Awesome video. I had been following another one, but when I got to the pulley, the mower they had didn't have that assembly around the pulley that yours (and mine) have, so I was lost. You helped me get the rest of the way through!

Great video you saved me, couldn't get the belt off the rear pulley.
Toro tried to screw me with SQUARE head screws on the rear pulley but I pulled out a set of various tips purchased at Home Depot 30 years ago and found the correct one.

Mate I have just replaced the belt on my Toro mower following your guide on your video. All went well with no problems at all, in fact it was very easy. Other videos are a little more complicated so yours was very easy to follow and do. Thank you very much for your video

My mower is 20 years old and I replaced the belt once already. I have to replace it again, but I always like using the genuine belt. Apparently Toro does not sell this belt anymore. So I will have to rule the dice with an off-brand belt.

I must have a rare Toro personal pace mower, mine is 15 years old and never had the belt replaced . Works like a new one. I hose it out and dry it off after each uses.

Ok, here is some critical information, for those of us, with an electric/pull start system, and the black battery box on the deck of the mower. Ok, YES, there is a bolt underneath the box. But, it is towards the back of the mower, and you will see a slightly raised section of the box, that does not touch the deck, but sit's above it, about 1/4-3/8". The bolt you have to access is, literally in that notch, towards the backside of the black box/mower. And, I have found, that the box is riveted to the deck. So, for full access, you will have to rip the box off of the top of the deck, revealing 2 of the 3 bolts, as the 2nd bolt is, along the left side of the black battery box, just underneath the side front corner. But, if you are able to remove all of the plastic covers off of the back, including the flapper, for the bag. As, the top of the flapper for the bag hatch, is literally what has you blinded from seeing the bolt in the first place, besides the battery box itself. And, since I can't start it with the key anymore(Long story short, the cable harness was ripped out of the key starter switch, and ruined it), so it's pretty useless to me, at the moment. So, I decided to just rip the black box itself off. Which, made it much more simpler to access all 3 bolt's, for the plastic belt guard underneath. Also, it is a good idea to take a plastic bag(Walmart bags will do fine), and use it underneath the gas cap, by taking the cap off, then draping the bag(Double layer, by using whole bag) over the open hole, then screw the cap back on, and you now have a sealed gas cap, from leaking...

I received this mower as a gift from my wife's cousin. I have an old personal pace mower with a Honda engine on it. I have not replaced the belt on that one yet. The free one like yours the belt is shot because the someone took the blade off and the pulley came off with it and they did not get the belt back on when they put it back and the pulley smoked the side of the belt it had been only use 4 times. This will make it easy on the free one but the older one is a little bit different being it has a magnesium deck on it. Thanks for sharing. Ordering a belt.

  • @ninemilliondollars

It's unnecessary to remove the wheels. Use a 3/8" open wrench and you can loosen the four bolts just inside of the wheels so the plastic guard under the lawnmower comes loose. There is enough room to remove those bolts by sligltly moving the wheels left and right. Saves lots of work. Do remember you need a #2 screwdriver - officially called a "Square Recess Screwdriver" for the bolts holding the pulley belt to the drive pulley in the rear. You can buy the screwdriver in hardware/home improvement stores.

The square bit is called a Robertson in North America and is included with both screw driver sets here. Superiority to Philips.

I have a 28 year old Lawnboy Gold series made by Toro where the entire belt is on the top of the deck . The belt and the 3 speed transmission have never failed in all that time and I cut a 1/4 acre once a week. Why can't they make them like that anymore? Planed obsolescence ? Except for cleaning and greasing the small drive gears so they will slip when going backwards and replacing the wheels when they wore out and split the drive train has been trouble free. What recently failed the blower housing from metal fatigue where it bolted to the engine from so many pull starts and I replaced the pull cord itself once.

  • @rayminthecat

Wow that belt and pulley system is designed to slip when the mower is in neutral! Mine is 2 and a half years old and needs a belt. I guess I thought there was some other type of clutch than just a pulley on a spring.

Agree... Was surprised with this design for many brands. It looks like a cheap Chinese toys really :) Such belt`s service life looks like very limited and... practically, it isn`t an easy way to replace it. Disappointed with this
