I think Guillermo Del Toro should do a third Hellboy anyway. The fans nowadays are smart enough to know that the movies aren't connected.

The very first thing I said when I saw the trailer was, "Why? Who asked for this? We already have a Hellboy 1 and 2, where the hell is the 3rd? Who thought this was needed?"
I had the same thoughts with the new men in black trailers, please god someone stop these people from ruining good movies.

Del Toro wanted enough money to do the property properly and full creative control and final say in the finished edit... Lionsgate refused and decided to do Suicide Squad mixed with all the wrong lessons from Deadpool and we wound up with this shit-fest.
They gave the movie $50 mil that's way too little to make much, let alone retakes and proper editing.

Since they knew people loved hellboy, they wanted to take advantage of us, nope, karma lmao. Glad this pile of crap bombed.

Not if they want real special effects and CGI that takes $80-$120 mil at least based upon the region it is developed.

If you really want to see how the Hellboy comics should look on film, check out the animated movie: Blood and Iron. That's how Hellboy should be, not this... thing.
comicbookartist1 yeah I was going to see. Del Toro, Pearlman, Blair and all of the other original movie cast made two Animated movies (I think, I only saw two on Vudu) which were pretty good. I guess you could head cannon those in as III and IV and pretend this one was never made.
The animated movies were pretty cool. Not enough to make me want to buy a comic, but enough to make me want more animated films or a series.
@@toddknaperek8225 Unfortunately they only made two. As much as I like the live action movies Del Toro made, I like the cartoons more. While good, movie Hellboy was not quite like the comics. He was a bit more immature and more temperamental in the movies. The Cartoons did a good job of capturing his "roll with the punches" from the comics. It also got rid of the wierd relationship he had with Liz in the movies, and made her and Abe interested in each other like the comics. In the comics Hellboy didn't really have a love interest until he met Alice, near the end. In the comics, Alice was a redhead from Ireland.
If you liked the animated films, love the comics. The Animated films did a great job of capturing the feel of the books, even down to the way the comics used color for storytelling. And I totally agree that their should have been more of them.

No. In the comic, Hellboy would say "quit while you're ahead", chuckle to himself, and then literally everyone else would groan and tell him that was the worst joke they'd ever heard.

@@nicknevco215 Exactly! The joke in the comics is that he has a horrible sense of humor. This movie wants you to take his jokes at face value and it just DOESN'T work.
I wrote this made up Swat Scene for Hellboy when I first saw the Trailer with the awful Billy Idol music, posted it on the Hellboy Reddit and the people there just weren't having it... I really enjoyed this made up scene tho... I might still watch the movie on Saturday or Sunday.
There can be "comedy" in a Hellboy movie, just not done in a way that looks separate from the Comic Source and even something that looks abandoned from the DelToro Films.
They just needed to be more subtle, dramatic and create a narrative where its a graphic novel and not a ripoff series.
This is an R rated movie for adults right? It was supposed to be a Hellboy movie like the Mike Mignola comics and somewhat like the DelToros Hellboy movies right?
Instead what was seen on the Hellboy trailer, we are presented with a film that looks close to Hellboy the comic books but has lost most of its emotional impact on an older audience and an audience that would have praised the film in a broader spectrum.
As for the specific "Swat Scene" I have changed the way the scene is executed, but still have the "humor" of what's presented in the trailer for Hellboy "reboot" 2019.
We have a shot of the Swat Team preparing their positions...The officers are tense, they dont know what to expect, they can't protect everyone, not even themselves. They are all visibly shaken...
We have a shot of a close up to Hellboys left hand as he smokes a cigarette...
As the truck makes its stop in front of the Swat Team.
The Officers open fire at the truck...not once though...that ain't funny...The officers are too tense, they shoot first and ask questions later...
The scene pans from the left of the truck and then the BPRD logo is shown from the left side of the truck (the side of the truck seen in the trailer has no BPRD Logo on the Right Side!) and then the camera pans to reveal Hellboy getting out of the truck.
With his lit cigerette he takes a breather from it, exhales, and then says... "Buncha amateurs."....
BOOM! Cut to the Hellboy title...play Mony Mony... 5-10 second trailer AD! ... This is starting to become... Hellboy the Fan Theory...
Scene Continues
He then turns to the Swat officers, flashes his credentials and shouts "BPRD! I'm taking over now! Go home, ya gonna get yourselves killed!"...
Hellboy says to himself...
"Damn Fortnite Kids, with their shitty aim..." Hellboy smokes again, exhales...
With a smug face Hellboy shakes his head takes another good breather from his cigarette, exhales out, then puts out his Cig onto his Stone Arm.
THEN... Cut to the Officers exclaiming their apologies, with Hellboy looking smug and shakes his head, waving back at them...
Hellboy Lights another cig, and then breathes deep...exhales...
(In that moment, a flying man bat thing grabs one of those Swat Officers and takes him flying off. Hellboys repsonse... "Ah...Crap"
(Either stop there, or start having Hellboy shooting at the Man Bat thing, whatever is attacking the building, (his cigarette has fallen outta his lips during the action) barely saving the Officer as others come to his aide)
Then he looks around and then up and sees the mess these flying overgrown bats have caused.
He then tries to console everyone (poorly at that, everyones dead...and the Swat Officers are made to look like rookies compared to our main man of the midnight hour) he waves and tells them "Hey, no worries, its my job!"
Hellboy takes another cig, lights it then smokes again... Hellboy says "Ah, shit, it ain't looking too good." and breathes that cigarette deep, exhales... (Flicks cig before entering the buidling)
And then he starts walking into the entrance... As another officer is taken out by another man bat...more gunfire...(whoops Red, shoulda stayed longer)
End Scene.
Thats how its done bois.
I think the worst part of this movie was it's portrayal of Professor Broom. They made him into a total Jackass without any actual sympathy! Why would they do this?!
I think it's really smart that you do a movie review, and then a separate review with spoilers but the spoilers videos are always better imo

The Ogdru Jahad from hellboy one was fantastic even though I don't know the enemy from the comics but it gives off a Lovecraft cosmic horror vibe. A unknowable, unfathomable cosmic horror.
Instead we get this... Facepalm*
Sad thing, the comics are way less grotesque and more melancholic, yes there are wacky moments and action, but the overall tone is mostly a dread, ominous tone and feels like the end of an era....
It's nothing like the comics, but everybody is going to relate this movie to them....

I remember how they initially said this film was going to be closer to that tone then the Del Toro films were. That was the only reason I was even excited for it in the first place. I haven't even seen this movie yet, but from hearing all the bad shit about it, I'm not even caring about spoilers.

I like how they depicted Gruagach in the film as well. As Joe said, a very relatable character, and indeed, he actually was cursed with being unable to die. The reason he was stuck in his current form is a rather complicated thing, but basically Merlin cursed him. The queen of blood did take him away as she did here, and he did regret what he was going to do to the world, which she punished him for, but even hanging him by a noose, he still could not die, even though Hellboy shot him a bunch of times. They were more merciful to the poor Guagach, letting him die here.
I will gladly watch videos of you guys just hanging out after you turn off the camera (well, and turn it on again). Outside of the Joe/Alex audio, that was so much fun.
oh man, in the 'I love you' scene, people LAUGHED at my screening. I kind of feel bad for Harbour. Should not have taken this role.

I laughed too, but that wasn't making fun of Harbour, it was funny because he was drunk fanboying Lobster. I felt so related, because I too got drunk for my grandpa's wake. We drank heavily, and poured some out on his grave, classic Irish tradition. We were being complete idiots, and it was caught on camera too, I could sympathize with Hellboy there.
I knew this movie would suck as soon as they released the poster with the tagline " Legendary af"

tsohgallik haha it was too far in development, I think. They said what we saw was mostly what was gonna be final. Can’t say much beyond that. Believe me, I did leave honest feedback. Basically said it felt like a late 90s first attempt at a bizarre superhero flick and that watching the original again would be time better spent haha

Wrong..... They both only were going to do the movie if the budget was bigger... which is Bullshit...Because this Hellboy movie at 50 million had tons of Action and Horror elements... It makes no sense... my guess is that DelToro wanted more money for his other projects...

Parts of the changeling felt like they were lifted from tales of Arcadia. His dialogue type and connection to the human world as well.

As a "Hellboy Fan", you mean a fan of 2 mediocre movies that were never good, like most of the posers pretending they loved those pitiful movies. Real Hellboy was always the comics, those prior movies which got the adaption all wrong, weren't that good to even warrant staying faithful to, or good at all. This movie may suck but not because its not faithful to the already wrong adaption of those previous lame movies.

Joe don't get the wrong idea we definitely want to hear what you think (all of it) but I feel the same way about other Joe and Alex and he is not great at establishing control of conversation so he often gets cut off then the subject changes so the moment is over.

Hey Joe, I doubt you'll even see this, but I'd like to recommend that you play the Trails of Cold Steel games. The first two are out on steam while the 3rd and 4th installment are releasing in the near future on PS4. I think that Falcom did an absolutely amazing job with the series, but unfortunately, it's just not that well known in the west. I feel like you'd absolutely love it though ... I personally haven't felt this engrossed in a game since Witcher 3 released back in 2015. Either way, I'd love to see your take on it.
If anyone is a fan the Trails series (which I kinda doubt considering how niche it is in the west lol, like this so Joe can see. It's worth a shot.

Vinícius Queiroz I heard there was studio interference with the movie.
They really screwed up the Hellboy story in this. The dads been dead along time, Hellboy acts more grown up in the comics, because they skipped so far ahead, you lose the arcs of many of the side characters, there’s no vomiting ghosts, Merlin’s not a good guy, Excalibur wasn’t important, it ends with Hellboys death and being dragged to hell and the world is being destroyed.
There was a great story written already and all they had to do was follow it
I think directors and writers have a certain arrogance that makes them think they can do better than those that wrote the source material. WHY use it, then?

I liked it. I don't get what they didn't. My wife and I were nervous going in, because I saw Joe's review, but I don't regret seeing it an instant. I don't get why people didn't like it. It was good! Not great, but good, honestly it did better job with the characters than the original. Hell Gruagach, Nimue, Merlin, frigging fairies and changelings, undead, the Arthurian legend. I just don't get why they would prefer the original Hellboy film where the only thing good in it was the acting, but the story was absolutely terrible, even including characters not in the comics. This one had characters straight out of the comics, but done even better. Hell I bet Joe didn't even know who Major Ben Daimio, Alice Monaghan, or the Lobster, is. Oh well, loved it.

I'm pretty sure the guy Baba Yaga talks to in the last post credit scene is a dude from the comic book that is never shown elsewhere. It's like the one major character from the whole comic book series they didn't manage to fit into this film. So, nice job there. What I really want to know though is if Mike Mignola truly prefers this movie to the del Toro ones, or if he's come to develop an appreciation for the craft of movie making by now.

@@alcoholicthot4261Yup, even some of the stuff in the film they 'watched' was inaccurate. I know, I saw it with my wife. I give it a 7/10, perhaps an 8 at moments, but its not a B film, it has budget, and heart. I love it.
It was not Kroenen Baba Yaga was talking to at the end of the film it was Koshchei, a figure from Slavic Folklore.
Just finsihed watching this and im sorry but the scene when allison slows down from running and semi knows/realizes her power when theyre trying to stop the witch it reminded me of the old power ranger fight scenes with the villans. I chuckled a little because thats all i could think of

Not to mention their is a huge emotional death at the start of the movie that seems like its setting up some plotline with Hellboy on this new journey and literally after the first 10 mins we dont mention it or talk about it again LOL

It is weird. In the comics, originally, Hellboy was trained by The Torch, a Captain America-like WW2 costumed hero that was actually created by John Byrne. Since, Mignola couldn't use the Torch, he replaced him with Lobster Johnson (which is kinda slang for genital crabs). In the comics, Hellboy is not an overgrown teenager, and he has no father-son relationship with Broom. All that is from the Del Toro movies. So, really, this new movie is more a bad remake of the original movie - not more faithful to the comics at all.

I doubt you even watched the movie... 20 minutes into the movie Hellboy was in Mexico fighting a best friend who was turned into a vampire that can transform into a giant winged bat.... There is an opening cut scene of the Blood Queen Nimue... Her arms and legs and head are chopped off and locked into boxes....

The best part of this video was when they switched from beer to whiskey... all that was missing was Joe saying, "I love you man.." and other Joe would say, "No, I love YOU man..." Drunk reviews are the best reviews!

If you don't expect anything but a movie with dumb humer and action, you will have a good time.
