Yes to the sprayer for large areas inside and out, but no to spray tips (£60), extension rod (£90), guns & hoses. Accessories are extortionate. Cheaper to hire guns 'n roses to paint your house.
A tip for cleanup. Remove the plastic filter and black plastic filter holder from the bottom of the pickup tube. Remove the pickup tube and empty the paint out before using any water. clean the tube and refit. Then in prime mode put the pickup in clean water and spray (with the nozzle turned backwards) into a bucket with a liner until water comes out to remove the paint from the spray hose. After that run 1 - 2 buckets of clean water through the system followed by a quick clean up of nozzle and you're done. It takes me about 10 mins total to clean up. I use to do what you did and put the pickup full of paint with the filter on the end into a clean bucket and start flushing but due to the excess paint in the tubes it took way longer and 5-6 buckets of clean water. Loving the channel 👍
When you e finished spraying empty your hose back into the paint so you don’t waste all the paint still inside the hose, filter and machine pipes. your cleaning time will be halved. Also buy some round bottle brushes to help keep your gun and filter housing super clean. I pretty much wrapped my second machine in cling film and masking tape to keep the cling film in place, the hose also to help keep it all clean and looking like new. Once you get it shit up with paint splatter it just makes it look shit so you don’t take as time to care for it, these machines are brilliant if kept clean and looked after. That's definitely great advice. I learned how much was left in there when I needed to finish a room and had no more paint. I was amazed at how much more paint there was in the machine and hose.
My tips for using this kit. 1. Get a whip hose as it will massively reduce wrist strain when using the sprayer for long periods of time. 2. Buy a Trade Tip 3 tip holder as this allows additional tips to be used including Fine Finish for gloss work. 3. Reduce the pressure, use a piece of cardboard as a test piece to ensure even spray pattern starting at a low pressure and fine tuning pressure. 4. Make sure you use the pencil filter in the gun as it traps loads or debris and allows continuous spraying (ime). 5. Never take short cuts when cleaning everything, whilst parts aren’t ridiculously expensive, they can take time to arrive and it gets tedious changing them in you’ve not cleaned everything properly (DAMHIK!). 6. It is possible to return paint held in the machine / hose on cleaning back to the paint can by setting tip to purge on low pressure, dunk the pick up un clean water and running to through until it gets watery, then run through into a bucket. I wouldn’t be without my sprayer!

I've not taken it out the box yet, as I wanted to wait until I've got a whole week clear. It's due to masking-up and cleaning time required. However, I have done 4 rooms (kitchen & bathrooms) using an HVLP for the corners and wide roller for the larger areas. This worked well, but took a long time to do 1 mist coat and 2 top coats, and I still had to mask around switches, windows, etc. In retrospect, if I'd used my Wagner from the start in the smaller rooms, I probably would have saved time and/or got more rooms done. I can't see myself ever using this for a refresh job. Just too much aerosol floating around. The biggest con is the price of nozzles. I can buy an entire small engine carburettor for less than a new Wagner nozzle, and there's dozens of different options depending on the paint and coverage you want. It's akin to printer ink rip-off in my opinion. And that small extension used in the video is nearly £100. Daylight robbery for a simple piece of plumbing.
I am a paint training professional in all types of spraying equipment airless and conventional spraying. I have for home use a Wagner 350 airless unit low pressure gun. To be honest there is NO way you can spray airless with a gun extension without getting spitting out of the fluid tip, even on short extensions. You will need a CleanShot Shut-Off Valve - Swivel Joint from Grace fitted to the end of the extension to prevent paint spits when pulling or releasing the gun trigger. You get spitting when using any length of gun extension which can be very annoying and can spoil the paint job.
As part of my later in life jobs, I did carpentry and made furniture, part of it was spray staining the wood and then spray lacquering the finished item. Point being that there's an art to spraying, as Cameron says, spray straight on and do NOT linger, a puddle of lacquer is not good, nor are paint runs :) As for buying one, as Cameron also says, only worth it if you are going to be constantly making use of it, one off stuff, use a roller. Great video again, love the variety of stuff you are covering old man...Good on yer..
Thanks for the honest review, it confirmed my belief that these have their specific use case like empty room renovations and if you fit that then great, but there’s a lot of prep and a lot of cleanup. I would be doubtful using this outside, can’t see me masking off the concrete fence posts or garden bushes! I have a cheap Lidl sprayer that does surprisingly well for fence panels etc
Thank you. Always worth seeing what a professional has to say about a piece of kit and its 'real' world use. One big con for me other than time in cleaning the machine. Is the cost of it. As a homeowner with 2 bedrooms to decorate at £469 or more. Not V.F.M IMHO.
Good point I brought mine on ebay refurbished Lidl special for £46, did my entire house post refurbished with it, only issue now is touching up. It gave such a smooth finish its impossible to match unless you spray again or roller the entire wall 😂😂😂
So we bought this very machine to do a large bedroom and it was a real faff protecting everything. In our case the room had old carpet down so we decided not to protect it as it was going to be removed, however, by the end of the job the carpet was almost as white as the ceiling. The finish was perfect but we noticed we used twice as much paint Vs rollers, plus I felt bad about all that single use plastic going to landfill. Finally, a lot of paint is wasted through the gun and associated tubing and when you get close to the bottom of the tub you lose pickup. Would I use it again, NO but I will use it to spray my fence panels which is a bit of an overkill as my cheap Aldi sprayer does that perfectly well. Finally, you cannot use this machine for anything other that 5 litre tubs so forget furniture spraying because most of the 2.5ltr pots are virtually empty before you get it primed. Would I buy it again, definitely not
Yeah. Super heavy on paint. I use Little Greene emulsion which made spraying rooms expensive. I went back to rollers. Also, touching up a sprayed finish doesn’t work unless you spray the touch up
Yes I have just had this experience! The overspray and waste is crazy. Took 6 cans of paint vs 3 with a roller. The whole room gets filled with paint in the air. The finish is amazing but I'm very upset about this purchase from watching this video.
I will stick to a roller and bin it after use, no messing about cleaning equiptment. Also you cannot touch up sprayed surfaces at a later date, rollered or brushed surfaces you can.
Just watched this nice finish to keep the m/c clean drop a black bin bag over but if it's not letting enough air in use old net curtains car boots brilliant for them keeps it clean all over why not fit a barb fitting when end in the pipe other end hose pipe a lot quicker
They are a great time saver. The problem I found is when you need to touch up spots months/years down the line and you use a brush, you never seem to get the same finish/colour (even using the same paint).
The colour may have faded but you can smooth the finished surface sanding to try get it closer.Using trade paint like dulux costs more but it has anti fade and should last more like 10 years as opposed to retail off the shelf 5 years.
I purchased a Wagner "350 Extra' to paint a house I am building. I have lots of windows, around 40, so do not underestimate the prep time of masking. Ideally leave off doors and if a new build, spray everything before carpentry, electrical or plumbing second fix. I reckon a sprayer uses more paint than a roller or brush. I would not recommend spraying for a DIY job as preparation takes way too long. Also, if you have carpets down be extra careful to protect. Practice does improve the finish. When you get it right the finish is excellent. I'm not convinced my investment, around £450 when new in 2022 was worth it.
If painting feature walls, what is the best masking tape that will not simply pull the last coat of the ceiling or adjacent walls? Do you have to wait for an extended time to do so?
Bin liner over the unit keeps the mist off it. I set up in one room, sprayed it, then was able to reach 3 other rooms due to the length of hose it comes with. Bit of a luxury tool. But I got it second hand at a 1/3 of the price. Only used on one job. So great bargain
How do you find later down the line when you want to touch up or repaint to freshen the room? The wall is very smooth compared to a roller. If you had to repaint - furniture, carpets etc woud be in the way sometimes. Would you spray or roller. Would it be advantageous for the last finish coat to just run a roller over the sprayed wall to make it more in keeping for a repaint?
When cleaning remove the guard/tip spray excess paint back into the paint tin (same with priming) then when when see what only then spray/clean through into a waste bucket
Get yourself a Graco CleanShot for when you use the extension mate. Decent video. As a general builder I do all my own decorating and embraced spraying a few years back. I’ve got a few machines now and have got my techniques down. It’s so much easier than brush and roller.
I've bought one of these units after watching your video and wanted to know if you also experienced the gun losing pressure regularly and the pump all of a sudden running at a higher speed. Quite possibly a newbie issue but I found the pipes would move around and if even with there being a 1/3 of the bucket full of paint the bottom of the suction hose would come above the paint, requiring me to reprime. Also have you tried using this unit to paint trims? I could not get an even coat to come out using Leyland Eggshell for wood paint and the 311 tip. I diluted the paint also and just couldn't get an even spray.
Great video as always but might I suggest a supplemental covering tips for "parking" the equipment between coats, and / or prepping between colour / basecoat / topcoat changes?
Question: when I use wagner sprayer the paint peel when i use finger nail to scratch the wall does that mean I did not water down the paint properly I am using layland contract matt as my first mist coat on a newly plaster wall. Any suggestion would be welcome Note: I am just a DIY guy

I am really interested in this for our extension/renovation as it will all be one colour and we have vaulted ceilings to paint. One downside I have heard is when you need to touch up marks. apparently the spary finish is so even that any brushwork to cover marks will stick out like a sore thumb.
just bought one of these. thought i would just try it out with water but i get a drip from the nozzle hoping it because its thin viscosity and it will be ok with paint. Any ideas?
You will get much better spray pattern when using actual paint (with higher viscosity, indeed). Watch some YT videos explaining different markings of the tips.
I have a lot of painting to do (a house), but don't fancy having this pricey machine hanging around once I'm done. What's your view on cheaper machines, e.g. the Wagner 950, or Wagner W690? What would I be losing out on with one of those?
Totally understandable. I don’t have the experience with the cheaper machines but I think they may well have there place! I’d advise checking out some other videos to try and get a definitive answer to your question 👍
@@fiestygemini2379 I'm sure I could hire one (London-based). But the weekly prices of rental are comparable to the W950 purchase price, so it's necessary to understand the relative merits.
I’m new to spraying. I can’t find one good video on here on how to put the rubber gasket in the tip when setting the tip up they go to put the rubber gasket in They seem to zoom out. I know it’s simple once done, but the problem is I’ve never done it before.
So if you were to use oil based paint in this you would replace water with turpentine to clean it out? I can’t imagine how much that would require and to dispose of after…
Just to clarify. Your paint need not be watered down when using the sprayer for general use however when mist coating I like to do two watered down coats before adding top coats.
I sprayed our entire (4 bed) house before we moved in. A day to clean and mask it up. A day to spray all of it twice. I used a Graco handheld 110 Volt unit and 240/ 110 volt transformer. Both from American Amazon. Far cheaper than Graco’s European offerings. I _nearly_ got that Wagner unit but the clean up put me off.
Hi, great video. I've been struggling to find what paint to use as well as finish. I've seen the Dulux you used in a local store....and at a very good price. I'm assuming you'd recommend it as the finish does look great or is the finish because of the spray?
@@TheDIYGuy1 cheers, I better stock up then,I've got a lot to do lol. Sorry if you've already said but can you say what settings, nozzle etc you used? I might not need the extension as I'm 6'4 🤣 local hiring is about £ 130 for the weekend or slightly more for the week... should I buy or rent 🤷
if you take the little pipe off and prime it with just water it will clean the machine part much quicker then all you gotta do is pull clean fresh water through the hose and gun its much quicker that way
Looks a great piece of kit mate! Did you get any blocking of the jet on the gun when leaving between coats? Or was a quick purge good enough to carry straight onto second coat?
I didn’t. I always turn my nozzle half way to reduce air being able to get into the nozzle. It was left a number of hours and had no issues carrying straight on.
To me....the major problem with spraying inside is the overspray. And the fact that you need everything either out of the room, or push everything to the center, with a tarp, over it all. And......everything has to be masked off. Lots of labor needed and material for that, vs just rolling and brushing.
Perfect timing of this video for me. I've managed to get hold of one of these sprayers to paint a full house. Did you water down the 2nd coat as muchh as the most coat?
Yup, that filter in the handle is the one that clogs up the most It's a great bit of kit though, but with only two rooms of the house left to decorate, it's going to be a bit overkill to get one
You chose a spray gun that is different to the one that came with the unit. The spray gun you are using is very expensive. Please do a video about this gun and the one that came with the unit.
He talks about wearing ppe but when it comes to panting the walls he didn’t have his mask or goggles on 😂 love your content tho I’ll always watch you what ever you do 👌🤘
If you can learn to do it yourself then yes I would say go for it. It takes time to get any good though so I have a builder friend do mine and do some work for him in return.
I like the idea of a sprayer, but it's the clean up that puts me off the most. The time saved over using a roller is lost in the laborious cleaning process
You really should roll the wall after painting. If you get a 24" roller it goes very very fast. This will eliminate runs and give your surface an even texture. Also should only have to put down one coat.
Do you think paint sprayers are worth it now you’ve seen the pros and cons?
I remain unconvinced about the time savings - it was particularly the masking I was thinking of, but clean up looks like a real time drain - esp if you have to do that to change colours etc. With a roller, you can just wrap the roller in a bag, move onto the next colour, carry on.

@@jaystepien921Do you add water to it? I have found that it doesn't spray as well and I have three HBOP guns and one airless and I'm scared to death to use the airless because of how much paint it uses
One for the algo. Great channel.
Thanks 😊
I am really interested in this for our extension/renovation as it will all be one colour and we have vaulted ceilings to paint. One downside I have heard is when you need to touch up marks. apparently the spary finish is so even that any brushwork to cover marks will stick out like a sore thumb.
Give one a go. The downside is correct however worth it in my opinion
Just back roll it after spraying
Perfect for the colour drenching trend
How do u mask the ceiling off when doing different colour?
When spraying You usually do the ceiling last and mask the walls off using drop cloth
Thank you for your sharing!
Your welcome 🤗
just bought one of these. thought i would just try it out with water but i get a drip from the nozzle hoping it because its thin viscosity and it will be ok with paint.
I think these can be rented, depending on where you live.
@@fiestygemini2379 I'm sure I could hire one (London-based). But the weekly prices of rental are comparable to the W950 purchase price, so it's necessary to understand the relative merits.
How do you mask if you are painting the ceiling and walls different colors?
Mask along the wall/ceiling line with a lightweight plastic dust sheet
Thanks. An informative video
I’m new to spraying. I can’t find one good video on here on how to put the rubber gasket in the tip when setting the tip up they go to put the rubber gasket in They seem to zoom out. I know it’s simple once done, but the problem is I’ve never done it before.
Great honest video as ever thanks for sharing mate 😎
No problem 👍
Many decorators on new sites use these for the mist coats.
👍 a good use for them
Whats the sprayer tip you use on this video please?
so did you get it for note because your doing a blog
did you dilute paint at all or use as is?
Loved your video, by the way, which nozzle tip where you using and how much water are you putting in there?
Excellent content and edit. Top job
Much appreciated!
Where do you pour all the waste water?
how do the googles help when they are on the head?
They keep my head warm
I'd really love to see a comparison of this vs other known brands which are considerably cheaper such as mikita etc
So if you were to use oil based paint in this you would replace water with turpentine to clean it out? I can’t imagine how much that would require and to dispose of after…
I noticed there's 2 hoses at the base of the machine, are they both priming hoses ?
One is the pick-up/supply. The other is the priming hose.
@@TheDIYGuy1Thanks good info in the video 👍👍
Very good / clear demonstration………
Glad it was helpful!
Why wouldn't your drain tube be outside of the paint initially?
Great video, Always the best videos
Glad you like them!
21st century painting altho graco is your boy for spraying brush and roller are a thing of the past
Used to spray but mate's would ring and we'd be off to golf, next day blues' cleaning the bloody things, just buy roller's 😅
Can you show us how to use it for cutting in please?
Just use frog tape and sheet off the adjoining wall/ceiling and you will get the perfect straight line 👍
How long did it take to clean it?
It takes around 15 minutes to give it a proper clean out
I spray painted my whole self build house. I hired a professional sprayer, easy and quick
For the second cost did you use paint with no water in it?
Just to clarify. Your paint need not be watered down when using the sprayer for general use however when mist coating I like to do two watered down coats before adding top coats.
I sprayed our entire (4 bed) house before we moved in. A day to clean and mask it up. A day to spray all of it twice. I used a Graco handheld 110 Volt unit and 240/ 110 volt transformer. Both from American Amazon. Far cheaper than Graco’s European offerings. I _nearly_ got that Wagner unit but the clean up put me off.
Thanks for sharing 😊
What a truly beautiful video this is all I'm allowed to say Ney free gifts
When are you going to do a video on making the work bench?, or have I missed it🤔
You haven’t missed it! I will be doing it once my new workshop is built 😊. Sorry for the delay on this one
Hi, great video. I've been struggling to find what paint to use as well as finish. I've seen the Dulux you used in a local store....and at a very good price. I'm assuming you'd recommend it as the finish does look great or is the finish because of the spray?
Thanks. The dulux white emulsion is generally quite good but the finish is mainly down to the sprayer
Anytime. The nozzles used was a 517 👍
Impressed !!
😎
if you take the little pipe off and prime it with just water it will clean the machine part much quicker then all you gotta do is pull clean fresh water through the hose and gun its much quicker that way
it will suck the water up through the big tube then out through the little one so that part cleans quick
👍
Looks a great piece of kit mate! Did you get any blocking of the jet on the gun when leaving between coats? Or was a quick purge good enough to carry straight onto second coat?
I didn’t. I always turn my nozzle half way to reduce air being able to get into the nozzle. It was left a number of hours and had no issues carrying straight on.
Nice, man.
Nice and concise, thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
To me....the major problem with spraying inside is the overspray. And the fact that you need everything either out of the room, or push everything to the center, with a tarp, over it all. And......everything has to be masked off. Lots of labor needed and material for that, vs just rolling and brushing.
Great video thank you. I hope Dulux and Wagner are paying you lots of money...... Cheers.
I wish! 😂, thanks
It's a good idea to wear your safety spec's when painting the ceiling and not hold them in your hand !! 🤣 good bit of kit that.
Love the channel
Thanks 😊
Very good video 👍
Thank you 👍
Looks awesome pal. It's a pity the machine is so bloody expensive 😮
Do you have any idea how I can get one for free 😂😂😂
Haha I’m afraid I dont
Can you spray over those tattoos?
Perfect timing of this video for me. I've managed to get hold of one of these sprayers to paint a full house. Did you water down the 2nd coat as muchh as the most coat?
Brilliant! Your paint need not be watered down however when mist coating I like to do two watered down coats before adding top coats.
@@TheDIYGuy1thanks Cameron!
Anytime 👍
thanks good video
You're welcome
that green Nozzle costs around £50 to replace so best get than clean and look after it - not like I did!
Your right!
The whole room gets full of paint in the air. It’s been a nightmare. How could you do a feature wall it would go on the other walls surely?
Yup, that filter in the handle is the one that clogs up the most
It's a great bit of kit though, but with only two rooms of the house left to decorate, it's going to be a bit overkill to get one
Absolutely! Haha we won’t!
Do I need one? Currently, no.
Do I want one anyway? Abso-flippin-lutely 😂
😂😂 it’s a cool tool isn’t it
Biggest con is also having to fire up your sprayer to make minor touch ups, as rollers will never blend in on a sprayed wall
Graco watching this and thinking we are years ahead of ourselves 😅
Preparation takes longer than the spraying 😂
But well worth the investment in time to mask up properly.
👌 your right
great when there no furnature or beds in the room
You chose a spray gun that is different to the one that came with the unit. The spray gun you are using is very expensive. Please do a video about this gun and the one that came with the unit.
The spray gun came with the unit.
He talks about wearing ppe but when it comes to panting the walls he didn’t have his mask or goggles on 😂 love your content tho I’ll always watch you what ever you do 👌🤘
It’s pretty difficult to talk to camera and work so I always end up putting masks/glasses on and off and end up forgetting during filming.
@@TheDIYGuy1 only pulling your leg, we have all been there. I really enjoyed your video.
Thanks 👍
Would you prefer to diy plaster yourself or get a professional and why?
If you can learn to do it yourself then yes I would say go for it. It takes time to get any good though so I have a builder friend do mine and do some work for him in return.
wagner go from being mercenaries to painting your nans kitchens, they just do it all
Stuff that.
Stressed just watching. Pay to get the pros in.
Don't you back roll the ceilings?
I like the idea of a sprayer, but it's the clean up that puts me off the most. The time saved over using a roller is lost in the laborious cleaning process
Very true. But it’s much more fun to use!
Definitely need a better spray mask .
P3 filters .
Thanks.
You really should roll the wall after painting. If you get a 24" roller it goes very very fast. This will eliminate runs and give your surface an even texture. Also should only have to put down one coat.
I'd rather prepare for twice as long, than use a paint roller.
I still think rolling mist coat is better..
