Welcome to my new creative endeavor! I have always been a collector at heart and at the core of that drive has been retro video games, specifically cartridge based games. I have a goal to collect the entire NA N64 library, so we'll see how that goes!
You can expect game reviews, collection talks, topic videos about the collection of old games, and who knows what else!

What was the 64th game acquired?
Bought a gamecube recently at a yard sale for 5 bucks. They said it works great. Took it home and the game spins up, then stops and no disc error. I opened it up, cleaned the laser, cleaned the inside, same issue. So I thought the laser would need to be replaced. Never replaced one for a gamecube, so then saw your video and thought, hey it already doesnt work. Lets learn how to adjust the laser potentiometer, if not working after that then order a new laser and see how it goes. I have a DOL-001. It currently read 178. I adjusted it to 184, same issue. The laser did move and light up, just disc would spin, then stop and no disc message. I then saw at the end it should be 450-600. So I adjusted it to 452. Now the disc wont even spin up at all. So I saw a comment here that said they adjusted it so low, to like 50, and it worked. So I lowered it to 103 and now it works perfectly fine. Wonder how long it will work before the laser needs to be replaced.
If it worked going that low, then the laser is still good, but the capacitors on the drive board are about shot. I did a video recently about recapping the very GameCube in this video so if you want to tackle that project yourself, then should get you back up to working well. It is a more difficult process though. But if I (an idiot) can manage it, then I’m sure you’d be able to do it too!
I own one of these. An absolute holy grail in my collection if you ask me. Their lovely, its a shame they flopped so bad, it was super ahead of its time
I got the Sega channel adapter console from the cable company. They never came by to pick it up.
Nice collection. Do you happen to have the Magnavox Odyssey 200?
how is the vibration fuction? does it work and is it strong like the ps2 controller?
Had a vectrex back in 91 from a yard sale...bet its worth something now, had asteroids built in.
Would these work in a wavebird?
Is it possible to invert thumb sticks? Want to play twilight princes on GameCube but the camera controls are backwards.
Thks everyone for giving GC love 🫡
replicated boxes?
Yeah. Replica boxes. Though I do have manuals and overlays got a lot of the games.
This is the EXACT video I needed. Thank you soo much. I have a Wii on the way and I’m def gonna be playing GC games and don’t wanna buy another controller so this is perfect. Cheers!
the psu is a bit on a low power side, I wouldn't risk it with cd and 32x at the same time, it might not be quite enough, or just barely enough.
GET AN EXTREME RATE SHELL
Color options are so limited :/ and no GameCube logo
@Nate.mp4 I got a transparent clear, and black buttons. Currently recording my youtube video on it, if you want, I'll link it when its ready.
Do the sticks feel like og sticks?
Doesn't support remapping. Sucks because I bought one to use my NSO SNES controller on Wii.
That’s super cool, thanks for the review! Do you think it would work with a switch pro controller? On the website it’s listed as compatible but I don’t know if it would respond properly 🤔
I actually cover a switch Pro Controller starting at 13:51! It does work, but you don’t have the analog section of the L and R buttons. So YMMV for actual usability. But if the game doesn’t require that section, then you’re golden!
@@TheCartCollector I just read that almost at the same time you said that in the video lol, that was fast! Thank you man it’s seems like a very usefull adapter
how do you recharge this controller?
I start covering that at roughly 12:45
@@TheCartCollector thx
You can connect a game boy advance with Metroid fusion to unlock the fusion suit and the original metroid game in metroid prime.
I’m gonna buy this and use my 8bitdo pro 2 on my Wii
im surprised your power board hasnt failed yet.
where did you get the arm holder to hold the board
So that’s a Panavise and it was actually a gift from my electrical engineer friend. He gave it to me when I started doing more soldering stuff. He said that it made things a lot easier for him when he got one and wanted to make sure I wasn’t struggling with things that didn’t need to be a problem (like holding a board steady). I don’t know where he got it, but you can get them on Amazon.
So I'm actually that electrical engineering friend who gave him the Panavise set up. The first one you see is the PANAVISE 324. it has the base and the larger circuit board holder. Unfortunately, amazon does not carry this any longer but you can get it on Panavice's website. The second circuit board holder he uses is the PANAVISE 217 Mini Circuit Board Holder Head. That fits into the 324 base but is designed for smaller circuit boards..... These are not the cheapest circuit board holders out there but they are the best IMO and I have done a lot of soldering on circuit boards. I also recommend you pick up the PANAVISE 303 vice head that fits in the 324 base. its a great small vice.
@ thank you!!!
@ thank you!!
I have the exact same problem! And im thinking of buying new caps. But I have a question, to remove the caps and attach the new ones, do I only need a hot gun and home iron?
I did it with just an iron and tweezers, so it is possible. The more tools you have though the easier it would be to do. The heat gun would make removing them a LOT easier.
@TheCartCollector thank you so much for your information! I think I will order new caps sometime and tell you if I fixed it
@@TheCartCollectorAnother question, I need to buy specific caps for my model and I don't know what revision of the drive I have. How do I check it? Is it written on the side where the pot is, or in the opposite one? And is it on the edge of the board?
@accurate_k I honestly don’t know. To be frank I didn’t think about needing specific caps for different board revisions and I bought a kit for mine without too much thought. The board they showed matched what mine looked like so I just rolled with it. Perhaps I just got lucky.
I just ordered the cartridge slot tray 😀
Does the port also act like a wired connection?
As far as I’m aware, no. It only is for updating the firmware or using it as a Bluetooth receiver for PC.
I still play tennis on mine
Always a good time!
You are the only reviewer of this mod kit that shows how to charge this thing. What a weird cable - thank you so much for this
Yeah, the charging cable is a strange choice. I appreciate that doing it like that means you don’t have to permanently alter the shell of the controller, but it’s still a weird design.
For those worried about the colors of the wires for the rumble motor... Dont. Its a DC motor if you reverse them the motor will just spin the opposite direction and with a rumble motor that wont matter it will still rumble 😊
Graphics don't matter, they say...
I was against this mod because I don’t like the idea of converting a good or even repairable Nintendo controller just to make it a wireless 3rd party. Then I looked in a small tub and I have parts to build it from broken controllers. The front and back shell may not match though 😂
does anyone know the latency or delay of this mod? compared with wired
I don’t know the hard numbers, but it feels just like using any Bluetooth controller on a modern system or PC. Just enough to notice, but short enough that you can easily adjust to it. Maybe not something you’d want to play competitive Melee with, but for hanging out with friends playing games or just enjoying something with lower stakes, it’s perfectly usable.
Big con I see with this mod is that I get double input when playing on actual GameCube hardware with the 8bitdo receiver. I have not tried it on the Switch or any other device yet, but I suspect it’ll be the same. I’ve read on forums that this is a common problem with these 8bitdo mods, not sure though if it’s a membrane sensitivity issue or software problem. I have the same mod on my snes controller and I have not had any issues whatsoever with that one though.
Does it work in multiplayer games? I bought a shit Chinese Bluetooth controller for my gc only to realize you can only play single player. Other controllers Bluetooth or wired won’t work if ur using it
Does it work in multiplayer games? I bought a shit Chinese Bluetooth controller for my gc only to realize you can only play single player. Other controllers Bluetooth or wired won’t work if ur using it
Yes it works on native hardware with multiplayer, no issues
R button doesn’t seem to work with Luigi's Mansion for some reason, it works for the other games I've tried though. There's also an issue with making a z button press when you movr the controller around. It's a great mod though
8bitdo is currently aware of the Luigi's mansion issue and are working on a firmware update fix! The Z button press issue was theoretically fixed in the 1.1 (1.01?) firmware update to the adapter - there is also a firmware update for the controller, be sure to update both as most issues (other than Luigi's mansion) have been resolved as of last week
@@tricycloplots21 that's good to hear
@@tricycloplots21 dpad also isn't doing very much at all right now either
@@fireboltthunder2360 for what title, specifically? Let 8-bitdo support know!
@@tricycloplots21 pretty much everything. Where do I let them know?
I need a rumble mod for the wavebird, thats what i need.
If this board fits in a wavebird then maybe you can put something together!
The board needs a recap. This is a temporary fix
good video bro, very well explained
Draw me a giraffe with a guitar.
Can this adapter use the ZL button with modern controllers for Wii games?
Awesome console is the only thing I like. we can switch games without taking the cartridge out of the console like retron 3 does just wish retron 5 do the same like retron 3 does. 🤔 P.S. If you got Super Gameboy, you can play classic Gameboy games with your retron 3 or maybe 4. 😉
Neat!
I think the rumble options in Sunshine is on the main menu when you choosing a file to the far right
I am glad you mentioned needing to update the adapter. I tried using the modded GameCube controller on my Wii to play some GameCube games and the thumb sticks we're acting jittery. I was thinking there was something wrong with my controller. But I'll try this first to see if it fixes it.
My sticks were acting up and I couldn’t get the L or R buttons to hold for more than like 4 seconds, no matter which controller I used. Updating the firmware fixed all of that, so hopefully that fixes your issue too!
@@TheCartCollector I'm having this issue where my NGC retro receiver is stuck in update mode, any ideas of what could be wrong?
Sounds like your pair button might be stuck. It only goes into update mode when it’s powered on with the button pressed. That’s the only thing I can think of that would do that.
@@TheCartCollector I was able to fix it, the support team sent me a program that would essentially force an update, it's back to working properly now
How would you say in compares to the BlueRetro internal bluetooth board?
I have not tried the internal board so I can’t really compare. Though I have heard that that is a viably good option for Bluetooth connectivity as well. I personally like this because it is completely mod free. The less internal work I have to do, the less likely I am to screw something up haha.
Would this work on a Wii? I’m thinking about getting this.
I don’t see why it wouldn’t. So long as your Wii has the GameCube ports, it should work just fine.
@@TheCartCollector It says it’s compatible with Wii, and since mine has GameCube ports, I’ll pick it up and try it out. Hopefully it works, so I won’t have to spend money on a real GameCube controller.
Just make sure to update the firmware on it
I can confirm it works with the Wii, but there are a few minor issues. 1) You’ll need to update the receiver’s firmware for it to work properly. 2) The buttons are swapped, which isn’t a big deal in my opinion. 3) You’ll need a Wiimote to access the home menu. Besides that tho it’s definitely a good purchase.
I'm curious how well it fits into the gamecube ports on the wii
I would assume well, given that it fits the GC so well. I’ll try it out when I get home.
hey wanted to say thanks im getting ready to repair my gameboy advance sp and i have to replace the rb and lb and decided to just fix and replace everything except the motherboard.
