Hi Pete, Great video, thanks for posting. Having studied all your videos I thought I’d learned most things, but there’s always a nugget to be found. For me it was your use of the letter opener to cut the pre-taped film. I used this film once and got in an awful mess trying to cut it with a Stanley knife! Lesson learned. With thanks and best wishes, Rob
Hey Rob, that’s great to hear my friend.. and I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you for the support you’ve shown the PaintHQ channel, right from the the start 🙏 ..You’re a diamond 👏👏👏😆
Hi Pete, great to see you with another video. I can honestly say the ultra is my most used item in my Armoury. I hear people saying it's broken on them after about 20ltrs of paint. I'm easily into three figures now with the same pump. I can blast out a full house of moulded coving and ceilings roses etc in no time (no power on some old houses being rebuilt so i cannot use the gx21). I don't do it all in one go because of the pressure on the machine but I've not had one single problem with mine. Cleaned every time and pump armour every use. Feature walls, bathroom ceilings, doors & frames. Did some fascia & soffit not long ago..... You look after the tools and they will look after you. It's paid for itself 100 times over already buddy 👍🏻
Hi daniel have you looked at the graco gxff cordless machine it looks superb and would be ideal where there is no power and it could handle more spraying
@@eddiecotter7201 I've got a gx21 which was just bought before the cordless was released. It'll be a bit of a money waste to purchase the cordless unit unless I could sell my gx for decent money so to speak.
Hi Daniel, you’re very wise and thank you for a great insight into how you’re using and looking after your handheld.. it’s awesome to hear you’re having plenty of success my friend 🙏
@@eddiecotter7201 not as I know to. But I do know a cordless would benefit me better. I sprayed a gate at the front of a driveway the other day. 13ft x 8ft. Had to have a 20m cable trailing across the driveway which causes sisters to lose power.
Loving the versatility of using different machines on different projects just goes to show how spraying is the way forward in the trade good video Pete
Well done pete you got a really nice clean line where the ceiling meets the grout and some really cool tips on how to keep the plastic film in place using tape doubled over, excellent stuff, the full length plastic film is great for covering the whole room too,I have the graco ultra max myself and watching your video inspires me to use it on the next small ceiling job where normally I use a brush and roller
Hi Edmond, yeah over the years I’ve completed many ceilings like this with a brush / roller.. it was very time consuming and tricky.. in comparison it’s a quick process to mask and everything automatically gets protected.. like I say it’s worth getting it right first time and tacking down potential problem areas.. then simply spray 😆 ..Plus I much prefer cleaning the handheld out Vs a brush / roller / tray / scuttle etc 😆 ..go for it my friend 👍 Keep in touch and let me know how you get on.. regards Pete
Hay bro I’ve ordered a new pump for my ultra max … i tried everything so on it’s way I can get all my trim done now thanks for your help keep the videos coming 🙏🏽
Great video as always Pete, similar to a comment below, I’ve used mine a bit (nowhere near as much as you) and I need a new pump already as it takes so much to clean it, that’s why I think the GX21 is easier as just attached to hosepipe. Nice result on the ceiling though. All the best
Hi Steve, you’re so kind, I appreciate your feedback.. so glad you’re having success with the GX21 and you’ve embraced spraying.. you’re doing great my friend 🙏 ..regards Pete
On such a small area I bet I could have done it quicker with a brush and roller and much less masking up however each their own I’d be more interested in this machine on spraying wardrobes cabinets doors etc Thanks 🤠👌

Hi Pete how’s it going. I like my one but takes a whiles to clean out compared to my new Graco GX21FF (which I am loving BTW) I wish there was an adaptor for it so it could be just flushed through without having to put wear and tear on the pump, because they aren’t know for their longevity are they. Good evening Pete I did try it out with my ultra max it is still spitting … tried a different gasket don’t no I’ll try it out some more then contact graco as you sent a link for this
Apologies for not replying sooner.. I had the opportunity to speak to a Graco rep and discuss the spitting issue.. a residue of paint can build up in outlet check valve (it's the part where the tip guard would screw on to and basically it's a CleanShot valve that prevents the spit).. the component can be unscrewed and cleaned but it's not easy without a 'special' tool.. in future, I'll make a video on this as it is a fix that's possible by the end user.. In the meantime, best course of action is to access Graco support via the form / link, I'm confident one way or another they will get the problem fixed.. either via a service centre or send you out a replacement outlet check valve (the complete valve can be unscrewed with a wrench).. especially if your unit is under warranty.. quick question, are you in the UK my friend?.. let me know how you get on my friend.. regards Pete.
Very often these HH units get purchased and used for the wrong application.. they’re designed to compliment the bigger Graco Airless units, for touch up jobs and small projects.. the HH has been invaluable to me, earning me money many times over.. spraying a door, small runs of trim.. spraying low viscosity material at low pressure (speed 4), through a .008 tip.. or spraying a small ceiling like in this video 😆 ..failures can occur when they get overworked, flat out (speed 10), for too long and not cleaned and stored properly (using Pump Armor).. hope this helps my friend.. regards Pete
Another great video thanks. I've looked at the little sprayer a few times, wasn't sure if it was worth it as I've got a GX21FF, but it does appear to make a lot of sense for smaller areas such as that. Great little tip to stop the masking lifting too.
Hey buddy, you’ve got a great sprayer in the GX21FF 💯 ..The handheld units are a great compliment, I can honestly say I love using it at any opportunity for small jobs.. beats using and having to wash out a brush / roller / tray etc 😆 ..Thanks so much for your support 🙏 regards Pete
Hey Joe, thanks for your question.. beauty of spraying emulsion, you can push the boundaries Vs brush / roller, ie you’re not going to drag a finish, like you would with a roller if the paint wasn’t 100% dry.. with ceilings, it’s not going to run, so you could cross hatch to a finish, spray one way and then straight over the other.. I prefer to have a coffee / a break, then go again.. so approx 30 minutes to an hour (with ceilings) 👍 ..walls, I would wait 1-2 hours, get some good air flow and push the drying time.. just be wary of acrylics, overloading the thickness, you can get crazing if laying on too fast 👍 ..hope this helps, keep in touch my friend.. regards Pete

The Graco Ultra is without any doubt The worst tool I ever have bought during my 35 years as a painter. The pump gets clogged just by leaving the sprayer a couple of hours and the only repair is a full 300$ replacement of the pump. A very good business model for Graco to sell a low quality product for a premium price and sell spare parts for over the moon prices

Great video but terrible cleaning techniques. Simply remove paint pot, then hold gun upside down under a running tap and spray and prime until clean. Way quicker than keep filling pots of clean water and saves ware on the pump.
