waterloo Toyota for lending us the 2022 Corolla Cross!**

    I like the point you made about these speed snobs wrongfully attacking Point A to B vehicles like Corollas on their 0-60 times which are more than adequate for getting up to speed on the highway.

      I have a 2004 Toyota Matrix with a 1.8 four cylinder, 132hp, old school 4 speed auto overdrive and it is rated at about 9.2-9.6 zero to sixty.
      Honestly it zips around very nicely. Even to freeway merge or steep mountain passes it goes pretty good. I think the secret here is a very good traditional 4 speed automatic that just holds gears and shifts when it should versus the new cvt transmissions that may chug along .
      Anywho, what is also very important in a good engine is some decent low end torque to just get the damn vehicle moving . Most compact and sub compacts lack good low end torque. Or they will have a turbo to make up for the deficit.
      Personally I prefer a non turbo engine just to avoid complexities, special maintenance or fluids and filters, higher parts replacement costs, etc.
      I think that either the base has engine or hybrid Corolla Cross will be a hugeeeee seller for Toyota. I’d buy either one if I was not so damn broke. 😂

      Those early Matrix models had a bit of pep. They were everything a Corolla sedan was but better in almost every way. Jared had an 06 Matrix. Great car.

    I was actually going to give a thoughtful replay to the Cross vs C-HR question you guys posed. But once I learned Toyota has moved to a subscription model for a remote start I stopped because it was at that moment Toyota lost my business. These aren't luxury $100,000+ vehicles here and a basic function like a remote start should never come with a subscription. There is plenty of competition out there that once you buy a vehicle you don't have to keep paying them to simply use your vehicle.
    Your hats section was really entertaining. My wife and I were cracking up, especially at the getting beaten up by your friends commentary. Very valid. Great job once again!

      Haha. Thanks so much. Glad you liked that bit. Remember when Toyota said no to Apple CarPlay and decided to come up with their own version. That lasted a year maybe and then they chose to use CarPlay. Toyota listens when their clients speak. You never know, they could always change their subscription model down the road. We hope they do.

The vehicle shutting off at full stops is to maximize fuel economy so they can achieve the fuel ratings posted on the window sticker. Although it can towe 1,500 Lbs. It is not advisable to do so when you first break this car in because the engine’s cylinders do not actually wear as quickly to normal specifications since the engine periodically turns off using the internal battery to drive the two seperate electric motors which propell the wheels forward. And actually straining the drive train the first 25,000 miles decreases performance and increases damage and expensive repairs. Best to wait until after the initial 25,000 miles before towing 1,500 pounds. Instead of after the first 5,000 miles.
    Never over fill your hybrid fuel tank beyond capacity, as it will flood a special emmissions control dry carbon filter system that must not become wet with fuel over flow invading this space next to the fuel tank. I have no idea the cost to repair my brand new Carolla Cross Hybrid because i was unaware what i did, when I ignored the first fuel fill click at the pump and fuel back flowed out out everywhere.
    Another fuel system problem is if you open the fuel door and become distracted, and return 30 mins later to fill your fuel tank, the emissions system stays on and closes the filling throat because too much vapor extracted over 30 mins can damage this emmissions control cavity so Toyota created a timer to close the the fuel fill throat. Your vehicle must be returned for service by towe truck unless you have enough fuel to drive to your local Toyota Dealership, and may not be covered by your warranty. Please be aware of these things before you make one of these mistakes.
    And when it is towed, your hybrid is all wheel drive and must have all four wheels off the ground on a flat bed truck! Never have it towed since the electric motors will heat up and over charge the battery when the hybrid engine computer is off will damage the motor and battery causing excessive damage and a potential for fire or explosion. Even if pulled behind a motor home is not recommended and not covered in your hand book.

    • @HoodSlappersOfficial
      @HoodSlappersOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks so much for your comment and for watching our review. It all depends on the vehicle. It seems the Japanese brands like Honda and Toyota are getting hit pretty hard right now. Toyotas process is basically to create an order, and wait for Toyota Canada to fulfill the order. Our advice is get the order number of your car from your dealer. That way you know that your car has been ordered and there won’t be any sneaky switches. Second, ask the dealer to update you when there is a build date, a build complete date, and when the vehicle officially has a VIN. 9 to 12 months is possible, however some people cancel their orders and that could bring you even closer. You never know when you might get that call saying someone that someone else cancelled, and if you would like their car. At the end of the day, it’s a great vehicle and you will love it. The wait will be worth it in the end.
      We hope this helps. We appreciate you saying hello.

    I respectfully disagree with your analogy. So the Corolla sedan is that nerdy skinny kid and the Corolla Cross SUV is the buff handsome kid that the skinny kid turns into after hitting the gym? There's a false assumption there that SUVs are superior to sedans. I would choose the Corolla sedan over the Corolla Cross because the lighter curb weight and lower center of gravity of sedans make them much more fun to drive and have better fuel economy.

    • @HoodSlappersOfficial
      @HoodSlappersOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Excellent point. Corollas are not meant to be fast. Neither is the Corolla Cross. It’s slow compared to a faster car and that’s not a fair comparison. In its segment, the Corolla Cross is perfectly fine. Is it slower than a RAV4, yes. But the HRV is slower than the CRV, and the Taos is slower than the Tiguan. The Corolla Cross gives you the power you need.

      It doesn’t take long for a vehicle to look dated these days. It seems there are so many changes to vehicles that if you don’t change SOMETHING after a year, it becomes dull. Either way, the Corolla Cross is still pretty good.

    if you Google '' 0-60 toyota cross '' you will find results of 9.2 secs.
    The hybrid version which is out in Asia ( some are only about 145 hp in hybrid) but with a 195 hp version for north america is supposed to reach 0-60 mph in the 8-8.2 secs range.
    So for the base gas version in north america, the 0-60 of 9.2 seconds is about average for a small compact sedan or suv with modest horsepower of 170-185. Really, some vehicles may hit 8.5 secs but will you really notice a half second in quickness?
    Having said that, i have a hunch toyota may up the base gas engine another 10-15 hp but more importantly bring up that 150 ft/lbs of torque to 170-180 or so. Either by offering a a slightly bigger displacement or a mild turbo onto the current 2.0L engine.
    OR, toyota may do nothing , hoping your need for speed will make you either by the hybrid or spend more money and buy a rav4.

    • @HoodSlappersOfficial

      Toyota could do what Honda did with the HR-V. Run an engine that people say has no power and then release the next generation answering the call of slightly more power.
