Also, he sorta acts not only like a service dog but also like one of those people who accompany people with heavy neurodivergency. I think it's been stated that Barnaby taught Wally how to laugh and as seen in the snippet with Wally and Barnaby going to Howdy's, he also taught him possibly a joke or two. Songs as well. In general, Barnaby is sorta half service dog, half social support for Wally, as I see it.
I personally was really disappointed with how the fandom characterized Wally as this like.. Tumblr sexyman flirtatious yandere at first, but luckily after the update I'm seeing some different interpretations, lol :)
Frank just seems like he’s so done with certain antics like when your husband/boyfriend calls you when he’s at work because he’s scared of a beetle that’s just funny when he teases Eddy like “the beetle is talented”

As someone who is autistic, Wally gives off STRONG autistic vibes (but like turned up to a comedic degree). He is very melotone, doesn’t seem to get jokes, and when he is disassociating it's the most relatable thing ever of just like having the world go on around you while you are just not there mentally

Another autistic here, big agree !! Been saying this from the beginning, he’s so autistic to me. He reminds me of when i get extra dissociated during social situations. I might stare off into space, listening passively, only to be called into the conversation and make the strongest eye contact of my life to try and stay tuned in. I’m so glad he exists as a character cause he’s very relatable ( to me ) in that way
I guess the only problem with having that personality is, as a character who also has the most dark secrets (as well as the only one with a sentient house in the middle of the neighborhood), it makes the Fandom see him as weird and start judging him harshly... at 1st. (But I think that's how everyone sees those who have autism. Weird, until you know and understand them.)

The ways that I saw Poppy personified mostly completely ignored her clean-freak nature as described on her character page ( if i remember correctly ), and honed in on her liking to bake things for her friends in the few times people portrayed her in fan creations. I’m glad that this update provided so much elaboration on her personality, she’s so sweet and adorable and I love that she’s afraid of everything potentially scary lol
Wally totally blanking on the romance question reminded me of when Robin Williams and Nathan Lane were doing interviews I think with Oprah for their movie The Birdcage. She ended up asking a question about Nathan possibly being gay ( this wasn't confirmed at the time in the 90s ) and Robin like a total chad diverted attention away from the question so that Nathan didn't have to worry about possibly outing himself when he wasn't ready. So that's the vibe I got for Wally considering the time the show was around.
I am so glad I'm not alone in thinking Barnaby is suspicious. He's either behind something malicious, OR he truly is a concerned best friend and worries over Wally due to Wally being there-not-there, if that makes sense. He's always aware of where Wally could be found
With Clown stating ones of the core themes being ableism, I think that has something to do with the fact Wally is canonically autistic. Besides many people saying that they find his voice strange(I personally find it comforting save for the "let me in. let me in." audio which he sounds malicious), the others seem to treat him differently. With the exception of Barnaby who treats him as everyone else does(which lends itself to your service dog observation), they all seem to treat him differently even if that isnt his intention. While i could list several examples and my personal interpretations, i think when it is most obvious is when frank explains that the crayons have to be "just so". Frank is clearly well meaning, but he seems to find it tedious to explain to Wally. Even Eddie and Poppy(whom i personally believe treat him the most "normal") fall short when compared to Barnaby. Using my ramblings as a preface, i personally think that us(the internet) comunicating with wally in the current day and the happenings of the neighborhood as depicted in video and artwork are two seperate time periods. The first being...now(obviously). They second time being sometime either during or after the show aired. I think that sometime between then, all the neighbors disappeared, thats why Wally seems so depserate to interact with us. He doesnt have his friends to fall back on. Pure theory here, but I think Home is the main antagonist and Wally their victim(even if Wally is unaware of it). Something bad happens to the neighbors leaving only wally and home, and I think Barnaby is the first to go. In what I beleuve was the video recording of Julie gaslighting Frank about his tomatoes, we see a circle of clothes pins circled around a single blue clothes pin buried head first into a mound of dirt(barnaby is blue simple connection. In the audio recording which Julie tells Barnaby her joke, he tells her to "bury him in his favorite sunny spot". I feel the connection there is pretty solid. All the other colored clothes pins(vaguely human shaped) circled around a single buried clothespin. Something I think really hammers it in is in Clown's non-canon art portfolio, there is a picture of a headless Barnaby which i feel could relate to only the head of the clothespin being buried. All of this to say I think Barnabys close relationship to Wally made him able to communicate to Home as they are intrisically related which made him the first to go as I believe that Home wanted Wally in isolation for some reason. Picking the neighbors off one by one being the best way how.
Very interesting! I love your theory! I do agree that wally is probably autistic. As for home, I have seen some theories popping around about home possessing wally to do bad things so that could be how the neighbors go, "missing"
I also thought about this!! I've also been stuck on the fact that I find it very peculiar that we're given two types of interactions; one being the bugs and the other being Wally's doodles (audios). It would make sense that one of them is from wally and the other is whatever entitiy (my guess is home) is affecting the staff of the restoration project, and that the doodles are from Wally and the bugs from the entity respectively. If that's true then that means that the bugs, and thus the videos from "Wally's" POV are probably from the entity. I'm not entirely confident what this means yet but my guess is that because of the symbolism in especially the clothes-pin videos, I believe the entity got rid of the others while possessing Wally, since he blacks out of the entity's POV whenever addressed by name. Why the entity wants us to know this however is beyond me though. I guess another possibility is that the videos are /from/ Wally but they are not /by/ Wally. He somehow got possession of them and is trying to show us that he's being controlled, and the entity/home doesn't know yet. Oh and one of the reasons I believe it is Home possessing Wally and that it's not Wally himself is because we are given hints that Home knows morse code (the last audio is home saying either hello or help in Morse), and in one video where Wally is drinking tea at poppy's place, he taps the teacup which spells "tea" in Morse. Oh and to circle back on the theme of ableism: I think that ableism may be the reason the entity specifically chose Wally. Due to him being canonically autistic he's at greater risk of being manipulated and abused, he may have been tricked into some sort of deal with a demon, or possessed specifically because he's already acting "off script" to his friends, and that way they wouldn't question him if he was already acting strange.
Wally is such a gentle sweetie. A darling, you could say. Such an endearing character. He seems kinda reserved, quiet, polite. I like the service dog idea with Barnaby. And him being able to understand Home makes sensw if thats the case... if Wally is struggling with something or is telling Home something but cant tell anyone else, Home can help bridge that gap in communication by telling Barnaby. Maybe.

I like to think poppy is the tape of person to have a little bowl of candy on her coffee table at all time and is always trying to give you food, she give granny vibes and I love it Also there's a page were there drawing of all the characters with little hearts between them besides Home and Wally, so there differently connected in some way

Honestly with how quiet Wally is during most of those audio tapes I kind of read it as a trauma response. Something happened to him, and now he’s struggling to understand himself.
My working theory is that home is a new “character” within their world. Wally and Barnaby are the first two characters to meet home. So they are trying to “welcome home” as a new character to the rest of the group in the neighborhood. I also think that everyone is working towards a welcoming event with Wally kinda supervising so that everything is perfect for home. Just a thought I could be wrong.
I forgot the word “Thespian” existed for moment, so I spent a good few seconds trying to figure out what Sally being gay had to do with her breaking the 4th wall.

My fave is Frank atm, I liked him originally, but I expected him to be like Squidward, rarely ever happy and unaccepting towards silly goofy type of fun. I appreciate that he's not like that, because it's so easy to lose nuance with "grumpy characters", but Frank makes jokes and enjoys fun, and smiles, and it's not portrayed as something out of the ordinary! His best friend is Julie who is the local fun and games provider, and he loves her and her jokes, and laughs at them, and I am very happy that he's like that. It's very early into the project, but I'd say this is the defenition of a multi-dimensional character. Like you said, he likes his rules and wants things to be in order, but he's not always unhappy with life and doesn't ruin the fun for other characters. It'd be so easy to make him be the one who makes a "serious" remark in the middle of some silly game and everyone rolls their eyes (vibe wise, bc i am sure that is a situation that can happen), but he's more than that. Also he's nonbinary. Now about Wally, I went to school with a few kids who spoke almost exactly like Wally (monotone and all) and were autistic, so the moment I heard Wally's voice I alsmost instantly made up my mind on how I interpret him and his supposedly "unnerving" persona. Everyone's making theories abt how creepy he is because he doesn't get humor and dissociates and speaks in a strange voice, and he's just autistic(or coded) leave him alone lol. Tbh i want to learn more about him bc "autistic" is not a personality and there's gotta be more to him (or he can Actually be kinda empty but still autistic (if that's the direction Clown's even going in, i am just talking abt my own interpretation of him), but we Can be respectful abt it) Anyway my current interpretation is that he's not "evil", just stuck somewhere and doesn't understand what happened, because something clearly happened. I can't remember if it was one of the guestbook drawings or what, but he definitely said "I can't reach them anymore" referring to his friends. I just want to know what happened and where is everyone. The hole under Home has a url "so below" which reminds me of a phrase "as above so below", as in, things are connected and reflect each other on different levels of existence (if i rememebr correctly). So, if that's Below, what happened Above and where IS Above? Our world? The channel where WH was broadcasted? The show production?
There was a part in NightMind’s deep dive into the website update where you could a audio recording of noises inside home. Jostling with a knob? NM said something along the lines- “he’s trying to get out.” Meaning, Wally is trying to get out of home. From what I know so far. Wally & Home are close but I think it’s getting toxic between them. The black goo, the connection between Wally & Home & how they interact with each other. It’s not exactly clear but there is something going on. NM suggested that Home & Wally are one of the same, that they are becoming one, their colour schemes, how their names are written & just how…close they are. And the black goo & the connection to eyes. They both can be tied with that. My theory is that Wally is becoming…sad. Depressed. Disassociating. Because of home and the black goo, it’s effecting him to be aware of the eyes & us. The black goo could be mold. Someone suggested that under NM’s comment section. I think Wally was always quiet as we seen him in the audio logs but not that quiet as we’ve seen in the tapes, the depictions of him are him being chill & quiet but he does have a lively vibe to him at times but but overtime the more he spends time in home the more and more he’s becoming…lost. And how he tries to get out of home…like home is keeping him there…there to see the eyes & the spiral? Eyes, Black Goo…and the Spiral. Those are symbols & things to take note of. It’s honestly fun to piece together what this all means and what this weird but colourful world is. It’s scary but also kinda fun! Clown did such a great job! I’m also curious what happened? After the show just…proofed! What happened to the characters, the neighborhood & Wally? Where are they? What happened to them? Are they gone? Destroyed? Or even…stored away some where to be found? Are they actually puppets, they seem so into their lives that it seems they acknowledge that their felt & in a show yet also don’t acknowledge that what their eating may not actually be food. For example when Sally went to Howdy’s shop, she wanted bread & cereal and Howdy under his breath said a sponge, wood chips & sawdust? Is Howdy & Barnaby aware that their world is truly just a show & their puppets being puppeteer by a puppets master? I definitely am sus at Howdy & Barnaby, Wally may have had revelations but I’m unsure what their about, is he aware that he’s a puppet? He did have a interview done with Mr Interview Guy & Barnaby was there too but…maybe it has something to do with home. The others besides Howdy seem oblivious to this realization.

i ADORE wally and barnaby, i think you're totally right about barnaby being wally's service dog (or fulfilling a similar role in wally's life). i read something on tvtropes about him teaching wally what a laugh is and how to do it? it's very sweet.
Possibilities of who the two last nodes belong to. Home: Home has always been labeled as the ninth neighbor and his color is white. Considering white is one of the missing nodes, he is likely. Barnaby's mother: Clown stated Ms. Beagle moved into the neighborhood late into the show. The Joyful siblings: Not much proof other than being recurring characters. Willow: On Clown's page there is another character. He is a rockstar with blue bangs and fits the theme of the others. If you loom at the file names for each drawing, the name "Willow" is seen. Clown even made a valentine card with him, in the same style as the others. Sunny (just kidding): We all know he was broken into four characters and is never coming back. And the clock keeper: This is a theory that I have little to no evidence to back up. But Clown says there is a clock tower in where home should be. Since the clock is not alive, someone would need to make sure its working.
I got an idea relating the idea of Barnaby being Wally's service dog: what if Barnaby wasn't Wally's OFFFICAL service dog; he just wound up acting like one as time went on out of concern for his best friend
My favorite character at the moment is definitely Poppy! She is relatable on one side, has a wonderful design and character, and my favorite part, her voice! They did a wonderful job casting her, she reminds me of julie andrews in a way. wonderful video and analyses!
This was lovely! As someone who has had Welcome Home as their hyperfixation these last few months, I enjoy hearing others thoughts on what is going on and how they see the characters in it so far. I sure didn't think the Restoration team could have actually been one person, and while it still isn't confirmed it is a very interesting idea for me and how it affects the story with only one person being the main connection with Wally, it really makes everything we learn of them ominous if they're alone doing this. My personal favorite is Frank (he is a darling to me, a lil grumpy but overall just a serious character that I can relate with), and that sure didn't change in this update. I was blown away hearing all the content we got for everyone here, to be honest. I feel like no one was ignored or overshadowed, which is honestly a feat when you remember that Clown/PartyCoffin is juggling 9 characters at once with wildly different personalities. And, I just felt really immersed this update, not to say I wasn't with the last one, but with all the new things including voice acting, I feel like Clown is really solidifying these characters in our hearts in the prologue (I think we're only 7% in now, but that estimate is from me so don't take it as fact) so that when bad stuff happens later down the line we are all suffering and hoping our favorites make it. Gives real stakes to the story, you know? I would definitely say my favorite video/moment was either Frank's lil song (it was very cute and precious to me) or Barnaby dying at Julie's joke, that was golden and hearing other people react to it be one of my favorite things of this update. On theorizing, I don't have much as I still feel we're too early in for anything solid to be made, but like someone else mentioned I feel like purple is a notable color in Welcome Home, kinda a special one compared to the others. I had this feeling even before the update, as I notice that outside of some shading for blue, purple was just an avoided color in the whole site which was a little odd. As an artist who likes to think they know a little on color stuff, you could look at is as simply having the pallet stay in those big primary colors that all of the characters have a bit of to group them together, but when I heard how distorted Frank's voice went on it in the recording, I know something is up. The question, though, is what it could mean. It could just be another connection with Eddie, as Eddie's name and little vinyl record are colored purple and ergo the color is linking with him, or it could instead be having purple be shown as an avoided color for a reason. Like the history of purple and it's negative and darker meaning in video games and character design. Your Barnaby makeup and light cosplay is very precious! It is just a really nice extra detail to me that I like here, and I'm glad there are other people out there who like the other neighbors outside of Wally. I like Wally, but as someone in the fandom, it feels like Wally is the one most people pay attention to in the cast a bit too much, but it makes sense with him as the main character, you know?

I'm under the impression that Home is quite literally an abusive household; that Wally acts the why he does cause Home conditioned him to be like that. Also doesn't help that the little guy reads as neurotypical. I don't know, I got weird vibes from the last video with Wally, Home and Barnaby. It seemed (to me at least) that Wally was dragged away from his painting at the very end. As if Home was trying to get him either away from Barnaby or force him into the conversation.

Loved this video! The wally interview reminds of some of the interviews I've watched of famous 70s and 80s child stars (and even some modern child stars) where the audience seems to really love them but the kid is just completely clueless or out of it cause they're .... well a kid. So I'm wondering if maybe welcome home is kind of a commentary on children in media. In the sense where the puppets and home are all trapped in the neighborhood (maybe like a metaphor for hollywood or something) but desperately want to get out.

Something kind random that stands out to me is that Barnaby mentions his mom scaring easily multiple times Also, and this is probably me projecting myself onto him a bit, but Wally's "they call me Wally Darling because that's my name" read as autistic to me. Last thing that's notable to me that I haven't heard mentioned is Wally's spooky audios specifically being him saying "let me IN"
I am so in love with how each character is written and designed. My top-favorite has gotta be Frank, I have a theory that he knows a lot more than he's letting on (tying in with all the clickable bugs crawling around the site and Frank's love for bugs, and also he and Wally are the only neighbors that don't have established origins. It's been stated for the rest of the neighbors that they all moved to the neighborhood from somewhere, but not Frank and Wally). I also headcanon that Frank and Wally were puppeteered by the same dude. I'm also really happy with the direction Clown went with Frank's personality
I cannot chose a favorite between Barnaby, Eddie, and Julie. Aesthetically Julie is my favorite, personality wise it’s Eddie, but I am a lover of dad jokes so Barnaby hits a soft spot in my heart.

Okay so i struggle heavily from dissociation struggles (esp at places like work) And have experienced getting locked outside of my body during a meltdown So i relate to Wally on such a deep level when it comes to being this very Quiet individual Who isn't there actively most of the time Mostly responding only when called by name or nickname Not understanding how to continue the conversation Wally is the most disconnected character of them all when it comes to Being a character And i heavily relate to that due to neglect and uh abuse but also pigeon holding I didn't get to actually be a person until recently It is so new and so very confusing! I feel small and out of place and even though i know these people are my friends? I still feel disconnected. Im seeing that in Wally Lots of disconnection He makes me feel very seen :)

If I'm gonna be honest, Welcome Home reminds me a lot of Roly Poly No Nanakorobi Yoki by a visual and story standpoint. Both are very colorful and both were meant to educate children but are now lost to time (Ik RPNNKY is found now, but its sequel is still lost media). Though there's a massive difference between the two (that being WH was a show while RPNNKY is a computer edutainment game). Edit: ok erm so the sequel was found and published a while ago I just haven't checked in much on the game in forever 😭

I do have one correction though! in 12:00, you mention thinking Sally' the same size as Poppy, which is very much not true! all the puppets belong to three categories height-wise-Sally, Julie, and Wally are all about 3', Wally being the smallest; Eddie & Frank are both around 4'; and Howdy, Barnaby & Poppy are all between 7' and 8', being more of a costume than an actual puppet. heights don't seem to be all that accurate in drawings, but this is probably because those were the heights of the actual phisical puppets and not the characters. even so, it still gives us something to go off of! if I remember correctly, Sally needed two puppeteers because her head moved-as in, it had both a day version and a night version! or, at least, something like that. which might call your attention, since the show didn't have a night, that we know of at least. this info is taken from both the website and Clown's Tumblr! also! another reason why the fandom thought Barnaby was Sans is because in the document for the castingcall, Clown described his voice as someone's impression of Sans-can't remember who, now, and sadly the document was made private right before the update since the scripts provided there were used for the silly interactions we can hear in the website (Wally, Barnaby, & Howdy; Sally, Poppy, & Eddie; and Julie & Frank's, to be exact!) anyways, that's all! hope you have a nice day! So if you go and read all the canon trivia for Wally (listed on the wiki and right from Clown's Tumblr) if really changes your perspective on him. These and many other facts I didn't list made me compare him to a robot that is being programmed slowly, like not all the code is there Facts *Wally canonically can't feel or process any emotions (he can't feel anger, sadness, fear, etc) *It appears he can't physically frown, he can only smile *Barnaby is the one who tried teaching him what laughter and humor are. He's the one who taught him "ha ha ha" but Wally doesn't understand it fully but still uses it because he was taught it's a normal response to humor *His movements and slow and limited, if he falls face flat he lays there until someone picks him up, sometimes he even just stands there with his mouth open, he doesn't know how to sleep (He just says "sleep") and he blinks to "eat" *He's developed very few traits of personality, such as loving apples, learning art, holding hands, blowing kisses, phone calling his neighbors, and holding hands *Many things he does do, he does by curiously copying his friends or learning VERY slowly
something i thought of when i heard you talk about where eddie and howdy are getting their shipments/supplies is that there are other characters that arent in the welcome home neighborhood such as julies siblings, barnabys mom, howdys family, and this may be a reach but in one of the secret clips where eddie and julie are playing office or something, julie gets a call from someone called mr billy nilly or whatever it was. so.. maybe there are different neighborhoods where those characters all live and they have different jobs like maybe one could be a doctor or something. maybe they get it from other neighborhoods.
23:25 on the "may not be enough about him" there is an answer on the guestbook that was "what's your fav memory with your friends" and the drawing (which was red scratches) said "no memories" or something of the like haven't seen many ppl talk about that
My favorite so far would have to be Eddie! I’m in the same boat as you with feeling SO giddy upon hearing his voice. He’s just so cute and sweet and he puts up with so much lol I just want to pick him up and give him a squeeze I also really liked your takes on Wally! I definitely feel like he isn’t malicious, he’s just trying his best. I feel like the possibility of him being evil is the red herring to end all red herrings. Julie is still easily my favorite, but I really like all of them. They’re all really fun. For some reason I still wonder what it would’ve been like if Sunny was still there, though that’s probably just because I think he’s got a really good design.

As for who my favorite character is, it mainly comes down to their voices : how recognizable they are, how fitting they are, how nice it is on the ears, etc. This is because where we see these characters shine most is, well, when they AREN'T seen and we hear them talking to each other. I actually struggle a good bit with distinguishing people by voice alone unless I know them well or their voice is distinctive. This does make me biased towards Barnaby as he was in most of the conversations and thus he had the most to go off of, making him very memorable. Frank and Poppy do get honorable mentions for distinctive voices. Frank always has a little bit of grumpiness or sass in his voice, giving him a lot of personality. Poppy, sadly, is easy for me to distinguish because she is often too quiet for me to understand her, so if I can tell a female is talking but their voice is too quiet, I know it's her. This does make her less interesting to me, though, because I can't fully understand what she says or her personality by extension. Is her voice fitting? Yeah. Do I like it that much though? Not really.

This is so good!!! This has given me inspiration for my welcome home story, If you don’t mind that is. I have this theory that there are actors trapped in the world trapped in the human/puppet like forms the story follows that. And my favorite character is Eddie because I just relate to him so much
I personally think that no one knowing how to answer the phone ties into the themes of ableism because often as someone who is neurodiverse I often feeling like people want to help and I'm asking for help but no one knows how to help. The phone is ringing and I need you to pick up but no one knows how to pick up the phone.
Barnaby being a service dog is certainly an interesting take that has some merit to it. Barnany being Wally's best friend, almost always accompanying him (minus the clips featuring Poppy, Sally + Howdy, and Eddie + Frank) cracking jokes at any opportunity (potentially relieving potential tension) and being the only neighbor to notice something's up with Wally and show concern when he was talking to Home. Speaking of which, I noticed how he cracked himself up with the joke of his mom being a chicken. Could this be in reference to Poppy since she is a bird and scared of almost everything? She is known as motherly, but I can't help but wonder if maybe she took in Barnaby and Wally, hence their close bond. Granted, I feel like im grabbing at loose threads here. Your comment on themes of ableism and questioning Wally's self advocacy also caught my attention. To me, Wally reminds me of a child with autism still figuring out how to live in an allistic world. Being confused about certain topics yet still wanting to understand (Just So demo) being taught how to tell jokes and laugh (Clown's Tumblr I think) speaking in a monotone voice, and just general mannerisms that seem "out of place" like greeting everyone individually, making blatant observations, and being blunt in conversation ("oh, im up here now" in Eddie's Big Lift and straight up saying "no" without follow up to Frank's question in the Just So demo.) Growing up, I had a hard time advocating for myself and saying what I actually wanted to say, so I could definitely see that being a theme in Wally's character arc. As a transgender individual, Poppy is my favorite neighbor other than Wally. I always thought of her as a mother bird type of person. It’s also really cool that I can easily do a voice impression of her since I haven’t started HRT yet. Poppy is by far my favorite trans character in media.
I think at the very least Wally (duh) and barnaby know about the human world because they had that interview. Whether they are gating that knowledge from the others or the others know though we can’t tell 🤷♀️ but if it’s the former then I think barnaby might play a bigger role in the depths of this than we thought. I always perceived the Welcome Home world as being adjacent to the Muppets in a sense. The Muppets know there are viewers. The Muppets live in the same world as humans but spend most of their time amongst other Muppets. The exceptions to that are the star guests and some human co-workers that work behind the scenes. Idk that is just how I perceived things.

In general, Barnaby is sorta half service dog, half social support for Wally, as I see it.

As someone who is autistic, Wally gives off STRONG autistic vibes (but like turned up to a comedic degree). Another autistic here, big agree !! Been saying this from the beginning, he’s so autistic to me. He reminds me of when i get extra dissociated during social situations. I might stare off into space, listening passively, only to be called into the conversation and make the strongest eye contact of my life to try and stay tuned in. I’m so glad he exists as a character cause he’s very relatable ( to me ) in that way
I guess the only problem with having that personality is, as a character who also has the most dark secrets (as well as the only one with a sentient house in the middle of the neighborhood), it makes the Fandom see him as weird and start judging him harshly... at 1st.

The ways that I saw Poppy personified mostly completely ignored her clean-freak nature as described on her character page ( if i remember correctly ), and honed in on her liking to bake things for her friends in the few times people portrayed her in fan creations. I’m glad that this update provided so much elaboration on her personality, she’s so sweet and adorable and I love that she’s afraid of everything potentially scary lol

Wally totally blanking on the romance question reminded me of when Robin Williams and Nathan Lane were doing interviews I think with Oprah for their movie The Birdcage. She ended up asking a question about Nathan possibly being gay ( this wasn't confirmed at the time in the 90s ) and Robin like a total chad diverted attention away from the question so that Nathan didn't have to worry about possibly outing himself when he wasn't ready. So that's the vibe I got for Wally considering the time the show was around.

With Clown stating ones of the core themes being ableism, I think that has something to do with the fact Wally is canonically autistic. Besides many people saying that they find his voice strange(I personally find it comforting save for the "let me in. let me in." audio which he sounds malicious), the others seem to treat him differently. With the exception of Barnaby who treats him as everyone else does(which lends itself to your service dog observation), they all seem to treat him differently even if that isnt his intention. While i could list several examples and my personal interpretations, i think when it is most obvious is when frank explains that the crayons have to be "just so". Frank is clearly well meaning, but he seems to find it tedious to explain to Wally. Even Eddie and Poppy(whom i personally believe treat him the most "normal") fall short when compared to Barnaby.
Using my ramblings as a preface, i personally think that us(the internet) comunicating with wally in the current day and the happenings of the neighborhood as depicted in video and artwork are two seperate time periods. The first being...now(obviously). They second time being sometime either during or after the show aired. I think that sometime between then, all the neighbors disappeared, thats why Wally seems so depserate to interact with us. He doesnt have his friends to fall back on.
Pure theory here, but I think Home is the main antagonist and Wally their victim(even if Wally is unaware of it). Something bad happens to the neighbors leaving only wally and home, and I think Barnaby is the first to go. In what I beleuve was the video recording of Julie gaslighting Frank about his tomatoes, we see a circle of clothes pins circled around a single blue clothes pin buried head first into a mound of dirt(barnaby is blue simple connection. In the audio recording which Julie tells Barnaby her joke, he tells her to "bury him in his favorite sunny spot". I feel the connection there is pretty solid. All the other colored clothes pins(vaguely human shaped) circled around a single buried clothespin. Something I think really hammers it in is in Clown's non-canon art portfolio, there is a picture of a headless Barnaby which i feel could relate to only the head of the clothespin being buried.
All of this to say I think Barnabys close relationship to Wally made him able to communicate to Home as they are intrisically related which made him the first to go as I believe that Home wanted Wally in isolation for some reason. Picking the neighbors off one by one being the best way how.

I also thought about this!! I've also been stuck on the fact that I find it very peculiar that we're given two types of interactions; one being the bugs and the other being Wally's doodles (audios). It would make sense that one of them is from wally and the other is whatever entitiy (my guess is home) is affecting the staff of the restoration project, and that the doodles are from Wally and the bugs from the entity respectively. If that's true then that means that the bugs, and thus the videos from "Wally's" POV are probably from the entity. I'm not entirely confident what this means yet but my guess is that because of the symbolism in especially the clothes-pin videos, I believe the entity got rid of the others while possessing Wally, since he blacks out of the entity's POV whenever addressed by name. Why the entity wants us to know this however is beyond me though. I guess another possibility is that the videos are /from/ Wally but they are not /by/ Wally. He somehow got possession of them and is trying to show us that he's being controlled, and the entity/home doesn't know yet.
Oh and one of the reasons I believe it is Home possessing Wally and that it's not Wally himself is because we are given hints that Home knows morse code (the last audio is home saying either hello or help in Morse), and in one video where Wally is drinking tea at poppy's place, he taps the teacup which spells "tea" in Morse.
Oh and to circle back on the theme of ableism: I think that ableism may be the reason the entity specifically chose Wally. Due to him being canonically autistic he's at greater risk of being manipulated and abused, he may have been tricked into some sort of deal with a demon, or possessed specifically because he's already acting "off script" to his friends, and that way they wouldn't question him if he was already acting strange.
Wally is such a gentle sweetie. A darling, you could say. Such an endearing character. He seems kinda reserved, quiet, polite. I like the service dog idea with Barnaby. And him being able to understand Home makes sensw if thats the case... if Wally is struggling with something or is telling Home something but cant tell anyone else, Home can help bridge that gap in communication by telling Barnaby. Maybe.

My working theory is that home is a new “character” within their world. Wally and Barnaby are the first two characters to meet home. So they are trying to “welcome home” as a new character to the rest of the group in the neighborhood. I also think that everyone is working towards a welcoming event with Wally kinda supervising so that everything is perfect for home. Just a thought I could be wrong.

My fave is Frank atm, I liked him originally, but I expected him to be like Squidward, rarely ever happy and unaccepting towards silly goofy type of fun. I appreciate that he's not like that, because it's so easy to lose nuance with "grumpy characters", but Frank makes jokes and enjoys fun, and smiles, and it's not portrayed as something out of the ordinary! His best friend is Julie who is the local fun and games provider, and he loves her and her jokes, and laughs at them, and I am very happy that he's like that. It's very early into the project, but I'd say this is the defenition of a multi-dimensional character. Like you said, he likes his rules and wants things to be in order, but he's not always unhappy with life and doesn't ruin the fun for other characters. It'd be so easy to make him be the one who makes a "serious" remark in the middle of some silly game and everyone rolls their eyes (vibe wise, bc i am sure that is a situation that can happen), but he's more than that. Also he's nonbinary. Now about Wally, I went to school with a few kids who spoke almost exactly like Wally (monotone and all) and were autistic, so the moment I heard Wally's voice I alsmost instantly made up my mind on how I interpret him and his supposedly "unnerving" persona. Everyone's making theories abt how creepy he is because he doesn't get humor and dissociates and speaks in a strange voice, and he's just autistic(or coded) leave him alone lol. Tbh i want to learn more about him bc "autistic" is not a personality and there's gotta be more to him (or he can Actually be kinda empty but still autistic (if that's the direction Clown's even going in, i am just talking abt my own interpretation of him), but we Can be respectful abt it) Anyway my current interpretation is that he's not "evil", just stuck somewhere and doesn't understand what happened, because something clearly happened. There was a part in NightMind’s deep dive into the website update where you could a audio recording of noises inside home. Jostling with a knob?
NM said something along the lines- “he’s trying to get out.” Meaning, Wally is trying to get out of home.
From what I know so far. Wally & Home are close but I think it’s getting toxic between them. The black goo, the connection between Wally & Home & how they interact with each other.
It’s not exactly clear but there is something going on.
NM suggested that Home & Wally are one of the same, that they are becoming one, their colour schemes, how their names are written & just how…close they are.
And the black goo & the connection to eyes. They both can be tied with that.
My theory is that Wally is becoming…sad. Depressed. Disassociating. Because of home and the black goo, it’s effecting him to be aware of the eyes & us.

I think Wally was always quiet as we seen him in the audio logs but not that quiet as we’ve seen in the tapes, the depictions of him are him being chill & quiet but he does have a lively vibe to him at times but but overtime the more he spends time in home the more and more he’s becoming…lost.

Home: Home has always been labeled as the ninth neighbor and his color is white. Considering white is one of the missing nodes, he is likely.
Barnaby's mother: Clown stated Ms. Beagle moved into the neighborhood late into the show.
The Joyful siblings: Not much proof other than being recurring characters.
Willow: On Clown's page there is another character. He is a rockstar with blue bangs and fits the theme of the others. If you loom at the file names for each drawing, the name "Willow" is seen. Clown even made a valentine card with him, in the same style as the others.
Sunny (just kidding): We all know he was broken into four characters and is never coming back.
And the clock keeper: This is a theory that I have little to no evidence to back up. But Clown says there is a clock tower in where home should be. Since the clock is not alive, someone would need to make sure its working.

My favorite character at the moment is definitely Poppy! She is relatable on one side, has a wonderful design and character, and my favorite part, her voice! They did a wonderful job casting her, she reminds me of julie andrews in a way. wonderful video and analyses!

This was lovely! As someone who has had Welcome Home as their hyperfixation these last few months, I enjoy hearing others thoughts on what is going on and how they see the characters in it so far. I sure didn't think the Restoration team could have actually been one person, and while it still isn't confirmed it is a very interesting idea for me and how it affects the story with only one person being the main connection with Wally, it really makes everything we learn of them ominous if they're alone doing this.
My personal favorite is Frank (he is a darling to me, a lil grumpy but overall just a serious character that I can relate with), and that sure didn't change in this update. I was blown away hearing all the content we got for everyone here, to be honest. I feel like no one was ignored or overshadowed, which is honestly a feat when you remember that Clown/PartyCoffin is juggling 9 characters at once with wildly different personalities. And, I just felt really immersed this update, not to say I wasn't with the last one, but with all the new things including voice acting, I feel like Clown is really solidifying these characters in our hearts in the prologue (I think we're only 7% in now, but that estimate is from me so don't take it as fact) so that when bad stuff happens later down the line we are all suffering and hoping our favorites make it. Gives real stakes to the story, you know?
I would definitely say my favorite video/moment was either Frank's lil song (it was very cute and precious to me) or Barnaby dying at Julie's joke, that was golden and hearing other people react to it be one of my favorite things of this update.
On theorizing, I don't have much as I still feel we're too early in for anything solid to be made, but like someone else mentioned I feel like purple is a notable color in Welcome Home, kinda a special one compared to the others. I had this feeling even before the update, as I notice that outside of some shading for blue, purple was just an avoided color in the whole site which was a little odd. As an artist who likes to think they know a little on color stuff, you could look at is as simply having the pallet stay in those big primary colors that all of the characters have a bit of to group them together, but when I heard how distorted Frank's voice went on it in the recording, I know something is up. The question, though, is what it could mean. It could just be another connection with Eddie, as Eddie's name and little vinyl record are colored purple and ergo the color is linking with him, or it could instead be having purple be shown as an avoided color for a reason. Like the history of purple and it's negative and darker meaning in video games and character design.
Your Barnaby makeup and light cosplay is very precious! It is just a really nice extra detail to me that I like here, and I'm glad there are other people out there who like the other neighbors outside of Wally. I like Wally, but as someone in the fandom, it feels like Wally is the one most people pay attention to in the cast a bit too much, but it makes sense with him as the main character, you know?

I'm under the impression that Home is quite literally an abusive household; that Wally acts the why he does cause Home conditioned him to be like that. Also doesn't help that the little guy reads as neurotypical. I don't know, I got weird vibes from the last video with Wally, Home and Barnaby. It seemed (to me at least) that Wally was dragged away from his painting at the very end. As if Home was trying to get him either away from Barnaby or force him into the conversation.

Loved this video! The wally interview reminds of some of the interviews I've watched of famous 70s and 80s child stars (and even some modern child stars) where the audience seems to really love them but the kid is just completely clueless or out of it cause they're .... well a kid.
So I'm wondering if maybe welcome home is kind of a commentary on children in media. In the sense where the puppets and home are all trapped in the neighborhood (maybe like a metaphor for hollywood or something) but desperately want to get out.

I am so in love with how each character is written and designed. My top-favorite has gotta be Frank, I have a theory that he knows a lot more than he's letting on (tying in with all the clickable bugs crawling around the site and Frank's love for bugs, and also he and Wally are the only neighbors that don't have established origins. It's been stated for the rest of the neighbors that they all moved to the neighborhood from somewhere, but not Frank and Wally). I also headcanon that Frank and Wally were puppeteered by the same dude.

If I'm gonna be honest, Welcome Home reminds me a lot of Roly Poly No Nanakorobi Yoki by a visual and story standpoint. Both are very colorful and both were meant to educate children but are now lost to time (Ik RPNNKY is found now, but its sequel is still lost media). Though there's a massive difference between the two (that being WH was a show while RPNNKY is a computer edutainment game).

hi hello! this is the first WH analysis video I've seen since MatPat's videos,, I've been evading them like the Plague ever since lmao, but I thought it was about time I get over my fear and give at least one a chance, thus why I'm here. :)
the video so far is very enjoyable! you talk very clearly and have a really nice voice. I do have one correction though! in 12:00, you mention thinking Sally' the same size as Poppy, which is very much not true! all the puppets belong to three categories height-wise-Sally, Julie, and Wally are all about 3', Wally being the smallest; Eddie & Frank are both around 4'; and Howdy, Barnaby & Poppy are all between 7' and 8', being more of a costume than an actual puppet. heights don't seem to be all that accurate in drawings, but this is probably because those were the heights of the actual phisical puppets and not the characters. even so, it still gives us something to go off of!
if I remember correctly, Sally needed two puppeteers because her head moved-as in, it had both a day version and a night version! or, at least, something like that. which might call your attention, since the show didn't have a night, that we know of at least. this info is taken from both the website and Clown's Tumblr!
also! another reason why the fandom thought Barnaby was Sans is because in the document for the castingcall, Clown described his voice as someone's impression of Sans-can't remember who, now, and sadly the document was made private right before the update since the scripts provided there were used for the silly interactions we can hear in the website (Wally, Barnaby, & Howdy; Sally, Poppy, & Eddie; and Julie & Frank's, to be exact!)

*His movements and slow and limited, if he falls face flat he lays there until someone picks him up, sometimes he even just stands there with his mouth open, he doesn't know how to sleep (He just says "sleep") and he blinks to "eat"
*He's developed very few traits of personality, such as loving apples, learning art, holding hands, blowing kisses, phone calling his neighbors, and holding hands
*Many things he does do, he does by curiously copying his friends or learning VERY slowly

something i thought of when i heard you talk about where eddie and howdy are getting their shipments/supplies is that there are other characters that arent in the welcome home neighborhood such as julies siblings, barnabys mom, howdys family, and this may be a reach but in one of the secret clips where eddie and julie are playing office or something, julie gets a call from someone called mr billy nilly or whatever it was. so.. maybe there are different neighborhoods where those characters all live and they have different jobs like maybe one could be a doctor or something. maybe they get it from other neighborhoods.
That would be very interesting! I would love to see an extended universe

An there’s one more vid where Barnaby’s not present, that’s the play rehearsal with Sally and Julie. But in my opinion, Poppy gives off the ‘fretful’ mother figure or even (pun intended) mother hen mentality. Where she wants to protect and take care of everyone
As for who my favorite character is, it mainly comes down to their voices : how recognizable they are, how fitting they are, how nice it is on the ears, etc. This is because where we see these characters shine most is, well, when they AREN'T seen and we hear them talking to each other. I actually struggle a good bit with distinguishing people by voice alone unless I know them well or their voice is distinctive. This does make me biased towards Barnaby as he was in most of the conversations and thus he had the most to go off of, making him very memorable. Frank and Poppy do get honorable mentions for distinctive voices. Frank always has a little bit of grumpiness or sass in his voice, giving him a lot of personality. Poppy, sadly, is easy for me to distinguish because she is often too quiet for me to understand her, so if I can tell a female is talking but their voice is too quiet, I know it's her. This does make her less interesting to me, though, because I can't fully understand what she says or her personality by extension. Is her voice fitting? Yeah. Do I like it that much though? Not really.

Barnaby being a service dog is certainly an interesting take that has some merit to it. Barnany being Wally's best friend, almost always accompanying him (minus the clips featuring Poppy, Sally + Howdy, and Eddie + Frank) cracking jokes at any opportunity (potentially relieving potential tension) and being the only neighbor to notice something's up with Wally and show concern when he was talking to Home. Speaking of which, I noticed how he cracked himself up with the joke of his mom being a chicken. Could this be in reference to Poppy since she is a bird and scared of almost everything? She is known as motherly, but I can't help but wonder if maybe she took in Barnaby and Wally, hence their close bond. Granted, I feel like im grabbing at loose threads here. Your comment on themes of ableism and questioning Wally's self advocacy also caught my attention. To me, Wally reminds me of a child with autism still figuring out how to live in an allistic world. Being confused about certain topics yet still wanting to understand (Just So demo) being taught how to tell jokes and laugh (Clown's Tumblr I think) speaking in a monotone voice, and just general mannerisms that seem "out of place" like greeting everyone individually, making blatant observations, and being blunt in conversation ("oh, im up here now" in Eddie's Big Lift and straight up saying "no" without follow up to Frank's question in the Just So demo.) Growing up, I had a hard time advocating for myself and saying what I actually wanted to say, so I could definitely see that being a theme in Wally's character arc. As a transgender individual, Poppy is my favorite neighbor other than Wally. I always thought of her as a mother bird type of person. It’s also really cool that I can easily do a voice impression of her since I haven’t started HRT yet. Poppy is by far my favorite trans character in media.

I think at the very least Wally (duh) and barnaby know about the human world because they had that interview. Whether they are gating that knowledge from the others or the others know though we can’t tell 🤷♀️ but if it’s the former then I think barnaby might play a bigger role in the depths of this than we thought. He could be a guard or keeper for the vessel that Wally seems to be

I always perceived the Welcome Home world as being adjacent to the Muppets in a sense. The Muppets know there are viewers. The Muppets live in the same world as humans but spend most of their time amongst other Muppets. The exceptions to that are the star guests and some human co-workers that work behind the scenes. Idk that is just how I perceived things.

like i relate to how wally is just quiet and there, his charatcer makes it feel more comfortable for mw to not have to force a lot of emotion around people i dont know well! and i also will just talk and people laugh like i made a joke and i sit there confused. i dissociate so much too TvT
