Always use protection on your Deck. I left mine exposed one night and my cat barfed on it. It stopped working after that. The Deck, I mean. My cat was already unemployed.
The craziest shit is…….in new to handheld devices last ones I had was gba but anyway first time I got my steam deck and i heard the fans going off the first thing I did was smell it and now it’s a habit lmao I’m glad I’m not the only one
r1+select is alt-tab in desktop mode. Whenever a game/program inevitably goes full screen and you get stuck, now you won't have to power your deck off to get out of there. Holding down the start button will toggle you between KB/M mode and a controller mode so make sure that you are in KB/M mode before trying that combo.
Thanks, this one I gotta try to remember. Has happened once to me and I was wondering why there isn't simple shortcut for that. Apparently there is one indeed.
Two tips here. 1) Setup KDE connect for transferring smaller files between the Deck and other devices and sharing you clipboard from other devices when following guides. 2) For things like tools, mod loaders and the nested desktop that are setup as non-steam games set them as hidden so that they don't show up in you gamelist/on the homescreen. You can still get to them by searching for them and launch them like normal.
I haven't sat down at my laptop for an entire hour yet since getting my Deck in December. It's my primary gaming device, and my primary PC. Linux is really fun to use
I just ordered my wife her own deck to play with. She's been eyeing up my deck a lot lately. And even though it's got quite the endurance, it doesn't last forever. And also, after nine months, I had no idea you could use the right hand dots button for the quick actions. Here I am giving myself crabs... I mean crab hands trying to change the brightness.
I didn't know any of these tips!! I'm still learning how to get the optimum playing experience out of my Steam Deck! I watch videos literally everyday. Thanks for the video. I'm definitely going to watch it a few more times to learn them all.
You can go into desktop mode to download a game and there it will turn the screen off after however time you configure the screen to turn off on the desktop mode settings. No need for any dongles ;-)
Passed this onto a friend that's just joined the deck scene. I will one day. But there's other stuff that needs to come first, so I'll stick with my rg35xx for now and using my gaming laptop for high end stuff.
Great idea assigning the back button as mouse click instead of tapping on the trackpad. I was frustrated by the same problem so ended up using the mouse instead. Thanks for all of the tips! I have recently purchased an inexpensive used PSVR headset and am wondering if it's worth trying to get PSVR headset to work with the Steam Deck using the iVRy driver? Would be a great topic to cover in your next video!
If you install a game using Heroic Games Launcher and it doesn't work since it defaults to installing the Linux version then switch to the WINDOWS version of the installation. The Deck ironically works much better with the Windows version as this triggers Heroic to download the correct files to get things to work. I had to use this method to get many of my GOG games to work including Castles 2 Siege and Conquest, X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Heroes of Might and Magic 1 and 2.
So, alot of people do not realize that all you have to do to leave desktop mode and go back to gaming mode is to "log out" of desktop mode. To further this, I hate icons on my desktop, so no gaming mode icon, right? Well, I set up my "select" button's command "2" to perform "ctrl + alt + del" on long press which takes me to the log out screen... but even more if you add "enter" as a command "3" with a slightly longer press, you get a 1 button logout that takes your from desktop to gaming mode in 0.75 seconds of a press! (if you are wondering select command "1" is "Tab" and is unaffected by my customization")
You can download games with the screen off without hdmi dongle, by switching to the desktop mode: steam > Power > Switch to desktop System settings > Power Management Energy Saving : Screen Energy Saving: switch off after 1 min (or more)
Leave my Deck alone, it belongs to me and no one can handle my Deck unless I allow it. I only have it for 2 weeks now (my first Deck) and I remember when I customized my PSP and now this feels like those good old days and it is the best. The controller layout change per game is so amazing, especially with the trackpads for games like Warframe or Just Cause 3 and now I have PSP games on it, Remote Play for PS5 and Stream Quake Champions from my gaming laptop.
If you get a non steam game online then find it is only for windows then add it to steam then change the proton version to the one that works best and then when you run it it will run like it's a windows application
I have my deck setup as secondary pc / console whenever power goes out, have internet issues or whenever I leave my mancave. Your tip about hotspot with tethered connection is a livesaver as im really stingy with my mobile data usage and so i never used it for the cursed denuvo games. Thankfully only a few of my installed games have denuvo so it rarely was an issue but annoying when drm stopped me from playing offline.
Im still staring at the parcel tracker app, waiting for my deck... It has not updated for 24 hours... So im playing stardew valley on my phone and binging techdweeb videos on my nentendo swetch.
Love my deck! I need tips to make deck experince better, so thank you for tips on the deck. Just got my Oled 1tb super recently. 💣💥 Please do more videos on the big deck!
The steam deck is probably my favorite tech purchase I have made in my life I have a PC and ps5 and Xbox and switch but I'm using the steam deck more then any of them lol it's just so convenient I can't thank steam enough 🍻 bud.
My question is can you pick what games are shown in the home game menu? Right now it shows my games and downloaded games. I only want my downloaded games to show.
save files through heroic sux after couple of games I decided to play only on my steam library bc the folder after uninstall it disappeared and Ive lost a lots of days of gameplay (wwz, outerworlds etc.) just sayin ✌
MicroSDs make for good hotswappable steam cartridges, and you can keep track of them using collections. Also, there are generic usbc microsd readers that could be used to load multiple SDs (as you can also load regular disks formatted in the Deck under storage option) at similar speeds as the Deck reader. You can use these to move games between microSDs and keep big collections organized and readily accessible. That would be my 2 cents. Great video as always, Dweeb!
Gotta love playing with our Decks... Nothing like a group of dudes wiping out their own Decks (don't touch mine, I won't touch yours as you pointed out) and having multiplayer sessions! And then, when riding back home from a long and hard day, one can look back on all the Deck that was had. Yup, good times! Edit: Couldn't miss the opportunity to say that my Deck is big, black and beautiful... Ok I stop now! 😂
Always use protection on your Deck. I left mine exposed one night and my cat barfed on it. It stopped working after that. The Deck, I mean. My cat was already unemployed.

You can't stop me from sniffing the exhaust. Its a right of passage for any steam deck owner. They can only stop on their own terms.

The nested desktop trick is so neat! I am using it right now.
That one is a game changer eh?
@@TechDweeb i cant seem to use the taskbar via nested

That is so generous! Thanks buddy! You can play with my deck, but only if I can play with yours

Thanks for saying so!
The hdmi trick is cool. Didnt know the instant desktop too.
Just make sure the decks don’t touch when you play with someone else.
And if they do, never speak of it
What a timing! I just picked up my deck again yesterday after not playing with it for a year.
Dude your channel content has gotten so good. My new favorite creator on this site. Go dweeb 🎉

You know what man you earned a sub. I knew most of these but now I'm more confident fiddling with my steam deck.

For downloading big games with screen off i use the desktop mode, so it will turn off the screen in 5m (and i disable the automatic turn off)
You can download games with the screen off without hdmi dongle, by switching to the desktop mode:
steam > Power > Switch to desktop

the nested desktop is a godsend for me since a good 40% of the time i try to go to desktop mode in the other way it just crashes the steamdeck! :D
If I had a Deck, I'd probably touch it. I think it'd be more fun while plugged in though, and then I wouldn't be touching it.
