Temeura Morrison, who plays Fett, actually said he didn't think the character should be having so many speaking lines, and that he shouldn't constantly be taking his helmet off. So, this is not the actors.
I think he was specifically talking about one of the Robert Rodriguez directed episodes, which he was doing more talking than other episodes.
Yeah there's nothing wrong with him in particular, he was fantastic in mandalorian. Just bad writing

The problem is that the show is literally called "The Book of Boba Fett" and not saying a lot or not having a visible face that can convey emotion to the audience is really hard to pull off for a main character. It worked for Din Djarin, but Boba (before this show) was just generally a way less expressive character when in the suit (if that makes sense).
Which is why I don't think they should have given him his own show. Boba works much better as a secondary character, that's kind of his whole deal.
we have another Mark Hamil vs Ryan Johnson moment and of course the actor will be brushed off because no one cares about great storytelling

The actor playing Boba actually wants him to wear the helmet more and talk less. They are doing this nonsense on purpose.
It's just dumb seeing him walking around with the helmet in his hand. They might as well get rid of it, if they insist on showing the actor's face all the time. (It's not what I want, but they clearly prefer to keep it off mostly)
feels like how in early mass effects they had actual space helmets when the situation needed. but by 3rd everyone had just an eyepiece or visor or a bluetooth earphone and somehow those supposedly protected from space and lack of air. just stupid so they can show us faces.
yet the same studios are advocating using dead digitized actors or de-aged actors that look fake as shit.
Hopefully season 2 they will see how people want him to act more the way he used to even Tem himself, and wear his helmet more

Temuera Morrison definitely isn't to blame. He could easily nail the character with his commanding presence but the creative decisions taken in this show are absolutely baffling. Even the concept art for this episode had Bobba enter cantina fully kitted with helmet, but went other way in show. Would have fitted the atmosphere a lot better
I agree, he gave the vibe of what we thought Boba Fett is during Mando S2. Whoever made this decision to make Boba like this had to have had his balls crushed by Disney cuz u can see they're making him Disneyfied.
And then he turns around and walks out after wookie fight...yeah, not great screen writing or editing. I really enjoyed most of the episode, especailly the first half origin story, but some things were pretty cringy later on, Disngy? ;)

@@Kitbats you'd have to think so. Robert Rodrigues & Jon Favareau nailed his entry in Mandalorian, THAT was their vision. This new tone shift surely came from elsewhere. If can't do the story justice because it doesn't fit your own narrative, don't do the story.
@@Nostromo2144 had some good concepts in there but all executed poorly. The biggest issue I had with the flashback scene was Bobba getting his ship back should have been a major event, like him recovering his right hand. He should have climbed in there & immediately controlled that situation by taking out guards blowing a bloody hole in roof. Sure Fennec could have held them off while he made it to ship, but once he did, that should have been game over. Just like when we saw him recover his armour in Mandalorian
@@andrewpaull7485 I can only assume that they had a limited time to write this story unlike the Mandalorian, but I come to think of it, I heard that when Mando S1 ended, they finished shooting S2 already. So they had 2 years to figure this sht out before it released. I'm just at a loss on their vision. They already had an outline from the canon comics/legends.

This is a perfect example of why the writing sucks ass in this show. That fact could have been a simple line Boba Fett says during the climax of that scene. Average fans don’t know this.

The actor for Boba Fett argued with the director that he should keep his helmet on and have less lines. He truly believed Boba Fett should be more mysterious. He has interviews where he says just that.

it's not the actors fault, the actor himself said he wanted less dialog, to have his character maintain a more imposing, and having his female companion doing the talk for him
When Boba mentions his ship, I agree that it didn't make sense for him to call it "Slave 1" in that context. But it didn't make sense for him to call it a "Firespray class gunship" either. They forced that in to show that the name had changed. What he should have said was something like: "I have to get my ship back." That's it. That's the natural thing for him to have said.

When she is scanning the base, he could have said “its a modified Firespray class” or something like that.
Yeah, even if he was doing that for Fennec’s sake, that assumes she is familiar with that class of ship. So yeah, just calling it his ship would have been enough. It’s not like Jabba’s Palace had a bunch of ships parked there.

when the lead actor says "My character talks too much, I'm talking too much." You know there's a problem. Temura has been talking and tried to discuss with John and got shot down, and they still edited out most of the dialogue later, lol.

They've seriously missed out with this series. They had the opportunity to make Boba a really morally grey character with complex motivations (the character we all wanted). Add in Fennec with some more moral dilemma; Tatooine crime syndicates; and that gritty Star Wars feel in the 'lawless' era... perfect recipe. But no... let's just race speeder bikes through the streets at 5mph and have the most notorious bounty hunter chase a rat catching droid around Jabba's f**king kitchen.
Boba fett was amazing in the mandalorian, in this show he is like a completely different character, all of the good moments go to his side kick

I really want to know Dave Fillonis stance on the character change considering he was the one who gave us the latest version of boba prior to Disney's series.
In Daves stuff prior he was still a villain.
I feel like if this had been a Filoni project Boba would be more like a villain rather than just....boring. There's a lot of things audiences will forgive, but two they never will: bad sound and boring writing. If you have either your project is DOA.

i still find it very jarring how he's suddently weaker due to his acid skin damage, when in mandalorian we saw him effortlessly beat squads of stormtroopers, i hope they somehow explain that, and he's too nice for a crimelord, too lighthearted for this theme.

Fennec did almost all the cool stuff this episode. While Boba was like a slapstick comedy chasing a droid around and swinging his staff like a drunk, and he couldn't even pilot the ship he essentially *grew up in.* Meanwhile Fennec grabs the droid with ease, snipes 20 dudes, breaks the gate open with a throwing weapon, and kills the Sarlac!
Cool story. Let's just completely ignore the real best scene of the episode. Boba flying in with the Slave 1 and taking out the entire biker gang without any mercy.
You idiots are so blinded by hating on the show that you can't even acknowledge the cool parts.

The two scenes I genuinely liked were the Krrsantan bar scene and Boba wiping out the bikers in Slave 1 (sorry, the Friendship Barge 1). But those scenes didn't make up for the generally childish writing and the continued deconstruction of Boba into a passive pushover. Not by a long shot.

The Mod parlor scene at the beginning just killed my whole attitude for this Ep.
I think y'all are being way too mad about the mod parlor scene in episode 4. Trust me I fucking hate the mod squad but I feel like we wouldn't have hated the appearance of the ripperdoc in episode 4 if episode 3 wasn't as bad as it was.

Sad that by now in ep 4 the most exciting thing is musical theme of another character.
So far for me it's just like Hawkeye - titular character being sidelined in favour of development of others, setting up future spinoffs and possibly even Boba's rapid story finale.

Nothing in Phantom Menace on Tatoinne was as colorful and weird as those vespas lmao.
And the podrace compared to that city charge in episode 3 was a banger and you could actually feel how freaking fast these pods go.
I'm just thinking the colorful and chrome Vespa bike things are throwback nod and tribute to George Lucas. The bikes look like 1950s and 60s hot rods, which Lucas grew up with and used in his American Graffiti movie.
The prequels are super underrated especially compared to the new dog shit Disney Star Wars

They should have had flashbacks from different points in time in Boba’s past. Like a scene where Vader and him set up the capture of Luke and stuff like that. Maybe even stuff from his first bounties. Have each flashback be current Boba recalling different things he’s learned, new skills and weapons acquired from yesteryear. That way we get our fill of the classic Boba
Jesus that would have been a 1000x better show.
They're saving it for season 2. Obviously at some point he's going to get seriously injured at some point so he can go back into the bacta tank and have more flashbacks he can't even remember the details of... like that he never left his armour inside the Sarlaac pit

Firespray is the name of the type of ship Slave I is. Always has been. It's a Firespray-31-class attack and patrol craft. He calls it that because the name of his ship means nothing to Fennec. It would be like telling her they're getting the Millennium Falcon, anyone would be like "The fuck is an aluminum falcon?" you'd say you're getting a YT-1300, because people would know the ship designation. It's still the Slave I.

Exactly! A ship can be named anything, but that wouldn’t narrow down wtf it looks like. You say “Slave I” to someone who probably never saw it before, and they won’t know which ship in the hangar is yours. Say the type, and they will be able to understand its shape and size to narrow down where to search.

Meanwhile, Han Solo's first line in the entire franchise: "Han Solo - I'm captain of the Millennium Falcon."

What really damages the series is Fennek. They wrote it so that she does all the work. Without her Boba would have done everything himself... The show would be better with just Boba and his own stuggles

So he’s able to fail in that way and is forced to become ruthless as a leader. Fenneck sure would go out and assassinate who she’s asked and all that which might get on some of your nerves but the guy is old. Have him become an actual crime lord.
This way the story is the same as what they want and people aren’t too mad that he can’t. Have him teaching Fenneck a few things to get better at whatever she’s doing. Idk
Boba says he wants to rule with respect, not fear. That’s why he put the dinner table on top of the giant trap door that drops you into a monster den to be eaten. Maybe the chemicals from the pit damage a little further than just skin deep.
Nevermind the fact Boba forgets that he was still wearing his armor when he crawled out of the Sarlac. He also seems to have forgotten that Fennec Shand has these nifty little reconnaissance drones that they just used to map Jabba's palace, that could've safely searched for his armor.
How could the drones have helped them find the armor? It makes sense for boba to go to the last place where he remembers the armor being.

@@patrickmccallion9383 The drone literally mapped out the entire palace accurately and marked out life-beings; the point is why would Boba crawl in to the dead Sarlacc instead of using her drone to scan if it was down there in the first place?
I feel like Temeura himself would probably agree with you guys. He clearly knows the character better than the writers do.
Or he knows that Boba works best as an idea, because that's what people have been enamored with for years. Boba looked cool, we were told he was a badass, he died (or so we were led to believe) in a lame way, and somehow his myth persisted. You take away from that by trying to have the audience suddenly sympathize with him

This episode again makes it look as if Boba Fett forgot how to be a badass. I guess that part of him dissolved in the sarlacc pit?
They had him do some slapstick bot chase in the kitchen and do some awkward flying Slave1 while Fennec is the one who's being the badass.
The ratcatcher was a cute little bot but they use Boba's rep there to scare the bot while boba himself is freekin' soft in this show so far.
Again, this is the guy that got told by DARTH VADER _not to disintegrate people_ . How is this done by the same people who made the Mandalorian? Din Djarin was so much more like we expected Boba to be then the _ACTUAL_ Boba Fett

They make it seem like the Tuskans made him more civilized by being with them for five years. But them getting killed should have snapped him back to the boba fett we know. He had nothing left to lose when he was a badass so taking the only thing he cared about should have put him back to this ruthless killer that gets the job done. Right? The only way I guess they can explain why he's such a coward is that the sarlacc made him more fragile. But they already took that excuse away with that scene where they say he's fully healed from the bacta tank. And is his jetpack repaired from when Luke hit it or does he wear it to just wear it?
If they just made Boba Fett a character clone of Jango Fett (which he actually is) the show would be a lot better

Bro I’m the biggest boba Fett fan and they are slandering him HARD in the show and I’m genuinely confused why, why are they doing this to boba Fett. My theory is unfortunately they are testing to see if they can throw some bullshit together and we watch it because of who’s the star and unfortunately they used boba Fett to do this. I fear that they plan to kill him in the end and my hope was that they would keep the Fett line going by letting him have a child. Now I have nothing but despair for the character.

The name of gunship was and is Slave One. When Boba says Firespray Gunship, he's talking about the model of the ship. Same as the model of Millenium Falcon is Corellian Light Freighter. So Boba was just saying to Fennec what kind of ship he has.
They knew what the fuck they were doing, especially since there was a controversy about changing the name a few months back.

I was worried that this series would make Boba Fett too nice, but it's exceeding my expectations. It's making him FAR too nice, and too stupid. *Slow clap for Disney.*
Instead of having him go back to the Sarlaac to look for his armor, they should have written that he went back to kill it either as revenge or to prevent others from using the creature as a tool for execution, considering he witnessed first hand just how cruel and horrible getting eaten by a Sarlaac is. Would have made way more sense.

If theres any consolidation, by the time the Sequel Trilogy starts, Boba Fett is mentioned as surpassing Jango as an infamous bounty hunter according to Hondo.
Grasping straws here but I think it might hint that he might go back to his old ways.

Hondo says he's a friend of Jango, and meeting his son and knowing he's following his footsteps, we can assume that he kept tabs on Boba. Hondo would know in some way what Boba is doing and not confuse being a War Lord with a Bounty Hunter.
Boba gunning down the speeders in the Slave 1 is the first time in this series we finally see Boba Fett being Boba Fett.

Temuera Morrison even said that he didn't think Boba should have as much dialogue and should have his helmet on more, but Jon Favreau didn't listen to him, so even the actor has problems with the show. All the blame is on Jon Favreau.
I don’t blame him. He just wrote the Season. It was the costume designers, it was the directors, etc.
Imagine watching a Sherlock Holmes show and it's Watson who is solving all the crimes. That's what watching this show feels like to me.
Fennec character should be looking up to Boba Fett being a legendary Badass and think to herself: wow this man is worth following.

Having a side character that works off the main character is completely fine but it has to be within reason. All of the apologists try defending the Vespa gang by saying that we just don't like it because it's different and colorful. That is not even the problem. An important thing to note, they didn't rename Boba's ship they're just now referring to it by the ship's model name which is the Firespray 31 attack and patrol gunship. Just like how the Millennium Falcon is a Corellian Freighter the Slave 1 is a Firespray gunship.

I wasn't a fan of the Pod Racing either, but what Pod Racing wasn't was a homage to 1960's colourful Britpop mopeds completely out of place on Tatooine with a slow ass chase scene. If they'd done it on the standard speeder bikes then it'd have been more in keeping with the setting.
I have high expectations from Star Wars because it's been much loved part of my life, and sadly those expectations have been consistently subverted under Kathleen Kennedy's stewardship with the exception of Rogue One and aspects of The Mandalorian.

It would be hilarious if they had Boba Fett this ungainly as a sign that he can't be anything other than a Bounty Hunter and so he fails and fails until he accepts his purpose as a bounty hunter and suddenly becomes competent again.
But I now know the writers wouldn't do that. They are very committed to this idea of Boba being reborn, which isn't a bad idea in of itself, but has had some very unfocused and sloppy execution. I would rather Boba not have Fennec as a sidekick at this point because she is taking too much away from him as a character. I would rather Boba be shown to be able to stand on his own more often like in episode 2. Episode 2 is still my favorite.
I have a feeling that someone replaced the real John Favreau with an imposter (like the buterflies in Peacemaker). Or maybe it was Dave Filoni that is the key to SW series writing all the time and John didn't really write anything for the Mandalorian...

How did we go from Boba being a badass in The Mandalorian (him vs stormtroopers and him vs koska reeves) to this? He also had more personality in The Mandalorian, here he just feel like a one-liner character. I have my fingers crossed for the final three episodes, but so far I'm a little disappointed in the show. Like everything looks great and the plot is interesting but maybe some better writing, additional episodes and a little more action from Boba himself would of done the show a favor.

Come on guys, this was entertaining, ep3 was a bit cringe, but this was a definite step up.
The Sarlac scene was one of the cringiest displays of fanservice I've ever seen. It's like two drunk casual fans were like "br- bruh like what's the CRAZIEST way Boba could get revenge on the Sarlac?" "Dude, what if he like, somehow, dropped a seismic charge it it's mouth" "BROOOOOO". And they just wrote it in and sacrificed any lick of logic or believability.
I didn't hate the Mods this time around. Last episode they were goofy and campy and basically just written for children. This time around they seemed to be at least a little capable. Showing how they saved Fennec's life, and that arm module which I thought was an awesome blend of conceptually being from Cyberpunk and having that practical effect flair that Star Wars is so well known for. They don't necessarily need to be fighters, and so when Fennec says "the mods are combing the streets, he won't get away" I thought that was dope as hell. Boba has a network of informants on the streets of Moss Espa? Hell yeah! But other than that, Boba being an idiot the whole series is a turn off. Maybe they're trying to say "don't meet your heroes" cause I think those Sarlac digestive fumes got to his head. Not to mention Fennec was the only one pulling any weight this episode. If I wasn't already 4 episodes into this 7 part series I'd probably just drop it. So, we'll see where it goes from here I suppose.

I've seen this said in multiple reviews about how Boba is an idiot because he doesn't remember his armor was stolen from him. He's an idiot for going in the Sarlacc's mouth with Slave 1, sure. But, is it really unreasonable that he could possibly have had a concussion and was exhausted and thus has no recollection of how he lost his armor? I feel like people aren't being fair in this regard.
I think if he had said anything like that, it'd probably have been accepted by some at least. But the viewer shouldn't have to create their own rationalization of why something happened, and definitely can't blame others for not sharing in the same rationalization.
For me, problem is less that he didn't remember where the armor was, but that he assumed it was inside it rather than looking all around the outside, back at the Tusken camp, and basically everywhere between those points before going this route. This is 5 years later so not currently concussed nor exhausted. No rational person would think "oh, I must've taken the armor off inside and left it there and climbed out without any weapons or protection."
This is more Bobby Fett then Boba Fett. They've taken away everything that made him a cool bad ass bounty hunter and turned him into a soft, dumb, character. As intimidating as a Gonk Droid.
Boba was never supposed to be a hero or a nice guy. His ship was called Slave 1 because he was not a nice guy. They've made a major mistake assuming fans wouldn't watch a show where the lead character was a bad guy. Literally all the top rated premium shows of the last 15 years have been about an anti-hero. The mis-step here is unreal.
Calling it now, the series will end with Boba surviving but handing his armour on to someone else. Most likely his other clone.
Why was Boba looking for his armour in the Sarlacc? Because after he punched his way out of the sand, HE PASSED OUT!!!!!! THAT IS HOW THE JAWAS FOUND HIM AND GOT HIS ARMOUR! He doesn't start remembering stuff until the Tuskens, he DOESN'T REMEMBER that he got out of the Sarlacc and was found by Jawas first. Like, it's fine that you don't like the show, but don't hack on it for stuff that you just weren't paying attention to...

We had Boba Fett being Boba Fett for 5 seconds in this episode when he mowed down the Nikto gang. I thought this show would be about Boba the anti-hero, ruthless but not a douche - Instead we got this good samaritan Bantha cuddling Boba who thinks it's overkill to threaten some clerk to get what he wants. - His interactions with the Sand People had something but he was way to invested and went out of his way early on to help and protect them imo - He might aswell have been Obi-Wan at that point. Here's hoping something cool comes of it but thus far it's very disappointing.

Man I actually loved this episode, I thought episode 3 wasn’t great, but this one was good. Boba killing the whole biker gang was super cool, the action was pretty good, I liked the scene with the Sarlac, and they showed boba killing Fortuna which was pretty badass.
Episode 5 is the best Episode yet and it's all about Mando lol
Fun fact, Napoleon forced other factions into allying with him only to find that their alliance was paper thin and they were eager to turn on him the moment they had a chance. Trying to intimidate the other crime lords into fighting for Boba Fett would probably not have worked.

It's so odd that Boba murders Stormtroopers, helps Mando, and goes and murders Bib Fortuna, and then immediately transitions into a bitch. A few days after doing that, he's saying Fennec's threatening of the mayor's assistant is "a bit heavy handed, don't ya think?" Like what??
I hope this is just Boba Fett sandbagging everyone to think he's weak, then when the Pikes come to try and him: WHAM!! BADASS BOBA MURDERING EVERYONE!!! Like this is a strategy of his. Make everyone think he's too nice, he's too weak and suddenly someone pushes him to far.

I hope your right, but i feel this is wishful thinking and you could be saying the same thing by the end of the season, maybe next season ..... The arc of this season is weird, the progression is slow. The flashbacks are the best bits IMO, for atmosphere and we kinda know where they are going. As we get closer to or into the present its gets progressively worse, Boba makes dumber moves and behaves more neutered. Its not a show I will watch immediately again, like the madalorian, or likely ever again.

I like the show but the pacing is abit too slow. I really liked the flashback with the tuskens, kinda see how it humbled him, but I feel like it should had been over with the 2 first episode and the lack of "action" like there's some conflict in the present storyline but it's not been that cool to be frank I dont need Boba to be an unstoppable baddass but give us a scene of Boba kicking ass like in the mandalorian. hopefully we will see that now with him being fully healed and what it seems like that big events about to happen. This episode was better because the scene of Boba just earasing the biker gang was gratifying that's what I want.

I'm confused about the statement, " Boba fett is my favorite character". Why? How? You have no information about Boba Fett from any film or show except Mandalorian...and there he is exactly as he appears in this show. You have the story of a bounty hunter who is old remember he was a grown boy before the clone wars so years before Luke was born and many years after Sarlac Pitt Masters because Luke is in full command of his powers. A bounty hunter who survives a lawless galaxy will have developed wisdom. He has a partner, so something has changed from the days of the lone wolf. We don't know what that is. What we do know is that before this no one, including you, knew anything about Boba Fett.
Agree. I am not a big fan of this show but, to be honest. Boba Fett was always a blimp on the Star Wars radar. He is insignificant on this universe. Of course Disney is not making him enjoyable, but I still don't even know why He got his own series.
Not being ageist (I'm almost as old!), but you have to keep in mind, Morrison is 61. Perhaps he should have indeed kept the helmet on more, so they could use more stunt doubles in the fight sequences. If this is only a year or two after Ep V-VI, then he's aged a helluva lot from the warrior flying around Jabba's sand barge & fighting an (almost) Jedi. I guess we can chalk that down to the Sarlac pit and desert trials that have taken a toll on his body, but still...
For the record, not that it matters, Jeremy Bulloch was 38 in RotJ, although anyone could have done the stunts as he never took his helmet off.
But yeah, the character is now far too inconsistent and incongruous to be believable. If you want to be a crime boss, you have do & control crime ffs, and be pretty ruthless. If you want to change and do good, clean up the city, fine, but just call yourself the Governor or something.
