    Bring back the old 2.0 pinto engines. You could replace the cam belt with a 10mm and a 13mm. Even if it broke as they were non interference. Plenty of room and takes about 30 minutes!
    Everything is over complicated these days!

    • @markbrennan4693
      @markbrennan4693 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Agree with you. They did have a bit of a problem with the cam. oil spray bars getting blocked , but still great engine. No excuse for the fact a 2 litre Pinto made 100 bhp same as the basic 1.0 ecoboost. Motor bikes have been making massive power from a 1000 cc engine for years without issues. Ford and most makers are just the same as fridges and washing machines, limited life span.

      Re: oil pressure gauge. Do miss this as (had one on capri laser) you could see it drop over time and go back up after a filter and oil change. So if you had one on an ecoboost you could do some diagnostics if problems were building

    Great job Baz, did my boys car the other month and didnt enjoy it!. We didnt have a torque multiplier so did the crank bolt upto 300NM plus 90deg as per the Haynes manual. I think 300NM is probably enough, that extra 90deg makes it seem like something is gonna break.

    I’m planning on getting mine done, 96,600 miles. I was planning on it anyway then last week the clutch was replaced. I must say though that although I was unsure about the wet belt when I first bought a Fiesta with this engine I’ve not had any problems with that new or this nearly new car. I cannot now afford a new or nearly new now but once the job is done then, provided I continue to have it correctly serviced, I’m sure I will get many more thousand miles from this engine.

    It would almost be better to have an aftermarket solution where there is an oil pan with a large access drain that you could stick a pick into to clean the oil pick up. It won't solve the belt fragmentation issue but it will at least allow the customer to prevent the pickup tube from clogging up.

    Great video Baz, these wet belts are just a pain! Haven't done the Ford one yet but recently did a 2019 Vauxhall Crossland X 1.2 petrol engine (the PSA marked up as Citroen) apart from some of the geography around the timing case end (that Ford on in your video gives better access for a bit more work, swings and roundabouts eh!) The sump on the PSA engine is a pressed steel and mine was on for life, god knows what with, nearly destroyed it getting it off, got one off ebay. Interesting on the Ford that you didn't have to take the camshaft gear wheels off, the PSA one you do, (think this is from 2018 on, earlier ones might be different?). That crankshaft bolt was 50N + 180deg so tight!
    If you do the PSA engine watch out for the poor crankshaft locking arrangement. The locking kit bits for the camshaft are really good but the flywheel locking tool is a pin about 6 or 7mm dia and doesn't go into a proper hole, it is like a raised folded steel piece which you can see through an aperture, very dodgy indeed. This is the only lock for the crankshaft. I was concerned that the pin would jump out when exerting real torque on the crankshaft pulley bolt so I made a secondary tool that pressed on the back of the provided tool and the additional one provides direct horizontal support. Let me know if you have an opinion on this or have experienced it.
    I have a Ford wet belt to do and your video has been most valuable in preparation. Thank you so much.

      Definitely do an oil change every 5 - 6k mikes. Use only Castrol Magnatex. 5w/20w ford Fords and a new filter. Do an oil change now, that's not a lot of mileage, so the car will have sat about for some time, the oil will have drained to the sump between drives. Most does normally, but a very thin layer takes a couple of days to run to the sump Meaning each start will take a few seconds for oil to get round all of the engine

    Anyone know what a garage would charge "just" to drop the sump to inspect the belt and oil pickup? Is that a reasonable precaution at say 80,000 miles?

    I kinda get the idea of wet belt, though I don't think benefits are big. But one thing I absolutely can't understand. Why didn't they make casing like in sleds etc? I mean why didn't they design it so, that it would be separate enclosure that has it's own oil if using oiled belt is mandatory.

  • @CanMan125_

    Idk if this is true but someone who “does heavy duty” at Ford (a guy on the ecoboost facebook page) says when you take off the exhaust, the studs tend to snap and if they do, you will need a new turbo. That doesn’t sound right to me. Does that sound right? Lol

    • @gbarton461
      @gbarton461 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The top right stud 90% of the time snaps but all you do is remove the snapped stud and put a new one in no need for a new turbo at all. Sounds like a

    Serves Ford right for designing these POS engines like this, now they're all being recalled.
    Even a lot of 90's cars you could replace the timing belt in under 2 hours without taking the sump off or any of the accessories or engine mounts or any of that crap.
