Yeah, the charging cable is a strange choice. I appreciate that doing it like that means you don’t have to permanently alter the shell of the controller, but it’s still a weird design.
For those worried about the colors of the wires for the rumble motor... Dont. Its a DC motor if you reverse them the motor will just spin the opposite direction and with a rumble motor that wont matter it will still rumble 😊
Paired with the black dog technology controller port Bluetooth board. This thing modernizes the GameCube. You don’t need the dongle with the board so it just looks so clean compared to the wavebird.
It's great if you already have a GC controller. I've read rumors about Nintendo releasing a new GC controller for when they add it to the Switch Online so I think I'll wait for that and then get the 8bitdo wireless receiver to use on my Wii.
If that’s what you want to do then by all means do it. I’m skeptical that they are ever going to just release GC games on NSO like they did the other systems. The games seem like they’d be too big to bundle into a single app like they did with the older consoles.
@@TheCartCollector Yeah, I agree. It might (And hopefully) be a Virtual Console type situation where they'll sell individual GC games (Which I'm all for)
R button doesn’t seem to work with Luigi's Mansion for some reason, it works for the other games I've tried though. There's also an issue with making a z button press when you movr the controller around. It's a great mod though
8bitdo is currently aware of the Luigi's mansion issue and are working on a firmware update fix! The Z button press issue was theoretically fixed in the 1.1 (1.01?) firmware update to the adapter - there is also a firmware update for the controller, be sure to update both as most issues (other than Luigi's mansion) have been resolved as of last week
I love this but the battery life is actually pathethig. renember the wii u pro controller? that thing lasted for like a month without recharging. that was really cool.
Big con I see with this mod is that I get double input when playing on actual GameCube hardware with the 8bitdo receiver. I have not tried it on the Switch or any other device yet, but I suspect it’ll be the same. I’ve read on forums that this is a common problem with these 8bitdo mods, not sure though if it’s a membrane sensitivity issue or software problem. I have the same mod on my snes controller and I have not had any issues whatsoever with that one though.
I don’t know the hard numbers, but it feels just like using any Bluetooth controller on a modern system or PC. Just enough to notice, but short enough that you can easily adjust to it. Maybe not something you’d want to play competitive Melee with, but for hanging out with friends playing games or just enjoying something with lower stakes, it’s perfectly usable.
It could probably be made to work in one but you'd have to make a hole in the shell for the charging cable. Who knows, maybe it could be routed through the battery compartment instead.
I was against this mod because I don’t like the idea of converting a good or even repairable Nintendo controller just to make it a wireless 3rd party. Then I looked in a small tub and I have parts to build it from broken controllers. The front and back shell may not match though 😂
Does it work in multiplayer games? I bought a shit Chinese Bluetooth controller for my gc only to realize you can only play single player. Other controllers Bluetooth or wired won’t work if ur using it
You are the only reviewer of this mod kit that shows how to charge this thing. What a weird cable - thank you so much for this

I need a rumble mod for the wavebird, thats what i need.
If this board fits in a wavebird then maybe you can put something together!

I think the rumble options in Sunshine is on the main menu when you choosing a file to the far right
good video bro, very well explained

do you have to use their sticks, or can you re-use the OG ones?
the sticks it came with appeared to be normal replacement sticks. You should be able to use OG ones if the ones you have are still good.
@@TheCartCollector great news thanks
does anyone know the latency or delay of this mod? compared with wired

Do the sticks feel like og sticks?
yes, if you havent yet ordered one.
Would these work in a wavebird?
It could probably be made to work in one but you'd have to make a hole in the shell for the charging cable.

how do you recharge this controller?
I start covering that at roughly 12:45

I have a Wavebird, but I never want to use it. It feels wrong to play the games without vibration, if they meant to have it 😅

Yes it works on native hardware with multiplayer, no issues
GET AN EXTREME RATE SHELL
Color options are so limited :/ and no GameCube logo
@Nate.mp4 I got a transparent clear, and black buttons. Currently recording my youtube video on it, if you want, I'll link it when its ready.
