The 2022 Corolla Cross Is The Best Corolla, But Is It The Best Small CUV?

  • With plenty of standard active safety content, inexpensive AWD and soon an optional hybrid system, and a sticker price in reaching distance of the sedan and hatchback, I wouldn't be surprised if the Corolla Cross soon becomes the best selling Corolla in America.

FYI: Europe used to have a minivan version of the Corolla called the Corolla Verso. So it's not the first time they used the corolla name on something that isn't a sedan or hatchback. They may not have been mechanically related though.

Best selling doesn't mean best. I can't agree that some weird lifted thing is ever going to be better than its direct car cousin. They simply do not drive as well, especially at the cheap end. A hatchback provides more practicality than 75-80% of people need on an everyday basis. How on earth is this better than the hatch? It has the same functionality and worse driving dynamics. Everyday people don't need more than five or six inches of ground clearance. People got around in snow just fine in sedans but I admit I don't deal with that myself. Instead I have long dirt or gravel driveways but still no worries about obstacles. It cannot drive better than the hatchback, so how is this better than it, except for the people that need AWD and ground clearance, who probably aren't considering this anyway?
