- This is a very new dish thats has made its way across the whole of the UK, but obviously started the neighbouring country of Ireland. Now you can't go into any major city in the UK and find this, especially since this was invented very recently, and I know the story I say at the start of where and when might not be true, but it's the only one I can finds thats cited in a paper, if anyone knows any different please just let me know. If you're wondering what it taste like, then its a mixture of salt and pepper chips and chicken and normally people pour curry sauce over the top of it, yeah, I know, awesome right! Some places will add paprika, others onion salt and celery salt, we just decided to show you the one I'm more familiar with, and yes its in a try and not a bag haha.

Lived abroad for a while - first thing I did after getting in at Dublin airport when I came back was go for a spice bag - if anything my cravings undersold how good it would be while I was away! Pure heaven!

It's a salt n pepper chips portion with crispy chicken.
Last night my salt and pepper mix was ; pork ribs, chicken, kingprawn and wings. I also had a portion of 3 types of dumplings..
My mam and sisters will love this. We moved to the UK from Dublin about 5 years ago. They already love your chanel this will blow their mind haha
hahah amazing :)
Where I live there's one restaurant doing this as a munchy box. They only accept cash though and I can't be arsed getting cash but it's so good when I can.
Full of MSG🤪
I really love your mum. She really reminds me of my mum, and i love how happy and smiley she is. Hope i can visit your restaurant one day!

Greetings from Ireland. I've been watching your channel for years now, its fantastic!! I tried to order your book numerous times but it was always out of stock. I see that you don't deliver to Ireland/International anymore, which is disappointing as I always wanted your amazing book to try your recipes...😢😢😢 I will continue to follow both of you on your amazing journey.... ❤❤❤

Thank you so much for your reply...I will do as advised. I look forward to viewing your future video with your mum. ❤
That looks banging... definitely gonna have a go at that 👌🖒
Hi my two favourite Chinese people, especially mum Choo. You’ll like this. In 1967 at the age of 15 I was bunking off school and was introduced to to wonderful pleasure of proper Chinese food. I had the set meal of chicken and sweetcorn soup, sweet and sour pork balls, chicken fried rice and a spring roll. Followed by lychee with ice cream and Chinese tea. It was wonderful. The best bit! It cost 4shillings and 6pence. In modern money that’s 22 pence roughly. I don’t think I’ve got althzeimers but I could be wrong. Hoping to get to Porlock later in the year. I’ll be along to spend money at your one of your establishments. Can you match that price haha. Keep well both of you
We moved from porlock last year we’re in minehead now :) and thanks for your kind words
Legends! Never had one on a takeaway even though I live in Ireland, gotta try making it now instead!

Same!!! But i always have homwcooked meals..wud have had somthing simialar..we dont order takeway alot

Haha amazing, it looks great! I used to do exactly this but in the oven instead of a deep fryer, piling up tasty things on chips - I called it Superchips! I was born / grew up in Indonesia and Singapore, so had to find some way of bringing SEA flavours into London cuisine. Long live Superchips!
Omg! That looks amazing 🤩

The inclusion of carrot was genius! Bravo Mamasan
Turned out perfect, crowd favourite 😊
OMG that looks so good, first time I've heard of this dish.

Looks fecking delicious. Like EVERYTHING i have made from your first book. My family goes potty for chow mein, stewed mushrooms and the salt and pepper chicken. Keep it up Chin and youtube mum.

Would be great if you took us to the Asian supermarket in a future upload so you can discuss some key ingredients. I always get lost when I go and am too afraid to ask
Chinese takeaway food bearly anything in a Chinese supermarket, we already had that idea even before we started the channel 7 years ago :)
Watching this just now has made me really hungry.
Not even sorry 😂
Really excellent video. I personally like to use fresh chillies rather than flakes but other than that this looks spot on. Love from Dublin.
Fresh chillies are fair better agreed
Oh wow, that looks amazing.
I'm surprised by the length of the Spring Roll! It's longer than a toddler
My favourite takeaway combo is a 'Dirty Curry' - Jil Juen Chicken over Singapore fried rice with curry sauce poured over the top! I'm amazed it isn't standard on every menu!
😊😊😊
If you eat a lot like me then it serves 1 😂😂😂
I can relate! Great video as always
😂😂😂
Cantonese chippy in Gorleston, Norfolk, 30 years ago, was making hand-cut steak-chips, fried in palm-oil. Untouchably good! 😊
Not Mr chips was it?
@@startempest7085 Can't remember. Was just after the railway-bridge, where the 'new' roundabout is on the A12. They were as crunchy as tempura on the outside and still had stodge in the middle! 😎
Love a spicebag, im veggie so I get tofu ones. There's definitely sugar added to some of them as you said. Also v common to swap the curry sauce for peanut satay. 10/10 a perfect takeaway.
Nice! Also be carful as satay can have shrimp paste in it
@ZiangsFoodWorkshop yes, I always check the allergens thank you!
Always a pleasure to watch you two bringing these recipes to us.
Just a quick question ..
Would this recipe work with pork instead of chicken?
Yes but make sure you use a fatty cut other wise it can be stringy
@@ZiangsFoodWorkshop
Thanks for the reply.
I've always had great success using your cooking advice and recipes.
I'm going to give it a go!
😀
Love a good irish spice bag I get peking sauce on the side to dip instead of curry it's delishious,
Sounds great!
omg that's why Chinese chips taste so nice. This looks lovely. Also, I've just realised yeah sometimes I can taste the sugar in a spice bag, but I think I don't mind. I like both with and without apparently...
I like both to be fair, I just prefer it withoutn :)
Got this in my local Chinese way before 2010. As Irish as I am. 🏴. Love your channel though. 👌
absolut pleasure watching you two cook. edits not too heavy, music not too loud, nonsense has no place in your vids it seems, great information does, tho (egg white only + explanation why egg white only. ). thats fucking good content... and fucking fun to watch... keep up the amazing work. much love
Thank you ☺️
Om nom nom! You HAVE to do some sort of blog for the awards - even if you can't film inside! And well done!
We will try :)
Great video mate :) I was just wondering though will we get to see the traditional sweet and sour recipe soon?
Yeah but we have a list of recipes to get through before that
@@ZiangsFoodWorkshop Okay thanks didn't want to sound picky just remembered it from the other day
@@ZiangsFoodWorkshop Oh also bro I tried your sweet and sour recipe mixed with Khoan vongs it was delicious I like the touch of the extra ginger and whole spices with the orange squash it works very well together best sauce I made its like a mix of both but tastes amazing
Dang, I could have me some of that... 👌😘 A beef version might do too... Greets from Western Australia! 😄
😊😊
Oh yum! Looks lush. I have a question…..can I ask what measuring spoons you have that have the dessert spoon on. Or what is the measurement in tablespoons is a dessert spoon. Thank you
Ziang's, making us hungry 1 video at a time :P

One of the best hang over meals, one of the best drunken meals and one of the best sober meals too lol. Love S+P

My cousins had a fish and chip shop back in the 80's and for many years after and they would always make their own chips but all chips were blanched and then placed in a tray for someone to order before being refried till cooked. My personnal preference for a hangover cure is really greasy bacon and eggs, otherwise I go get the old potato scollops from up the road they work a treat but I am going to try this looks great.
Nice!!!
That looks so nice! Takeaways in the UK really need to start doing this.
Many do, I get asked for it loads
Oh this’ll be good! 😊
😊😊😊
Most small chippers in Ireland have both options of chip. You can order homemade or regular. Can’t beat a good homemade chip.
Nice
oh wow, this looks soooo tasty I wanna try it now.
You should!
@@ZiangsFoodWorkshop my local Chinese only does chips in chilli, salt and pepper so I'll have to make do with that, as I'm not cooking at the mo.

Like the honesty, if your like me you'll eat it all if your normal it will serve 4 😂😂 ill double the recipe for me and the Mrs then 👍
😂😂😊
Some places when they make them "sweet" will add a sort of hot honey syrup. Also there's some hot peppers on, most of the time. And the chicken does tend to be a little more browned.
But this is a great example of what a spice bag is.
It’s normally golden syrup if it’s not sugar and as we have 1.4 million followers over all socials, we get tagged in these 100s of times a day and I can say that mostly the chicken is even more pale than ours, which means they are only using starch, if it’s browner they’d pan fried it and added a drop dark soy in the wok, but also, the light me have wash out some of the colour.
That looks tasty.
Can you please hurry up and get that curry sauce back in stock as I need to order 500 million kilos of it 😂😂😂
😂😂😂 trying our best ❤️❤️
Custard powder, do you mean "Corn flour"?
That looks super tasty! I'm definitely going to add a wee bit rice too.
Gratitude for the recipe ✨👊❤️
No custard powder, it’s use for colour,l and sweetnes
Beautiful. Salt and pepper chips
😊😊
I have heard great things about the spice bag, the best ever, cannot be found anywhere else. Meanwhile, in the UK we call this salt & pepper chips/chicken, and it has been around for ages.
Sort off they mixed the 2 together as a dish, both are made up and mean nothing 😂
Its a take on the Chinese special curry I love when I go back to the UK.... with chips or fried rice...or BOTH 😊
Got to give that a go.
Blanching was the norm for chips when I was tiny, back in the 1960s.
