      as cool as it would be, we can’t forget that (as far as i’m aware) Brian is a full-time doctor and most likely does not have any gaps in his schedule where he could preplan a time slot to go on the Pat McAfee show. it would be so cool to have actual doctors giving these types of reports on sports television from now on. so much misinformation gets spread by reporters who don’t know what they’re talking about in a medical sense.

      That’s the thing about surgeries, especially knee surgeries, sometimes the surgeon does everything right and your body just doesn’t react how it’s supposed to, for example, I tore my ACL, Lateral Meniscus, and Medial Meniscus when I was 14, had surgery to repair all 3, and my medial meniscus didn’t take to the staples in my knee and ended up tearing again. Not anyone’s fault, just the way my body reacted.

    • @mikhailboldt3417
      @mikhailboldt3417 ปีที่แล้ว

      @DOAxGmoneyxx now that you mention it you know why people don’t like athletes kneeling or making political statements in game? Because those who support such actions only support it for certain points of view
      Drew Brees one of the most decorated quarterbacks in the NFLs history a pillar of NO and someone who helped that city rebuild about Katrina. He doesn’t mention trump Biden liberal conservative simply says I don’t like players kneeling during the anthem I think it’s wrong to demonstrate while our country is being honored. That’s it’s that’s all. The type of reaction you saw you’d think the guy did the Hitler salute. People freaking out screaming yelling I can’t play with him he’s divisive. Really? Kaepernick can wear a shirt that honors Fidel Castro Lebron and others can say cops are nazi serial killers who indiscriminately shoot people for only their skin colors and drew Brees is divisive?
      Look at Curt Schilling Aaron Rodgers Hershel Walker Tim Tebow Nick Bosa Colby Covington and others who express conservative libertarian or right leaning points of view. Where’s their “right to speak” why are they not allowed to be “more than an athlete”. That’s the problem people have with that point of view.
      You don’t want athletes to speak you don’t want athletes to be heard you want people who agree with the liberal point of view in America to be heard. Now that’s your right this is a free country but please don’t say this is about freedom and people who play sports being more than what they do on the court field etc. anytime an athlete speaks even slightly out of line from the mainstream woke agenda suddenly they are attacked in ways that are seriously disturbing.
      Either let everyone speak or no one speak. Either any athlete can say whatever is on their mind without fear of reprisal or just say no one talks. You don’t get to be the arbiter of truth and honesty in America. We’re always told we want a discussion about race about guns about abortion etc yet whenever a view is expressed that’s against the cultural accepted “truth” instead of debating that person it’s cancel destroy ruin Dox their address deplatform fire them. That’s not a dialogue that’s a dictatorship.
      Pick a side my man. Pick a side. Either every athlete right left center gets to speak out or no one does. You don’t have the right to say only abc people who believe xyz get to share their views and everyone else can sit down and shut up. Everyone rightfully hates Putin but the left acts a lot like him. Destroying dissent attempting to fire imprison or ruin political speech they don’t like banning politicians who are “radical”. How about everyone is heard and the people can decide what they like and whom they support. Or are you afraid in an even battle of ideas you’ll lose? That’s why you need big brother fb IG YT to delete everyone who doesn’t trumpet your horn?
      Think about it bro and get back to me

      @mikhailboldt3417 ปีที่แล้ว

      @DOAxGmoneyxx we didn’t get womens suffrage civil rights legislation the voting rights act ending slavery etc by shoving it down peoples throats. You don’t just go to a group of people and say you think wrong I think right I’m good you’re evil now STFU and be quiet forever while we take over. You want peace and harmony and all of us singing kumbaya? That’s not the way to do it broski.
      It’s the reason Iraq the invasion Afghanistan too have not succeeded like they could have. We went in killed terrorists liberated the people and just hoped things would be better. You don’t change a Millenium of customs and ideology by dropping a few bombs and jailing a few killers. You have to change hearts and minds you have to go into the communities
      Same thing applies here. You want change in America? You want to affect real things for the future? Then have a REAL dialogue where you LISTEN to the other side. Instead of calling everyone u don’t like a racist a bigot a nazi and the devil incarnate how about the left oh idk talk to people engage in a discussion and let the public decide. You’re not gonna impose an agenda on 350 million people by screaming at them accusing them of supporting genocide and banning them whenever they speak out of turn. Change happens when people talk debate and change public opinion in your favor. We didn’t achieve all the beautiful progress over the years by dictating and imposing we had discussions lively dialogue and worked out differences. You don’t get to anoint yourself God judge your enemies as evil and just erase them from existence. Either listen learn and be willing to be wrong or admit you want mob rule and move on. You don’t get to say you support democracy and free speech while assailing everyone to the right of Stalin as a nutcase.

MY first doctor was the head surgeon in my area and had been for 30 years , but it would appear that he was also very set in his ways and like to do things how her learned them instead of moving on with the times . I have had a total of 4 surgeries on my right foot/ankle now , and most of it stems from the fact that the first surgery ended up, really compromising my ankle joint .

    This happened to me personally. I tore my ACL playing college football and the result of the surgery did not go as well as I hoped. My knee felt unstable for the next 5 years. I made it on to a couple NFL teams’ practice squads coming out of college. Going into my second year my knee gave out on me during a non-contract drill. The teams knew my knee was compromised before the incident due to my prior physicals. Therefore, the teams always put some sort of claws in my contracts, so when it gave out on me they weren’t responsible.
    Truth is, players just want to play and teams just want to win so I can see OBJ and his team being fully aware of this injury and allowing him to play on it in spite of it all!

A couple didn’t but through no fault of my surgeons. How your body heals, your rehab, pain tolerance and following your doctor’s after surgery ‘rules’ all play a role in successful surgerical outcomes. They all come up with their own ways of doing the same job, something I'm sure changes over the 1000's of knees they see. The better ones would rise to the top, or in this case - the NFL. This is where OBJ's surgeons may have differed. However, this idea that the 'medical team' and/or surgeon is thankful it re-ruptured is ludicrous!

I hate it when people start saying that a person is trash at their job just because of a mistake, they could do a thousand things right and then one thing wrong that happens to be a bit high profile and all of a sudden they are a hack. I've got people at my company who act this exact same way. It's an awful way to think and they just end up loosing good people based on how they treat them.

    Good for you! As a general thing, the reliability of the media is in serious decline in the last decade or so. This particular sports writer is not someone I hold in particularly high high esteem.
    OBJ has been much in the news lately as to whether or not the Rams wish to retain him for next season. If they didn’t want to keep him, wouldn’t it be in their best interest to talk about how wonderful the second surgery was, and that he will be “better than ever?“. That would be “building the market“, wouldn’t it?
    The ACL, itself, does not have a robust internal blood supply, and sometimes ligaments don’t heal for that reason or heal poorly.

    Doesn’t matter how great the surgeon is to some degree either. You are at increased risk for re-tearing the ACL that was repaired. AND it’s not like Odell is just walking around the local grocery store. He is engaging in high risk activity at the highest athletic level humanly possible. Sometimes things just happen and it’s nobody’s fault. Injuries happen. Suck it up and act like an adult. Move on with your life without attempting to ruin someone’s reputation.

    Players often play through serious injuries in the interest of the team so it's possible the team knew but didn't want to fix it because that would put him out of commission for another 8, 9 months. I don't think teams are above that, but then they're not actually hoping that it tears, but that they can get away with it not tearing. Until he retires and the bill goes to his personal insurance and not the team's bill. .
    Also, as stated, there are so many factors. It probably wasn't a complete failure, like one of the ends is literally unmoored, or else surgery would have been necessarily. So for those outcomes in between total failure and total success it could be the surgeon, the surgeon's PT team, the player's PT team, the player...

    Almost no NFL player is playing at optimal health at that point in the season, yet they all play-which is standard for their line of work and not "crazy"at all. Not to mention the "risk" totally payed off. Obj was lights out in the post season. Also, how should the Rams have addressed the knee initially? Sign a guy to a new contract just to shut him down and make him have surgery? IDK this video was weird. Very informative from the medical side not practical at all from there professional sports side. Just my opinion.

    • @jditrev
      @jditrev 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He’s saying if they saw his knee wasn’t structurally sound then why pass him on the physical. All players have to pass a physical before a and signing or trade is official. I’m a Rams fan but if they knew the knee was possibly compromised during his physical but allowed him to play anyway, that doesn’t look good. What’s weird is whoever talked to Rapoport trying to throw the first surgeon under the bus. That can damage a doctor’s reputation unnecessarily

    • @mjbond7159
      @mjbond7159 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jditrev I don't understand what point you're trying to make. They didn't say the knee was structurally unsound, they said they had "concerns". What do you do if you have concerns about a guys health? You give him a contract full of invectives based on production(like literally every player with an injury history). That's what the Rams did and obj played awesome. The risk was worth the tests for everyone

    This could also very well be a marketing tactic from OBJ's agent. OBJ's a free agent right now after all and so blaming his 2nd ACL tear on the first surgery going wrong would definitely help raise confidence in teams looking to sign him. It also works to dispel the myth going around that his body is getting old (he's had an ankle injury, 2 torn ACL's and a sports hernia in his career). I'm a big fan of OBJ and I wish him the best, but this story seems kinda fishy.

    I wonder how much is on the actual surgery and how much on the aftercare. I am sure OBJ did the work he was told to do ... but what if he overdid the work thinking it would help him get back sooner. Or, perhaps he reinjured the knee while with Cleveland and non one knew it until the trade. I think it should also be noted that, if the Rams knew, then shouldn't the Browns have known since he had to be cleared by team doctors who would have also given him an MRI. Makes you wonder how far back the 'conspiracy' goes ...

    I'm absolutely not trying to contradict you, but big NFL fans know Dr. James Andrews. I believe for a time he with the team I root for, the Seahawks and doing surgeries for many teams players. He's very well known to big NFL fans as much as say a role player on a team. You always know they can dice you up and make a big impact but casual fans(the majority I'd think) don't know those players. Dr. Andrews has saved many careers and had record turnaround back to field. Whether taking them overseas for platelet or stem cell therapy or just being a master of his craft. I definitely wish they would have gave him the respect he deserves. Maybe Odell didn't follow his rehab schedule properly or came back to early after being traded(or signing, I don't recall). The thing is once your traded your old team Doctor and surgeon may check in but it's usually with the new teams medical staff. I know from experience, limited but still. I mean everyone screws up once in a while but Dr. Andrews has a fantastic record. I remember him always running on the field no matter which team had an injured player and announcers, play by play guys saying the player is in great hands. Pat should have known that. If this is on anyone, it's Odell and The Rams.

  • @chrisolson3240
    @chrisolson3240 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do we (or they) know that OBJ didn't follow rehab instructions? How about addressing his reoccurring injury, that may make any prior surgery look like a bad surgery, when infact it wasn't. There's too many variables to just blame one surgeon or one surgery, when the object of the surgery is being abused daily.

  • @taz1417

  • @MikeHonchoHisself
    @MikeHonchoHisself 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Another thing to consider is that Andrews is pretty old now. He’s 79 years old. Even when he operated on Odell, he was well into his late 70s. He may have been one of the best Surgeons in his prime. But once you are past 75 you have to think that surgeon is reaching an age where he’s nearing retirement. Surgeons aren’t athletes but imo you still need a certain amount of hand eye coordination to be able to perform surgeries well. By the time you are 75 you just aren’t as sharp as you were when you were even in your 50’s and 60s.
