@I see it like this I feel like I really loved the originals, and waited years to see what would come of if we were going to get the third film, literally would check annually. After a while I figured it's too late honestly, Ron's too old now to give us solid actions scenes without hurting himself. I'm still bitter about it too because it's so clearly unfinished, but this new Hellboy is still definitely a 6.5 out of 10. It's a good fun entertaining movie. Not as good as the originals, but still good. I'd say watch it, my wife and I enjoyed it quite a bit and even though there's a stark difference between the two portrayals, the new one isn't all that bad, still pretty close to the comic book iteration.
I love this guy, I met him once in Portland and I asked him if they were working on hellboy three (this was a little bit after the second one came out). And he basically told me "I sure hope so because my ex wife is getting expensive and the money has to come from somewhere." he is a pretty funny guy and I loved getting to talk to him.
Indeed he put quite a lot of time and effort into that character and for him not be able to bring a conclusion to the character must be heart breaking for him
Yea he sounded he wasn't in the mood when they were talking about it i think he was getting emotional since he knows he won't get a 3rd movie or play the role anymore.
I have that Marvel Select Cable figure, it always reminds me of Ron. Look for images of that figure, it will give you an idea of how Ron would look as Cable
What makes Pearlman so special isn't just his look or even that iconic voice, it's that he understands his roles in a way that shines through his performances.
Yes, missing Ron Pearlman , but also Guillermo Del Toro who makes unique, magical movies, I don't think the new Hellboy will measure up to his artistic attention to detail. He makes very special, thought provoking, movies that resonate long after you've watched them. Most other directors /movie makers can't come close.....
Trailer aside for the new movie. The director and Mike Nolan have said many times that this new movie is going to be closer to the comics and I hope he's right. Alot of people complaining about the movie are only basing it on the trailer which is a little sad
sundriedtomato No... Basing a complaint off a simple descrption of the movie would be sad... Basing it off a trailer is completely fine, as a trailer is meant to hint at the movies tone and plot... And me and many others aren't liking that trailer... I dont mean to come off rude if... I really do hope this movies turns out good, but im doubting it...
The original Hellboy movies had such balance. The dynamics between the main characters were charming and believable. -John Hurt as Hellboy's adoptive father was so sagely and magical in his demeanor. The creators of the comic book even say that his portrayal of Bruttenholm was "uncanny". As if he were the original inspiration for the character in the first place. -Selma Blair is so hot as Liz (lol no pun intended) and she really sells me with her character's tortured past. Her interactions between two entirely different men like Hellboy and Myers is both comedic and touching. -Abe's character, brought so wonderfully to fruition by both Doug Jones and David Pierce is a precise, intellectual foil to Hellboy's rough and tumble approaches (I also like how their nicknames are simply 'Red' and 'Blue' when on missions together). -Jeffrey Tambor is great and pretty funny as Manning even though his character tries to look tough in front of Hellboy. -Rupert Evans as Myers does a wonderful job of showing us just how different and how much more powerful Hellboy is compared to an everyman character. -Ron Perlman, the man of the hour, the solid rock foundation of the film, fits so sublimely as Hellboy that it's almost funny. There's no silly accents or gimmick traits to try and make us love his character more than we already do. He makes you feel like Hellboy is real. He's so grounded despite his fantastical nature and origin. All the better to have us latch onto him and every charisma-dripping word of his.
@TallCoFlyBoy Yeah, so I googled that shit and I can't find anything about Ron Perlman being involved with Corey Feldman. Not a thing. You should provide a source or be presumed to be making this up.
@@TheSchantz3 He's talking about "Ron Crimson', which is the pseudonym Feldman used for Jon Grissom, in discussing his sexual abuse as a child actor. It has nothing to do with Ron Perlman.

Heart breaking to hear Ron's thoughts on this. Hellboy 1 & 2 to me are the quintessential hero movies of the time. I grew up with Hellboy, Daredevil & The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen but Hellboy always stood out. Its obvious that Ron cared as much about the films as the fans and its a shame he didn't get to finish the series in the way he'd hoped
You forgetting about Blade? Yeah I know the third one had its problems, but the first two are two I go back to every couple years and re watch because they are really good.

@@lordmawkish1286 I don't even know. All I know was I was hearing that it was ganna be done a couple years after the 2nd but that came and went and nothing ever happened. I honestly thought this was ganna be the 3rd movie when I first saw mention of it but was sadly disappointed when I saw it was a reboot.
Why cant they do an animated movie with Ron Perlman voicing him so we can get the 3rd movie we never got? It would cost them a fraction of the price and they would make at least a pretty decent profit on it.
Their are two animated Hellboy movies with Ron Perlman. Check them out. That said, I would have loved for them to close out the trilogy in live-action. You can tell how close that role was to his heart.
With all the cookie-cutter trash that’s churned out of Hollywood, the studio execs couldn’t even finish what they’d started. Why abandon a series that was already critically and commercially successful, only to restart it again??? David Harbour’s a good choice but Perlman’s set the bar as high as it can go for anybody playing Hellboy into the future. Direction by Guillermo Del Toro, Cinematography by Guillermo Navarro, and musical score by Danny Elfman, and the rest of the delightful ensemble cast added to Perlman’s picture perfect performance... sigh, I still want this trilogy finished... it had heart.
Mlems Smelm True, by today’s standards and box office expectations of comic book adaptations, those numbers aren’t all that impressive. No doubt the third film would have been a lock if it had grossed closer to $300m (still a reasonably low figure by today’s standards). Although given the notoriously corrupt Hollywood accounting practices, all their numbers can be taken with a grain of salt: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood_accounting
*The Hellboy films strayed as far as possible from the comics. The new one, believe it or not, has Mike Mignola's approval, it's comic accurate, it has tons of fanservice, and probably good*
@Liam Krauser they might not have been MCU type numbers but I doubt they would have made a sequel if Hellboy wasn't commercially successful. You have to remember what's a mega hit now is different from what was considered a big hit back then

I love David Harbour, but there’s a reason GDT petitioned so long to get Ron Perlman. He has that infernal regality to him, that eternal furnace in his voice, and that presence that just fills up a whole room. These aren’t things you just find.
If Hellboy II didn't come out literally right before The Dark Knight in 2008, it would have been a bigger hit and we would have already had a third film made by this point. I didn't particularly love The Golden Army, I'd still give it a solid 3 out of 5, but I loved that first Hellboy film. The sequel was lacking John Hurt (apart from the intro; which was great, minus the odd look to young Hellboy) and Rupert Evans (who was essentially the heart of the original film). Still, I believe Perlman's right with saying that this third film would have been something truly special and a great way to cap-off this franchise. Such a shame they had to go and reboot it instead (somehow I imagine this reboot not turning out so well at the box-office, no matter how well/poorly received it is, because I don't think audiences are going to take too well to a different actor playing Hellboy when they've invested so much into Perlman, who could have clearly still played him).
If that's the case, they probably won't even bother seeing this remake and the studio's gonna wish they stuck it out with del Toro instead (especially considering his recent Oscar wins).
@@thejon93rd You underestimate how interesting hellboy is. Mike Mignola made a fantastic character and the comics are a solid foundation for any of the films. Hellboy as a character is interesting enough to pull in casual audiences without the help of del toro or perlman.
Just because it's a "superhero" movie, doesn't mean it's automatically going to make money. I understand there's interesting source material to explore here with Hellboy as a comic-book character, but, I'm just saying, maybe people won't respond to it as well as they do for others. Not every comic-based film is gonna be a surprise hit at the box-office, such as Venom (a movie many thought would fail financially, however it has done great business for Sony instead). We'll see how this reboot does when it arrives; I'm not expecting it to be a terrible movie, let me just admit that, I just don't believe this will be a hit for the studio, unless they're REALLY pulling out all the stops to make this a film people want to see... because, right now, I don't see or believe the hype).

@@02honeydew Not Lionsgate fault, GDT wanted 150+ million for the 3rd. The 2nd movie barely broke even with 160 mil worldwide. They were great films, that sadly weren't supported with ticket sales. A film typically has to make double it's budget to break even. HB2 was 90 million before marketing, distribution, theater revenue sharing, etc.. 70-80% of films don't make money back, it's why they try to milk brands/franchises.
My dad took me to see hellboy in theatres, and I was instantly hooked (born in 96 btw). They really dropped the ball putting out that crappy trailer. I've a feeling the movie itself will be better than the trailer makes it look though. Hope so anyway.
I see a lot ppl misplacing blame. There's a lot of reasons HB3 didn't go through. 1. HB movies barely broke even. It takes a movie double it's budget to break even, after you add millions for advertising, distribution, theater revenue sharing, etc.. 2. GDT wanted 150+ million to do part 3.. part 2 only did 160 worldwide. The sales just didn't excuse the budget. It was a huge risk. 3. Actors move on.. It sucks but its a case of great movies, never getting the sales they deserved.
It's always about money, plain and simple. Good story/fan satisfaction never is the top priority. Case in point, as divisive as The Last Jedi was, it still raked in billions. As long as Disney's stockholders are happy, it's good enough for the studio.
I'm sure the production costs for the reboot will still be quite high and the "R" rating will massively restrict sales - it's going to be Suicide Squad all over again
Hellboy was a huge movie as far as DVD sales and cable, I have no doubt both films were quite profitable in the end (boxoffice alone it was close, but Hellboy is the type of film that got viewed a lot after the fact). The bigger factor (if true) might be Del Toro asking a big fee, sure, and at some point too much time passing

While I like the other actor, he's good in Stranger Things, the trailer looks like he's doing a Ron Pearlman impression of Ron playing Hellboy. He even seems like he's trying to do an impression of Ron's voice with his lower parts, but the voice is all wrong when he talks "normal" or yells.
I'd honestly love if some network like HBO gave Hellboy 3 the Showtime/Twin Peaks treatment and gave Del Toro and Perlman the opportunity to do Hellboy 3 with full creative control and budget. Wouldn't be as grand, but the line between film/television has grown slim as is and many shows already have multi million dollar budgets.

I remember being a Hellboy fan before any Iron Man or Avenger movie come out.
Loved it !

@@lordmawkish1286 I don't even know. All I know was I was hearing that it was ganna be done a couple years after the 2nd but that came and went and nothing ever happened. Cin3mattic it’s been done
I'll never give up hope for a Hellboy 3 starring Ron. The most perfect casting in the history of cinema and they done away with him.

Better Hellboy and better Vincent (Beauty and the Beast, I'm comparing with the CW version).
Brian Boudrot I agree with you.😀
If Hellboy II didn't come out literally right before The Dark Knight in 2008, it would have been a bigger hit and we would have already had a third film made by this point.
I think it will do better (financially)
I like David harbour as hellboy more than I do them making a hellboy 3. I think David is going to be great as hellboy. He seems perfect for the role and it will be a new take on the character

I mean “great” is a stretch let’s be honest.
Stan was too big to hurt, at least for me, it was more shock and general sadness, like when Bowie died or Robin Williams but Schnepp felt like a personal loss. That one still hurts when I think about it. But cheers to the legend and the hero he helped make.
tony pinto 😕🙁☹️🥺😭
Wait! What? He died???
Rest in peace John snip! and you to Stan Lee!
Need Ron back, he still has unfinished business as you can see from the interview. Ron is the hellboy we want and deserve
Ron will always be my he'll boy. Guys a legend.
Hollywood KNOWS how to screw up a good thing
I grew up with HELLBOY through middle and high school. He's epic!
9/30 Studios this new one will be insane!!
Not only was Perlman good in the movies but was funny too.
Agreed. Even though he was a red demon with horns, he was still relatable.
Ron Perlman is just a far better actor
He elevates any project he is part of.
Let's not just make that decision just yet let's give him a chance and see how he does...
Man, I was anticipating a trilogy after part 2. It was a bummer not to see it happened. Loved the Hellboy movies. Ron Perlman is a LEGEND.
They should make an animated version of the movie guillermo wanted to make
This right here🙌🏻
I'd honestly love if some network like HBO gave Hellboy 3 the Showtime/Twin Peaks treatment and gave Del Toro and Perlman the opportunity to do Hellboy 3 with full creative control and budget. Wouldn't be as grand, but the line between film/television has grown slim as is and many shows already have multi million dollar budgets.
there are some animated hellboy movies, i remember i watched 2 and the voice was from Ron
don't give disney any ideas
Or a video game! Would be better!
Your voice is real hellboy.
Hellboy without Perlman is like Solid Snake without David Hayter.
O ya? Cause Kurt Russel was not character in two films. Sick burn brah.
Unfortunity were getting oscar Isaacs, at least with david being cast as hellboy it wasnt agenda driven!! Unlike the new mgs movie being made
Ron Perlman’s facial features were perfect for the character. Then you add his East Coast personality. . Perfect
You will always be the only actor to play hellboy to perfection to me Ron. The character you portrayed brought a lot of reality, believability of the hellboy persona... funny, playful, true superhero when need to be
You will always be my Hellboy, Ron.
Even though we never got it, thank you for pushing and fighting for it.
Ron Pearlman WILL ALWAYS BE HELLBOY!!!!!!. 👹👹👹👹😈😈😈😈😈😈
My nigga he's the best hell boy
“I dont want to talk about it” so the whole interview is them continually opening the wound
Collider is killing it
Too bad nobody watching
I miss the old team, from Amc, movie talk, that show, started it all, and is the reason, we all got into watching the show...RIP JON
My first memory of Ron Perlman was in a tv series called Beauty and the Beast ..he was Vincent and Ive been a huge fan since..he is Hellboy and Hellboy will not be the same without him..its a shame they didn't let him do the trilogy.
@keithblood560: Yep. Brilliant, but unfortunately short lived, T.V. series "Beauty & the Beast" ( 1987 - 1990 ) - starred Ron Perlman as "Vincent" ( the "Beast" character, ) along with brilliant actress Linda Hamilton [ earlier of 'The Terminator' ( 1984, ) and later of 'Terminator II: Judgement Day' ( 1991 ) fame ] as "Catherine" ( the "Beauty" character. )
Why did he not voice Hellboy in Injustice?!?
Bruh I was thinking the same
Probably too expensive. Ron is established in the voice acting community too.
Shut the hell up?!?
MrStrikecentral it’s the only time anyone else has ever voiced hellboy
Yeah it didnt feel right hearing it
Now that the remake is shit hopefully we can get the real sequel now
I'll always be bummed we didn't get Hellboy 3.
Maybe ,,, This might reopen the doors
he is always my Hellboy
The mask that David wears looks terrible in my opinion
I think David could play a great bellboy, but something about the lips and the eyebrows just looks fucked up, and I blame the makeup department, not him
Yeah, makeup was bad
@@tskwared667 it's the only thing bugging me as of the latest trailer. It's like hellboy got stung on the face by bees.
It's like a freakin B grade Horror movie makeup. My disappointment is immeasurable. The Guilermo - Pearlman combo is irreplaceable!!
@@sam.aj.87 I always middleground in situations like this... But dammit, yer right.
3:55 That Del Toro impression is SPOT ON hahahah
When I saw a new actor for Hellboy I no longer wanted to see it
me too
there is something weird about his face & horn
So annoying how it’s not pearlman
Guys like fucking 60 though.
Ditto !
I felt the exact same way.
there will NEVER EVER be another hellboy like RON PERLMAN and to do it without him is an atrocity to the character he played the fans want him and only him so sorry for me he will always be the 1 AND ONLY HELLBOY = RON PEARLMAN always
Daaamn.... my wish is to be able to see the hellboy 3 for closure made by guillermo del toro... It will never happen
@@BennyGoId Del Toro personally wants as much as Hellboy 2 MADE, so yeah, not ever going to happen.
Thank you Ron for introducing Hellboy😈 to us.
I only watched the second movie, it was fantastic!!! I only recently realized it's been 10 years and no sequel.
Hellboy is awesome!! 😈
