In our family, we have both. However, the Hilux does handle the dirt better but the Ford is better on the long open roads for comfort. Both vehicles average out the same fuel in a moth so that doesn't come into question. Parts do, Toyota are more expensive than the Ford, however, less places to find Ford parts and many more place stock all the Toyota parts...

Watch out for transmission issues and oil pump issues in the ranger. Mitsubishi is an absolute tank. Had an l200 for 150 000kms half of them were towing a trailer on bad roads too. Had a Mitsubishi colt too, v6 club cab and did 100 000kms on it on bad roads with heavy payloads too. Sold them when we stopped that job line. The triton was the 3.2 DI-D 4x4 double cab top spec. What a machine, comfortable, reliable, stable at up to 160km/h cruising. Never had a hiccup on any of them. All we ever changed was oil once every 10 000kms. Now running a 2.4 4x2 double cab gd6 Hilux w/a manual transmission. Got 120 000kms on it and 50 000 kms have been to the mines and on bad Pot holed roads and Off-road into the pits. It's a machine, we still have it and have never had an issue on it and man has it been thrashed. Only ever changed oil at the dealership. So let me tell you this, the Japanese cars (Specifically Mitsubishi, Toyota, Isuzu, In order of reliability respectively) are the best you can buy. My buddy's uncle has a 3.2 ranger with the automatic that he got new and it's been sitting with a dead gearbox for almost a year now at Ford. Transmission is an absolute wreck and oil filter, pump and head gasket are bugging too. We only rock Japanese cars man and they prove them test of time. My dad's friend has an Isuzu that's got 600 000 kms, original engine and gearbox. It lived it's whole life on the farm too. Scrap Ford off your book if you know what's good for you. Consider only Mitsubishi, Toyota and Isuzu. You won't regret it!

Ranger is a car made for urban roads. Hilux is a truck that has more payload and pulling power. It’s made for what picks are intended work. Particulary if it’s has the 4 cylinder diesel. It’s a basic truck with beastly pulling power for its class. No comfort all truck! Like they use to make them. I’d take one in a heartbeat you can actually get a Hilux brand new in Mexico for 23,000-26,000 dollars what did you pay for your ranger that was built and designed off the Taurus chassis, when they designed the truck err car. The Hulu’s is number one in its class in payload, towing and it’s not close. And it’s a torquey little truck. You won’t be disappointed with the trip over the border Particulary with add features. Seriously what other small truck has a add on turret mount as a potential option for the farmer who wants to get rid of Varmints and unwanted suitors for thier daughters. 🤪😏 thier options are only limited by your imagination 😆🤣
Does it annoy anyone else that the top and bottom of the rangers lights are not symmetrical? Could just be me but I love everything about the car except for that

They really don’t call it as it is do they, no wireless Apple car play, the amarok didn’t have rear airbags and got bagged big time, yet you promoted toyota as a good buy when it lags big time in modern safety standards compared to ranger and Dmax, the capacity is terrible in toyota GCM wise no mention, Hilux has a terrible seat position close to the floor pan and pivot system that hits your head into the roof when you lift it up.
Ranger if you're looking for a family truck since it really is nicer and techy you can't take it away from the new-gen ranger. If you're looking for one to batter around and will give you more bang for buck with the reliability, resale value, availability of parts then go for the hilux. The new -gen ranger is for city and light driving imo since I'm driving the Wildtrak 4x2. Look-wise interior and exterior the Ranger looks WAAAY cooler than the Hilux hands down. We have yet to see how it does over the years so nobody can really say anything about it in the long run really. We need both cars with 200k then compare for fairness in this one.
I don't understand you have a Toyota Hilux that you are reviewing that is a higher class then the Ford Ranger XLT which is bottom of the range. A true comparison would be a SR5 VS Ford Ranger Sport.
Even my 5 year boy knows what’s a bakkie, Hilux, plus my sister also know that more turbos more heat, and you guessed it more oil leaks as seals cry for cooler engine compartment😂
Although I see that ford ranger XLT has more advance features than Hylux, I still believe that hylux is more easy going and reliable than ford. I've experienced latest ford ranger 2022 models having problems with the system early and still a hylux 2015 or latest model is still going strong. Anyway, thanks for the latest updates on both model👍
Talking about Technology reviews, did you compare the handsfree call quality between the two? Because I've heard terrible things about the call quality for people on the other end.
This is a test of ' family ' vehicles, who would have thought just a few years ago. The punters decide what they want to drive combined with clever marketing.
I just bought the sr5 dual cab. Put my old canopy on it from my old car, a dual cab bt50, and wow is the fuel economy on the hilux beyond atrocious, my bt 50, with the same weight was getting 300km per tank more then the hilux. I'm keeping this for maybe a year or 2 then getting rid of it. Of fuel economy is important to you, do not buy one.
Ford is the leader in pickups for a reason. You will be happy with one. I've driven them since 1988, that first one went 334,000 miles in 10 years. It ran and looked good enough at that point that someone at a stop light sitting beside me offered to buy it. A very good offer, in fact. My current one has over 220,000 miles, I'm retired and drive it less because I switched to Focus as my daily driver, and that old truck has been even better than the first one was.
Even with the fluctuation in the economy, I’m so excited I’ve already making over 85% profit from my current investment. Mrs Angela Cole Carr you are so amazing.
This is really amazing because I just found out about her strategy last month. I'm incredibly pleased with the performance of my portfolio so far and know I'll be in the green soon.
I'm also a proud beneficiary! I've built my portfolio massively and still building. Started with a TH-cam referral just like this and a few thousands. I'm way up to the profits now.
You forgot how the ranger has issues with over heating transmissions, computer issues, peeling bed liner, vibrations through the tail shaft and has been reported by channel 9 with customers buying the vehicle and they haven’t lasted more than a few weeks before having to have a complete vehicle exchange due to the rangers breaking system locking on by itself at 80 kms per hour, then you forgot how Toyota have increased prices in what is a nothing special model, seeing the hilux hit the $80 grand mark but no improvements. Over all Australians are robbed blind on every brand in the country when it comes to full and mid size pick ups.
Yes, in a working ute, the more gadgets and doodads are important and you don't want to break a nail using a nasty manual hand brake. Who needs reliability? Did he say the Ranger is 150 kgs heavier than the Hilux? Ranger must be getting fat like an obese Yank to go with those Yank looks. Last model looked good, this one is a fat toss fest but it will appeal to some. You want a ute to do the hard work, get a Hilux. With a Ford Ranger, the tools are all in the cab.😆
@@Kdjoao Oh good on you mate. I just turned sixty and I'm semi retired, so are you telling me I have to get rid of my 09 Hilux? Should I have ordered a beige Toyota Avalon instead of a new Subaru BRZ?😉
What happens when your dog treads on the handbrake button when you leave the engine running to open a gate? After having two vehicles with electric handbrakes that were very unpredictable, I just wish manufacturers would give us the option of a manual one.
Ford is the world leader in pickups, and it shows. Reliability and dependability is word-of-mouth opinion of Toyota owners, but real quality and TGW data proves Ford better at those attributes than Toyota. That's why Ford remains in the leadership seat. Braking durability is my only complaint with Ford. Drum brakes are better in service long-term, but Ford has been reducing their use in each new redesign. Rotors are too thin, warp easily, and cannot usually be turned to increase useful life and eliminate warping. You have to buy expensive new discs on every brake job. Ford needs to stop prioritizing weight savings over durability in brake systems. Maybe you test guys on your measured tests think eliminating drums are improvement, but I don't find disc brakes any better in stopping power and far worse in brake feel in real world driving, factoring in the vibration caused by warping. Could use a bit more chrome highlights on the Ford. All that blackout and dull plastic everywhere is lackluster. Otherwise, I'm very much more impressed by the new Ford than I am the Toyota. Thanks for the review.
Ford vs Ferarri now Ranger vs Hilux. The age old rivalry in South Africa since the beginning of time. Hope all you passionate believers are actually owners or at least potential purchasers of the product you are so passionately defending. Not like us here in sunny South Africa that gives support to Hilux because our oupa's used to ride on the back of the farmer's old bakkie and as a child was told that you cannot go wrong with a Hilux. Put your money where your mouth is and at least first buy or rent the product you support or critique before giving your 2cents worth. It will add more value to this platform.

Is it true with prolonged exposure to water crossings and corrugations the electric steering rack fails and a new genuine ford ranger electronic steering rack costs 8 to 10 grand if you can find one ?
It's a very nice comparison 👍
even though im from America, I would go Hilux over Ranger. No question at all!!
why ?
@@19910602011 quality and reliability is the reason dude, and I'm a fan of Toyota Trucks
I'm from America, however I'd get a Ranger Raptor anyday over hilux. Power, Performance & Comfort with pretty good reliability. You live only once, might as well drive something that's fun and comfy.
Big fan of Ford Trucks.
200k kms later the HILUX is still working the ranger can now be Found On Rubbish Dump.....
and the toyota will need a new dpf.
both are junk
The hilux would be lying in garbage 🚮 the best place for a pos Toyota and comparing with ranger which is still the same from last 10 years lol

I broke a transfer case on my company fleet mazda bt50/ford ranger on slightly slope angle. I just laugh when peope trust ford for offroading. Meanwhile my 1987 still never opened transfer case, never change bearing diff, axle etc. Only change u joints and tie rods
I waiting on the ford Everest range review when you get them
Both are good cars
1:33 North of 60K? 😮 I paid 41,200 for my 2023 Colorado Trail Boss and I have 310hp 430 torque upgrade! You can get a new ZR2 Colorado in mid 50s
AND I DONT CARE ABOUT THE PLASTIC EITHER,,,,,I LOVE IT,,,AND IF I DID HAVE LEATHER SEATS I WOULD STILL PUT SEAT COVERS OVER THE SEATS!
Now let’s be honest and tell ford this… the instrument cluster, in as much as we are trying to be modern, it’s bloody Hideous! You should do better!
Where can you get an sr5 for 60k? 70k min now...
Nice ford ranger 2023 👌🏻
The Toyota Hilux bestsellers in Malaysia. Even the ancient chassis and engine+transmission. why? Reliable
I tell the difference, HILUX last longer.
You know your cars👍
I really don't know why Ford bothered to continue with the 2.0L in the XLT and above variants.
Must’ve had some donks left lying around 🤷♂️
Supply of the V6 is limited as USA is getting the lions share of allocation
@@jamiehiggs5389 That seems odd, I thought they didn't sell the Diesel engine is in the US. I thought they only sold the 2.3L Ecoboost in the Ranger XLT range.
There's no Comparison. Toyouta HiLux WINS!!! Ford Rander can not beat Toyota's quality and reliability. I would not buy Ford.
Defensive comment right there 😅
TRUCK " its a ute ,a kenworth t 909 is a truck stop Americanising this country ffs
A kenworth is a lorry,and a ute is a light truck,stop americanising ffs
We call it a truck in Europe too
It's being Chinized faster. So Americanized is nothing.
Ute shouldn't have an air gap between the passenger cabin and cargo area. If it does it's at best a pickup pretending to be a ute
Ranger looks good in the blue colour
Could just be me but I love everything about the car except for that
Ranger💪
Great review.
*Make Australia Great Again*
Ask any mechanic they say buy a Hilux.
Ask any 4WD enthusiast they say buy a Hilux.
Ask any builder they say buy a Hilux
Ask any Aussie journalist they say buy a Ranger😮
this Toyota is not much changed since 10 years ago, so wait till the new model Hilux arrives next year then do a comparison
There wont be a ford then they will all be in the scrapyard
I'd like to know about night driving and the spread of the lights, Also how they preform on cruise down hill do they run away or hold the speed
Still cant get over howe you pronounce BI-Turbo as one word
Always been a hilux man, no matter what they bring out, will never go for anything else.......
I don't understand you have a Toyota Hilux that you are reviewing that is a higher class then the Ford Ranger XLT which is bottom of the range. A true comparison would be a SR5 VS Ford Ranger Sport.
I’d have wagered a gazillion dollars on that being the result, it was such a safe bet.
We love ford , salam dari Indonesia🇮🇩
The hilux in rogue trim is much smoother and refined
This is a test of ' family ' vehicles, who would have thought just a few years ago. The punters decide what they want to drive combined with clever marketing.
Why is it in comparisons, the hilux lags behind but it still out sells competition?
My choice is ranger
B-Turbo 😂
I haven't heard anyone try to pronounce Bi-Turbo like that... Perhaps the ute is good for carrying B-Cycles too?
Toyota over Ford every day of the year, simple choice really!
Won't blame Toyota fangirls coz they are so brainless that they will buy garbage like Toyota only .
Even with the fluctuation in the economy, I’m so excited I’ve already making over 85% profit from my current investment. Mrs Angela Cole Carr you are so amazing.
Oh I thought people don’t know her. She's really amazing i still cannot believe someone can be this exceptional when it comes to trade activities.
Same here, I hold Mrs Angela Cole Carr in high esteem because of the weekly profit am receiving trading with her strategies.
Actually, you can make a lot of profits in crypto investments even with the current dip... I've earned a lot from it as well.
Why the premium models . There actually are mid level models at least 10,000$ cheaper
TOP GEAR Toyota HiLux check it out say it all
This is not fair comparison. Ranger XLT has lower engine HP and Torque. While Hilux has 2.8 Liter G1 Engine and has 200Hp... duh!
Yes, in a working ute, the more gadgets and doodads
are important and you don't want to break a nail using
a nasty manual hand brake.
Who needs reliability?
Did he say the Ranger is 150 kgs heavier than the Hilux?
Ranger must be getting fat like an obese Yank to go
with those Yank looks.
Last model looked good, this one is a fat toss fest but
it will appeal to some.
You want a ute to do the hard work, get a Hilux.
With a Ford Ranger, the tools are all in the cab.😆
Yeah i like the rough and tough of the hilux. Ranger is for old retired people
@@Kdjoao Oh good on you mate.
I just turned sixty and I'm semi retired,
so are you telling me I have to get rid of my 09 Hilux?
Should I have ordered a beige Toyota Avalon instead
of a new Subaru BRZ?😉
What happens when your dog treads on the handbrake button when you leave the engine running to open a gate? After having two vehicles with electric handbrakes that were very unpredictable, I just wish manufacturers would give us the option of a manual one.
@@Pesmog nothing because the transmission will still be in park
Thanks for the review.
if this is a month old , why are they comparing 2022 instead of 2023.
We can see 20-30yr-old hilux on the road, But definitely not Ford .
Listen up.. you wanna drive around Australia’s vast continent.. get a ranger… you wanna return home get a hilux.. no compassion
Yeah just buy another ranger or a tow truck to tow the garbage Toyota through which hilux can get to the home .
Did someone say Offroad mega test can't wait for that. Hopefully they can get the Wildtrack Bi-Turbo.
Just because your father, friend or colleague had a certain brand, does not make you an expert on the subject. I say this because I get the impression that many of the critics never owned the vehicle he/she so pationately support and/or criticize.
80% of the people on here bashing the Hilux have never owned one. Who cares, pick what you like and drive it. 2022 Hilux SR5 + is great, that's my opinion as an owner. If you are considering a Ranger though there have been tailshaft issues direct from factory which is concerning. Massive wait times on both vehicles so whichever you pick maybe in 2024 you will get a 2022 model 😉
So… next gen ford ranger win this match?
The Ranger is twice the car than what the hilux is in everyway
The new Rangers Frame is much weaker than the frame of the old one, we will see in about 5 years how weak. And it have a rust problem..
