I, and a lot of my friends, feel that Harley Davidson made a mistake when they eliminated the Dyna from its product line. One of the best motorcycles they had ever manufactured. Everyone still raves about the FXR! I have rode Knuckleheads, own a Panhead, rode Shovelheads, own an Evo FXDS, 2014 Low Rider and a 2014 Street Glide. Loved them all but the Dynas are hard to beat.
I said the same thing until I rode a new softail. Personally, I forgot the dyna exists practically in comparison. I really love them, but to each their own. I also love older school more traditional stuff so I appreciate your perspective.
My 01DX has 100k miles on it, original. Also been running a R+R 124 on it for the last 13k. 140hp/140tq at the rear. Owned it since 02, and it's only spent 1 night outdoors......love it every day.
Dynas are the bomb diggity! Owned an 08 Street Bob, a '12 Super Glide, and currently have an 07 Low Rider! Best platform! HD made a grave mistake in getting rid of this family! Good video fellas!
Nice review of the early Dyna models. I did all my stunts, jumps, and wheelies on dirt bikes when I was young. Good times with my buddies! I bought a 6 month old StreetGlide back in 2012 and still ride it. It's great for longer rides, it'll take me anywhere I want to go in comfort. I'm an old man now and decided that I wanted a lighter, carbureated bike for short rides around town. I bought a super clean, stock, 2000 model FXDWG WideGlide with 22,000 miles on it. No more wheelies for me. Keep up the good work guys.
Great video. To the point and very informative. I like them small and with carbs. I've had early model Dynas and now I ride an 92 FXR. Fantastic bikes! 39mm for life
I like my 03 FXD because it is a lot lighter than the later Dynas. I took a lot of stuff off, covers on stuff like the front wheel the starter rear foot pegs, run a lithium battery, Stainless Bassani exhaust Etc. Stainless motor mounts. I also like that it is a relatively short stroke vs the later engines. 4 in, stroke and almost 4 in bore for 95 in. Dark Horse crank, timken bearing, h beam rods, Mondello heads, Wood cams . It hauls ass
I have a true early Dyna,it's a '95 FXDS Conv., with 80ci EVO. 5 speed, dual disc front brakes, 28* rake.. basically a Super Glide with taller rear shocks, and quick detach windshield and saddlebags..really cool mostly original bike..
This was a great overview of the history of the Dyna guys. You pour out a lot of Dyna information in 14 and a half minutes. I learned a lot and Im sure im going to have to relisten to this video again just to take it all in.
AWESOME PRODUCTS , AWESOME CREW ! WHEN YOU GUYS GET TOGETHER WITH 2 LANE GUYS ALWAYS ENTERTAINING AND INSPIRES ALL OF US ON FUN , FOOD AND TRAVEL IDEAS !
Awesome content between each Dyna guys. 5yrs ago I didn't know what HD I wanted just knew I needed a HD. Ended up with the 2005 FXD last of the 5spd 1st of the injected I absolutely hands down love it. Cam tensioners have been done just clicked over 30 thousand miles.
Im riding a 05-FXDCI and I absolutely love it. Bought it from Original owner , meticulous maintenance 15k on the odometer Garage kept absolutely-Cherry 🍒 😊
Would you recommend a old school Dyna like the 2005 model you have to a not really mechanically inclined individual? It would be my first bike. Just love that pre 2006 look.
My dyna is a 2001 fxdwg wideglide. Came stock with 16” spoked rear wheel and 130 tyre and the front wheel being a 21”. Rake stock is 32 degrees. The 88 motor ran good for 180000 km and was still going well but I decided to upgrade the engine with an S&S stroker crank and it’s now a 103. Bike has done 212000 km now and is great fun to ride 😊
@@georgejenkins9921 yes ok. Some say the frame neck is 32 degrees and the other 2 degrees is in the triple trees making a total of 34 degrees. I know the late model fxdwg had a bigger rake of 36 I think 🤔
With an S&S 103 your 2001 must really haul ass! I have a Stage I 2000 FXDWG WideGlide and really like riding it. It feels like a dirt bike compared to my StreetGlide.
Love my 07 FXDB. My hats off to you guys who can ride year round, not so patiently waiting for the snow to melt in Alberta Canada. Another couple weeks likely… Love the vids, can’t wait to see some more riding and tacos. Ride safe fellas.
I LOVE Dynas. I have a 2013 Street Bob and a 2016 Wide-Glide. I did stage one aftermarket to both. My Wide-Glide is so smooth but they're both amazing 😊
I have a 1999 FXDX I bought new off the showroom floor. Hotrodded 95" with S&S carb and big Andrews gear driven cams (never have to worry about cam tensioners ever again). No issues at all with the bike.
I picked up a 2000 fxdx in like new condition with 30,000 on it, only mods done were all to the engine all mods that you would want to do if you had one regardless, all cosmetics were all stock, 1 owner of the bike for 23 years and this bike always starts doesn't leak any oil, is a great bike for me as I don't like riding on highways with all the physco's on there trying to kill you, I use this bike up an down the coast an love riding it every time. I am planning on ordering a bunch of thrashing parts to build this bike how I want it cause I don't see myself ever wanting to sell it at this point
I've owned just about every iteration of Dyna H-D has ever made and hands down the 2000-2005 is by far the best Dyna range out there. When they made the frame bigger, the rear swing arm wider and put a mid glide front end on it... that ruined the handling and stability of that bike. Way more prone to wobbling! yes the earlier Dyna's had cam chain tensioner issues, but they're cheap fix and the run out on the earlier Dyna's are way better than the later years, especially if they were Timken bearing motors. I currently roll an '02 FXDX T-Sport and I'd rather ride that any day of the week over my late model Harleys.
@@vtwinpower1903 the frame, swing arm and it still has a narrow glide front end. ‘06 switched to a mid glide front end, a cast wider swing arm wider rear tire.
@@jackedhorse would recommend a pre 2006 Dyna for a first bike to somebody not so mechanically inclined like myself? I absolutely love the old school look. Thats true but just as the cam tensioners is a easy fix, so is the wobbling on the late model dynas. Just install sputhe stabilizer links to both mounts and youre good to go. So both models are great, its just a matter of preference. Ones lighter, ones heavier, ones skinnier, ones beefier.
I found a 10 edition FXDB here in Scotland with legit under 5K dry miles on it ...👊 Had to get as it's literally not passed break in . Video to follow 👊👊👊
Just picked up my 98 wide glide. Excited to be able to rack up miles without worrying about the cam hahaha. Not a speed demon but hell.... its a cruiser.
I just bought my buddy's 2000 FXDX for 2k. Now that is the friend hookup price but the bike was stolen but recovered and it needs a little work but I love wrenching on bikes and it will be on the road in no time with minimal cash into it

Great video guys! love the content you guys produce and your products. I actually own both early and late Dynas and a bagger. I have a 99 FXDX I have converted to look like a t sport and a 09 fxd . Both bikes are great and have two different feels though . I have put in a lot more work into the 99 ....I don't need tools Haha i have 51,000 miles and she has only left me stranded once. When i am not on my glide there is no doubt I'm pulling out the FXDX.
I'm a Softail guy but the 103 Street Bob is one of my fave's and my fave and the best Dyna of 'em all is the Dyna Low Rider S 110; those Softails and Dyna S models rip!
I have a '99 FXDL 88. 32° fork rake. The twin disc front works with one finger. Fat boy solid rear wheel. Forward controls. Carb is CV40. Fueling 525 with Vance and Hines straight shots is loud with quiet pipes. 25k miles and still got paper labels inside the fenders. I would never put my front engine mount through a wheelie. 5 speed is plenty. Get a workshop manual and invest in the tools.
Fantastic comparison, I believe the wide glide and low rider have the same angle of rake on the early bikes, a tad bit more than the regular dx. The other bikes in the lineup should be same from what I’ve heard.
I nearly bought a new FXDB back in 2015 but went for a 2000 FXDX as I wanted a simple carb bike. It’s standard other than mini apes and Harrison six pot brakes. It cruises great at 80mph, I ride it in the rain and abuse it alot and it always starts and runs great. The FXDX isn’t very popular over here even though it suits our roads better than other Harleys. I wouldn’t mind replacing it with an FXDLS though!
A BIG G'DAY from Down Under 🇦🇺 I bought the "17 FXDB Dyna Streetbob 103 Twincam was the last of the real Harley Davidson.... I've got now 85,000km & hasn't missed a beat, service every 5,000km, it's still standard but have Bassani Sweeper exhaust, Screaming Eagle Heavy Breather 💪 But I did one simple thing that I advice everyone to do, especially for all M8's & that's to get yourself a Fueling Vented dipstick ❗❗❗ Helps to keep the crankcase pressure at the correct amount & not pushing out the head breather bolts & back into the combustion chamber ❗ 💪♥️ Fueling Parts ♥️💪 Living The F🤪KING Dream ❗ Safe travels 🙏♥️🐾🐾🇦🇺
I have had a 96/1340 dyna ,an 03 88 a 08 fatbob & a 013 b 96 cub .the evo had cam bearing problems but was carb yo-yo could play with & was the lightest to throw around .the o3 😊was crap first of the new frames but with a evo front end ,the 08 fat bob was great but a bit heavy stearing .the 013 I’ve had 11 years now & it’s the pick of them all .
I have a 2000 wide glide 88ci don't have to worry about constantly wrenching on it. I take it all over the country never been stranded. I'd rather have a carb I can rebuild it myself without a fancy electronic gizmo to change my idle or mixture adjustment
I also picked up a 98 FXD last summer. Little disappointed to see the lack of aftermarket love for those years, especially in the used parts market. Fun ride though
I got a 98 FXDL last August and your so right. So disappointing to find aftermarket parts for them. They have no kits or anything for the motor just carb, clutch and stator Harley don’t make any own part witch sucks
love the video, first time here. really love my 08 fxdf. but bout to make some changes to it. she's basically stock with forward controls, a stage 1, and a fp-3 w LAF thumpers. any budget friendly suggestions? I'd love to konw waht you think. thanks and ride hard and get home safe
Dont sell the street bob though, its still one of the best harleys imo. And the wobbling on the late model dynas is a easy fix. Just install the sputhe stabilizer links to both motor mounts.
01-02 Dyna are the best! They had the upgraded roller bearing on the drive cam on the cam plate. 99-00 had a ball bearing that had lots of failures. And the 01-02 still had the dual timken bearings on the crank shaft. They went to a roller bearing in 03 and it's just not as durable. So if you're gonna be high revving a Dyna for stunting you want an 01 or 02.
Good to know, I have an FXD 2001. Almost 60k without any major issues, definitely upgrading and having it looked over for any problem that occur. Replaced Front and Rear Motor mounts and put Legend Revo-A's on rear and Progressive springs on front! Upgraded Cam Tensioner w/SE kit.
What is the advantage of the timken bearing that the early dynas have and the late ones don’t? Would having the bearings change any thing about feel, character, or ride of the bike ?
@@gunner799 they're a tapered roller bearing. Which are stronger than the ball bearings they switched to. So if you have a post 02 Dyna and want to do a motor build, it's highly suggested to swap out the bearings to tapered roller. The ball bearings don't hold up to big torque.
99-05 Dynas are the absolute best ones you can buy. Yes you do have to tinker and spend more to get it where it needs to be, but it handles and rides so much better than the late model dynas. The late models are way too wide, too heavy and raked out too far. Theres also quite a big weight difference. 620lbs vs 670 on the late models. The 6 speeds are also not a HUGE improvement over the 5 speeds. I have an 01 DX and it's the best Dyna by far. The Carb is stupid easy to work on and you don't have to pay the $450+ for the tuner like the late models. The 88" with cams and headwork is all you need. Its fast, punchy and just all around fun. Rides almost like a naked bike. If you end up with the DX, you get the fully adjustable suspension and it sits much higher so the cornering clearance is amazing. I can't tell you how many Bagger guys, dyna guys and sportster guys go ape shit over my bike. I have let a few ride it and they all have asked me if I would sell it. Even my brother was a die hard sport bike guy. He took the DX out for about 30 mins and came back with the biggest grin. He has since had 4 different harleys and is STILL looking for a DX. If you find a nice one with less than 20k miles for a reasonable price, jump on it.
I did today 5000k miles all stock 02 fxdx for $4000 I didn’t even haggle with the older guy who owned it. It has not been ridden much last ten years but it’s mint.
Just bought a 2009 street bob that's completely stock with13k miles. Trying to decide what I want to do to it. What kind of fairing is that on the 2013?
The later bikes had bigger engines which might negate some of that "better gas mileage" from the six-speed. A carbureted bike it's not going to run much different when you change elevations unless it's an extreme change like going up a BIG mountain. Most people who travel cross country on a carbureted bike including myself aren't going to notice any difference in tune with the different elevations. Yes, the cam chain issue must be addressed immediately when you purchase a twin cam 88. Dyna lowrider and Wide Glide have more rake than the rest.
When he was talking about carburetor Vs fuel injection, what is the whole thing about fuel injection “acclimating” and not “running super rich or lean”. Like what are the implications of this in terms of the ride/feel/character of the bike?
What is the advantage of the timken bearing that the early dynas have and the late ones don’t? Would having these bearings change any thing about the feel, character, and ride of the bike?
Dyna is best model Harley Davidson.Simply for all thigs.Touring,stunt,sportride.I prefer late model but all models have some intristing.Cheers from Czech republik.
@THRASHIN what size shocks do you have on the later one? did true track fit on rear for the shock, mine seems to be maxed out at 12.5" because of the rear TT?
My buddy is looking for his first bike. Sent me a 2005 dyna lowrider good miles, This kinda helps convince him to get on two wheels already with a cool dyna 🤘🏽
I have a 2005 super glide, my only mods are a full freedom, performance exhaust system, and a cobra 2000 fuel enhancer, and the bike is an absolute beast and a blast to ride great handling and good power
My friend just picked up an 04 with 800 miles. All original. It’s 74 of 75 made for ford dealerships. He rode it on the hard ass 20 y/o tires and a truck pulled out in front of him and he dumped the bike at like 60mph. Bike had minor damage due to the crash bar saving it.
I'm doing what you're doing, using Dyna FXDX for local trips an I use my 88' GW for longer rides. I seem to be riding GW more an working more on the HD!? 88' are known for needing work on timing cam chain adjusters replacement, before tensioner pads break apart an destroy motor!
awesome video, my first HD was a fat bob 114 then I got an 06 Dyna FXDLI and oh man. I don’t know how to express the difference but I you guys know 56 and rolling on that throttle…
Wouldn't say the newer bike is more reliable... more electronics that could cause problems especially the EFI sys.... all other is basically the same, that pushrod twin hasn't changed until just recently. The newer bikes are certainly more comfortable for sure.... Love my 2003 FXDL... that's why you always need to have 2 Harley's!! 😆
Dude, I just got a diamond in the rough. An older guy in my town, offered to sell me his 2006 dyna low rider about a year ago, I checked out the bike and it was clean but told him I wasn’t interested right now. About 9 months later I bump into him again, and offered to sell me the bike again. This time I go check over the bike and entertain his offer. Told me $5k and it was mine. I told him give me a little bit to grab the cash and he wanted to write up the paperwork for the sell. I couldn’t believe it, I had to make the deal. When I came back he had everything running on the bike and hook me up with a trailer to go with the bike too!! Dude said I know the deal I’m giving you I know what the bike’s worth. Long story short I made out with a steal. 2006 dyna low rider with 3500 miles
Question for the comment section. Would you trade an m8 Softail for a dyna? I have a 2020 Slim but I kinda have a hard on for a 2011 Super Glide from my dealer.
I 'm about to buy a 2009 dyna, the best I found , but is not black, more like a light blue. There is another not so clean dyna , everything blacked like rims engine..too much, not cool. The blue one is a nice canvas but what about the color, it seems that to be a club style cool bike has to be black....I don't know, any advise?
So I must have an early 2005 dyna because mine has an 88ci with 39mm forks. I didn't know in 2005 they had the 96ci. Interesting, good to know for when I'm getting parts! Great video guys
@@garryhorton9105 yeah that's what I thought too. I'm a little confused why they said in the video that a 2005 is a "late model" rather than an "early model"

Always been a Dyna guy, currently running a 2012 Switchback and my dad has my ‘05 Low Rider.
I love my 2016 dyna sb so much I bought another.. sold two sportsters for funding.. no regrets
Really really great video, you guys should do a similar video on the dyna death wobble
Fantastic comparison, I believe the wide glide and low rider have the same angle of rake on the early bikes, a tad bit more than the regular dx. The other bikes in the lineup should be same from what I’ve heard.
Good Ole Iron. Take care those wild horses and they’ll last forever not to mention the appreciation in value!👍
I’ve got a 2004 low rider, fuel injected. Mostly stock with less than 5k miles. I def need to start riding more!
A BIG G'DAY from Down Under 🇦🇺
I bought the "17 FXDB Dyna Streetbob 103 Twincam was the last of the real Harley Davidson.... I've got now 85,000km & hasn't missed a beat, service every 5,000km, it's still standard but have Bassani Sweeper exhaust, Screaming Eagle Heavy Breather 💪
But I did one simple thing that I advice everyone to do, especially for all M8's & that's to get yourself a Fueling Vented dipstick ❗❗❗
Helps to keep the crankcase pressure at the correct amount & not pushing out the head breather bolts & back into the combustion chamber ❗
💪♥️ Fueling Parts ♥️💪
Living The F🤪KING Dream ❗
Safe travels 🙏♥️🐾🐾🇦🇺
I love my 98 FXD. Just need more companies making parts for the early stuff. Mine was a good find, one owner low miles.
That was the 1st generation of dyna. Good find
@@neveragain9380 everything is “obsolete “
@@bowlingmatt1 I know I hate it. It’s bs and when you do find a part it’s so over priced used
The Lowrider and Wideglide models of both the older and newer Dynas were raked out more. The older was 32° and the newer was 34°
The 02 FXDX family has a adjustable front end unlike a standard 39mm front end.
love the video, first time here. really love my 08 fxdf. but bout to make some changes to it. she's basically stock with forward controls, a stage 1, and a fp-3 w LAF thumpers. any budget friendly suggestions? I'd love to konw waht you think. thanks and ride hard and get home safe
On sight !!! Dyna gang !! 💥💥💥🫡🫡🗽🗽
I'm riding a 2013 Street Bob modded here and there, and after watching this, I'm kinda interested for a FXDX too. Nice video btw.
Dont sell the street bob though, its still one of the best harleys imo. And the wobbling on the late model dynas is a easy fix. Just install the sputhe stabilizer links to both motor mounts.
So will a 99 seat fit an 05 frame? I’ve been having a horrible time trying to find seats for my 05
04-05 have a different seat sadly! you can hit up 2lane and they can get you dialed in!
Do you know if the 103 is run hot? Do they come with an oil cooler on them like the touring models?
Which year has the best sound with Jekyll & Hyde Exhaust?
Is a dyna a good first bike? I just want to cruise but sportsters are too small for me.
A Dyna would be a great first bike!
My 09' fxd clubstyle is my sport touring all-in-one bike...not as good for stunting, but I ride alot of highway miles🤘🛵love the content dudes!
Man a 2002 t sport is everyone’s dream
2002 fxdx is the ultimate combination of all the right parts
Just bought a 2009 street bob that's completely stock with13k miles. Trying to decide what I want to do to it. What kind of fairing is that on the 2013?
I still ride my FXDX as my main bike. No issues. You should not have leakage, It's not an FXR(I have one).
haha!! your right! but still takes more maintenance when you get a older used bike.
Hell yea! Thanks for watching 🔥
Love the vid, been looking on your website where can I buy that maroon t shirt?
That one has been discontinued sadly! We do have a newer maroon shirt called the Deco though!
I'm looking forward to this one. I have a 2010 Street Bob, and I love it.
I tried tagging y’all in an angels Tijuana taco video. They have EVERYTHING y’all will want
Dyna is best model Harley Davidson.Simply for all thigs.Touring,stunt,sportride.I prefer late model but all models have some intristing.Cheers from Czech republik.
Great video! I love my 14 Low Rider!
Careful with the 04-05s. Harder to find some parts. They’re “in-between” year bikes.
05 is the way to go. Change or keep an eye on the cam chain tensioner and ride out. 🤙🦅
I have a 2005 super glide, my only mods are a full freedom, performance exhaust system, and a cobra 2000 fuel enhancer, and the bike is an absolute beast and a blast to ride great handling and good power
Would love to see thing but for the road glide. New vs semi older! Sending good vibes from AZ
I spy a 3D printed air cleaner cover. Just go ahead and start turning those out!!! I’ll take a twice cut T⚡️C in black for $69.95 please!
I'm doing what you're doing, using Dyna FXDX for local trips an I use my 88' GW for longer rides. I seem to be riding GW more an working more on the HD!? 88' are known for needing work on timing cam chain adjusters replacement, before tensioner pads break apart an destroy motor!
I love my 2003 120” Low Rider
I have a question, Why a Seat from a 98 or other year can not fit on a 91-95 model?
The mounting style changed in '96 to '03. You could make it work with some garage engineering but might be time consuming & feel a little strange!
awesome video, my first HD was a fat bob 114 then I got an 06 Dyna FXDLI and oh man. I don’t know how to express the difference but I you guys know 56 and rolling on that throttle…
my respects to Dyna bros, you guys are living legends
I love my 2007Fxdb with the 96inch!!!!
Which stabilizer / motor mount is the best?
Both of my Motor mounts on FXD 01 were needing replaced at 55k, probably should have been replace sooner 45k.
Dyna 4ever 🔥
I have the ugly duckling wide glide but it’s clubbed out and I love it.
Are those expedition bags?
You find any Dyna for a reasonable price you better consider it.
Price of early models just shot threw the roof after this 😂, guess I’m stuck on my sporty for even longer
Do it. You won’t regret it, The dyna has so much more soul than an M8
Yes because the dynas is collectible for now on
@@hanzgruber7154 I test rode a M8 and it was too smooth and felt and sounded like a snowmobile.
What about the wd glyd, 21 Front wheel , had more rake, wanted the smoother ride as I ran 198 miles a day for work,
I 'm about to buy a 2009 dyna, the best I found , but is not black, more like a light blue. There is another not so clean dyna , everything blacked like rims engine..too much, not cool. The blue one is a nice canvas but what about the color, it seems that to be a club style cool bike has to be black....I don't know, any advise?
We like any color to be honest! There's too many black bike out there now, it's nice to see some color every once and a while!
@@THRASHIN finally went for the 2012 street bob, all black:) Now planning on giving it a club style like yours
So I must have an early 2005 dyna because mine has an 88ci with 39mm forks. I didn't know in 2005 they had the 96ci. Interesting, good to know for when I'm getting parts! Great video guys
I’m pretty sure the 96 “ didn’t come out till the 2007 model run.
@@garryhorton9105 yeah that's what I thought too. I'm a little confused why they said in the video that a 2005 is a "late model" rather than an "early model"
04-05 came optioned with fuel injection, still old style
@@bestekustoms ah okay so the only reason they consider it late model is because of fuel injection
2006 DYNA WAS SOLD AS AN 88 CU INCH MOTOR WITH THE FIRST HARLEY 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION ALSO GOING TO A 17 INCH REAR WHEEL. 2007 SAW THE 96 CUBIC INCH MOTOR AND 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION ON ALL THEIR BIG TWIN PLATFORM.
Alright... so what's the deal with the 2001 trans? I haven't seen anything in the comments with 2001 vs 2002 trans.
I manufacture tapered roller bearings at Timken. I’m not sure about every application of the bearings we make but it would be cool to know I make them for Harley Davidson!
How’d you know that’s a decision I’m trying to make currently…hell ya brother
Great video! I have both...
I got a 03 fxd and I love it
