      I think a deeper issue is that everybody should already know half the things he states, or have some idea about it, at any rate, which is part of his overall point. However, it's clear he has noted that large groups of people and systems, too, either have no idea or are simply ignoring them, such as free speech. Speaking of which, we know that most people under the age of 35 as of 2019 don't really believe in freedom of speech now, which is insane and completely unstoppable for anybody aged 20 or under in said systems, states, and sometimes, entire countries (mostly because it is being backed by law, which tends to mean force or at least legal action).

      Aw man, Simo, you are awesome for saying that. I'm a 62 year old female and I love JPs intelligence and bravery. He puts our thoughts into words. I believe that when people of my age agree with him, it's because we've been through a lot of years watching and experiencing so many changes in our own societies and those of the world. He is talking honestly and rationally. I've watched hundreds of hours of his talks. Good luck to you from Bonnie Scotland!

    I'm attending a hyper-liberal college down here in the States and hearing the things that people parrot to each other here sometimes drives me up a wall. Your videos keep me sane and keep me asking questions. Apart from helping me recognize and articulate exactly why I have always instinctively been suspicious of identifying with sub-groups of humanity, I was raised atheist and you are the first person to ever make me look at religion with anything less than a dismissive stance. Thank you so much for uploading your curriculum, you have spent a long long time to develop the kind of articulation of being that you possess and it is so very appreciated. Much love.

    • @sircastic959
      @sircastic959 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      About Religion, it´s basically the same for me, only I was raised secular technically protestant christian and just left later.
      There are many holes Religion fills and many ways it (negatively or positively) impacts a persons and society, but I have realised there is net to nothing religion can do that something else can´t do and there is nothing that can do as much as religion does.
      Especially when you look at communism you see how dogma is possible without religion and dogma is usually the go to answer to "why religion is bad" and what it is subsequentially reduced to.
      But it fulfills many other things in society that have to or can be taken over by something else. The question is what will take what place.
      Yeah, little ramble...

      Ian, I have almost the exact same reaction to Peterson as you. I was also raised atheist and I also had always been more dismissive of religion. Now I feel as if I can see the 'religion' in socialism thanks to Peterson.

    • @steeltrap3800
      @steeltrap3800 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I rather suspect Dr P might suggest you reconsider your categorisation of your college as 'liberal'. He's rightly concerned with language, and the sort of crap going on is about as illiberal as one can get. That's one of the central points he makes. They're totalitarian, and the crazier ones are possibly more adequately described as nihilist.
      I find it sad the word 'liberal' is another that clearly described an approach that has a demonstrably proud history yet people today take it to mean something entirely different.
      Not having a go at you, to be clear, just lamenting another casualty of all this nonsense labelling that seems to be so many colleges' fetish.
      Cheers

      +Steeltrap
      "He's rightly concerned with language"
      That's what's so strange about his insistence on redefining "truth" to "evolutionarily useful" or something like that. He is bang on on free speech, liberal values, and his metaphorical reading of ancient myths is insightful; his insistence on equivocating on the word "religion" and redefining "truth" are worrisome for similar reasons for which he objects to C16 and stuff like that.

I am behind you Peterson. ALL the way. You are the voice that has lived in my head, watching insane behaviour and feeling that I must suffer in silence. Your courage is an adherence to common sense, the truth and the ability to see how this philosophical pollution has come about. Yet courage is also demonstrated in your fearlessness in standing up to threats to silence you. You are opening the vault to allow freedom to return to education, politics and society in general. The man is a monster. He speaks all these long sentences without stuttering, as if he had rehearsed the speech for hours. And he does that even when answering questions from the audience. His brain is running a 1000mph...
      Even Ben Shapiro, who is also a great speaker, fast thinker and probably as intelligent as Prof. Peterson is not so linear and smooth as him.
      The depth of Prof. Peterson's analyses is breathtaking.

      @gia257 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      if you watch more videos youll see he recycles thoughts. When you include the idea that you can derive some axioms and stick to them and build your understanding of the world around them then you can answer a wider array of questions than each individual idea originally could as you have a solid base to project from. So he's accurate when he says he cant answer because he hasnt thought about it properly yet, that means the question is too off his established base he would be guessing too much and would be likely to say something inaccurate or contradictory.

There was only one candidate off of the top of my head that actually deserved to win and would have bettered America - Rand Paul. Sanders would've bankrupted you, Clinton would've sold you out, Rubio would've been manhandled by the dominant voices wherever, Cruz would piss of most foreign leaders, and Trump is a walking disaster. I'll give him credit in one area - he has the right idea about taxation. Aside from that, he's a bloody farce. His constant tweeting, arguing, lying, and retconning his own statements are a sad sight to see

      Well, even as a Christian, Peterson often looks at religious works with the psychological lens which is how his biblical series actually got popular after his initial fame. He talks about how students really appreciate an secular look into theology that doesn’t really happen in churches or ever explained b preachers: The view of the Bible being a meta narrative and taking it on from there in a psychological context spreads those ideas in the manner that it should be taken in instead of too many literalists and emphatics who thump about this or that interpretation being the one true way. Peterson takes the words and instead of putting on another overarching narrative himself to drive a point like a pastor, reverend or preacher, he simply analyzes what’s there based on empiric theory.
      That’s the Peterson difference.
      It’s what helped me appreciate Christianity as a culture as opposed to hating it as an ideology. I still think the work is fiction, but I don’t think less of it for being fiction. It’s a wonderful metaphorical piece of work that combines myths from many societies to create meta figures that give people a broader understanding of culture, literature, and archetypes.

      Your summation of the series objective is great. I can't help, having read the bible, notice Jordan time and time again displaying to be someone of knowledge. You have to have read it to know what I am talking about.
      I do agree emphatically that churches are a seeming poor representation. *edit* I mean they have gotten so far away from what the text says through the dogmentation (is that a word?) of their ideology that they believe in a trinty. *end edit* They seem to mean well but fall into creating their own ideologies. I recommend that you read the whole darn thing cover to cover at least once and then judge for yourself. I assure you if you approach it openly; the depth of the text is quite unsearchable. Might I suggest you go with the hotel version a.k.a. the Gideon's Bible. In Jordan's spirit, if you haven't read it; you are the one criticizing the one who cleaned their room. Cheers!

      Maybe if he could condense it to one sentence but to me he excels at saying simple things in complicated ways. A sentence becomes an epic and I don't end up disagreeing but rather losing interest in him. He's also a bit retro - psychology tends to end at Jung for him.

    • @imglidinhere
      @imglidinhere 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd rather not make a role model out of a being that sent one of his angels down to impregnate a woman against her will, stand by and watch his son be murdered by his own creations, turn his back to, effectively, his right-hand man and cast him down from heaven, then stand idly by while the world burned at his feet. Sorry but, there's a lot more wrong with an omnipotent being than there is with the common man. For one, we're not all corrupted with the power of being the almighty creator of everything-that-has-existed-ever with the power to do anything.
      Not to quote a song, but I feel this fits pretty well to my views about God in general:
      "I don't want to start any blasphemous rumors, but I think God has a sick sense of humor and when I die I expect to find him laughing." - Depeche Mode

    Dr. Amitay is quite brave to let you have a audience with his students and others to spread your message. What if any backlash has the professor encountered by this action?

      No backlash (yet). I asked Dr. Peterson to present a guest lecture in my class, which is within my purview as an instructor; I wish I could have invited far more people but then there could have been resistance. We'll see if things change, now that more people are watching the video via Dr. Peterson's youtube channel.

WE ALL need to be more courageous like them so that everybody can stop the atrocities (that are on the way) from occurring. Either from the current out cry of the evil that is the communist scum pretending to be otherwise. Or, another thing we should be cautious of is our very common reactionary response in America to SEE an evil and become just the opposite. And the opposite to those people can be just as bad. We simply have to be more aware of ourselves. And we MUST learn to listen.

    I'm a young man, and thinking back on all the radical ideas I had in adolescence, its unimaginable to me that children as young as 13 are being told they can choose their gender and act on that choice. Especially with all the propaganda saying its normal to be trans, and with how impressionable kids are, and how kids seek attention and seek to differentiate themselves in radical ways. It seems like a path to many potential suicides.

    I'm so glad that great stuff can be uploaded onto TH-cam like this, so I can 'attend' from halfway around the world at any time. Learning lots here. I hope you keep it up for time and time to come.

    Thank you Dr Peterson for being a voice of well thought out sanity in an ideological malaise. We need to think our world through, in every aspect, to find sense in our traditions whilst establishing facts. Thanks again.

    Read the book "The Law" by Frederic Bastiat, or if you can get it, it is sometimes was sold as "The Law and Cliches of Socialism" and that one is better. I started learning about Government politics when I was about 16 when I was mesmerized with a weekly tv show show by Dan Smoot, on a somewhat snowy TV. I am an old lady of 78 and a huge fan of Jordan Person. keep it up!

    Jordan Peterson is the only person I've ever seen that understands a rectal orgasm. Gleaning tips from great minds like Solzhenitsyn and Howell, I'm truly astounded by his knowledge. Comment if you agree!

      Sounds more like he's just really upset about the current state of the world and feels the need to whine about it but not do anything about it. Also he seems to be suffering from some of the same ideologies and techniques he's putting down.

      @@theoneilovemost I am sure that he is upset about the current state of the world, which is precisely why he is "whining" as you put it, or thoroughly discussing the problems, explaining them and drawing attention to them, which is how I would describe it. Which is, in my opinion, the best way to act. The man has the courage to speak up for what he believes is right. I'm not sure how that is not doing anything about the problems. Do you expect more radical action? And of which kind?
      Precisely which ideologies and techniques do you mean, and when does he use- and abuse them? I am genuently curious, perhaps I have misjudged him, or failed to recognize such behaviour...

He is doing that so that other Canadians can be informed of what they did and remove those people from power. That is doing something about it.

      @@theoneilovemost sorry for the necro but i would love to know what more he could do other than gaining a following of millions on youtube and appearing on multiple television shows in multiple countries espousing the very opinions in this video. What more can be done to change your opinion of whining and do nothing about it, to paraphrase you

    I have literally never heard arguments so complete, and so widespread in length and breadth of topic. This man has literally said in the most perfect words many things many people around the world already believe and want to express. Thank you Jordan. You are a fucking genius. The things that makes this so brilliant are numerous, however, what makes it truly impressive and tractional is how you can clearly see him fighting with himself to support both sides, yielding conclusions he has evidently spent a long time arguing with his own findings and experiences to reach. He is a social philosopher of modern times comparable with the ancient greats. And the science behind it makes it even stronger, even as he discusses the science itself being flawed to actually support conclusions. Absolutely love that aspect of it.
    His entire lecture is basically "Your arguments with each other should be taken with a pinch of salt. Here's a whole fucking bags worth. Good luck keeping your opinion now!"

    Dr. Peterson, may you and your family feel a strong blessing of freedom from suffering. A reprieve from the ascending pain you have had to deal with for too long. I'm older than you. Widowed. Freedom from harm has been a beautiful reprieve from fear of harm. Exchanged for a lower level of cash has been the result. THAT is just fine bc I am resilient. MD and ND. TYVM!! The main lack in my life has been intelligence and common sense from another human. It is refreshing to actively listen to you. G-D's speed.
