Know you know Baz, and we all do it, but for those watching, consider some specs when drilling above head height, a trip to A&E to get swarf out your eye is even less fun than for stitches, ask me how I know 😂

And if you ever need an MRI scan get an X-ray first. Swarf will rip your eyes apart in an MRI.

Your garage should sub contract from the local Ford Main Dealers jobs like this.
As you do them on a regular basis you are becoming an expert on them.

Had a bimmer in today for work - I've serviced a lot of cars, never seen an oil filter coated with a solid, toffee consistency layer of hardened oil, 5mm thick, all over the filter. Took a screwdriver to dig down into it to get to even see the filter paper. Zero oil was passing through that filter. Nada. Dropped the "oil" & it was the consistency of tapioca. All 3 liters of it.
Going by the drain plug, the filter housing & just general nouse, I reckon that this car had never had an oil change since new. 140k km on the clock. Service book all stamped up to date nice & purty... Brakes were in no better state.
A lot of garages out there pulling peoples plums IMO, Baz - they get the bills, but not the work done. You will know this yourself.

Great job Baz, about time we saw one that needed doing😁. Camshafts and lifters all good confirmed by the Singer Standard Aural Test, sometimes we use a mouse's heartbeat as a reference when the sewing machine is out for calibration😆😆. And the oil pressure light went out instantly, good call on the new pump. Your customer just got away with that!

I think the extended service intervals of 18000 miles between oil changes does not help with the wet belts. I use the Ford labelled Castrol 5w20 every 12 months and I am only doing between 4000 - 5000 miles a year but mainly short journeys. Hopefully this will delay the inevitable failure as long as possible.

I have a fiesta 1.0L ecoboost. It is about 10 years old and has done just over 73k miles. It has never had a wet belt replacement but it has also been properly looked after. All services done on time, only ever taken directly to Ford for servicing. Only ever had the officially recommended oil used on it. Even for small things such as new heat shields, the work has been done only at Ford garages.
What are the chances my belt is bad? I could not afford to get a replacement but that also means I couldn't afford to repair if it is bad enough to go 'boom'...

Baz, there's also a mesh strainer in the "Oil Pressure Control Solenoid" that can block with wet belt debris. This solenoid is on the rear of the engine block, beside the plug where the crank timing pin screws in. There's a Dayco instruction video on TH-cam "Garage Wire" Channel showing this solenoid being removed to check and clean the mesh strainer.

Clearly with the light going out so quickly all is well but interested in your perspective.

Not true, if engine goes bang, i have seen many forum posts of people that tried to claim the extended warranty. Ford required the print out of every service including all parts used, must be a ford filter and the requirement for the ford castrol magnetech oil This must be written on the print-out. A simple stamp in the service book isn't enough. A second owner would not have this info and if it had been serviced at an independent they may not have recorded or used the correct oil brand.
