Here is my experience. I went on a ride with about 8 other guys. I had an Ultra, they had various models, but no baggers. They were all making fun of me for having an old man bike. We stopped at a cool little store in the mountains that sold collectables. Several of the guys bought stuff there. They all asked me if I would put their purchases in my trunk. Since they had been so persistent in giving me a hard time, I told them to stick it up their a$$. Spend your hard earned money on what you like, but for me, you cannot beat an Ultra.
The Harley baggers will always live on as they are the zenith motorcycle produced by Harley Davidson. If you want uncompromising comfort with all the benefits of a touring motorcycle, and in some models... raw unbridled performance, you will have a Harley bagger. Dismal thought to even contemplate the absence of Harley baggers. Ride on!👍
I'm 68 years old 5'7" 160 lbs. Have 54 years of riding and always 0n a stripped down, minimalist bobber style HD, Love the latest M8 Lowrider ST's performance, reduced weight, mono shock suspension, etc. Love just riding with no bags, windshield, fairing or any other extra accessories ...
As someone who in the last 3 years, has gone from a Low Rider S to a Fat Bob to a Road Glide, I find this interesting. I kept trying to make my softails into touring bikes. Once I rode an actual touring bike, for me, there was no going back.
This is me. I had a Sportster and then a 2017 (old Softail) Heritage. I tried to make both into touring bikes. Now I'm riding a Street Glide. I'd never go back to riding without a faring. Also, I've spent $40 to 45k total getting my SG dialed in. It has everything. There is no reason for me to trade ever.

I own a 92 FXLR, a 17 RK, a 70 BSA Lighting, and a 95 Sportster 883XL, which I will add some bags on the existing brackets. I am fortunate enough to choose which bike I ride, for where I am going.
A lot of people like myself don't move on to a touring HD and never go back. We just add a tourer to the rest of our collection for a different purpose. I ride my SG for comfort, distance rides, ability to carrying stuff, combining rides with running errands, two up riding and then i can get my adrenelin fix on my 200 hp 400 lb Ducati with about 2 square inchs of storage space or vintage musclebike i"ve owned for over 40 years. I bought the SG new, the Ducati used with 3400 miles, and my GS musclebike plus all the extensive modificationons on all of the bikes and have less than the cost of a new touring CVO in all 3.
I think if have the capacity to have multiple bikes in the stable, that's the move - If I had to have only one bike for all purposes though, it would be the ST hands down
I own a Honda 1200 I have done a 600 miles trip on it. It came down to it was under 10k it looks good and i like the way it rides. You should buy a bike you like to ride.
I’m 6’4” and was dead set on a Low Rider ST…until a 10 mile test ride caused excruciating hip pain for 5 days afterward. Ended up going with a RGST but still lust after the looks of the Low Rider every time I walk into the dealership.

You nailed it. I'm a smaller guy and I just bought a SG. I just can't seem to get comfortable on it because of the weight. I think the ST might be for me. Came from a Deluxe.
So Dan who owns O'Toole's Harley Davidson is around that height, and he's done a few things to make it work with him - He just did a distance trip heading west and said the bike performed excellently, I can refer you to him if you want to ask him what he did
Great piece! I'm about a month away from hitting my 70th trip around the sun and have never owned a bagger. Not that I haven't looked at them and appreciate what they offer, but I love the flexibility that my '18 Sport Glide gives me. I can ride long distance if I want or make short trips around town or to and from work. She's quick and maneuverable and as I become more seasoned (or get older as some would say), I also appreciate the relatively lighter weight of the bike. I haven't done a lot of work on my ride: an LA Fairing Co El Diablo fairing, upgraded HD grips, 4" pull back risers, Memphis Shades hand guards, and a detachable HD sissy bar/luggage rack combo, and Kuryakyn floorboards. Keep up the great work!
I'm continued to be surprised with how many people have wrote into this video praising the Sport Glide, didn't realize that bike had such a following - Good to hear man, wishing you a Happy Birthday if we don't hear from you between now and then!
I think people are intimidated with the size and weight of the streetglide and road glide etc. but you learn a few maneuvers and it is no different than a smaller bike.
In terms of handling a bike, 100% - But at the end of the day, if I can cut weight off the bike and still feasibly tour on it, best believe I will - Thanks for checking it out!
I find harley touring bikes easier to maneuver around than smaller bikes. Easier than older homda cb bikes like the 750 or goldwings of any year. Same goes for honda shadows or vulcans
I´m from Germany and I have a 1993 FLHS for 30 years now. It had been customized and has been my touring bike all the years. Years ago I bought a 100th Anniversary Wide Glide, but only for short rides and not for touring. But two months ago, I purchased a 2019 Sport Glide FLSB, which I think performs quite similar to the Low Rider ST: lighter, faster, better to handle and absolutely perfect for touring. I know I will never sell my old FLHS lady, but I think, I will take the Sport Glide for the next big tour through the Alps. :) So, after all: yes, you are right! Harley made a step to combine touring with more performance.
I’m 6’2 235 lbs and I did a test ride on a low rider ST and it was just too small. For shorter guys it’s the perfect bike but a bagger is way more comfortable for guys built like me. I can really stretch out on my road glide plus the speakers are sick
The Low Rider St looks great. The 117 up grade with 100 lbs of fat trimmed is great. The three issues I have are: 1) The lack of storage space (my computer and its extras) being the main problem. The ST bags just aren't big enough for what I need. 2) My RG has has some add-ons (maybe not the biggest motor or the highest price pipes and bars) that would cost $$$ to add to a new bike. 3) Most important reason why I'll stay with my RG: IT IS PAID OFF....NO MONTHLY BIKE PAYMENTS!!!
So some people are swapping out the ST bags for extended bagger bags or Leatherpros - In my situation because when I do the bike trips I always pack a large sissy bar bag, the size of the ST bags are actually perfect, and that's talking for 7000+ mile bike trips
I added a quick release tour pack to mine because of my work laptop situation. I found the side bags too small by time you add work stuff, jackets, etc. Cant beat a bike being paid off though!
Haven't ridden in 20 years and now want to tour. At 61 the weight of the baggers was bumming me out. I knew it wasn't if I dropped it but when. I didn't realize Harely had done this. I got to catch up. This looks like the way to go. Thanks for the info.
We just did a trip across the USA from California back to Toronto. I was on a bagger and my business partner was on a low rider ST and that thing absolutely crushed it, the only difference was the gas mileage, I’d be able to go a bit longer before filling up.
My Sportster 1200 is set up like this ! I swapped my belt out for chain drive an said see ya on the hwy to the road glide with bags , turn down pipes , and a fwd facing intake and rejet for proper tune, and airbags with compressor, custom cool kat one piece wheels, & a screaming eagle clutch.. it’s a great bike. I’m 6 feet and did 800 miles in Az. On it in a weekend sat-sun and had a great time. I feel like as long as you have vision you can do ALOT with any line of Harley as long as time -- tons of time , and money you can customize just about any of em to your needs .
Last year i sold my Victory bagger for a LRST and i gotta say its probably the nicest out of the box HD I've ever ridden. Rode from Ct to the milwaukee 120th anniversary event. Loved it, the LR is perfectly capable for long distance. 1k a day is very possible.

This ain't just a thing in America, by the way. Asian here, dad's a Road King owner and was considering a Low Rider ST because the RK was getting heavy for him (and Harley Manila had run out of Street Bobs at the time). Ended up buying a secondhand Slim to save money, but he was *reeaaally* tempted until we saw that ad.
I made the switch. Have road Road Glide Customs/Specials for the last 12 years. For a lot of the reasons you highlighted in this video. I love my FXRST(El Diablo). Zero regrets about it. Faster, lighter, and sweet jesus the handling. Keep up the good work brother PMA all day
first i would like to say ride what you love, make it your what ever it is. I love true custom bikes and that to me for me is a chopper/bobber, that said my wife and I also have a hopped up Dyna and a street glide, Point is the stock street glide is as fast as the Dyna, and im not the only one to notice. it is in the gearing of the transmition. been riding for over 30 years i still LOVE sportys . . . last point ; many people felt there first bike should be a bagger. . .then heared about how great the dynas are , and a good many bagger riders felt they should try the smaller sexyer bike themselfs . . .NEVER let anothers opinion sway you from the one you love. . . yep stll got our XLs couse we love em.😊
I notice there are a lot of Harleys for sale in my area at prices unheard of a few short years ago. Prices are coming down for sportsters from 4000 to 7000 dollars with low mileage of under 10K. Many in like new condition. At the same time smaller bikes are going up in price. This doesn't make sense.
Great take on this subject bro! I’ve been saying it for years. Sport touring is where it’s heading with the amount of cost and especially the economy is looking like. People are just going to want a faster and cheaper option.

Dumped my Roadking for a Pan Am last November. Sure the king was a classy bike but the pan am is a beast that does everything well and just rips. oh and wheeling it around the garage and driveway is so much easier.
Not tons so far. I did do the NE motomarathon this October. Just over 2100 miles in less than a week. Been reliable so far. I do most my commuting on a honda monkey.
I sold my bagger FLHX and moved up. I'm 58 and got tired of driving an 850lb bike. I bought a Triumph Tiger 900 adventure bike and gave up on the silly dream of how cool I look driving a Harley. Nobody cares what you drive. I have had more fun driving an adventure bike than I ever had on my bagger. And, yes I did test ride a Low Rider ST in Laconia this year. Not arguing, ride whatever you like.
Agreed. I was in Maggie Valley this past week and was lusting after all the adventure bikes I saw in town and I own a Harley. I think ADV bikes just seem more practical and versatile. My wife was not as amused by the idea. Honestly, I like all kinds of bikes and I'm fine riding solo😂

I have a 16 road glide. I just recently bought a 23 lowrider s. I kept the road glide for the longer trips, but i grew up on dynas and love my lowrider s.
I bought a brand new FXRT in 1984. The MOCO produced a legitimate sport tourer way back when. It was a great machine, my gf and I put about 60k on it trekking all over Eastern Canada and New England. So, the idea isn't new but I think the market has changed enough to allow this bike sales success. I'm riding an Ultra bagger and Heritage. Depends on mood and destination which one gets out of the stable. Good content man, thanks

At the time it was a great bike, but like the shovels and pans of that time it was just another bike. I also had a 46 Knuckle at the time that I was having a great time with. I took a FLXR-S out for a week of riding and dragged knees on it... I've been a sport bike rider for decades, but I had a great time riding it... Now that Buell Super Cruiser... that thing looks like the bike Harley should be making.
Not in California, Road Glides, Street Glides and Road Kings are top dawgs. I’ve only saw people buying the Lowrider ST for a 2nd bike but never downgrade from a bagger. Reason why we are evolving to the performance bagger trend. Don’t hate brother😂😂😂

@@FXDLSBrooklyn for the moment I have mounted a Heritage shock to have more comfort, a Sport Glide seat, a pair of "End Game" pegs from HD and 5.5" Drag Specialities risers for better ergonomics, a pair of Twin Slash for the sound and also the aesthetic, a license plate support with built-in led light from Thunderbike for a slimmer rear end, a big solo leather bag on the left with a sissy bar and a lugage rack from HD to take my things with me when I'm away for several days and also a cruise control . Next step will be a Road Warrior fairing for winter and wind protection. I feel fine with this bike even it is a bit sportier for my style of riding, I will perhaps go with a Street Bob next year, which a more cool bike...
Have you tried the Indian challenger? If you wanna go faster on a bagger. As well as it has the inverted front forks and mono rear. And many other features. I personally chose the Indian challenger over the Low rider ST as I felt I got more for my dollar.
I always had to ride a bagger because I told my camper trailer behind it and I need the bigger brake system and I use it for going around the country. One trip was from Beverly Hills Florida to Fairbanks, Alaska, camping and all the Providence parks and United States parks I’m 5 foot eight 140 pounds I wish I had a smaller bike but I had to lower the back into Inches so I can get my feet on the ground with the bagger
From RG to Lowrider St. I’m 6’1 at 210 lbs and also a disabled veteran, the weight difference and me no longer able to do long trips the bike made sense. Enough room for my work essentials and gear.
I've got 03 Electra glide nice bike,just a little slow for my taste. So I punched the cylinders.30 over. Gives the 88" a little more umph. Should've built the 96" head's I think I'd be happier with that build. So I guess what I'm saying is this. We are always on the quest for something a little different for our riding pleasure. I had a street glide for 3 years, loved it, but decided that i wanted "smaller". After going back to sport bike and a dyna, then older softail... and after STRONGLY considering a Lowrider ST I've found myself back on a '24 road glide for couple reasons. As mentioned you hardly go back, once you get used to the ride comfort, stereo/gadgets, and a feel for the touring models it seems to be hard to change. I was looking new, so the cost from ST to Road Glide was around ~$3000 which is a lot, but getting the Navigation, stereo and familiarity (for me) made it the better buy.
At 6’2” and 220 pounds I will always take my bagger over anything else for actually putting on touring miles but for most any other riding that I do I pull out my Softail. When I tour it’s almost always riding 2 up, so both the passenger ( my wife) and I need the comfort that only a bagger can give on those long rides.
Yeah for the two up situation, I can definitely see that - However, I've gotten away with doing multiple two up bike trips on my dyna and ST using a Saddlemen SDC Pro and Touring Step Up
This is so funny that I came across this video. I treaded my 2020 road glide special to a 2023 low rider s. I did this 3 weeks ago. And 3 of those things are why I did it. Lighter cheaper payment and cost and faster. A lot of my buddies say I am stupid for doing it. But I don’t regret it.

I was on tour in Europe for 10 days and it was hard work on my Street Glide in the wet Alps after spinal surgery. Took her Sport Glide for a run as it had been sat for a few weeks and could not believe the difference. So traded the Street Glide Special and now have my 2023 Low Rider ST
Been at this Harley thing since 1971 , I've had at least one ever since , at the ripe old age of 22 I got my first bagger , a new 1978 FLH , and promptly broke it in on a trip from Norfolk Va to San Diego Ca by way of Alaska .. In 1984 I got my first Tour Glide and I have been a TG/RG guy ever since .. I came real close to getting a 1986 FXRT , but didnt want to get rid of the TG . My friend the dealer gave it to me for a few days and I loved it .. Always had a soft spot for the Super Glide/Low Rider/Wide Glides and the idea of a FX based tourer has always been in the back of my mind as a great idea . The FXRT was ahead of it's time .. I would seriously consider the new Low Rider and bags , but I'd have to do some adjustments to make it right .. I've ridden a few and they just don't fit me .. Lighter is a big thing with birthdays behind me ..
Couldn't agree with you more on the FXRT being ahead of its time - My FXR is my daily rider, and not a mile doesn't go by that I don't love that damn bike - That Alaska trip sounds sick
Didn't sell my baggers but did add a Lowrider ST to the garage this year. Everything you said about weight , spot on. Increasing speed through horsepower is expensive but dropping weight can net the same result. What surprised me most was doing a 685 mile day on her this summer and it didn't suck. Even with the stock seat. Not going to give up my Street Glide for touring. I did 5665 miles this summer on a 10 day trip with 7 riding days. That's an average of 800 a day and for that the LRST would punish you. For a weekend trip up PCH, game on!
I hear you - I guess I come from a world where I do the 800 average mile day trips on a dyna, so the Low Rider ST feels luxurious compared to that - I love them both though - It's good to hear you got that 700 mile day out of the ST, that's what's up
I'm a youthful and fit 60 year old and have a different twist, my 2022 FXLRS is the first HD I ever liked, it's in my opinion the Company's best ever motorcycle. I've put roughly 6000 miles through it since May 2023 touring on it all over Maine and the North East. I'm 6' tall and 210lbs and this LR is comfortable. I've dialed it in for me with Thrashin Supply footboards and bags a Warrior windshield and Cobra NH slip ons. I have the only Gunship Grey FXLRS in an area with hundreds of Street and Road Glides, get compliments and looks from older riders every day. The 117 in a sub 700 lb bike is enough for anyone. The power to weight ratio is everything. Loving mine.
Really glad to read this - I have heard a lot of people around your height claiming they are too tall to make that bike work, but sounds like you got it dialed in right ⚡️
I’m a fan of the classic and more barebones look. I ride a softail that I’ve made my own little tweaks to and I love it. I’ve rode the baggers and I won’t deny, they are comfortable. They are like riding a sofa on two wheels. If I ever get to a point that I can’t do a long trip on a softail frame, I’ll consider it, but for now, I’m sticking with the cruiser.
I won’t lie, I’ve debated trading down from my Road Glide ST to the LRST. Haven’t test rode the LRST but I had a LRS with a Memphis shades fairing prior to my road glide. Miss how lightweight it was, the CR480 cam made it stupid fast, and the lucky Dave’s 13 bar fit me so damn well.
@@FXDLSBrooklyn I got a Woods 22xe and a Fuel Moto RTX 2 into 1 that’s dyno tuned by Caliente Harley. It’s a great setup and I can’t complain at all on how it runs on the Road glide. This combo on a lighter bike would be even better though. I’m gonna shoot for next weekend to test ride.
I own a 2012 super glide with a 96 I’m 5’9 220 and i rode it to Kansas with ease I’ve had for 5 years and I don’t see myself growing out of it I’d say it’s perfect
So, people are figuring out that riding the heaviest bike with absolutely every feature you can think of is not really needed just to ride 10 miles to the bar? Its like buying a semi tractor just to get around town, who does that?
I traded in my sportster 1200 iron for a sport glide a few years back. Best decision I made. As far as handlebars go, I love the road glide handlebars, so I switched out the stock ones. Really comfortable ride now. I'm not leaning forward as much.
One thing that is stopping me from going to the lowrider is that it definitely seems like a single person touring option. I think in the interest of comfort for a riding partner, the touring options are still going to be your go-to. If you’re going long distance solo however, the ST looks like the best of both worlds.
I could see how someone would think that - I recently did multiple 2up moto camping trips with the old lady this summer, and they were all successful - However, if passenger comfort is your main priority, the bagger line is probably going to be the move
@@FXDLSBrooklyn Well, the stupid thing doesn't even come with a passenger seat or footpegs or even a functional windshield! It does have the same engine as the baggers, so by the time you've spent the money to correct all the deficiencies, it will be better than a bagger- lighter and faster.
I say, we need to get an "American Dyna CONservation Society" started, short ADCONS. These are the bikes we grew up with, the bikes we could afford and the bikes we did the majority of work on ourselves or with our pals.... Yeah, those were the days, the days we worked with wrenches and not Laptops to fix 'em! Long live the Dyna.
Had a 17 Street Bob for a few years. Traded the 17 for a 21 RG Special after my accident, and I haven't looked back since. The M8 moves when you have right combo of engine mods. Plus the HPI 2 into 1 pipe looks, so nice.
@@FXDLSBrooklyn to keep it all warranty friendly, it's a SE torque cam with a tune to match the cam and the pipe, paired with an Arlen Ness (RIP) high flow air cleaner. So my factory warranty is still happy, without fear of getting nickle and dimed to death while I ride like a bat of hell for the another year. Then high comp pistons, studs, and more Cu Inches!
Interesting. I’m 76 years old. I started with a sportster in the 1970s. My second bike was a big twin and it was ridged frame chopper. I was a chopper guy most of my life with a couple of Lowrider shovel heads thrown in there. I didn’t keep any of them very long. when heritage softail’s came along, that was my natural way to go as I was getting older. I went from there to a road king and finally a road glide. The road glide was my very first and only brand new bike. I really enjoyed the bike for touring but around town It was kind of a handful. I was about to turn 70. I sold that bike and got into Dyna’s. So far I have had five Dynas, all twin cams. I sold my last one about a year ago when I moved to Texas. I’m just finishing what may very well be my last motorcycle. It started out as of totaled 1988 Evo. I’m just finishing wiring right now. I’m back to a rigid Frame with a six over Springer. I’m back to choppers and that’s where I will be from here on out.
I could never afford a big bagger in the first place the Low Rider ST is a fantastic bike but still very expensive. I have an Iron 883 and I can do short distance touring if I want. I also own a Royal Enfield 350 Classic in the sand colour and it’s my main running bike at the moment. I don’t live in the US so the cost of a Harley here are higher than in the USA
On back roads its ok, its a great entry level bike or a good cost saver as a 2nd bike. The biggest advantage of the RE Classic is the value and the look of the bike. I have 5 units and use them to run a small business. They can be rented for a week end and we generally have no issues. The classic works best as a back road and simple week end tripper. Most of the clients don’t own a bike and are returning back to the hobby, enjoyed by everyone and the touring is fine if you’re not in a big hurry. The community riders group is growing and we have about 20 patrons who enjoy basic rides. Now there is a lot of new things in the pipeline the Harley X bikes and the triumph 400s as well so things may change at the end of the year. We wanted a simple bike, that looked retro and rode well, and was affordable and had a wide appeal.
I gave my son my 2001 Roadking which was my dream bike. I bought my subsequent dream HD for a 2006 Springer Classic. Different strokes for different folks. I love a Springer front end and not going with the crowd.
I keep trying to convince my vertically challenged friends to get away from the baggers and to hop on a soft tail- most of us ain’t going coast to coast every weekend and those soft tails are plenty for the type of rides majority of folks are doing… but what the hell do I know, maybe they will listen to you 😂😂😂 Great Vid.
I bought a 2023 street bob and I take it on long rides with no issues 👍🏻 I did buy a Harley clamp on windshield which made a big difference on long rides. But I love it!
My riding buddy went from a 2018 CVO street Glide, then bought a 2020 114 LRS, then bought a 2022 Low Rider ST El Diablo. The EL D gets the most riding, buddy is 67 years old.
When I looked at the Low Rider ST, I thought if I were a single rider, that would definitely be the bike for me. But since I ride 2-up with my wife, the best performance bike for us has been the Indian Pursuit. It's a heavy bike, but when throwing it into a curve it doesn't feel heavy at all. It feels like a big sportbike. I can certainly see the attraction to a sport-touring bike.
That's what's up - I am able to get away with a lot of two-up riding on the ST, but I have little to no experience with the pursuit, actually saw one on my block recently, looks like a great bike
@FXDLSBrooklyn It is. Actually, when I said riding 2-up, that included long distance touring. I could do a road trip on a Low Rider ST by myself. But the wife with me, more storage space would be required. Us guys can get by with just a few necessary things. The ladies, they know how to use every bit of storage space a big bagger has. LOL!!
When I want faster and lighter I jump on the Speed Triple, if I want to cruise two up or tour I ride my SG. When I want to just go back to just the basics of a motorcycle I kick over the Shovel, no one said you can only ride one type of bike. Oh, I almost forgot when I feel the urge to ride forest service or back country roads I jump on the mighty DR, I still love riding them all and will until the day comes I no longer can.
Sold my 2011 Street Glide CVO this spring and bought a 99 FXDX. The Glide was too big and bulky for my tastes, sold it after 18 months. I still have an 86 FXRD Grand Touring for my Supper Club nights and Fall Rides.
I love my 03 Screamin Eagle Deuce for the speed and ability to shove it into a corner like a sport bike and not be grinding the floorboards or exhaust. My wife rides so I'm solo and can get most places with a bag strapped on the back. Yet at 60 years old I'm not ashamed to stuff the bikes in a trailer either and ride the piss out of them when we get there.
There's nothing wrong with that - I personally never opt to trailer, but I also don't throw shade on people who do because I have a lot of friends that trailer and then rip hard
I decided to buy a Harley in March of 2022, and because I didn't want to spend as much as what a new car might cost, it involved having to choose between the Heritage Classic and the Road King. I sat on a Heritage and leaned it from side to side and was mildly surprised by how light it felt. Then I did the same on a Road King and was immediately intimidated by how quickly the weight came on when leaned ever so slightly, so I opted for the Heritage. Note that the Heritage is a good touring bike because it has a comfortable seat, cruise control, triple headlights, wind screen, floor boards and bags, and is 100 pounds lighter than the Road King, although that gets paired down to just 70 pounds after buying/installing an engine guard and saddlebag guards on the heritage (these items came standard on the Road King).
Hey this 76 year old rider got bagger fever back in 2008 when I traded up from a 2007 Dyna SE. My 2012 bagger is like riding my easy chair at this age...LOL! Enjoyed the video, comments, and agree completely and if I ever got a drink from the fountain of youth would do the same!
I bought my RG in '06. I was 41. I still have the same bike. I had no bags, I had leather bags, milk crates and back packs on the mc's I owned prior to the RG. The thing is, bikes are like shoes. You need more than one because you never know what you need. But...if I can only have one, it will be the RG. And, that is why I have the same bike for 17 years. Going faster? Why? How fast do you want to go. It will never be fast enough because you will out grow it.
Longtime viewer here I no longer own a Harley, but I still watch his channel and enjoy it. No One mention is that these touring bikes with these extreme temperatures in the summer being stuck in traffic that thing is like having a barbecue between your legs, I got rid of mine got on the Africa twin for me adventure bikes, are the way to go.
Nice! I'm not a Harley owner either but enjoyer of motovlog channels lol. For me the thing that's kept me from Harley is simply the prices. I've been riding a Triumph Speedmaster for the past 2 years that I found for only 11K with less than 500 miles when I found it. It's been a phenomenal commuter bike for me. The Africa twin is a solid bike! Adv bikes probably do have the best utility of all the biking categories, but I'm too vain to get one lol. I love the retro styled bikes too much, I reckon I'll get a second bike that's a scrambler to fit that taste
Man I have a few buddies who moved on to Africa Twins from the Dyna/Bagger world - Got to see the Africa Twin in person and throw a leg over it two weeks ago, and my oh my, is that an amazing bike 💥
Traded my Road Glide for a Heritage Special Rode that for a year and traded that on a 2022 Pan America. I absolutely love this machine. It does everything so very well. Tours, backroads the twisties, and commutes. Plus it has mucho power on tap. That being said my next big twin will be an early Dyna Low Rider or Wide Glide . Carbureted. No new big twins really appeal to me.
I've only road the Pan America once, and I very much enjoyed that bike - I feel like I need to do a bike trip with one of those one day - Congrats on the bike man!
I have been waiting for this bike for years. Built my street bob for touring. Tried a switchback. Then had a CVO ultra for 6 months. Too big, too bulky. My 23 ST is the best bike i have ever owned and that tops all the FXR's i have had as well. Good vid!
I don't know if I can go as far as to compare it to my FXR because that world just feels different in a way that you would expect for a bike that is three decades old - Curious to hear more about your time with the switchback
@@FXDLSBrooklyn totally agree with the timelessness of the FXR. I’m doing a frame up 93 right now and I’m sure it will be worlds better than my 84, 91, and 94s I’ve had in the past. Just all new suspension etc. but the switchback was cool. The idea was cool. Major convertible vibes. But that front end man. That heritage or touring style front end just killed the ride and the sport touring ideology for sure
over 48 years of riding, I have ridden' sportsters. FSXDs road kings and road glides. I currently have an Indian challenger with stage 2 upgrades. it hands exceptional. I do want to pick up another fxr salvage and bring it back to life or maybe a lowrider st. bad part about that is FXR platform was designed by eric Buell and is without equal the best handling big inch chassis they ever put out. even better then dyna. I won't get rid of my challenger as it handles as good as my FXRD did and when I want to lay down a 1,000-mile day I can. I want the FXR to ply with and be a hobby bike.
@@FXDLSBrooklyn Most definitely. Just lately it seems a lot of people have been whining about something or other. I wish I could afford one of the newer ones, but I'll stick with my '06 Softail Not-so-Standard. I tend to keep them a while, that's my second new Harley, the first being a '92 Heritage. You know, even with the new fangled EFI, and all the other vast improvements that took place in between those two bikes, I still miss the carburetted Evo. It was slower, longer warm up time, didn't handle well, but she ate up those big miles with ease and never let me down. Don't get me wrong, I love the '06, and it's been heaps of fun and a great project that never seems to end, but there was something about that old Evo that I miss.
I have a 92’ FXR im thinking about selling it, its not perfect has about 42k on it, but pistons and rings were done at about 20k only because the jugs came off due to base gasket leak , all done by previous owner, other than that, basically its stock, its the FXR with chrome dash on the tank with the speedometer in it, I’ve owned this bike since early 2000’s , it’s been very reliable, only thing holding me back from letting it go is the bike market is sooo low , im not willing to give it away!
I sold my 16 RGS and went back to a 2020 Street Bob. I've had 2 shoulder surgeries and that RG wore me out and was rough on my joints. SB is lighter and more forgiving for me.
I rode my buddies Low Rider ST in Sturgis, (of all places), this year when he wanted to give a girl a ride so we swapped for the day. (Mine, a 2020 RG with a 131 for his, a 2023 Low Rider ST with a 117), At my stature of 6'3" with girth found myself riding a mini bike. She pulled nice but I just couldn't get comfortable. He loves it, but then again he's probably 5'6" and skinny. Ride what makes you feel good, but if you're going to purchase one please rent one first for a day to make sure you fit

I’ve done the full circle. First bike was an 07 Street bob. Traded in for a 21 LRS, then to a 17 SGS, then to a 22 RGS. I’ve now completed the circle and ended up on a 21 Street Bob because I missed feeling like I’m on a bike and not a recliner.
My dyna I did some cheap 1 piece t bars, step up seat, quarter fairing, etc. The SOA special. I’m still in progress on the 21 street bob. I’ve done SDC seat, LED blinkers front and rear, moons mc light bar, tab zombie slip ons, and thrashin militant pegs. All I have left is the bars and I’m gonna do thrashin 6.5 pullback risers, steel bushings, and their aggressive mid bend bar.

I have my Ultra specifically for my passenger's comfort. My Sport Touring bike is a ZX14r and because of the longer body. Similar to the 'Busa. In the end, I wouldn't trade my bagger for anything. It can hold all of our gear, and the tour pack makes it like riding on a couch for the passenger. I'm not downing Harley, but if you want something light, fast and less expensive, go with a manufacturer that specializes in sport and sport-touring, in my opinion.
I’ve been buying different types of bikes for years as I like them all. Traded in a Kawasaki Concours 14 for a Street Glide. Traded the Street Glide in for a Yamaha Venture (the most comfortable bike in the world for touring). At 70 years old, my riding window is closing. But I’d still like to get a BMW as I’ve never owned one (had my fill of Harleys) before I hang up my spurs. Maybe a RT, R18, or even a R nineT Pure as variety is the spice of life.

I've had a couple of Sportsters, an FX, FXR, FXRT, Dyna and a few Baggers over the past 55 years. Recently sold my 2013 Road King Anniversary and 2015 CVO Road Glide Ultra and purchased a BMW R1250RT. Lost a few hundred pounds and the performance and technology is wonderful for this 69 year old. BTW, test drove the RT four times along with a Lowrider ST and Pan America. Both were contenders.
5’7” I just got a Lowrider ST… 💪🏽😎❤️🤛🏽 got the thrashin 9 1/2 inch pullbacks with the mid bars along with the gauge relocation.. can’t wait till they’re installed next week.
All this time later, I am actually of the school of thought that your first motorcycle should be something small, not as powerful, and cheap - A used Sportster or a Honda Rebel I feel like is a good choice for at least your first year
I've been on baggers since my 2000 Road King. I sold my 2013 SG back in 2018 and thought I was done with bikes. In January of this year (2023) I got bit by that bug again and picked up a 2014 FLSTFB and proceeded to turn it into a "Softail Roadglide", literally. Bags, wedge fairing, all the other creature comforts of the grand touring line. That bike was FUN! Light and nimble, and definitely pleased the seat-O-meter with the blippy responsiveness of the throttle and ridiculous quickness a tuned 103ci offers. Eight months later I traded it back in on an Ultra Limited. I guess I'm not that 'target audience' for the Low Rider ST, but I DO like their styling in general. For me those two tiny little saddlebags just won't cut it. These days I want space to keep all of my rain gear, 2 helmets (halfer and modular FF), and a change of clothes just in case, along with several other required pieces of tech or other gear. It's all about comfort for me, not so much about the sportiness or the speed. I'll get to the same places y'all are going, just in my own comfy time. My "road-sofa geezer-glide" is just my style and speed. =) Great content, and great breakdown on the trend.

Traded in my 2012 Road Glide Ultra for a 2025 Honda Grom! The Grom is 8:13 700 pounds lighter and way more fun to ride. Ok as a side note I still have a CVO Road King for longer rides, lol.
Love my softail standard. Made it a touring bike as well. But I'm 6'2" 250lbs and as much as I love it, I get cramped after a while on it. I'm keeping her as she's my first Harley and she'll be my in-town bike. However, I'll be purchasing a Road Glide this winter. That being said, I completely understand where everyone is coming from in regards to making the switch to a Low Rider ST, If I was a smarter man, I would have bought either the El Diablo when HD came out with that last year.
There's a part of me that's kicking myself for not doing the same, it's just that speaker system would have been wasted on me, I consider it extra weight
Here is my experience. I went on a ride with about 8 other guys. I had an Ultra, they had various models, but no baggers. They were all making fun of me for having an old man bike. We stopped at a cool little store in the mountains that sold collectables. Several of the guys bought stuff there. They all asked me if I would put their purchases in my trunk. Since they had been so persistent in giving me a hard time, I told them to stick it up their a$$. Spend your hard earned money on what you like, but for me, you cannot beat an Ultra.

If you want uncompromising comfort with all the benefits of a touring motorcycle, and in some models... raw unbridled performance, you will have a Harley bagger. Dismal thought to even contemplate the absence of Harley baggers. Ride on!👍
I'm 68 years old 5'7" 160 lbs. Have 54 years of riding and always 0n a stripped down, minimalist bobber style HD, Love the latest M8 Lowrider ST's performance, reduced weight, mono shock suspension, etc. Love just riding with no bags, windshield, fairing or any other extra accessories ...

As someone who in the last 3 years, has gone from a Low Rider S to a Fat Bob to a Road Glide, I find this interesting. I kept trying to make my softails into touring bikes. Once I rode an actual touring bike, for me, there was no going back.

This is me. I had a Sportster and then a 2017 (old Softail) Heritage. I tried to make both into touring bikes. Now I'm riding a Street Glide. I'd never go back to riding without a faring. Also, I've spent $40 to 45k total getting my SG dialed in. It has everything. There is no reason for me to trade ever.

I am fortunate enough to own an FXR, a Heritage Softail and an Ultraglide Classic. They each have their own purpose.

I own a 92 FXLR, a 17 RK, a 70 BSA Lighting, and a 95 Sportster 883XL, which I will add some bags on the existing brackets. I am fortunate enough to choose which bike I ride, for where I am going.
A lot of people like myself don't move on to a touring HD and never go back. We just add a tourer to the rest of our collection for a different purpose. I ride my SG for comfort, distance rides, ability to carrying stuff, combining rides with running errands, two up riding and then i can get my adrenelin fix on my 200 hp 400 lb Ducati with about 2 square inchs of storage space or vintage musclebike i"ve owned for over 40 years. I bought the SG new, the Ducati used with 3400 miles, and my GS musclebike plus all the extensive modificationons on all of the bikes and have less than the cost of a new touring CVO in all 3.
I think if have the capacity to have multiple bikes in the stable, that's the move - If I had to have only one bike for all purposes though, it would be the ST hands down

I own a Honda 1200 I have done a 600 miles trip on it. It came down to it was under 10k it looks good and i like the way it rides. You should buy a bike you like to ride.

I’m 6’4” and was dead set on a Low Rider ST…until a 10 mile test ride caused excruciating hip pain for 5 days afterward. Ended up going with a RGST but still lust after the looks of the Low Rider every time I walk into the dealership.
This, I’m the same height and anything on my Dyna over 300 miles is tough. Baggers are the only good option for us tall dudes who put down miles!
You can put forwards on a LRST.

You nailed it. I'm a smaller guy and I just bought a SG. I just can't seem to get comfortable on it because of the weight. I think the ST might be for me. Came from a Deluxe.
So Dan who owns O'Toole's Harley Davidson is around that height, and he's done a few things to make it work with him - He just did a distance trip heading west and said the bike performed excellently, I can refer you to him if you want to ask him what he did
Great piece! I'm about a month away from hitting my 70th trip around the sun and have never owned a bagger. Not that I haven't looked at them and appreciate what they offer, but I love the flexibility that my '18 Sport Glide gives me. I can ride long distance if I want or make short trips around town or to and from work. She's quick and maneuverable and as I become more seasoned (or get older as some would say), I also appreciate the relatively lighter weight of the bike. I haven't done a lot of work on my ride: an LA Fairing Co El Diablo fairing, upgraded HD grips, 4" pull back risers, Memphis Shades hand guards, and a detachable HD sissy bar/luggage rack combo, and Kuryakyn floorboards. Keep up the great work!
I'm continued to be surprised with how many people have wrote into this video praising the Sport Glide, didn't realize that bike had such a following - Good to hear man, wishing you a Happy Birthday if we don't hear from you between now and then!
The sport glide is perfect for rip around fun and touring.
I think people are intimidated with the size and weight of the streetglide and road glide etc. but you learn a few maneuvers and it is no different than a smaller bike.
In terms of handling a bike, 100% - But at the end of the day, if I can cut weight off the bike and still feasibly tour on it, best believe I will - Thanks for checking it out!

I find harley touring bikes easier to maneuver around than smaller bikes. Easier than older homda cb bikes like the 750 or goldwings of any year. Same goes for honda shadows or vulcans

I´m from Germany and I have a 1993 FLHS for 30 years now. It had been customized and has been my touring bike all the years. Years ago I bought a 100th Anniversary Wide Glide, but only for short rides and not for touring. But two months ago, I purchased a 2019 Sport Glide FLSB, which I think performs quite similar to the Low Rider ST: lighter, faster, better to handle and absolutely perfect for touring. I know I will never sell my old FLHS lady, but I think, I will take the Sport Glide for the next big tour through the Alps. :) So, after all: yes, you are right! Harley made a step to combine touring with more performance.
Yeah I would hold onto that 93 FLH, there's something that's just really cool about the Evo baggers from that era
I’m 6’2 235 lbs and I did a test ride on a low rider ST and it was just too small. For shorter guys it’s the perfect bike but a bagger is way more comfortable for guys built like me. I can really stretch out on my road glide plus the speakers are sick
I think out the box, that's probably true - However, I know a couple guys on the taller side who have done some mods to make the ST work for them
Same here to say pretty much exactly what you wrote. The ST is laughably small.
The Low Rider St looks great. The 117 up grade with 100 lbs of fat trimmed is great. The three issues I have are:
1) The lack of storage space (my computer and its extras) being the main problem. The ST bags just aren't big enough for what I need.
2) My RG has has some add-ons (maybe not the biggest motor or the highest price pipes and bars) that would cost $$$ to add to a new bike.
3) Most important reason why I'll stay with my RG: IT IS PAID OFF....NO MONTHLY BIKE PAYMENTS!!!
So some people are swapping out the ST bags for extended bagger bags or Leatherpros - In my situation because when I do the bike trips I always pack a large sissy bar bag, the size of the ST bags are actually perfect, and that's talking for 7000+ mile bike trips
I added a quick release tour pack to mine because of my work laptop situation. I found the side bags too small by time you add work stuff, jackets, etc. Cant beat a bike being paid off though!
Haven't ridden in 20 years and now want to tour. At 61 the weight of the baggers was bumming me out. I knew it wasn't if I dropped it but when. I didn't realize Harely had done this. I got to catch up. This looks like the way to go. Thanks for the info.

We just did a trip across the USA from California back to Toronto. I was on a bagger and my business partner was on a low rider ST and that thing absolutely crushed it, the only difference was the gas mileage, I’d be able to go a bit longer before filling up.
That's a great trip right there - For me, compared to the Dyna/FXR life, I'm always blown away with the mileage that I get out of my ST
The fuel tank on a Low Rider ST is 5.0 gallons.
My Sportster 1200 is set up like this ! I swapped my belt out for chain drive an said see ya on the hwy to the road glide with bags , turn down pipes , and a fwd facing intake and rejet for proper tune, and airbags with compressor, custom cool kat one piece wheels, & a screaming eagle clutch.. it’s a great bike. I’m 6 feet and did 800 miles in Az. On it in a weekend sat-sun and had a great time. I feel like as long as you have vision you can do ALOT with any line of Harley as long as time -- tons of time , and money you can customize just about any of em to your needs .

Last year i sold my Victory bagger for a LRST and i gotta say its probably the nicest out of the box HD I've ever ridden. Rode from Ct to the milwaukee 120th anniversary event. Loved it, the LR is perfectly capable for long distance. 1k a day is very possible.

This ain't just a thing in America, by the way. Asian here, dad's a Road King owner and was considering a Low Rider ST because the RK was getting heavy for him (and Harley Manila had run out of Street Bobs at the time). Ended up buying a secondhand Slim to save money, but he was *reeaaally* tempted until we saw that ad.

I made the switch. Have road Road Glide Customs/Specials for the last 12 years. For a lot of the reasons you highlighted in this video. I love my FXRST(El Diablo). Zero regrets about it. Faster, lighter, and sweet jesus the handling. Keep up the good work brother PMA all day

first i would like to say ride what you love, make it your what ever it is. I love true custom bikes and that to me for me is a chopper/bobber, that said my wife and I also have a hopped up Dyna and a street glide, Point is the stock street glide is as fast as the Dyna, and im not the only one to notice. it is in the gearing of the transmition. been riding for over 30 years i still LOVE sportys . . . last point ; many people felt there first bike should be a bagger. . .then heared about how great the dynas are , and a good many bagger riders felt they should try the smaller sexyer bike themselfs . . .NEVER let anothers opinion sway you from the one you love. . . yep stll got our XLs couse we love em.😊

I notice there are a lot of Harleys for sale in my area at prices unheard of a few short years ago. Prices are coming down for sportsters from 4000 to 7000 dollars with low mileage of under 10K. Many in like new condition. At the same time smaller bikes are going up in price. This doesn't make sense.

Dumped my Roadking for a Pan Am last November. Sure the king was a classy bike but the pan am is a beast that does everything well and just rips. oh and wheeling it around the garage and driveway is so much easier.

Not tons so far. I did do the NE motomarathon this October. Just over 2100 miles in less than a week. Been reliable so far. I do most my commuting on a honda monkey.
I sold my bagger FLHX and moved up. I'm 58 and got tired of driving an 850lb bike. I bought a Triumph Tiger 900 adventure bike and gave up on the silly dream of how cool I look driving a Harley. Nobody cares what you drive. I have had more fun driving an adventure bike than I ever had on my bagger. And, yes I did test ride a Low Rider ST in Laconia this year. Not arguing, ride whatever you like.

Agreed. I was in Maggie Valley this past week and was lusting after all the adventure bikes I saw in town and I own a Harley. I think ADV bikes just seem more practical and versatile. My wife was not as amused by the idea. Honestly, I like all kinds of bikes and I'm fine riding solo😂

I have a 16 road glide. I just recently bought a 23 lowrider s. I kept the road glide for the longer trips, but i grew up on dynas and love my lowrider s.

I bought a brand new FXRT in 1984. The MOCO produced a legitimate sport tourer way back when. It was a great machine, my gf and I put about 60k on it trekking all over Eastern Canada and New England. So, the idea isn't new but I think the market has changed enough to allow this bike sales success. I'm riding an Ultra bagger and Heritage. Depends on mood and destination which one gets out of the stable. Good content man, thanks

At the time it was a great bike, but like the shovels and pans of that time it was just another bike. I also had a 46 Knuckle at the time that I was having a great time with. I took a FLXR-S out for a week of riding and dragged knees on it... I've been a sport bike rider for decades, but I had a great time riding it...
Now that Buell Super Cruiser... that thing looks like the bike Harley should be making.

@@FXDLSBrooklyn for the moment I have mounted a Heritage shock to have more comfort, a Sport Glide seat, a pair of "End Game" pegs from HD and 5.5" Drag Specialities risers for better ergonomics, a pair of Twin Slash for the sound and also the aesthetic, a license plate support with built-in led light from Thunderbike for a slimmer rear end, a big solo leather bag on the left with a sissy bar and a lugage rack from HD to take my things with me when I'm away for several days and also a cruise control . Next step will be a Road Warrior fairing for winter and wind protection. I feel fine with this bike even it is a bit sportier for my style of riding, I will perhaps go with a Street Bob next year, which a more cool bike...
Have you tried the Indian challenger? If you wanna go faster on a bagger. As well as it has the inverted front forks and mono rear. And many other features. I personally chose the Indian challenger over the Low rider ST as I felt I got more for my dollar.

I always had to ride a bagger because I told my camper trailer behind it and I need the bigger brake system and I use it for going around the country. One trip was from Beverly Hills Florida to Fairbanks, Alaska, camping and all the Providence parks and United States parks I’m 5 foot eight 140 pounds I wish I had a smaller bike but I had to lower the back into Inches so I can get my feet on the ground with the bagger

From RG to Lowrider St. I’m 6’1 at 210 lbs and also a disabled veteran, the weight difference and me no longer able to do long trips the bike made sense. Enough room for my work essentials and gear.

I've got 03 Electra glide nice bike,just a little slow for my taste. So I punched the cylinders.30 over. Gives the 88" a little more umph. Should've built the 96" head's I think I'd be happier with that build. So I guess what I'm saying is this. We are always on the quest for something a little different for our riding pleasure. I had a street glide for 3 years, loved it, but decided that i wanted "smaller". After going back to sport bike and a dyna, then older softail... and after STRONGLY considering a Lowrider ST I've found myself back on a '24 road glide for couple reasons. As mentioned you hardly go back, once you get used to the ride comfort, stereo/gadgets, and a feel for the touring models it seems to be hard to change. I was looking new, so the cost from ST to Road Glide was around ~$3000 which is a lot, but getting the Navigation, stereo and familiarity (for me) made it the better buy.

At 6’2” and 220 pounds I will always take my bagger over anything else for actually putting on touring miles but for most any other riding that I do I pull out my Softail. When I tour it’s almost always riding 2 up, so both the passenger ( my wife) and I need the comfort that only a bagger can give on those long rides.
Yeah for the two up situation, I can definitely see that - However, I've gotten away with doing multiple two up bike trips on my dyna and ST using a Saddlemen SDC Pro and Touring Step Up

This is so funny that I came across this video. I treaded my 2020 road glide special to a 2023 low rider s. I did this 3 weeks ago. And 3 of those things are why I did it. Lighter cheaper payment and cost and faster. A lot of my buddies say I am stupid for doing it. But I don’t regret it.

I was on tour in Europe for 10 days and it was hard work on my Street Glide in the wet Alps after spinal surgery. Took her Sport Glide for a run as it had been sat for a few weeks and could not believe the difference. So traded the Street Glide Special and now have my 2023 Low Rider ST

Man I absolutely love my 2001 FXDX - That's a bike I will never be able to let go.
Been at this Harley thing since 1971 , I've had at least one ever since , at the ripe old age of 22 I got my first bagger , a new 1978 FLH , and promptly broke it in on a trip from Norfolk Va to San Diego Ca by way of Alaska .. In 1984 I got my first Tour Glide and I have been a TG/RG guy ever since .. I came real close to getting a 1986 FXRT , but didnt want to get rid of the TG . My friend the dealer gave it to me for a few days and I loved it .. Always had a soft spot for the Super Glide/Low Rider/Wide Glides and the idea of a FX based tourer has always been in the back of my mind as a great idea . The FXRT was ahead of it's time .. I would seriously consider the new Low Rider and bags , but I'd have to do some adjustments to make it right .. I've ridden a few and they just don't fit me .. Lighter is a big thing with birthdays behind me ..
Couldn't agree with you more on the FXRT being ahead of its time - My FXR is my daily rider, and not a mile doesn't go by that I don't love that damn bike - That Alaska trip sounds sick
Didn't sell my baggers but did add a Lowrider ST to the garage this year. Everything you said about weight , spot on. Increasing speed through horsepower is expensive but dropping weight can net the same result. What surprised me most was doing a 685 mile day on her this summer and it didn't suck. Even with the stock seat. Not going to give up my Street Glide for touring. I did 5665 miles this summer on a 10 day trip with 7 riding days. That's an average of 800 a day and for that the LRST would punish you. For a weekend trip up PCH, game on!
I hear you - I guess I come from a world where I do the 800 average mile day trips on a dyna, so the Low Rider ST feels luxurious compared to that - I love them both though - It's good to hear you got that 700 mile day out of the ST, that's what's up
I'm a youthful and fit 60 year old and have a different twist, my 2022 FXLRS is the first HD I ever liked, it's in my opinion the Company's best ever motorcycle. I've put roughly 6000 miles through it since May 2023 touring on it all over Maine and the North East. I'm 6' tall and 210lbs and this LR is comfortable. I've dialed it in for me with Thrashin Supply footboards and bags a Warrior windshield and Cobra NH slip ons. I have the only Gunship Grey FXLRS in an area with hundreds of Street and Road Glides, get compliments and looks from older riders every day. The 117 in a sub 700 lb bike is enough for anyone. The power to weight ratio is everything. Loving mine.

I’m a fan of the classic and more barebones look. I ride a softail that I’ve made my own little tweaks to and I love it. I’ve rode the baggers and I won’t deny, they are comfortable. They are like riding a sofa on two wheels. If I ever get to a point that I can’t do a long trip on a softail frame, I’ll consider it, but for now, I’m sticking with the cruiser.
The new baggers are kind of a different beast at this point
I won’t lie, I’ve debated trading down from my Road Glide ST to the LRST. Haven’t test rode the LRST but I had a LRS with a Memphis shades fairing prior to my road glide. Miss how lightweight it was, the CR480 cam made it stupid fast, and the lucky Dave’s 13 bar fit me so damn well.
Yeah I still need to throw a cam in my ST, but honestly, thing rips without one - Go test ride on, let us know!
@@FXDLSBrooklyn I got a Woods 22xe and a Fuel Moto RTX 2 into 1 that’s dyno tuned by Caliente Harley. It’s a great setup and I can’t complain at all on how it runs on the Road glide. This combo on a lighter bike would be even better though. I’m gonna shoot for next weekend to test ride.
I own a 2012 super glide with a 96 I’m 5’9 220 and i rode it to Kansas with ease I’ve had for 5 years and I don’t see myself growing out of it I’d say it’s perfect

So, people are figuring out that riding the heaviest bike with absolutely every feature you can think of is not really needed just to ride 10 miles to the bar? Its like buying a semi tractor just to get around town, who does that?
Truth - However, I will say for the purpose of crushing heavy mile days, those newer touring models simply do it effortlessly
I traded in my sportster 1200 iron for a sport glide a few years back. Best decision I made. As far as handlebars go, I love the road glide handlebars, so I switched out the stock ones. Really comfortable ride now. I'm not leaning forward as much.
There's been a lot of people preaching the Sport Glide life on this video, cool to see!
One thing that is stopping me from going to the lowrider is that it definitely seems like a single person touring option. I think in the interest of comfort for a riding partner, the touring options are still going to be your go-to. If you’re going long distance solo however, the ST looks like the best of both worlds.
I could see how someone would think that - I recently did multiple 2up moto camping trips with the old lady this summer, and they were all successful - However, if passenger comfort is your main priority, the bagger line is probably going to be the move
@@FXDLSBrooklyn Well, the stupid thing doesn't even come with a passenger seat or footpegs or even a functional windshield! It does have the same engine as the baggers, so by the time you've spent the money to correct all the deficiencies, it will be better than a bagger- lighter and faster.

Had a 17 Street Bob for a few years. Traded the 17 for a 21 RG Special after my accident, and I haven't looked back since. The M8 moves when you have right combo of engine mods. Plus the HPI 2 into 1 pipe looks, so nice.

@@FXDLSBrooklyn to keep it all warranty friendly, it's a SE torque cam with a tune to match the cam and the pipe, paired with an Arlen Ness (RIP) high flow air cleaner. So my factory warranty is still happy, without fear of getting nickle and dimed to death while I ride like a bat of hell for the another year. Then high comp pistons, studs, and more Cu Inches!
Interesting. I’m 76 years old. I started with a sportster in the 1970s. My second bike was a big twin and it was ridged frame chopper. I was a chopper guy most of my life with a couple of Lowrider shovel heads thrown in there. I didn’t keep any of them very long. when heritage softail’s came along, that was my natural way to go as I was getting older. I went from there to a road king and finally a road glide. The road glide was my very first and only brand new bike. I really enjoyed the bike for touring but around town It was kind of a handful. I was about to turn 70. I sold that bike and got into Dyna’s. So far I have had five Dynas, all twin cams. I sold my last one about a year ago when I moved to Texas. I’m just finishing what may very well be my last motorcycle. It started out as of totaled 1988 Evo. I’m just finishing wiring right now. I’m back to a rigid Frame with a six over Springer. I’m back to choppers and that’s where I will be from here on out.

I could never afford a big bagger in the first place the Low Rider ST is a fantastic bike but still very expensive. I have an Iron 883 and I can do short distance touring if I want. I also own a Royal Enfield 350 Classic in the sand colour and it’s my main running bike at the moment. I don’t live in the US so the cost of a Harley here are higher than in the USA

On back roads its ok, its a great entry level bike or a good cost saver as a 2nd bike. The biggest advantage of the RE Classic is the value and the look of the bike. I have 5 units and use them to run a small business. They can be rented for a week end and we generally have no issues. The classic works best as a back road and simple week end tripper. Most of the clients don’t own a bike and are returning back to the hobby, enjoyed by everyone and the touring is fine if you’re not in a big hurry. The community riders group is growing and we have about 20 patrons who enjoy basic rides. Now there is a lot of new things in the pipeline the Harley X bikes and the triumph 400s as well so things may change at the end of the year. We wanted a simple bike, that looked retro and rode well, and was affordable and had a wide appeal.

My riding buddy went from a 2018 CVO street Glide, then bought a 2020 114 LRS, then bought a 2022 Low Rider ST El Diablo. The EL D gets the most riding, buddy is 67 years old.
When I looked at the Low Rider ST, I thought if I were a single rider, that would definitely be the bike for me. But since I ride 2-up with my wife, the best performance bike for us has been the Indian Pursuit. It's a heavy bike, but when throwing it into a curve it doesn't feel heavy at all. It feels like a big sportbike. I can certainly see the attraction to a sport-touring bike.
That's what's up - I am able to get away with a lot of two-up riding on the ST, but I have little to no experience with the pursuit, actually saw one on my block recently, looks like a great bike

Actually, when I said riding 2-up, that included long distance touring. I could do a road trip on a Low Rider ST by myself. But the wife with me, more storage space would be required. Us guys can get by with just a few necessary things. The ladies, they know how to use every bit of storage space a big bagger has. LOL!!
When I want faster and lighter I jump on the Speed Triple, if I want to cruise two up or tour I ride my SG. When I want to just go back to just the basics of a motorcycle I kick over the Shovel, no one said you can only ride one type of bike.
Oh, I almost forgot when I feel the urge to ride forest service or back country roads I jump on the mighty DR, I still love riding them all and will until the day comes I no longer can.

Sold my 2011 Street Glide CVO this spring and bought a 99 FXDX. The Glide was too big and bulky for my tastes, sold it after 18 months. I still have an 86 FXRD Grand Touring for my Supper Club nights and Fall Rides.

I love my 03 Screamin Eagle Deuce for the speed and ability to shove it into a corner like a sport bike and not be grinding the floorboards or exhaust. My wife rides so I'm solo and can get most places with a bag strapped on the back. Yet at 60 years old I'm not ashamed to stuff the bikes in a trailer either and ride the piss out of them when we get there.
There's nothing wrong with that - I personally never opt to trailer, but I also don't throw shade on people who do because I have a lot of friends that trailer and then rip hard
I traded in my 850 pound bagger for a 650 pound FXST last year. It's nice not having to maneuver that old road-tank in city traffic anymore.

I decided to buy a Harley in March of 2022, and because I didn't want to spend as much as what a new car might cost, it involved having to choose between the Heritage Classic and the Road King. I sat on a Heritage and leaned it from side to side and was mildly surprised by how light it felt. Then I did the same on a Road King and was immediately intimidated by how quickly the weight came on when leaned ever so slightly, so I opted for the Heritage. Note that the Heritage is a good touring bike because it has a comfortable seat, cruise control, triple headlights, wind screen, floor boards and bags, and is 100 pounds lighter than the Road King, although that gets paired down to just 70 pounds after buying/installing an engine guard and saddlebag guards on the heritage (these items came standard on the Road King).
Hey this 76 year old rider got bagger fever back in 2008 when I traded up from a 2007 Dyna SE. My 2012 bagger is like riding my easy chair at this age...LOL! Enjoyed the video, comments, and agree completely and if I ever got a drink from the fountain of youth would do the same!

I bought my RG in '06. I was 41. I still have the same bike. I had no bags, I had leather bags, milk crates and back packs on the mc's I owned prior to the RG. The thing is, bikes are like shoes. You need more than one because you never know what you need. But...if I can only have one, it will be the RG. And, that is why I have the same bike for 17 years. Going faster? Why? How fast do you want to go. It will never be fast enough because you will out grow it.
I bought a Low Rider ST and installed a Stage 2. This bike rocks. Fast & Agile!

Longtime viewer here I no longer own a Harley, but I still watch his channel and enjoy it. No One mention is that these touring bikes with these extreme temperatures in the summer being stuck in traffic that thing is like having a barbecue between your legs, I got rid of mine got on the Africa twin for me adventure bikes, are the way to go.
Nice! I'm not a Harley owner either but enjoyer of motovlog channels lol. For me the thing that's kept me from Harley is simply the prices. I've been riding a Triumph Speedmaster for the past 2 years that I found for only 11K with less than 500 miles when I found it. It's been a phenomenal commuter bike for me.
The Africa twin is a solid bike! Adv bikes probably do have the best utility of all the biking categories, but I'm too vain to get one lol. I love the retro styled bikes too much, I reckon I'll get a second bike that's a scrambler to fit that taste

It does everything so very well.
Tours, backroads the twisties, and commutes. Plus it has mucho power on tap.
That being said my next big twin will be an early Dyna Low Rider or Wide Glide .

I have been waiting for this bike for years. Built my street bob for touring. Tried a switchback. Then had a CVO ultra for 6 months. Too big, too bulky. My 23 ST is the best bike i have ever owned and that tops all the FXR's i have had as well. Good vid!

@@FXDLSBrooklyn totally agree with the timelessness of the FXR. I’m doing a frame up 93 right now and I’m sure it will be worlds better than my 84, 91, and 94s I’ve had in the past. Just all new suspension etc. but the switchback was cool. The idea was cool. Major convertible vibes. But that front end man. That heritage or touring style front end just killed the ride and the sport touring ideology for sure
The FXLRST is my favorite bike, but I still LOVE the Road King Special and decided to get one for a second bike.
over 48 years of riding, I have ridden' sportsters. FSXDs road kings and road glides. I currently have an Indian challenger with stage 2 upgrades. it hands exceptional. I do want to pick up another fxr salvage and bring it back to life or maybe a lowrider st. bad part about that is FXR platform was designed by eric Buell and is without equal the best handling big inch chassis they ever put out. even better then dyna. I won't get rid of my challenger as it handles as good as my FXRD did and when I want to lay down a 1,000-mile day I can. I want the FXR to ply with and be a hobby bike.
Finally, HD has done something that nobody is whining about.
I feel like they've had some other victories before this - The Dyna Low Rider S was a win as was the release of the M8 Low Rider S
@@FXDLSBrooklyn Most definitely. Just lately it seems a lot of people have been whining about something or other. I wish I could afford one of the newer ones, but I'll stick with my '06 Softail Not-so-Standard. I tend to keep them a while, that's my second new Harley, the first being a '92 Heritage. You know, even with the new fangled EFI, and all the other vast improvements that took place in between those two bikes, I still miss the carburetted Evo. It was slower, longer warm up time, didn't handle well, but she ate up those big miles with ease and never let me down. Don't get me wrong, I love the '06, and it's been heaps of fun and a great project that never seems to end, but there was something about that old Evo that I miss.
I have a 92’ FXR im thinking about selling it, its not perfect has about 42k on it, but pistons and rings were done at about 20k only because the jugs came off due to base gasket leak , all done by previous owner, other than that, basically its stock, its the FXR with chrome dash on the tank with the speedometer in it, I’ve owned this bike since early 2000’s , it’s been very reliable, only thing holding me back from letting it go is the bike market is sooo low , im not willing to give it away!
Oh yeah, hold onto to that thing - Never letting go of my FXR.
I sold my 16 RGS and went back to a 2020 Street Bob. I've had 2 shoulder surgeries and that RG wore me out and was rough on my joints. SB is lighter and more forgiving for me.
I love those newer Street Bobs, I'm surprised I don't see more of them
I rode my buddies Low Rider ST in Sturgis, (of all places), this year when he wanted to give a girl a ride so we swapped for the day. (Mine, a 2020 RG with a 131 for his, a 2023 Low Rider ST with a 117), At my stature of 6'3" with girth found myself riding a mini bike. She pulled nice but I just couldn't get comfortable. He loves it, but then again he's probably 5'6" and skinny. Ride what makes you feel good, but if you're going to purchase one please rent one first for a day to make sure you fit

I’ve done the full circle. First bike was an 07 Street bob. Traded in for a 21 LRS, then to a 17 SGS, then to a 22 RGS. I’ve now completed the circle and ended up on a 21 Street Bob because I missed feeling like I’m on a bike and not a recliner.

My dyna I did some cheap 1 piece t bars, step up seat, quarter fairing, etc. The SOA special. I’m still in progress on the 21 street bob. I’ve done SDC seat, LED blinkers front and rear, moons mc light bar, tab zombie slip ons, and thrashin militant pegs. All I have left is the bars and I’m gonna do thrashin 6.5 pullback risers, steel bushings, and their aggressive mid bend bar.
Bro you are 100% correct I’ve had two baggers and I always ride it like a dirt bike , now since this bike came out I’m taking the plung on the low rider st

I have my Ultra specifically for my passenger's comfort. My Sport Touring bike is a ZX14r and because of the longer body. Similar to the 'Busa. In the end, I wouldn't trade my bagger for anything. It can hold all of our gear, and the tour pack makes it like riding on a couch for the passenger. I'm not downing Harley, but if you want something light, fast and less expensive, go with a manufacturer that specializes in sport and sport-touring, in my opinion.
Well said - I think when it comes to comfort in general, especially passenger comfort, then the bagger line does make sense
I’ve been buying different types of bikes for years as I like them all. Traded in a Kawasaki Concours 14 for a Street Glide. Traded the Street Glide in for a Yamaha Venture (the most comfortable bike in the world for touring). At 70 years old, my riding window is closing. But I’d still like to get a BMW as I’ve never owned one (had my fill of Harleys) before I hang up my spurs. Maybe a RT, R18, or even a R nineT Pure as variety is the spice of life.

I've had a couple of Sportsters, an FX, FXR, FXRT, Dyna and a few Baggers over the past 55 years. Recently sold my 2013 Road King Anniversary and 2015 CVO Road Glide Ultra and purchased a BMW R1250RT. Lost a few hundred pounds and the performance and technology is wonderful for this 69 year old. BTW, test drove the RT four times along with a Lowrider ST and Pan America. Both were contenders.

All this time later, I am actually of the school of thought that your first motorcycle should be something small, not as powerful, and cheap - A used Sportster or a Honda Rebel I feel like is a good choice for at least your first year
I've been on baggers since my 2000 Road King. I sold my 2013 SG back in 2018 and thought I was done with bikes. In January of this year (2023) I got bit by that bug again and picked up a 2014 FLSTFB and proceeded to turn it into a "Softail Roadglide", literally. Bags, wedge fairing, all the other creature comforts of the grand touring line. That bike was FUN! Light and nimble, and definitely pleased the seat-O-meter with the blippy responsiveness of the throttle and ridiculous quickness a tuned 103ci offers. Eight months later I traded it back in on an Ultra Limited.
I guess I'm not that 'target audience' for the Low Rider ST, but I DO like their styling in general. For me those two tiny little saddlebags just won't cut it. These days I want space to keep all of my rain gear, 2 helmets (halfer and modular FF), and a change of clothes just in case, along with several other required pieces of tech or other gear. It's all about comfort for me, not so much about the sportiness or the speed. I'll get to the same places y'all are going, just in my own comfy time. My "road-sofa geezer-glide" is just my style and speed. =)

Traded in my 2012 Road Glide Ultra for a 2025 Honda Grom! The Grom is 8:13 700 pounds lighter and way more fun to ride. Ok as a side note I still have a CVO Road King for longer rides, lol.
Love my softail standard. Made it a touring bike as well. But I'm 6'2" 250lbs and as much as I love it, I get cramped after a while on it. I'm keeping her as she's my first Harley and she'll be my in-town bike. However, I'll be purchasing a Road Glide this winter.
That being said, I completely understand where everyone is coming from in regards to making the switch to a Low Rider ST, If I was a smarter man, I would have bought either the El Diablo when HD came out with that last year.
There's a part of me that's kicking myself for not doing the same, it's just that speaker system would have been wasted on me, I consider it extra weight
