Thanks buddy.. The Ultra Handheld is a great compliment to the bigger sprayer, such as your T5.. So just small projects.. Hi great video. When you masked up do you leave the mastic uncovered and spray over it, i could not quite see. It looked like you left a small line onto the surface say around the window looked like you left a slight gap onto the frame? I ask because i just done a bathroom ceiling and the mastic was done very neatly but in a couple of places the mastic was smeared thinly onto the ceiling and left an untidy edge. I used Zinsser BIN over the mastic slightly to help paint adhere but can not say i was 100% with the finish it left. Any advice for the future would be appreciated.

Hi mate, great video. Just a question regarding the overspray on the walls from spraying the trims, do you sand it to give the shiny acrylic a key for the emulsion or you happy that they bond together ok without it?
Hey buddy, thanks for the support.. Great question, that’s something I’ve kept an eye on.. Hi Pete, you probably get asked this a lot but do you clean out your gun in between different stages i.e primer coat, woodwork and top coats? And if so how long does it take? And one other question (sorry) when loading your gun with paint how do you pour it in to such a small container from say a 5 or 10L tin without making a mess or spillage? Something I've not been able to master yet. I'm really OCD about keeping things clean, organised and mess free on jobs 😆 Thanks.
Hey Kevin, thanks for your question, I’m more than happy to help and advise any way I can.. yeah you do need to flush through with clean water a couple of times when changing products.. this is the same for all spray machines, going from primer to tip coat, it doesn’t need to be 100 per cent clean, like I’d advise when storing a sprayer.. just a quick flush, a couple of times.. probably takes about 5 minutes or less when using these handhelds 👍 ..I get what you’re saying, it can be tricky pouring out of the bigger cans, especially when full.. trick is to hold the can up a little higher over the pot, and go for it 👍 don’t hesitate, just pour relatively quickly 😆 ..I’m the same, I like everything clean and if a ‘mistake’ was to happen I have to clean up the pot before continuing 😆 keep in touch my friend, happy to help if I can 👍 regards Pete
Hey brother.. great question.. if I’m using the Tikkurila system, such as a Helmi top coat, I do very much like Otex Akva.. other primers I like is Caparol Haftprimer and Teknos Futura Primer.. but my all time favourite is AkzoNobel WP136, whilst it’s not technically an adhesion primer (it’s a high build primer), with good prep of the previous coating (perhaps oil/based), I’ve never had any adhesion issues.. it’s also an edge sealer, so primes mdf nicely.. also if there’s been evidence of the previous costing peeling when you’re sanding, any small stubborn hits get ‘stuck down’ and the high build smooths off.. fast drying, sands so nice.. great primer.. this is the primer being airless sprayed towards the end of this video.. product details and where to purchase are in the video description.. th-cam.com/video/a-Q3Y9TEBqM/w-d-xo.html Keep in touch my friend 🙏 regards Pete
Hello my friernd I just see your video, you do very good job ! :) can I get some odvice please about the tips for the graco ultra max , which tips you use for miss coat , top coat , and whats diferrent , what tips for water base like for baseboard or architraves ? thank you , good luck :)
Hey Adrian.. thank you very much, I appreciate your feedback.. I typically use a 515 for mist coat and top coating emulsions (In this video, I possibly used the 514 that came with the Handheld).. a 514 will let out slightly less paint than a 515.. then because a mist coat is very thin compared to a regular emulsion.. you just need to move quicker (it will flow quick).. for waterborne trim paints I typically use a 210 or 310 / 410 for wider passes (such as doors).. if the material is thinner (low viscosity), such as spray only manufacturer coatings, I’m a big fan of .008 tips such as a 208 or 308.. I plan to make a video demonstrating tip sizes in relaxation to fluid flow / viscosity.. hope this helps a little, feel free to ask me questions anytime.. I will always do my best to help.. I appreciate your input on the channel.. take care my friend, regards Pete 🎨💯
Great video !! Im just about to buy one I’m 55 and consider myself a decent decorator but I’ve never heard of those paints bathroom that small full prep brush and roller is a day for me I can tell the Finnish was mint how much was the paint and sundries tape paper etc and are people willing to pay just done background on prices would be helpful 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the feedback my friend.. Yeah check out Tikkurila, it’s a brand from Finland, they’re market leaders in the Nordic’s and Scandinavia. The UK office is in Edinburgh.. great friendly and very helpful staff when speaking on the phone.. The technical product range is vast, we use them because of the quality of their waterborne products, and ceiling paint (AR2).. sorry, I sound like I’m sponsored by them (..I’m not 😂).. I get what you’re saying on timings (and price), but to be honest we would have still taken two days if manually painting.. the sprayed finish can’t be beaten, customers are seriously impressed.. in fact, the proof is that we’re actually back at this very house now spraying the hall, stairs and landing.. comprising of 10 doors, it’s a big space 😆 ..If you’re thinking of venturing into spraying, it’s worth it, even if you just spray the ceilings, for the flat finish and it’s less stress on the body.. check out the Graco GX range of sprayers 👍 I’d also help you every step.. thanks for your question, great hearing from you.. keep in touch. Pete 😊 (sorry for the essay)
@@PaintHQ thanks for the reply loads of info. 👍🏻I’m no stranger to spraying but I used to do a lot of multi flek finishes back In The day .I will be going for it got some lockdown cash burning a hole 😁😁 keep the videos coming
you’re very welcome 👍 I have heard of multi flek 😊 ..I have a lot of respect for time served painters and decorators and their experience of products ‘back in the day’.. anything I can do to help on your spraying journey, I’ll do my best.. you won’t look back and your investment will pay for itself.. thanks for the support, I very much appreciate it 💯
Hey Pete. Hope you’re well! I had an issue whilst spraying a ceiling today with the Graco cordless. Mist coat and thinned 1st coat went on like a dream with the 517 tip and I was really happy with the finish. For the final coat I added a little water. Was using Leyland Matt White. I thought there was too much going on with a 517 in danger of orange peel effect! so I reduced the tip size to 410. I think it kept clogging as the spray fan only came out of the left hand side of the tip.😳 Was the paint too thick for this size tip? Do I just have to move quicker with a 517?!😁Or increase my pressures?
Hey Jonny, apologies for not replying sooner.. your logic is spot on.. What you was spraying sounds too thick for a 410, with the irregular fan.. but like you say too fast for a 517 (a mist can be forgiving because the fresh platter quickly sucks up the watered down material).. if I recall the handheld comes with a 514, that might of worked.. some materials are problematic to spray, even for the bigger main pumps. I often find a TriTech 616 sprays well with the handheld, when I’ve had unexpected trouble spraying with other tips.. This video, you see me do a comparison between a 616 and a 515 th-cam.com/video/ni7clOjuM98/w-d-xo.html ..it’s worth also noting, the handheld has a recommended tip size .008 - .016 ..The handheld would have to work hard to keep up the flow of .017 tip ..This video explains and demos the flow rate of various tips.. th-cam.com/video/0Q7LrmeMs3w/w-d-xo.html I have to say, well done for realising how a product was spraying and your logic to think I need to react to this situation.. you’ll have plenty of success ahead spraying my friend 👌👍😆 ..Regards Pete
@@PaintHQ hi Pete. Thanks for getting back to me. Thank you also for your detailed explanation. It turns out I was using the 514 tip originally I got confused. But as you say, the mist coat is forgiving as it soaks in quickly. I thought it might have been a faulty tip but water seems to fan through it ok. I’ll be sure to catch up on your videos and keep persevering. Many thanks again
@@PaintHQ Só Pete! The next part of this project is…..the bedroom. Open plan Kitchen lounge. All new plaster. Walls one colour , ceilings white, with the addition of an extra colour on a feature wall in the lounge. Joiner doesn’t want to install trim etc until new wood floor is down. So far I’ve mist coated. To proceed would you wait until the trim was installed. Caulk, Fill, Prime and Finish. Then do walls and ceiling? Or give the walls one coat then finish coat after trim has been installed and sprayed?
I’ve had that very dilemma.. whilst it’s nice spraying when you don’t have floor protection to think about.. but it’ll be far less problematic to let the joiner install floor, skirting and get all the carpentry complete.. then mask the floor, use hard floor protection such as Trimaco X-Board and prep / spray your woodwork.. then walls (I’d spray feature wall first), then finally mask all walls and spray ceiling 👍 ..You done right by mist coating, but yeah let the joiner complete their part, leaving you to finish off.. keep me posted buddy.. regards Pete
Hi. So I'm interested getting one to. Apparently this are to be used for only 100L of paint before you have to change the pump.... did you had any problems with the pump? Have you changed it by now since you have been using the sprayer? Thanks
Hello my friend, thanks for your question.. The Graco Ultra Handheld gets an unjustified bad reputation because they get purchased for the wrong reason.. the unit is designed for small projects and touching up previously sprayed work, basically to compliment the bigger sprayers.. the project in this video is the maximum size for me, any bigger and I would have used my Graco 395.. do you currently own a sprayer my friend?.. if not and your looking at getting into spraying, for the full airless experience, I recommend the GX21.. a great value sprayer that will work hard for you and not let you down.. otherwise, yeah this handheld is excellent and earned its keep time and time again and really helped me on projects.. this video shows everything you need to know about the Graco Ultra Handheld, even some info about looking after the Triax pump and why it could wear prematurely if not used and maintained properly th-cam.com/video/orU3L1PL2bE/w-d-xo.html It’s a pleasure to have you contributing to the channel, keep in touch.. I’ll help you anytime, any way I can.. please subscribe, it’ll be great to hear what you decide to do.. regards Pete 🎨💯
@@PaintHQ thanks for the prompt response, i thought that to, that this ultra max it's getting used on bigger projects that it's meant to, I was interested on it for doing my kitchen furniture, maybe a few doors to, small projects..... I had a look at gx211 also, clearly it's worth the extra money also the cordles version to, now I've seen the new 390 cordless, I can't decide which one 🤦♂️ I guess this sprayers would take you down rabbit hole, like the difference between ultra and gx21 there's a difference between gx21 and 390 but is it worth the money 🤦♂️🤷♂️😂 All the best and keep doing this cool videos your doing 👍
You’re very welcome, anytime.. feel free to ask questions in future and I’ll do my best to help.. yeah it is a bit of a rabbit hole 🙈 ..I’m not a salesman when I say this, just as a professional painter.. I do rate the GX21, and I know from others that it’s a highly respected machine in the painting / spraying world.. I also like the introduction of the cordless GX21, but it’s quite a bit of an extra investment.. I’m at the National Painting and Decorating Show, 23rd and 24th November 2021, Coventry.. it’s a free ticket show, if that’s accessible to you at all.. I’ll be on the SpraymanUK stand (again, I’m not sponsored 🙈).. just always good to meet people for a chat, and it might be an opportunity for you to take a look at the sprayers 👍 ..Keep in touch and let me know how you get on.. regards Pete
sir you use different different tip way use every time for different different paint defrant defrant tip & what is tip fuction exactly way always use defrant defrant tip can me explain because long time confused.
Hi Sandeep.. happy to help and explain if I can my friend.. the tips I tend to use more than any is .008, .010 and .015 ..to explain these numbers, they are the orifice size (size of the hole in the tip).. it ultimately dictates the flow of paint, how much paint is sprayed per minute.. BUT a big factor in that result, is the paint viscosity (the paint thickness / how easily the paint flows free).. so a .008 tip I use for low viscosity / very thin paint that is close to water in consistency.. waterborne clear lacquer and opaque enamels.. a .010 tip I use for waterborne trim / woodwork paint that is thicker in viscosity to what I’ve previously described.. these paints can also be used with a brush / roller.. then the .015 tip (or a .014).. I use these tips to spray emulsion (wall and ceiling paints).. so to conclude, my main tip selection is a 208, 308, 210, 310 and 515.. the first number in these tips is the fan width, so a 208 and 210 is a approx 4” fan width, a ‘3’ is a 6” fan.. and the 515 produces a 10” fan approximately 👍 ..hope this helps my friend, keep in touch.. happy to help if I can.. regards Pete
Very good questions my friend.. I did have a ‘teething problem’ in the early days (before this video), where the bearing has came out it’s housing.. This was a first for the engineer.. I have to say, the support you get from Graco is first class, they really do want to get you back up and running ASAP.. regarding the smaller FFLP tips, because I would be using thinner trim / woodwork paints, I don’t thin.. I only add a splash of water to thicker emulsions, just to ease the flow and keep the speed at around 5-7.. I never use the gun flat out (speed 10).. along with proper good cleaning, not overworking the gun will prolong the life of the pump.. they’re a great compliment to the bigger pumps that you use day in day out.. hope this helps my friend, keep in touch.. regards Pete 🎨
I typically spray on speed 4 with low viscosity lacquers and a .008 tip.. then speed 7 or 8 when spraying a higher viscosity / thicker emulsion and a LP 515 ..how does your pump behave when spraying water with the tip guard removed?.. especially if you turn the pump upside down, like you do when cleaning, so prime for a few seconds then spray.. with the pump upside down you’re eliminating any priming issue related to the cup seal / FlexLiner / Vacuvalve.. general rule is if you can’t spray water, then the pump is ‘end of life’.. let me know how it goes, I’m more than happy to help any way I can 🙏.. regards Pete 🙏
@@PaintHQ hi Pete. Once properly rinsed with water at the end of the job I put it on 4 and I get click, click, click it won't spray. Think you are right, need a new pump unfortunately. Thank you for the response.
Hey Jeff, thanks for your question.. these machines are designed for small projects and touch ups.. to prolong the life, I’d keep the speed as low as possible (not flat out on 10), take breaks spraying.. then really I’m only using the one battery charge to setup the gun, spray a project and clean up.. This video gives more information on the Graco Ultra Handheld th-cam.com/video/orU3L1PL2bE/w-d-xo.html Do you currently use a sprayer my friend? I’m a big fan of these handhelds, quite a few of my videos feature then in action, but I don’t typically recommend it as a sole machine.. really it’s to compliment the bigger sprayer.. I do rate the GX21 and now the GX21 comes CORDLESS powered by the Dewalt FlexVolt battery.. keep in touch Jeff, let me know if I can help some more.. regards Pete
Hi Mario, thanks for your question.. This model in the video is the Ultra and can only spray water based material.. To be able to spray the additional oil based material, there’s the Ultra Max.. Let me know if I can be of any further help.. Regards Pete
Hey Costin, great to hear from you buddy.. on this project, I used the blue filter for spraying the woodwork / door and door frame.. then the black filter for the emulsions on the walls and ceiling.. hope this helps.. regards Pete
Hey James, great question.. you get 2 batteries, so with one charging and the other in operation I can vouch that you never run out of battery power 👍 ..I typically don’t use more than the one battery when spraying a small project, and that’s including the cleanup.. remember these small pumps are for smaller projects and touch up work, complimenting the bigger traditional airless sprayers.. happy to help advise and answer questions if I can, anytime my friend 🙏 regards Pete

Hey Bro, hope all is well!
Would you recommend this adhesion primer over oil based paint?

@@PaintHQ Hi Pete
Thanks for invaluable advice!
Much appreciated!
Anytime brother 🙏
This video, you see me do a comparison between a 616 and a 515
th-cam.com/video/ni7clOjuM98/w-d-xo.html
..it’s worth also noting, the handheld has a recommended tip size .008 - .016 ..The handheld would have to work hard to keep up the flow of .017 tip ..This video explains and demos the flow rate of various tips..
th-cam.com/video/0Q7LrmeMs3w/w-d-xo.html
I have to say, well done for realising how a product was spraying and your logic to think I need to react to this situation.. you’ll have plenty of success ahead spraying my friend 👌👍😆 ..Regards Pete
You’re very welcome, anytime 👍
The Graco Ultra Handheld gets an unjustified bad reputation because they get purchased for the wrong reason.. the unit is designed for small projects and touching up previously sprayed work, basically to compliment the bigger sprayers.. the project in this video is the maximum size for me, any bigger and I would have used my Graco 395.. do you currently own a sprayer my friend?.. if not and your looking at getting into spraying, for the full airless experience, I recommend the GX21.. a great value sprayer that will work hard for you and not let you down.. otherwise, yeah this handheld is excellent and earned its keep time and time again and really helped me on projects.. this video shows everything you need to know about the Graco Ultra Handheld, even some info about looking after the Triax pump and why it could wear prematurely if not used and maintained properly

@@PaintHQ thanks for the prompt response, i thought that to, that this ultra max it's getting used on bigger projects that it's meant to, I was interested on it for doing my kitchen furniture, maybe a few doors to, small projects..... I had a look at gx211 also, clearly it's worth the extra money also the cordles version to, now I've seen the new 390 cordless, I can't decide which one 🤦♂️ I guess this sprayers would take you down rabbit hole, like the difference between ultra and gx21 there's a difference between gx21 and 390 but is it worth the money 🤦♂️🤷♂️😂
All the best and keep doing this cool videos your doing 👍
What was the total amount of hours it took you to do this job
sir you use different different tip way use every time for different different paint defrant defrant tip & what is tip fuction exactly way always use defrant defrant tip can me explain because long time confused.
How has the gun held up for you? Any cons? Do you thin your paint when using the smaller FFLP tips like 210, 310, 312 etc.?
@@PaintHQ Thank you for the info. I'm looking forward to spraying with it.
You’re very welcome my friend, anytime.. be sure to let me know how you get on 💯👌👍😆
My graco ultra max will not spray unless I choose spray strength 4.5/10 or above. Does this mean my pump needs replacement?
You’re very welcome my friend.. yeah you’re right it does sound like the pump is end of life unfortunately ☹️
excelente método y explicación
gracias salvador aprecio tus amables comentarios .. mantente en contacto .. saludos Pete
How many hours can it be used to avoid overwork?
Hey Jeff, thanks for your question.. these machines are designed for small projects and touch ups.. to prolong the life, I’d keep the speed as low as possible (not flat out on 10), take breaks spraying.. then really I’m only using the one battery charge to setup the gun, spray a project and clean up.. This video gives more information on the Graco Ultra Handheld
th-cam.com/video/orU3L1PL2bE/w-d-xo.html
Do you currently use a sprayer my friend? I’m a big fan of these handhelds, quite a few of my videos feature then in action, but I don’t typically recommend it as a sole machine.. really it’s to compliment the bigger sprayer.. I do rate the GX21 and now the GX21 comes CORDLESS powered by the Dewalt FlexVolt battery.. keep in touch Jeff, let me know if I can help some more.. regards Pete
Can you spray oil based paints? Or just latex?
Hi Mario, thanks for your question.. This model in the video is the Ultra and can only spray water based material.. To be able to spray the additional oil based material, there’s the Ultra Max.. Let me know if I can be of any further help.. Regards Pete
Hi
What mesh filter do you use ?
Blue or black ?
Hey Costin, great to hear from you buddy.. on this project, I used the blue filter for spraying the woodwork / door and door frame.. then the black filter for the emulsions on the walls and ceiling.. hope this helps.. regards Pete
Thanks Pete
You’re very welcome, anytime 💯
How long battery last
Hey James, great question.. you get 2 batteries, so with one charging and the other in operation I can vouch that you never run out of battery power 👍 ..I typically don’t use more than the one battery when spraying a small project, and that’s including the cleanup.. remember these small pumps are for smaller projects and touch up work, complimenting the bigger traditional airless sprayers.. happy to help advise and answer questions if I can, anytime my friend 🙏 regards Pete

Don't you guys sand the doors first before applying paint?

If only the pumps lasted longer than 200 litres 😞
Thanks for the feedback my friend.. I do agree, although I think the handheld gets a bad rap because people overwork them. If you keep the speed / pressure as low as possible (for me around 5.. 7 max), clean them thoroughly, they will last.. They’re intended to compliment the big sprayers, for small jobs.. mine has been worth it’s weight in gold, paid for itself multiple times over.. All the best buddy, thanks for the comment.. Pete
