  • The 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross LE AWD ($32,580 CAD as specced, ~$29,465 USD as specced) is an all-new crossover with added space and ride height over a normal Corolla. It also has optional all wheel drive and comes standard with a 2.0 L 169 horsepower engine mated to Toyota’s Direct Shift CVT and its capable of 0-60 mph in nearly 10 seconds. But just how well does the Corolla Cross fit in as a daily driver? And is it worth springing for the all wheel drive trim? Watch to find out what the guys think! We hope you enjoy the episode. To all the “I’m Canadian and don’t need all wheel drive” commenters…I call bull pucky. You know when that blizzard dumps five feet of snow on your town and the plows are all trying to clear the main roads as best they can but they won’t get to yours until next month and you suddenly have that urge for a bowl of Tom Yum soup (or some other equally necessary emergency like your wife going into labour) that is why you need all wheel drive. I used to think FWD with good winters was good enough until I drove my fathers Subaru Legacy around during one of those storms. (My father’s legacy driving my father’s Legacy?) With the one you drive carefully and hope you don’t get stuck…with the other you go looking for the icy hills and deep snow.

This car’s been in my country since 2020, it’s super popular. Much more popular than the sedan Corolla in fact, because sedans are considered luxury cars and thus have a higher tax. Like around $2k cheaper than the sedan. And since the hybrid came out I have rarely seen one that isn’t hybrid. Surprised how Toyota didn’t bring this car to the US first, SUVs and crossovers are your market lol.

I just want to touch on a comment that I saw on another video of yours. This review is very much appreciated. As a car and driving "enthusiast" your performance car reviews are my personal favorites, but not everyone is in the market for a sports car or they don't have the money (maybe both) so videos like these with economy cars and sub 30K cars, crossovers, (boring cars if you will) are the reviews that really matter for the everyday driver/consumer. May be not the most thrilling content for you guys to put out but there's definitely value in it.

About those window issues…turns out it’s not just limited to the Corolla Cross.
I own a 2020 Toyota RAV4 Limited here in Toronto, and I too had issues with the windows in the winter AND beyond! At one point in the summer of 2021, my front driver’s side window got stuck halfway down. I couldn’t bring it back up, or push it back down. So, I took it to the dealership I got it from, and turns out that I am one of a few people who got a RAV4 with a not-so-great window scissor mechanism thing (I don’t remember the actual name, but that’s what they said). They’re aware of the issue, and have had a couple of people come forward about it. So, they repaired it under warranty - took them over 1 month to get it fixed. They set me up with a rental for over a month (paid for by Toyota as this is a warranty repair), and coincidentally, the 2020 Corolla LE I was given had the same problem, so did the 2021 RAV4 LE I was provided after swapping out the Corolla because of its issue. They should really do something about this!
No problems with my windows since the repair though! Loving my RAV4 otherwise (though with the way gas prices are right now, I wish I waited 12 months for a Hybrid (yes - my dealership and others in the GTA at the time of purchase said there was a 12 month wait for a Hybrid RAV4, XSE and above)).

Crossovers of this size are really popular here in Finland, most popular being probably Nissan Quasqai (I really have no idea why, since it’s actually poorly made). There’s also models in this category from VW (VW, Skoda and Seat), french manufacturers, Mazda CX-30 and so on. I think this new Corolla Cross might get really popular here since overall I think Toyota is the most popular brand here and it has large dealer network and of course is well known for it’s reliability. I would propably choose this or Mazda CX-30 myself.

I believe the app for the remote start is by subscription. You can always start the car with the key fob though.

Owned this cross for few weeks. Two small issues want to point out.
    1) armrest can’t extend . It is not good for shorter driver
    2) the wireless phone slot is too big, phone can’t hold there for wireless charging as phone keeps move when making left or right turns.

Hey why did the windows stop working in cold weather? Is it the track mechanisms and the type of grease? I'm much more interested in this than the actual crossover thing.

The remote start subscription is only for the mobile app. You can still remote start the car with the key fob without the subscription.

The Corolla Cross and RAV4 are like the Mazda CX-5 and the CX-50, two of those are completely superfluous.

i have the corolla cross with 2.0 engine. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 47 MPG. i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2500rpm when accelerating and hyper mill when ever possible. its a different kind of fun squeezing for MPG.

This is for someone who says "I just wanna sit higher up" and doesn't want a Corolla and can't afford the Rav4. This car makes sense to me. Although, I'd rather take the Mazda CX-30 which is a better car in every aspect for the same money.

I went the RAV4 route for Ella, my sixteen year old. I got the larger vehicle that will hopefully serve her faithfully for many years in the LE trim for cheap (luckily before the market went bonkers last year). Plus, it’s not nice… because a sixteen year old doesn’t deserve a loaded anything, even if it’s a Corolla Cross 😉👍🏻
