i got a 2016 fat bob its super nice the stock seat is even awesome. only thing i dont like is the aftermarket kinda sucks compared to some of the other dynas
Hi Matt, My first Harley was a used 1979 AMF Superglide, it was funny how every now and then the carburetor would cough. I traded it for a 1984 FLHP. I loved that bike, wish I still had it, that carburetor never coughed. Eventually sold that bike in the late 1990's and purchased my current bike brand new which is a 2007 FXDC Superglide Custom Cobalt Blue. I then turned that bike into a Switchback by purchasing a complete front end, front and rear fenders, saddlebags, and a softail laced front wheel, all on eBay from different bikes. I added an FLH solo saddle seat like my 84 FLHP had, and used a bicycle shock to imitate the pogo stick. It took some trial and error to find the correct spring to support my weight without bottoming out, and giving me a little bounce. The last thing I'm going to do is add a Flash Gordon single muffler on the tow into one Switchback header. It will look old school when I'm done. John from NY State.
My very first Harley I bought brand new was 2002 FXDL. In 2008 I rebuilt the top end and cam chest to 95ci all gear S&S. She sits in my driveway today next to my 2021 FLHRSX. I ❤ Dynas 🤘🏽
I can't make a big opinion about these bikes. I'm just here for the Harley-Davidson lore and history. Matt, does the best videos about Harley-Davidson motorcycle history
Great episode. The Dynas' are the unsung heroes of HD. Bigger than a Sportster but not so overblown as the bigger bikes. Street and Fat Bob are my favourites
Hey Matt: Thanks for the video. I've owned about 4 Dynas, but my all time favorite bike was my first Harley. It was a 1982 FXR which I bought new in 1982. It was a five speed, rubber mounted 80 inch Shovelhead. I loved it. Kept that bike about ten years. Dynas after that, but none of them were as good as the FXR! Wouldn't you know it, riding a "Geezer Glide" now. 2011 Road Glide Ultra.
I get it, the switchback is a bit left field as far as Dyna’s go but I’m genuinely surprised how harshly you reviewed it! I absolutely love mine. Perfect balance of classic HD looks with the Dyna nimble frame. Love the saddle bags too!
I liked the concept of the Switchback so much that I turned my 07 FXDC into one. I purchased a complete front end, front and rear fenders, floor boards, softail front laced wheel to match the stock rear laced wheel, and of course the saddlebags.
I’m not surprised at all. It’s a nice bike and in between a bar hopper/short cruise bike and a long ride tourer. The problem is the “Harley guys” are pretty gay lol. Their so stuck in some macho bro culture bs that they come off as cheesy pussies and I don’t know any real bikers that like any of the d-bags rocking Harley t-shirts and going to the dealership to hang out.
I have a 14 switchback and love it I don't understand why everyone puts out a video hating the bike it's a great starting platform. I put an Advanblack ST Style Fairing on my switch back and love it. Was considering there Batwing but decided I didn't want to look like all the other touring out there. If I wanted that style I would have bought another touring bike used to have an 06 electraglide ultra classic was tired of the weight of it should have never sold it
Enjoy the bike man. At the end of the day it’s a Dyna with a 103 TC. I just don’t like the bags and wheels. With an aftermarket fairing I’m sure it’s a sweet ride
@@MattLaidlaw ya the bags are a bit of an issue and harley don't make it easy to fix I need some new rubber bushings and no dealer up here in SAC has them in stock and due to harleys policy I can't buy them online and have shipped to me from other dealers because they tell me harley forbids them to sell stuff to someone outside of my local dealer zip code. The dealers here cant say if they will get any in stock before early next year
Love that you used some clips from the FXDX video that I did - That’s my buddy Rob, he’s going to be psyched to know that he’s in a Matt Laidlaw video! ⚡️
I could ‘update’ my 1993 dyna low rider BUT hyper evo reliability, can fix it myself, sound and feel is real HD. I’ve been Harley my whole life and will never change, that’s why I ride a 30 year old bike
I have a 2016 Dyna Switchback and absolutely love it. I've never had the saddlebag lids "fly open" while riding, and with some subtle changes (new bars, windshield, front fender, suspension, etc.) it's become a real joy to ride. It's small enough to ride around town but big enough for some weekenders or even longer trips, and it really looks the part now.
@@CactusJack252 I have the Advanblack ST Style Fairing on my switch back and love it was considering there Batwing but decided I didn't want to look like all the other touring out there. If I wanted that style I would have bought another touring bike
FXDXT#1. People bought/buy a FXDLS and add a T-Sport fairing, Leather Pros T-Sport saddlebags, switch to dual gauges up top and throw on higher rear shocks. The value is still there after 20+ years. A clean OG T-Sport can even garner the same price of a Lowrider S these days. Nonetheless, another great video.
I bought a Dyna Superglide in ‘97, because it was all I could afford. I always thought the softail was a better looking bike, but I couldn’t afford one. But I still have that bike, and love it more today than ever. Too bad it was discontinued.
I had a ‘97 for a little over a year. It just left for its new home a few days ago. I agree with Matt that I don’t prefer the blonde motor. Had it been wrinkle black I may have leaned towards keeping it. I did love the States Blue Pearl Paint.
Matt, thanks for such a great video. I had a '14 Dyna Low Rider and I loved, LOVED that bike. About 6 months ago I had a deer strike, and it was totaled at 42K miles. I'm a little embarrassed to say this, but I literally cried. I replaced it with a Fat Boy 114, which is an amazing bike in its own right, but I think I will always look back on the Dyna as my favorite.
Ironically, as I drove to work today I saw a gentleman riding a sweet purple Dyna and wearing a 3/4 helmet with a plastic bubble face shield. He looked cool as could be and didn't seem to have a care in the world. To me, the Low Rider and Wide Glide are the iconic Dynas.
I got into Harleys because of this channel, and I continue to learn more about Harley Davidson through this channel. What an amazing motorcycle company.
Matt, another classic video. Your command of the history of the Motor Company is amazing and so well presented. As for me, my 2007 FXDSE is a classic, but then again I replaced the stock shocks with WP, the grips and foot pegs, added a passenger back rest to keep my lady from slipping off, since I had the heads ported and polished, installed a torque cam, added VH pipes and replaced the front brake with an oversized Brembo disk and caliper. Still the styling of the bike is awesome, especially the bars and gauge cluster.
Love this video. My Father in the early 90s was working at an Engineering company and they received a lot of contract work from Harley - York to work on the tooling that helped them mass produce parts. Dyna Convertible was my favorite. The black or red metallic with the gold Harley Logo, so beautiful.
Matt, Good Morning - I met you two weeks ago while I was there with my Dyna Wide Glide. You were kind enough to speak with me & told me of this upcoming episode. Thank you, thank you!
At 16 the Sturgis came out, I loved it then. There years ago I found one in the next state, and now I own it...took some years I know...but worth the wait.
I believe Up to and including ‘05 the Super Glide and Low Rider had different take angle. I lived through this time lusting after each of these bikes. This video very good. Can tell you put a lot into this one.
Bought my FXDC Black Pearl paint in 2005 new. I thought I would keep it for a while and then buy a softail if or when I didn’t want it anymore. Still have it and I’m so glad I do. Great bike on the highway and the city streets.
Excellent review, being a Dyna guy myself I pretty much agree with your top 10 list with my two favourites being the Dyna Superglide Sport followed by the Dyna Low Rider S.
👍 Great job and loved your dads perspective on sales of FXRs and Dynas at the time. I knew the FXDLRS would be #1 at the start. As a daily So Cal rider since late 80s I was always a big litre sportbike rider. Then 16 the LRS came out and I was finally sold on a HD purchase. I also grabbed a 16 SG and both have been built as performance rippers. Still own insane sportbikes, but enjoy humbling crotchrocketeers in the twisties with my HD builds.
The Dyna has always been the iconic HD in my mind, and I've always wanted one, bigger than a Sportster and smaller than a Tourer. Went to a showroom with the intent of buying a Dyna, Buddy of mine snatched the bike I was considering, went with a FLHP that was sitting beside it and I was hooked. Still absolutely love the dyna and will have one eventually, such an iconic style, but I love my Road King. Recently ordered a FLHTP 2025, but still looking for an affordable Dyna for a cruiser for the hell of it, because they are so iconic and still my dream bike from my childhood.
Good stuff, really love these look back videos. Makes me really appreciate Willie G. His efforts to retain the heritage of Harley Davidson combined with the spirit of his Factory Experimental designs, the end result are a bunch of legendary bikes. And I love hearing your take on all of it. 'Road Prince', that's just funny stuff 🤣
I've ridden sport bikes for most of my 23 years of riding, my GSXR1000 heavily modified being my absolute favorite bike. That being said, I had a good deal on an 05FXDLi, I've done tons of work to it. I love it so much, it's a hooligans dream
Got a 2009 Street Bob FXDB, and it's a pure beast ! Half chrome half black with screaming eagle exausts. Between the dark custom and a lil' chop, the best bike i've ever had 🤘

I’ve been a fan of your TH-cam channel for years! Thanks for making such phenomenal videos about motorcycle culture!
HI, Overall Matt an excellent tribute as always to the DYNA, the only criticism is placing the STREET BOB at a lowly no:8 I have owned my STREET BOB since 2012 and it is in pristine condition with somewhere around 1500 miles on the clock from new. They look superb, ride wonderfully and in my special factory paint job of BIG BLUE and black scallops hand painted on the tank is really a thing of beauty. Having had the engine uprated to 103 CUBIC, its spot on with power etc etc I have also owned a wide glide with orange flames and a first 2006 Dyna Street Bob with the 6 speed transmission. I would have placed it in the top 5 of best DYNAS, but like they say 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder' Keep up the Good work. Best wishes from London, England
I love my switchback and I agree with you it was definitely ahead of of its time and one of the best motorcycles of all time, thanks Mike , keep up the good work
I bought the new Fatboy S in 2016. I thought about the Dyna Low Rider S but I was pretty much a softail fan at the time. I wish I would’ve gotten the Dyna Low Rider S. It was a much better ride than the old softails were.
Fantastic video. I really like the look of the Wide Glide. I think Harley needs a new bike in the Softail line that resembles one of the classic Dyna models.
Yea, I struggled with the Low Rider. It could have been higher. I almost clumped the Low Rider and Low Rider S together. But decided not to because they were very distinctly 2 different models.
Thank you Matt for making this video!!! 👌👍💪 We - Dyna lovers need all the support we can get! As far as agreeing with your list ….. I did own 2017 FXDLS and loved it ( had to sell it 😢) ! But if I buy a Dyna again, it would be a Fat Bob ….or an EVO WG 🤔
I have a stock 97 Superglide just a S&S carb and forward controls. I love it. I ride it to TX from NYC couple times a year to see my kids. I only have 1 complaint that is the key location Can't tell how many time I forget to put the key in or take out. LOLOL
Last year i purchased an imported FXD Dyna Wide Glide build in 2000. Till now it's been a moneypit. So much wrong with it. But I still ride it with pride.
What happened to the 1980 FXB STURGIS that WAS THE BIKE WILLIE G was talking about in your video!!! Hey dude you missed it by 11 years and YES I've had my FXB STURGIS since 2000 and it is a Beauty.
The Wide Glide is amazing for long freeway rides. So stable. The twin cam nut punchers, unbalanced, send you down the road with a smile. Run pretty rich. It cools the engine enough to make a difference on when the overall comes.
Awesome video and review Matt!! I have visited the New England Motorcycle Museum in Connecticut. I live about an hour or so away. If you ever get a chance to visit the East Coast, or New England, I highly recommend checking that place out!! My favorite DYNA is the FXDWG3 or just the FXDWG .
@@MattLaidlaw , Great review on the 10 best softails also. I own a 2002 Fat Boy and my girlfriend owns a 1994 FXLR. They are both on my channel. Keep up the great work
I had two Dyna Convertables, why? Almost all my miles were two up and it shined in that context. But placing it at #9 is spot on. What made it a great "riding" motorcycle is what crushed sales. The Dyna SuperGlide was offered during a period when our dealership couldn't get enough "big twins" to satisfy demand, so the low cost, lower margin SuperGlide wasn't offered or sold. The Low Rider and Dyna WideGlide was what was most in demand at our store in the PNW. Let me be clear though. A lot of Dyna WideGlides were sold to folks who weren't willing to wait for the Softail model that they really wanted.
Owned a 2017 low rider s, I regret selling it, but I only have so much garage space! Ultimately I am old and the bike was harsh on my bones, am riding a 21 street glide standard, and it is fast enough stock, low rider s was a beast!
I bought a Dyna FXD in August 1996. I rode that bike 26 years. I put a set of leather works slanted bags, used a Tee bag and a windshield for longer road trips. Went all over the mid and western USA on it. I regret selling that bike.
After nearly two years on my 2003 FXDWG and while I understand why they couldn't absorb all of the Dynas into the Softail line, I kind of feel like they could have benefitted by absorbing the Wide Glide somehow.
Thanks for the video, great history lesson. My own opinion I think pricing hurt a lot of switchback sales, priced so similar to a road king at the time why choose the baby when you could have the real thing for not much more money. But I never rode the switchback either so maybe it just wasn’t a great bike. I used to trade bikes every year or so until I bought my 14 FXDL new, over 10 years later it’s still in my garage.
Love my 2007 Street Bob. Such a customizable bike and it runs like a clock, even after storing it for the long Buffalo winters. In the time I've had it the only thing left original on it is the frame and the 96 c.i. engine.
First Harley was a new 1988 883, then got a 1995 FXDL evo in black. Now have a tc88 FXDL made 10/98 in blue/silver. It's a generation ahead of the evo. The rarest Harley is one that hasn't been the victim of the after market parts catalogue.
Got a 2008 Fat Bob and it's the best bike I have ever ridden or owned , it does everything . Handles , brakes and tours .

🤣 Sorry man. No hard feelings.
Great video. Makes me want to pick up a Dyna.
Bad ass video brother. You just made Dyna value go up. 🤙🏼👊🏼
I'm 6'6" too... so the Wide Glide is what I ride & #1 for me!!!!
The tall man’s bike. 👍🏼👍🏼
Very well done Matt - just sold a Softail and looking for a Dyna now...
great summary ! I miss my '99 FXDX ! one of my favorite bike !
Such a Bad ass Dyna! FXDX Rocked
Great video Matt, thanks very much!
Hard to pick the best 10 so yes you did it well 👍 i personally would have put the 14.5 low rider up further but that's just me 🤠 Again great video...
Yea, I struggled with the Low Rider. It could have been higher. I almost clumped the Low Rider and Low Rider S together. But decided not to because they were very distinctly 2 different models.
I think of the Dyna as a big twin engine fitted in a Sportster style frame. I fondly remember the special Evo Dyna Sturgis and Daytona models.
I wish I had first hand memories of those bikes but I was too young!
As always, great detail.
I’ve been waiting for this one! Hell yeah! Thanks, Matt!
Thanks for checking it out!
I Really enjoyed this episode, thank you for posting
Thank you Matt for making this video!!!
👌👍💪
We - Dyna lovers need all the support we can get!
I still ride on an 05 Wideglide. Its my pride and joy.
Great video, thanks!
I was rooting for the T-Sport to be #1 because I have one 😆
......93 FXDL here.....great bike!
Hey Matt if you put a a FXR fairing on the switch back it becomes a cool ass touring bike reminds me of early FLH of the 70s great video
That sounds like it would be cool. I have never seen that done on the FLD before.
@@MattLaidlaw saw one on that bad people channel from folada
@@MattLaidlaw Florida
Yes you interview him, a wizard from the south
Love these videos of ranking bikes.
What happened to the 1980 FXB STURGIS that WAS THE BIKE WILLIE G was talking about in your video!!! Hey dude you missed it by 11 years and YES I've had my FXB STURGIS since 2000 and it is a Beauty.
Yep, super cool bike. Life long friend's dad has one in the garage and original owner. If I get space in mine, I'll buy it.
My first Harley was a 2003 LowRider. Put a cam in it and she was a runner. Loved the bike.
Wide glides has the classic flame paint 🤘
The Wide Glide is amazing for long freeway rides. So stable. The twin cam nut punchers, unbalanced, send you down the road with a smile. Run pretty rich. It cools the engine enough to make a difference on when the overall comes.
Well done Matt. 🍺🍺🍺
Thank you 👍🏼
I love my 17 FXDLS!! Best bike I’ve ever owned.
I would love to have the last wide glide, its just perfect
Yea the Wide Glide is a great Machine
That was my first Harley, 2015 wide glide. Loved it! A deer ran out in front and totaled her or would probably still have her
They need to offer the current low riders in a chrome option. It would fly off the shelf
Loving my original stock 2001 FXDXT since picking it up over summer. It’s my go to over my road king and super glide custom
Yes have to agree with your list ! Well done, love these history videos.......
If I'm ever in Connecticut I'm for sure visiting that museum!
@@MattLaidlaw , Great review on the 10 best softails also. I own a 2002 Fat Boy and my girlfriend owns a 1994 FXLR. They are both on my channel. Keep up the great work
I currently have an Indian scout and I’m thinking of trading it in for a road king after watching your videos. Thanks for the content.
GREAT Context! Thank you!!
Fantastic video thank you ML.
Owned a 2017 low rider s, I regret selling it, but I only have so much garage space! Ultimately I am old and the bike was harsh on my bones, am riding a 21 street glide standard, and it is fast enough stock, low rider s was a beast!
You have a great list Matt!!!!!😊
I remember when i got my dyna Street Bob at Laidlaws, back in 2016
Spot on Matt
You should do a video on what all the designations (letters) mean.
yes
I loved my Super Glide. I turned that thing into a beast. It's the only motorcycle that I truly miss.
Super Glide was Epic
Amazing bike at 32 minutes FXDX
