Hey y'all - just wanted to flag that some folks in the comments are reporting issues with input reliability and game compatibility (Luigi's mansion mentioned in particular). I have also since noticed some snap-back on the joysticks. Going forward i'm going to test things more thoroughly, but wanted to make sure this was pinned at the top!
also here is a great video from another channel i found demonstrating the retro receiver’s functionality with other controllers! th-cam.com/video/ysuerQMYTNA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4lrxtGTq1oV-JNo8
I definitely suggest learning to solder for this mod. It’s not difficult at all and it would have saved you a lot of trouble with the rumble motor. This is a perfect first project to learn to solder on.
He’ll yea dude, you are like the first one to not only mention the analog triggers but you also tested it on camera, the last reviewer I saw with this mod just passively mentioned it and said it didn’t seem to work.. now I truly know and now I’m subbing and placing my pre order. keep it up man, and remember, no detail is too small in this hobby especially for those who were there in its heyday
Not sure if you subscribe to @BorderlingOCD, but you should as he’s made fantastic videos in the same sort of genre, hoping infact to see him back once he’s ready! I’d also recommend @StezStixFix for his humour and approach to his video editing and framing
The algorithm blesses me today! I must do this mod to my old favorite GC controller. I'm not a Melee player or anything, I just love the way the GC controller feels, and it would be great to put it to use again.
bummer that the receiver is sold separately. also a bummer that the receiver is sold out. awesome video and great quality. really enjoyed it. subbed and excited for future content
Love Bits & Bites good channel name ;) also just installed the mod myself... fiddle AF! I soldered the rumble wires to the connector for a stronger connection rather than twist (as instructed) and then heatshrinked like normal. Charging it now - hope it works! I'm pretty impatient but the first full charge is the most important with Li-Ion batteries!
@@bensbitsbytes It works! But sad to see that rumble doesn't work on Windows (only D Input no X Input). Works on Switch though. Haven't tried blueretro adapter on gamecube or wii yet anyway it'll probably replace my wavebird and be my go to for dolphin
Good video ! I'm curious to see what you'll make next. Subscribed for curiosity's sake ! Also I genuinely did not know this product existed and I'm 100% buying one after seeing how easy it is to install. Thanks for the informative video !
I bought one of these and a for parts silver controller, hoping the mod kit gets here soon. I love that I'll be able to use my favorite controller to play games on my computer and phone. Great video!
OK, so it seems like 8bitdo REALLY REALLY wanted to be able to call this a no solder mod... But that way of connecting the rumble motor is jank as fuck, seriously, just use a dab of solder.
I didn't even realize until i clicked on the channel that this is your first Video, gotta say its pretty great especially since i kinda made me interested to fo something with my gamecube now 👍👍👍
Amazing quality video. I looked at the sub count and I was like? Only 107?? That’s crazy. Loved the editing style. Hope to see many more uploads from you! :)
Awesome. Some comments but to preface them, I’m stunned this is a first video on a channel, fantastic work. - if you could try doing some noise reduction in your editing software, it may allow you to improve the audio a wee bit without upgrading your kit. - some music when your doing any build Timelapse stuff can help to break up the video and keep the pace. - loved the extra text comments on the screen, but the emojis were sometimes confusing, making it seem like you’d done something wrong when actually you were fine. - the connecting of the rumble motor cables wasn’t ideal, but to be fair they didn’t give much in the way of an included kit to achieve a good connection. Maybe consider shrink joints that include low temp melt solder in them, but mention you suggest it as an upgrade that is lacking in the kit. I’m really excited to have gotten in while you only have 220 subscribers, I reckon you will grow really fast if you keep this up -
I know others have mentioned soldering the wires together, but if you're really set on not soldering, a simple twist of the wires and some electrical tape wrap will most likely do the trick.
I would really love to see a similar concep like this, but instead of Bluetooth, it connects wireless via 2.4ghz dongle, that way latency is pretty much negligent
Nice video. I would have recommended updating bothe the receiver and the mod, before installing. I would have liked to see a weight difference before and after with the mod, compared to the wave bird with batteries.
It doesn't support analog triggers on pc. Or at least not properly. Its not Xinput which is super annoying considering 8bitdo has made xinput controllers but they didnt make this one xinput
I might do this mod. But I think I'll desolder the rumble instead of clipping the wires, and solder the wires for it rather than just twisting them. Then it really is fully reversible, and you won't have issues with the motor not getting power.
First I would like to say thank you for the video. I don't know about this. I don't play smash professionally, but I can feel the rage. Destroying a perfectly good controller for this mod is not cool. Obviously using a broken controller is the best idea, but that's not always going to be the case.
great point - fortunately this mod is reversible and i’m saving the original internals. def agree that this is best suited for a broken controller tho 🤙
yo thanks Bryce! i shot it on my iphone 14 pro. i don’t know too much about videography but i just set it to 4k 30fps and tried my best with soft lighting haha
I would love to see a review of how it holds up after at least six months. Also, curious how it works with the Switch (the website advertises it behaving accordingly, but the non-destructive format means it doesn't add buttons like a ZL button, home or screen cap button). Thanks.
@@bensbitsbytes Yes. You can even test for things like snapback, which is a major issue on some of the newer sticks (such as the official smash bros GameCube controller). You just quickly hit the stick to the side, and then you can see if on the return the shape grows at all on the opposite side. But yeah, you can compare the octoganal shape and ranges of the sticks to those of an original wired and/or wavebird.
Could you please let us know if the triggers signal an input with a half press in Switch mode aka without using the adapter? It would be problematic if one had to press the triggers all the way down to shield in Smash Ultimate. Thanks!
Does it work in multiplayer games? I bought a shit Chinese Bluetooth controller for my gc only to realize you can only play single player. Other controllers Bluetooth or wired won’t work if ur using it
question: I wanna use the receiver and modded controller on the Wii, is there any issues with the connection with that setup, given the Wii ports are on the side and not the front of the console like the GC? thanks
You know, I've had a crummy knockoff controller that uses the original mold, I wonder if I could drop this into that instead of one of my OG controllers?
The opening where the controller cord used to be is replaced by a barrel jack connection. The usb c port is used for firmware updates and can only be accessed by opening the controller.

Or, you know, just provide an unpopulated header/housing that you can crimp your motor’s wires into.
It would break off too easily. Though it would be nice if the motor can connect with a plug
@@SweetTodda tiny dab of solder will 100% be more reliable than twisting it every time…
Having it solderless makes it easier to reverse, which is kind of a big point of it
In 8BitDo's video they tell you to splice and solder the wires together.

This almost looks like a perfect product if only there was a way to also use it in cable mode if one wishes to
it is not 8bitdooo, it is 8bitdo - like nintendo
thx for the vid
Looks great, but I think they really should have gone with a USB C port there, even if it required some plastic trimming
My only question is how will Dolphin use it in comparison to Wii U adapter
Analogue triggers and rumble DO NOT work on PC, so if you're thinking of using this for dolphin, find something else.

Your analog stick cap is third party, it was replaced at some point, that's why it feels different.

Yes. It's recognized as a bluetooth controller.
Would this work with wireless 8bitdo usb adapter (the orange or black one)?
Does this work well with the blueretro internal mod?
do you need the receiver for the gamecube controller to work?

very good video my only question is how would you go about charging the battery if it dies?
Would we be able to remap the controls?
I think Nintendo is trying to bring back the GameCube controller for future gaming systems as we speak.
But what about the sensitivity? The GBros adapter had a totally different and wrong sensitivity as the original.
to me it feels pretty close (i’m a casual player) but if you’re going for absolute accuracy definitely stick with an original wired controller
